1
Last week I explored Southern California.
2
I visited Runyon Canyon Park to see the Hollywood sign,
3
walked around Santa Monica Pier,
4
hiked to a gorgeous waterfall,
5
relaxed at some beaches, and slept at some beautiful spots along the water.
6
Then I spent a long weekend hiking and camping in Death Valley.
7
Good morning everyone!
8
Five minutes down the road are some beautiful hot springs,
9
so I'm gonna get ready and then go for a morning soak.
10
Bathing suit first!
11
Down the road we go.
12
I was not expecting this many people on a weekday.
13
This is such a relaxing morning.
14
I wish I could do this every day.
15
And I have the whole thing to myself.
16
There was a whole lot of cars,
17
so I thought that it would be really busy here,
18
but I guess everyone is just still sleeping.
19
These look like little poops.
20
Shoo shoo.
21
Alright, I'm getting a little too warm,
22
so I think it's time to get out and go get some breakfast.
23
Also, if you see that my lips are like bleeding,
24
I was in the desert all weekend and they got really, really dry.
25
I made a quick stop for food before heading to my next destination.
26
We made it.
27
Well, I made it.
28
But together we made it.
29
If you guys have been watching my channel,
30
you would know that I do a ton of hiking,
31
and I just want to talk about it as I get ready because I haven't done that yet.
32
To start off, I want to say that hiking is a ton of fun,
33
but there can be some dangers to it,
34
so when I hike, I keep a lot of safety issues in mind.
35
So the first thing I do is every time I go hiking,
36
I let my family and friends know exactly where I am,
37
what time I'm going, and when I'm expected to be back.
38
A ton of my family and friends actually have my location at all times.
39
It just gives them peace of mind and that way there's always someone that knows where I am.
40
Number two, when I'm hiking I always make sure that my phone is fully charged before I start.
41
Most of the time I am recording so my battery will get lower
42
but there's always a certain point where I'll stop using my phone no matter what to make sure I have a charge.
43
Now most of the time I do have service,
44
but when I don't my SOS is on,
45
so in case of emergency I can always reach someone.
46
Number three, I always have a map on me,
47
whether that's a physical map or a map on my phone,
48
because I want to make sure that I'm always staying on trail.
49
If you've watched my video you would see
50
that sometimes I go the wrong way but it's always right away
51
when I realize that I am going off trail and I make sure to get right back on.
52
Trails are marked for a reason but sometimes trails aren't marked
53
that well so if I have a map on me I always know where I'm going.
54
Number four is there's always essential items that I have on me while I'm hiking.
55
I make sure that I'm always carrying a ton of fluids as well as snacks
56
because hiking takes a lot of energy and I want to make sure that I'm staying healthy and hydrated.
57
I also always have spray on me to protect myself from animals and honestly maybe even from people just in case.
58
I also carry a first aid kit at all times.
59
You never know something may happen and you may need a first aid kit with you.
60
A first aid kit, food,
61
water, and a protectant I think are the most essential things to have on a hike,
62
but I do also carry a few other things in my bag that are just helpful.
63
And number five, it might sound silly,
64
but I always apply sunscreen.
65
I wear a hat and sunglasses while I'm hiking.
66
Just because it doesn't look like the sun is out,
67
the UV can still be strong.
68
So you just want to make sure that you're protecting your skin,
69
your eyes, and everything about you.
70
So those are my five main tips.
71
I am no expert hiker,
72
so that's just what I do to keep safe,
73
but please let's all educate each other,
74
and if you have any other tips,
75
please leave it down in the comments.
76
All right, so you know the drill.
77
Sunscreen, put my braids in,
78
and then I'm ready to go hike.
79
I literally just got a car wash a few days ago.
80
It always just gets so dirty so quickly.
81
Also very exciting as you can probably tell already I'm pretty minimal
82
and I don't love buying things just to buy them but I will get new things because I need them.
83
So after hiking for three full years with a drawstring bag and sneakers.
84
I finally went to the store the other day.
85
I bought proper hiking shoes,
86
a backpack, and a ton of hiking socks.
87
Look, they're wolves.
88
First trail marking, we go this way.
89
I'm pretty sure most of this hike is just black sand,
90
which is kind of tough to hike but that's okay because the V's are incredible on the top.
91
All right, made it up from the lake,
92
and now we go up the rocks.
93
This is much easier to walk on.
94
It's getting pretty windy up here.
95
I feel like I'm in that SpongeBob episode where they're trying to sell a crusty crab pizza.
96
The crusty crab pizza is the pizza for you and me.
97
This is so cool.
98
I've never seen fissures before.
99
I really want to go inside and check it out.
100
All right, here I go.
101
These might be a little tough with my bag,
102
so I'm going to leave it over here here.
103
Alright, now I can fit through.
104
Maybe I should move my head, my hat around.
105
Okay, I'm gonna move my hat around so I can actually see.
106
Much better.
107
So cool!
108
So many ways to go.
109
Which way?
110
Maybe this one.
111
all right i'm gonna somehow get up here to take a picture at the top
112
that took me like five minutes to set my tripod down go to the other side take a picture
113
and come back to get it
114
because i wanted to stay on low ground just to be safe
115
but wow okay hopefully it was worth it one thing about hiking is i feel like it's
116
so therapeutic um i feel
117
that way about all physical activity honestly it just like clears your mind
118
and everything and it gives me some time to think
119
so a while back i tried wild camping for the first time
120
and i got really scared and i ended up leaving
121
and staying at a rest stop but tonight i think i'm gonna try it again
122
so attempt number two
123
when i get back to my car i'm gonna find a wild camping spot and hopefully i'm successful this time.
124
Now also I have to go find my backpack.
125
I'm not really sure where I put it down.
126
Somewhere at the front of the fissures.
127
So yeah first time seeing fissures and they were awesome.
128
So I will definitely be doing that again.
129
Yeah I've got to somehow get to low ground.
130
I'm kind of wishing I just kept the bag on me.
131
that's the most amount of parkour you're gonna get from me I would love to jump
132
but yeah not safe and also I've got a bad knee you know you hit 25
133
and it just goes downhill I feel like these birds are laughing at me I just walked in circles
134
look at this guy never seen one like
135
that before yay i got my backpack never been
136
so happy to see you that was actually hilarious i knew exactly where my backpack was
137
but i was on top and i didn't know how to get directly down here
138
so i ended up like zigzagging
139
which i think is kind of what you have to do because you're obviously not going jump right down.
140
Made it back.
141
That was a nice fun hike.
142
Now I'm just gonna have a little granola bar.
143
This is weird.
144
I have made it to my spot for the night.
145
So this is wild camping attempt number two.
146
Hopefully it goes better than the first.
147
I'm going to start putting up my window covers and getting the car all situated for nighttime.
148
Okay, it is time to take a shower.
149
Shower done, now pajamas.
150
Some of you might judge me a little bit,
151
but it's been a while since I've been in a town.
152
I do not have a lot of food left.
153
I have one can of beans and one can of corns.
154
So tonight I am literally, where's my spoon?
155
Somewhere in my bed.
156
I'm eating out of the cans for dinner tonight.
157
And then whatever I don't have,
158
I'm putting right in my cooler that doesn't even have ice so i don't know if it's gonna stay good maybe
159
oh here's my spoon this cup is also my
160
this cup is my pea cup and my toothbrush not toothbrush my tooth brushing how do i say that
161
this is the cup that I use for the bathroom and to brush my teeth.
162
All right, let's dump the bean juice and now dump the corn juice.
163
Beans.
164
Corn.
165
I feel like this is what people think vegetarians do eat
166
and now I'm just like showing it off right here
167
but tomorrow I'm definitely gonna make it to the closest town to go shopping
168
and to also take a shower get gas get more water
169
there's a lot to do I really made a 180 though I'm pretty sure I could survive on Survivor now
170
so if that show wants me hit me up cheers
171
look at me all right hat off it's getting super windy
172
so i'm gonna close my trunk now i forgot to press play
173
but i closed the back it's pretty late now so i'm gonna go sleep first teeth and meds.
174
It's time to see will I make it through the night.
175
Good night, everyone.
176
I did it.
177
I made it through the night at my camp spot,
178
and it was way less scary than the first time.
179
I headed to the closest town to buy some groceries,
180
fill up my tank, grab a nice cup of coffee,
181
and get some work done.
