You ready?
5
So today, I'm going to talk about extreme sports.
6
I'm by no means an expert on this topic, but I've dabbled in some of these sports in the past.
7
Let's talk first about some of the most common ones.
8
The first sport that comes to my mind is skateboarding, which is something that I did when I was younger.
9
When I was about 14, my friends and I went through a skating phase like many other American teenagers do.
10
I didn't actually get that good at it, but I learned some simple tricks that I could probably still even do now if I tried.
11
I only did street skating, and I never actually tried vert skating.
12
Luckily, I didn't injure myself too bad during that time.
13
No broken bones or even any sprains.
14
The only thing that I hurt was my pride, when I ate it, or fell down really bad.
15
That phase of my life only lasted about a year and a half or so, and then I moved on to other things.
16
Another extreme sport that I've done several times is snowboarding.
17
My first snowboarding experience was downright miserable, because I didn't start out on the beginner slopes, or the bunny slopes as we call them.
18
Nope, my friends took me to the top of the mountain on my first go and wished me luck getting down.
19
I eventually did get down, but not before falling and eating snow time after time.
20
And since it was my first time, I had to break most of the way down, which puts your legs in a really uncomfortable position.
21
Needless to say, my lower body was completely beat after that first session.
22
However, the next two times that I went snowboarding were much better.
23
I actually got the hang of it and learned to do it the way it's supposed to be done.
24
So now I like it, and I'm looking forward to going again sometime.
25
My parents used to make me ski when I was young because they liked going to the mountains to ski, but I didn't like it.
26
Snowboarding's way more fun in my opinion.
27
So another popular extreme sport is surfing, which is pretty popular in my home state of California.
28
I tried surfing once, but I couldn't even stand up on the board really.
29
There are a couple times
30
when I sort of got into a semi standing position for a couple seconds and then I fell off.
31
The same thing happened to me when I tried wakeboarding.
32
If you don't know what this is, this is the sport where you're towed on the back of a boat while you ride the boat's wake, the little wave that trails behind the boat.
33
I couldn't even get into a standing position when I tried this.
34
I was able to stand up when I tried water skiing, but it was also really hard to keep my balance.
35
One other activity that I've done that might not really qualify as an extreme sport, but What is still cool is parasailing.
36
This is where you're attached to the back of a boat with a seat and a kite above you, and when the boat goes forward, you go flying in the air behind it.
37
It can be a little scary, especially if you're afraid of heights, but it's super fun.
38
I did this once when my family was on vacation in the Florida Keys.
39
Some of the other extreme sports that I haven't done include skydiving, bungee jumping, and hang gliding, which are probably the scariest of all the extreme sports.
40
Alright that's all for today.
41
Leave a comment and tell me which extreme sports you've tried.
