1
Hi everyone!
2
Welcome back to the 5-Minute English Podcast.
3
I'm Jessica.
4
And I'm Tom.
5
Today we're diving into one of our favorite topics, food!
6
Let's talk about food.
7
What we eat, what we love, and even what we can't stand.
8
So Tom, what do you usually eat in a day?
9
Alright, my typical day starts with toast and coffee.
10
Nothing fancy, just something quick.
11
Lunch is usually a sandwich or salad and for dinner.
12
I love pasta, spaghetti, lasagna, anything warm and filling.
13
Sounds good.
14
For me, breakfast is all about smoothies.
15
I usually toss in some berries, banana, and yogurt.
16
Lunch is a light soup or rice bowl.
17
And dinner's when I go all out.
18
Like grilled salmon with veggies or maybe a stir fry.
19
Let's talk favorites.
20
If you could eat one thing every day, what would it be?
21
Oh, that's tough.
22
But I'd probably say chocolate cake or mango sorbet.
23
I have a major sweet tooth.
24
Ooh, I'm the opposite.
25
I love savory food.
26
Cheesy pizza, garlic bread, spicy noodles, and I'm a big fan of Mexican food.
27
Tacos, burrito, bring it on.
28
Yum.
29
I also love fresh, tangy flavors.
30
Like a good lemon vinaigrette on a salad or a citrusy dish.
31
It just wakes up your taste buds, you know?
32
Okay, time to spill the tea.
33
What foods do you not like?
34
Brussels sprouts.
35
I've tried, but I just can't get into them.
36
They taste too earthy for me.
37
Oh, and anything too spicy.
38
I'm a wimp with heat.
39
Ha ha, fair.
40
For me, it's olives.
41
They're way too bitter. And anchovies?
42
Nope.
43
Too salty and fishy.
44
Totally get that.
45
Everyone has their food no-goes.
46
It's also cool how eating habits vary around the world.
47
Like in Japan, people might eat rice and miso soup for breakfast.
48
Or in India, meals are packed with spices and often vegetarian.
49
And in Italy, pasta's basically a way of life.
50
Exactly.
51
And some cultures eat lots of small meals while others have one big main dish.
52
It's fun to learn from each other.
53
And if you're learning English, food is a great topic to practice with.
54
Use phrases like, I'm a vegetarian, or I love sweet food, or I usually eat out.
55
You can also ask your friends things like, what's your favorite comfort food?
56
Or, do you cook at home or eat out more?
57
All right, that's it for today's 5-Minute English podcast.
58
Thanks for chatting with us about food.
59
Now we're both hungry.
60
Same here.
61
Go grab a snack and don't forget to practice your food phrases in English.
62
Catch you next time.
63
Bye everyone.
