Lektion wird erstellt...
1
Hey guys, it's my dad's birthday so let's learn some English with comprehensible input.
2
Let's gooooooooooooooo!
3
Alright friends, yes it is my birthday.
4
Today I am 35 years old.
5
So, we're going to learn some real-life English as always.
6
We're gonna celebrate my birthday by cooking an incredible meal later.
7
I got a little cake.
8
We'll show you some of the things we do here in the U.S to celebrate somebody's birthday.
9
But first, before we get into all of that, I want to take a moment to reflect on this last year of my life.
10
And when we say reflecting on something, it means thinking about it.
11
Really, really thinking about a certain period of time or a certain thing.
12
So I'm going to reflect on the last year of my life.
13
Now a lot of times people like me and maybe people like you, we set big huge goals.
14
Okay?
15
We set these giant goals.
16
Oh I want to be a millionaire.
17
I want a million followers on Instagram.
18
Big things, right?
19
And then when we don't achieve those goals we feel like a failure right
20
so I'm gonna think about I'm going to reflect upon the things
21
that I wanted to do last year and the things
22
that I did the things I actually achieved
23
so for the last few years I've done a video like this on either New Year's Eve
24
or my birthday and thought about my goals for the year.
25
I don't remember if I did it this new year so I'll do it today on my birthday.
26
But my goal has always been 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.
27
And last year on my birthday, literally on my birthday weekend, we achieved that goal.
28
And this year on my birthday,
29
today, we have like, I haven't looked at the channel in like a week, guys, honestly.
30
That's why I haven't responded to any comments because I'm
31
so busy with Abby but we have at least 317,000 subscribers the last time I looked
32
so we have three times my original goal for the YouTube channel
33
so in the last year we've gained over 200,000 subscribers I'm pretty proud of
34
that pretty proud of
35
that another thing I'm very proud of is creating the native English starter kit
36
if you'd like to check it out you can in the
37
link below it's a great way to support me in the channel
38
but I'm not I'm not proud of myself for making that
39
because oh it's money no I'm proud
40
because I learned how to create a product how to make
41
a little course how to put it on a platform
42
and how to sell it that's a skill guys that's huge
43
and um just super happy about
44
that another thing i'm happy about is i've met some really
45
awesome people this year okay um i've collaborated with jay from english by jay i don't remember
46
if it was this year or the end of last i spoke with steve kaufman
47
um i collaborated with online
48
and met in person mr salas somebody i've wanted to meet
49
for a long time i met uh the founder of sprout who's the partner with jay uh
50
so shout out my man you know who you are won't say your name
51
but i know you're watching
52
and i'm just really happy to have met all these people who think like I do and are working on big things.
53
It's super cool and it lets me know I'm moving in the right direction, that I'm meeting these people who are of a similar mindset.
54
So I'm very happy about that.
55
And speaking of Sprout, if you'd like to speak with the AI version of me, you can click the link down below and try it for free for a week.
56
Tons of other cool stuff on there, content from other awesome English creators like Jay.
57
So super happy about that.
58
I've read and listened to a ton of books.
59
I've learned a ton about business.
60
And I've been a good father and a good husband.
61
So, you know, there were things I wanted in this last year that I didn't achieve, perhaps.
62
But I think I've done a lot.
63
I've grown as a man.
64
And I'm proud of where I am.
65
so that's my reflection on the year in this next year
66
of my life I have some big goals too guys you
67
know let's just say we'll shoot for a million subscribers on this YouTube channel
68
and I make my goals big guys because little goals bore me to death
69
and we say something bores you to death when it's
70
so boring and you just are not excited about it at all so I have 317,000 subscribers.
71
For me to say 400,000 subscribers, that bores me to death, guys, because I know that's coming and probably not that far away.
72
But a million subscribers is a big goal that excites me because I'll get that gold play button.
73
So that's one of my goals for this next year.
74
Another one of my goals is to keep on meeting awesome, successful people.
75
another one of my goals is to get my family to columbia
76
so that abby can meet her grandparents and the columbian side of her family
77
and to keep growing the business and keep gaining more financial security
78
and freedom for myself and my family and guys i can't tell you
79
if i'll achieve all those
80
but i can tell you without a doubt i will try
81
my very best all right i will talk to guys in a bit we'll celebrate my birthday.
82
Alright friends it is time to start cooking my birthday feast.
83
Now I'm not filming the whole meal cooking it because it's a complex dish.
84
You guys know the kind of things I like to cook.
85
This is my birthday video not a cooking video.
86
I had to try something special for my birthday.
87
This is something I had never even heard of until I searched for really awesome dishes from around the world.
88
So I'll give you guys some hints.
89
I'll give you guys some hints.
90
This is a dish from South Africa, but it has an Indian influence.
91
Okay?
92
We'll talk more about that later.
93
Here we have the aromatics, and aromatics means the things that smell good.
94
I've got some oil heating up here.
95
Got a stick of cinnamon.
96
Some cardamom pods.
97
This is a cool little spice called a star anise.
98
And then I have cumin seeds and fennel seeds.
99
So we'll put that in the oil and as
100
that starts to cook we will start to smell that and in cooking guys we call that blooming the spices.
101
So we're just going to do that for just a minute.
102
Mmm, it smells good already.
103
Those spices are blooming or opening up.
104
This is a traditionally, this is a dish traditionally made with lamb,
105
but we're going to use beef because I want Connor to try it too, and he hasn't really tried lamb before so I don't know if he'd like that.
106
So we're using beef.
107
I'm gonna add some onion.
108
Then we've got a whole lot of spices here, but those don't go in yet.
109
So like I said, I'm not going to show you guys all this.
110
Just wanted to give you a little teaser about what dish we will be having.
111
And a teaser means when you give hints about something, but you do not say what it is.
112
So tell me now guys, do you have any idea what this is?
113
One more hint.
114
This is served with bread, traditionally in South Africa.
115
Alright guys, I'll see you when we're preparing the dish.
116
All right guys, time for the birthday feast.
117
So this dish is called bunny chow, okay?
118
And what it is, it's a curry.
119
So I made this delicious beef curry over here.
120
It's a South African dish with an Indian curry.
121
Something's not adding up, right?
122
Well, apparently in the 1800s, many Indians were brought to Durban, South Africa.
123
They were brought as indentured servants,
124
which honestly, guys, it's not a slave, but, you know.
125
Basically, these people signed contracts for five to ten years saying they would work
126
and basically do whatever the person they signed these contracts to said for that amount of time,
127
and in return, they would be given food and shelter so many Indians were brought to South Africa in this time.
128
They brought with them their cuisine and bunny chow became a thing.
129
So I chose this because it looks so interesting.
130
I baked a loaf of bread and I'm going to show you guys how they serve this.
131
So first we need some bread.
132
Oh yeah, good bread. So guys, here.
133
Take a part of the loaf like that and then they cut the inside of the bread out.
134
They make the bread into like a bowl.
135
Oh, I can't wait to try this, guys.
136
As soon as I saw this online, I knew this was what I wanted for my birthday dinner.
137
So then you pull the inside of the bread out.
138
And make a bread bowl.
139
Like that.
140
Then you take your curry, put some nice chunks of beef in there.
141
Make sure you get some of the gravy on there.
142
Ah yeah, get that gravy on there.
143
Ooh, guys, I cannot wait.
144
Alright friends, that is South African bunny chow.
145
Bunny chow.
146
Oh boy.
147
And you take the part that you cut out and you use it to eat with the beef
148
Wow guys all those Indian spices I love absolutely love Indian cuisine You know,
149
the curry, the garam masala, the turmeric, the coriander, those spices come together in such a beautiful way.
150
The cinnamon and star anise.
151
And I love this twist on it where you put it in the bread.
152
And after I eat all this meat, this bread is going to be just soaked with the gravy.
153
Now that is a birthday feast.
154
Alright guys, I'm going to eat my bunny chow.
155
I'll talk to you guys in a little bit.
156
I have to help my wife with Abby.
157
I can hear Abby starting to cry a little bit.
158
And Connor wants to eat some too.
159
So I'll see you guys in a bit.
160
Okay guys, now let me show you how we celebrate birthdays here in the United States.
161
This is a little birthday cake.
162
But I didn't want a bunch of cake because then I'll be tempted to eat it.
163
So we take a lighter.
164
Bless you, Abby.
165
Light a candle on the birthday cake.
166
And then the family and friends sing.
167
Happy birthday to you.
168
Happy birthday to you.
169
Happy birthday, dear dad.
170
Happy birthday to you.
171
and then you make a wish
172
but you can't tell anybody blow out the candles all right
173
let's try this cake it looks good it does look yummy thank you guys for singing for me.
174
You're welcome.
175

176
Oh Abby wants cake guys.
177

178
Oh that looks good Baby spit Oh that looks yummy Oh wow wow
179

180
You get the big fork Oh wait, why did I grab four forks?
181
Abby came so can we get some of them?
182
Alright guys, and I get the first bite because I am the birthday dad.
183
Yep.
184
Let me see.
185
There's no need to make them.
186
Why did I grab four forks?
187
Oh.
188
That's some good cake, guys.
189
All right, my friends.
190
I don't know how long this video is going to be.
191
You know, these days it's kind of hard to film with little Abby.
192
I haven't had my beautiful wife's help recording because somebody has to take care of Abby.
193
Thanks for being with me and celebrating my birthday.
194
You're welcome.
195
Thank you guys for being with me and celebrating my birthday.
196
Hope you enjoyed sharing this special moment with me and my family.
197
So, another year on this planet.
198
I'm 35.
199
Is that old?
200
No, not yet.
201
Thank you.
202
Is it old?
203
Yeah, it's not old, guys.
204
It's not.
205
It's not.
206
It's not.

  • Achieve a goal: "Letztes Jahr habe ich mein Ziel erreicht."

Also, leg los und verbessere dein "shadowspeaks"!
