I recently talked with Fieldy about his rock and roll lifestyle and some of the more difficult choices he's made in life,

including his decision to follow Christ and stay with the band Korn.

You started drinking at a very early age.

How did that happen?

Like, I don't know, man.

I was probably five or six.

My parents would tuck me into bed, and my mom would be like, yeah, I love you.

And my dad would be like, dream about Budweiser's.

That's what he knew.

That kind of set you up, didn't it?

I had my big Budweiser pillows in my room.

I mean, I was destined to be a partier, I guess.

So your parents both were partying all the time.

How did that affect your family?

It starts out, everybody's, you know, they start drinking and partying and the music.

And towards the end of the night, it was the same thing.

There would be dishes flying, screaming, yelling, to, you know, violence, to, you know, abuse.

Like they loved each other, they just, that's what happened, you know?

Yeah, alcohol and drugs has a way of doing that.

Yeah, brings out the, that other side.

That other side blew up when his parents divorced.

Fieldy was heartbroken, so he did what any teenager might do to block the pain.

He shut down.

I was like, this is not going to hurt me.

That's why I told my dad, I was like, I'm moving with you.

You know, let's get a keg and let's throw a party and make me know that you can play, you know?

And just kind of put a wall up to not feel the emotions.

And that's when it just came full on, like drinking and like a way that nobody's going to hurt me.

But from that moment on, I never had a sober day.

Fieldy formed the band Pierced with some high school friends.

He also started using speed.

When we were in these younger bands, they were like, they were kind of like hair metal bands, you know?

And the whole image was to be really skinny, with this, like, look like a Q-tip, kind of, you know?

Big hair, little stick body, you know?

Yeah, so it's like, you know, hey, if you take these, you know, you know, speed pills right here, you won't be hungry.

And so I started, you know, getting into that.

I mean, I went to jail a few times, but looking back, I should have been in jail like every day.

I just didn't get caught.

Pierced fell apart, as did other bands that followed.

Then in 1993, Fieldy and Friends came up with a new name and called themselves Korn.

With a new sound and a new lead singer, the band took off.

And so did Fieldy's party life.

I had my nights of being in hotel rooms and destroying them by myself, to crying, to going through that.

Because I'd wake up in the morning feeling so bad from partying, that I'd be shaking and I'd wake up and throw up in the morning.

And I'm like, man, I can't handle this.

So I would just take some Xanax or Ativan and let that,

that would kick in and I'd just be wasted again and you bring yourself down and then smoke some weed after that.

And then night would come and I could start drinking some.

The goal was basically to stay buzzed 24-7.

Yeah, 24-7.

Corn was huge, playing in sold-out arenas around the world.

In the midst of it all, Fielding married and divorced twice.

You had a very specific view about women.

What was that?

I mean, how did you see women in your life?

I would bash on them, you know.

Bash on them and saying, you know, women are just sluts or...

I mean, verbally.

No, yeah, no good.

I was really, really mean to women, like extra mean to where I could make almost any woman cry anytime.

I guess that's what I did to keep from getting hurt.

Fieldy was still dealing with the pain of his parents' divorce.

Looking back on it, you spent a lot of time and effort building the walls up around your heart.

That was a full-time job for like 20 years.

One heartbreak, 20 years.

I mean, most people, I think, get over a heartbreak in like a year or something.

20 years of destroying myself?

It's a vicious cycle.

It's, you're living inside a tornado spinning.

Like, it's fast, you know, and it ends up killing you.

Did you ever come to a point and say, this has got to stop?

I don't think I did.

I always made a joke out of everything.

You know, like, if I was like, my hands are shaking, and I'm like throwing up, I'd make a joke.

It was no joke when Fieldy's father was diagnosed with cancer.

To me, like, my dad was like, kind of like a superhero, you know, like, there's no way this can happen.

Even to the point where he got really sick and had to move him over to top doctors in the world.

I'm like, they're going to fix it.

I got money.

They're going to fix it.

I got the best insurance in the world.

He'll be fine.

But he wasn't.

His father died with one last wish.

He wished that I'd be saved.

That's because years earlier, his father had become a Christian, and so had his wife.

So when she asked Fieldy to pray the prayer of salvation at the hospital, he did.

I just did it because everybody was freaking out.

It didn't mean much, you know, because I was so out of my mind at that moment.

So that just all passed, and that's when everything came,

you know, came back to the house and went through a deep, like, dark moment.

I just really started thinking about everything, from what I'm doing to myself to his death to how I'm,

you know, what I'm leaving behind.

I don't know, I couldn't take it anymore.

That led Fieldy to a sincere prayer of commitment that changed his life.

I had chills throughout my whole body, almost like a coldness, and I was crying.

Where are these tears coming from?

I'm just reading some words, you know?

Like, I guess I just reassured, because I tell a lot of people, you can do the Savior prayer with your brain.

It's not going to do anything.

You have to do it with your heart.

When I accepted Christ, now I'm like, OK, I'm going to pray for some of these things that I'm a slave to.

It went in steps so that I was set free with no withdrawals,

from the weed to the pills, everything.

I stopped.

Over time, he became more aware of his need for God's forgiveness.

I walk into the bathroom and put my face on the floor and just say, forgive me, man, because some of the things I did were so bad.

I just knew he said, I forgive you, son.

Beaudy spent a year apologizing to everyone he could think of that he had hurt.

The hardest person to apologize to was his girlfriend at the time, Dina.

I was gonna be heartbroken if she left me, you know?

So I was like, man, I really gotta take a chance here of her leaving me after I tell her I've been cheating on her.

And I took the chance.

Dina was furious, but she forgave Fieldy.

The two married and started a family.

As far as his career, he's still with Korn.

I asked him about his decision to stay with the band.

He believes it's for a good reason.

There's so much power of being used in corn, you know, that I can reach so many people and know what I'm about,

because I know it's going to give me the best life.

Now that he's got the life and has written a book about it, he says his message is really pretty simple.

People think, oh, I'm not good enough to have the Lord come into my life.

And it's like, I mean, people got to know.

All you got to do is know what Jesus did for you.

He died for your sins, you know, and died on the cross and came back three days later.

And if you ask him into your heart, it's for life, you know.
