1
Hello everyone!
2
Welcome to Slow English.
3
The podcast is for English learners who want to speak English more naturally and confidently.
4
My name is Tom.
5
I'll be the host of the podcast today and hopefully many other podcasts in the future.
6
In today's episode, we're going to talk about something very simple but very powerful.
7
I will be speaking slowly and clearly,
8
so you can follow me and repeat after me.
9
Through this video, you can practice your listening skills and also your pronunciation skills by copying me.
10
So if you shadow me,
11
for example, shadowing means to copy something.
12
In English, this means to listen to someone speaking and then try to copy the sounds they make.
13
Some people will call it the listen and repeat method,
14
but it is basically the same thing.
15
You listen to the audio,
16
and then you repeat what you heard.
17
So if you do that,
18
then you can practice your pronunciation.
19
Before we start, if there are any words that you don't understand or that you couldn't really hear clearly,
20
just check the subtitles.
21
If you're just listening on headphones on another platform,
22
Then you can go to YouTube,
23
look in the description and download the transcript or just look at the subtitles.
24
So in today's podcast, I'm going to talk about the first time
25
when I'll introduce myself to you guys and I'll tell you about slow English.
26
Firstly, well, very nice to meet you.
27
My name is Tom.
28
Maybe you've seen me in videos on Facebook or TikTok.
29
You know, those of you who have seen me in different places,
30
I wanted to make this podcast to connect with you guys on a personal level.
31
So if there's anything by the way you have any suggestions,
32
you can just comment.
33
But anyway, I'm getting a little bit off topic now.
34
I made this podcast to help English learners,
35
specifically English learners for beginners.
36
And it's mostly for upper beginner and above learners.
37
But for higher level learners,
38
you can start listening to native content.
39
And that is why I made this podcast.
40
So I want to tell you guys about the journey from making Facebook and TikTok up until now,
41
because I could not believe how many people started following and watching my Facebook and TikTok channels.
42
I started putting out some videos on Facebook and I thought,
43
oh, you know, if I could get a few followers and a few views,
44
that would be cool.
45
I didn't expect much, to be honest,
46
but I had the goal of making more really useful videos.
47
That could help English learners learn English easily and naturally.
48
So I made the first video and didn't get too many views,
49
maybe I think 100 or something.
50
And I spent the day uploading the video on Facebook when I was at a cafe.
51
Then I started driving home.
52
I didn't think too much about it.
53
And then I opened the app on my phone and saw how many views the video has.
54
And I did that.
55
And then I saw it was like 5,000 likes or something.
56
And that was after about a few minutes.
57
And so I was thinking, something's wrong.
58
Not only that, but a lot of people were following.
59
And then every time I refreshed the page,
60
there were like thousands more views.
61
And so I was shocked, to be completely honest.
62
I did not expect that to happen.
63
So I kept refreshing.
64
And then there were more and more and more.
65
And I was like, what is going on?
66
I have like 10,000 followers and 15,000.
67
It was exploding.
68
And then so well, I kept on uploading videos.
69
Because again, I had all of these ideas in my head.
70
And I thought many English learners could really benefit from this.
71
It could be really useful for them.
72
And so apparently, you know, people liked it.
73
And I was very happy about that.
74
And so I made videos for about,
75
sorry, I'm talking a bit fast.
76
And so I made videos for about six months consistently.
77
To be honest, I can't really remember.
78
A bunch of followers and a bunch of views.
79
Some videos did much better than others.
80
But then I stopped making videos because I had made a lot of videos.
81
I had a lot of people follow me.
82
I had a decent sized Facebook group.
83
But I think the video is not helpful and interesting enough for English learners.
84
And I think TikTok and Reels,
85
those short videos, I think they're useful for learning.
86
But if you really want to learn,
87
you need to have more.
88
And to be honest, I don't even really like TikTok.
89
I don't like the whole short content thing going on.
90
How everyone is pretty much addicted to short content.
91
I see it like cake, you know.
92
It's like really sweet, it's delicious.
93
And when you eat it,
94
you want to eat more.
95
And when you eat it,
96
your brain gets that dopamine.
97
And you feel really good, right?
98
And so it makes other foods not so appealing.
99
And I see short content kind of like that.
100
It makes us really used to getting that quick hit of a good feeling and then going to the next one.
101
And many people have talked about this,
102
so I'm not going to talk about it too much.
103
But what I wanted to do was create something bigger,
104
create something more useful.
105
And so that's what I'm working on right now.
106
I'm not going to talk too much about it.
107
I will announce it in the future.
108
So I started spending my time making the videos.
109
And those videos on Facebook or TikTok,
110
they take a lot of time for me to think about what what the video will be about,
111
to film it, and to edit it,
112
because I didn't have a team.
113
I was doing everything by myself.
114
And so it took me a lot, a lot of time.
115
And I realized if I wanted to create something bigger and better,
116
then I needed to sacrifice something to have more time.
117
And so, I put short videos on pause,
118
and I'm working on something else.
119
Alright, I'm looking at my notes here because I made a bit of a plan for this podcast.
120
So, guys, what can you expect from this channel and from Slow English?
121
Well, on this channel, I plan to upload content three or four times a week for a long video.
122
I want to focus more on long videos that are really high quality and really useful.
123
So, you guys can learn, right?
124
Whenever I'm making a video,
125
I'm always thinking about you guys.
126
I'm thinking like, okay, what would be useful for them?
127
What would they watch?
128
And also be entertained by.
129
Because, you know, when you learn English,
130
you also have to have fun.
131
And if it's purely educational,
132
like someone in front of a whiteboard just writing,
133
you know, this and this, then you feel bored.
134
And while it is very educational,
135
I think entertainment is crucial.
136
Especially these days when we can easily go to something else and be entertained.
137
So yeah, that's what you can expect from this channel is videos each week.
138
And if there's anything you guys want to learn,
139
please just put a comment in the description.
140
I will read them and I will listen to your feedback for sure.
141
I don't want to ramble on and kind of bore you with talking.
142
So I don't think this podcast will be very long because it's the first one.
143
And I just want to introduce you guys to myself,
144
to Slow English, and to my new channel.
145
Let me know what you want to see.
146
And, yeah, this is my first podcast on the Slow English channel,
147
so it's not the best,
148
but it's something I want to share with you.
149
So, thank you so much for watching,
150
and I'll see you next time.
151
Goodbye for now.
