1
Hey there!
2
I'm Emma from mmmEnglish.
3
Today's speaking practice is about taking a position or choosing a clear side about a topic or a problem.
4
It is a really useful skill to develop
5
because it will help you to introduce your opinion
6
or your attitude about something and then share reasons why it's important to you.
7
You'll notice that in this practice, some of my language will be a bit stronger than you're used to.
8
There is lots of emotion behind my words.
9
This is something that I care about passionately and I want to make sure the person I'm talking to knows it.
10

that you turn on notifications so that you never miss a speaking practice with me.
12
In this practice today, I want you to pay attention to the phrases that I use to introduce new ideas.
13
They're highlighted in the script on screen and I've also made a worksheet to explain those phrases for you.
14
How to use them with some other examples so that you can use them to practice formulating your own ideas.
15
The link to download it is right below.
16
This speaking practice will follow the mmm English imitation technique.
17
Three steps.
18
First you'll listen, then repeat after me and then finally you'll shadow me.
19
Ready to dive in?
20
Let's do it!
21
In step one, just listen.
22
Listen for new words.
23
Listen to the tone of my voice.
24
Have you ever noticed how our feeds are full of these clothing haul videos lately?
25
People ripping open parcel after parcel, trying everything on and deciding whether or not to keep it?
26
I mean, it's fun to watch, I get it.
27
But have you ever stopped and thought about where it all ends up?
28
I don't know about you but my wardrobe is pretty small.
29
I'd rather buy one good piece than five cheap ones because I want things that last,
30
not stuff that I'm tossing out in a month.
31
That's what gets me about these holes.
32
People clearing out their wardrobes every season to make room for the next drop.
33
And I keep thinking, where does all this stuff go?
34
The old stuff.
35
Landfill, that's where it goes.
36
And it's not just the sheer amount of clothing that's the problem, it's what it's made of.
37
So much of it is cheap synthetic fabric, basically plastic.
38
And that stuff doesn't break down for hundreds of years.
39
And it's not just clothes either.
40
I cannot look at acrylic nails without thinking the same thing.
41
They get filed down and snapped off and thrown out every few weeks.
42
Look, having a cute wardrobe is great.
43
but quietly wrecking the planet to keep up with the trend?
44
I'm not okay with that.
45
Hey, guess what?
46
This month inside the Hey Lady English speaking community,
47
we're learning about and building fluency around this topic, around fast fashion.
48

51
You can start your seven -day free trial using the link down in the description below.
52
Now in step two, repeat after me.
53
You'll hear me say the line and then there'll be a pause after so you can copy me exactly as you hear.
54
Have you ever noticed how our feeds are full of these clothing haul videos lately?
55
People ripping open parcel after parcel.
56
trying everything on and deciding whether or not to keep it?
57
I mean it's fun to watch, I get it.
58
But have you ever stopped and thought about where it all ends up?
59
I don't know about you but my wardrobe is pretty small.
60

61
Because I want things that last.
62
Not stuff that I'm tossing out in a month.
63
That's what gets me about these holes.
64
People clearing out their wardrobes every season.
65
To make room for the next drop.
66
And I keep thinking, where does all this stuff go?
67
The old stuff.
68
Landfill, that's where it goes.
69
And it's not just the sheer amount of clothing that's the problem.
70
It's what it's made of.
71

73

74
I cannot look at acrylic nails without thinking the same thing.
75
They get filed down and snapped off.
76
And thrown out every few weeks.
77
Look, having a cute wardrobe is great.
78
but quietly wrecking the planet to keep up with the trend?
79
I'm not okay with that.
80
Now try to shadow me, speak along with me following the rhythm and the intonation of my voice.
81
Have you ever noticed how our feeds are full of these clothing haul videos lately?
82
People ripping open parcel after parcel, trying everything on and deciding whether or not to keep it?

86
I'd rather buy one good piece than five cheap ones because I want things that last,

88
That's what gets me about these hauls.
89
People clearing out their wardrobes every season to make room for the next drop.
90
And I keep thinking, where does all this stuff go?
91
The old stuff?
92
Landfill, that's where it goes.

97
They get filed down and snapped off and thrown out every few weeks.
98
Look, having a cute wardrobe is great but quietly wrecking the planet to keep up with the trend?
99
I'm not okay with that. So how was that?
100
I would love to hear your thoughts.
101
Do you agree or do you disagree with my opinion about this topic?
102
I also want to know what is something that you feel passionate about?
103
Something that you would talk about with passion and vigour because it's something that you really believe in.
104
Tell me about that down in the comments.
105
What would you stand on a street corner and tell people if you had the opportunity.

Was du lernst

Zweitens, neue Ideen mithilfe strukturierter Phrasen einzuführen – wie in der Konversation über Fast Fashion gezeigt, wo Übergänge wie "That's what gets me about..." oder "And it's not just..." verwendet werden, um Argumente zu verknüpfen.

B. "I don't know about you" → "I don't know 'bout you", oder "it's made of" → "it's made uhv". Auch Reduktionen treten auf, wie "I'm not okay with that" → "I'm not okay wit' that".
