Today, I'm going to help you with the sentence rhythm of a recent lian du video

that I did about a public place that needs improvement.

Let's take a look at that same text.

I've marked the sentence rhythm in red, and hopefully you can follow along and see what parts need to be spoken high

and what parts need to be spoken low.

Let's take a look.

A public place that needs improvement.

So you can see we start out a very low a public place.

The stress is on place.

Before place we say public place as high than low.

That again not stressed needs improvement.

The stress is on improvement.

I've always thought that the public library in my hometown could be improved a little.

So here, always thought.

That's the stressed part.

I've always thought, and then unstressed,

that the public library, public library in my hometown could be improved a little.

So you see we have this rising and falling, rising and falling.

Be improved a little.

We end with a low tone.

Be improved a little.

It's a nice space with a good selection of books, but for instance, there's only a few public computers.

It's a nice space.

Again, that rising and falling.

It's a nice space with a good selection of books.

And that's the end of the first part of that sentence.

So we don't go all the way down.

Good selection of books.

We don't say that.

We say good selection of books.

It's still high, and that shows we're going to continue the sentence.

But for instance, for instance, when we say for instance, we always kind of do for instance,

it's kind of a rising falling.

But for instance, there's only a few public computers.

Only a few.

We stress on few.

And then we stress on computers.

Computers.

There's only a few public computers.

And they're pretty old.

Again we have, and they're pretty old.

We rise and fall to the end of that sentence.

Some newer libraries have 3D printers, cameras, or musical instruments.

Now we have a list, right?

We say it's a newer library, right?

We emphasize newer.

Have 3D printers, cameras, or musical instruments.

For cameras, we say that with a rising intonation is so that we know it's a list.

3D printers, cameras, or musical instruments for people to rent.

But our library doesn't have anything like that.

Again, rising and falling.

Our library, stress on our library, doesn't have anything, doesn't have anything like that.

If our library had more public funding, maybe they could make more improvements.

If our library had more public funding, now that's the first half of the sentence.

Again, we keep the tone kind of high to know that we're going to continue the sentence.

If our library had more public funding, maybe they could make more improvements.

They could make more improvements.

And we stress on improvements.

We'll have a low tone to show that the sentence is over.

Let's read the whole thing again.
