I know it's been a while since the last time I recorded this podcast.

So in this podcast today I'm going to tell you guys

why it has been a few weeks since I last uploaded

and I'm going to give you guys a big update on what has been going on

behind the scenes at What's Up English.

So as you may know, What's Up English is my company.

It's not a company that I work for,

but it's a company that I started myself and that I operate and basically make the decisions for.

And I have some very close team members that I work with,

So I don't do everything alone and they help me a ton to get things done.

There have been a few things that we have been working on for the past few weeks.

And one big thing has been the communication course.

Many people have asked me about creating a communication course.

and I know many people are really interested in that.

I know you guys like to listen to the podcast and you like to improve your listening skills and learn new words.

However, I know you also really want to practice speaking and I hear you and we are working on something.

I will tell you more about that.

And the second reason why I haven't uploaded in a few weeks is

because we have been improving the pronunciation course that we have right now.

So I'm going to tell you guys about those two things.

First, the communication course, and then second, improving the pronunciation course.

and then at the end of the video I will tell you guys about some exciting new styles of videos

that I'm going to be making

that have to do with going outside on the street

and giving you kind of a look into my life

and giving you more real English practice that is like daily life on the street.

Totally natural.

Okay, let's get started.

The first thing is I will tell you guys about the communication course that we have been working on.

So this course is designed to take you from a beginner speaking level,

the level where you can understand me and you can say some things, but you can't really speak.

So it will take you from there, which is pretty much like A1 level,

and it will bring you to around the B2 level.

We're designing the course to take you step by step from A1 to B2

and teach you everything you need to know in a way that is like a realistic,

conversational, communicational style.

And in order to do that, it requires a lot of input and a lot of practice.

So the plan so far, what we've been designing is every lesson is going to have real conversations,

interesting ones with visuals.

we're going to have short stories that you

so you can practice your listening and learn new vocabulary words

and reinforce the speaking and grammar structures that you learned in

that lesson and also there will be mp3s

that you can listen to on the go that will help you with speaking and listening.

So in general, there's going to be a lot of content

that will start easy and then get harder and harder and harder.

And you might be wondering, well, how will I practice?

Like you'll have all these conversations, you'll have mini stories, you'll have mp3s, but how will you practice.

And so that's why we're also going to be opening a community

which will involve speaking sessions where you can practice the things you learn in the course.

So basically, it will be a course that you can learn on your own with conversations and scripts,

and then we'll have classes so you can practice those things.

So it combines learning and practice and immersion.

In the community, you will have an environment for learning English as well

because it will be full of people who are like you.

They want to learn English.

They're excited about it.

And so this will be a place where you can post questions, ask questions.

We'll have like a video of the day where we can all watch a video and then talk about it.

There'll be live streams with me where I will interact directly with you guys.

So there will be many, many things.

And of course, there will be a monthly fee.

But the goal is to make this extremely valuable,

extremely useful for you at a fee that is really reasonable, like almost cheap.

So that is the goal, to make something really fantastic at a really good price.

Because doing all this work, we can't do it for free, right?

What's Up English is a business.

We do need to make money to survive and grow and continue to make better things.

But we truly, truly want to make the best things possible for you guys.

And to do that, we're also doing a lot of research on what methods work.

You know, what actually has scientific research behind it that shows it is effective for learning a language.

We're not guessing these things.

We're learning what actually works and we're applying it to our products.

And the reason why we're going to have all of these things available is because I will tell you right now,

there is no one course that will make you fluent.

If somebody says you learn their course and you will be fluent, they're lying.

There is no one course that can do it.

Learning a language requires so much time and listening and practicing

that it's simply impossible to create a course that will do all of that for you.

However, what courses are really good for is for guiding you in the right direction and helping you learn piece by piece.

Because when you learn that way, you feel more motivated, you feel more confident,

and you feel like you're really making progress, right?

Like, oh, I learned this and that felt good.

I understood that and that felt good.

So you want to keep learning.

And so while you learn these courses, if you are watching YouTube videos, reading books, talking to people,

doing all this in English, then after like six months, a year, you will be surprised at how much better you get.

And then once you're at that conversational level, at the level where you can understand YouTube videos,

you can understand people speaking, then it's kind of like a snowball effect.

Because when you understand things, then you listen more.

And when you listen more, you learn more.

And when you can speak English, maybe you will speak to people more.

And so the more you know, the better you get and the faster you learn.

So yeah, that covers the complete community and communication course that we are creating.

When we first opened the pronunciation course,

it had over 50 videos teaching every sound in American English plus some shadowing videos.

Now, in each of those videos, teaching every sound, let's say the sound was I, for example, I.

First, I taught the theory of how to say the sound with your mouth.

And then we did a lot of practice with words, minimal pairs.

For example, like sheep, ship,

and a lot of daily life sentences to practice actually using the sound in sentences.

Because many people, they can say a word, but when they speak the sentence, their pronunciation kind of falls apart.

So it's really important to practice it in sentences.

Now, apart from that, in the video player, we had a looping function.

And what that means is that you could listen or watch the video and choose part A and then part B.

And then it would replay that over and over.

So you could choose a part in the video to start and then a part to stop, maybe a sentence or a word.

and it would just repeat that part again and again so you could listen and practice.

Now that is a very useful feature but we wanted to make it even easier for you to practice.

So what we've been working on now is a tool where instead of choosing a word or sentence in the video,

you can scroll down under the video and click any word or sentence from that video

and select it and it will automatically play that word or sentence again and again.

And this is for you to listen and to repeat that word or sentence to practice.

So we are upgrading this even more

so you will be able to listen to your recording and then listen to the native speaker's pronunciation and compare it.

Now this is extremely useful for learning pronunciation.

It's the main tool that I use for learning Vietnamese pronunciation.

I did it in a different way, but essentially I took Vietnamese words and sentences

and I put them on loop and I listened to them again and again and again.

So with the pronunciation course, soon we'll have the communication course as well.

So we will have a complete A to Z system for learning where you can learn starting at pronunciation,

learning words and sentences, and then start learning communication from level A1 all the way to B2.

That is the plan.

That's what we're working on at What's Up English.

And I'm very excited because I genuinely think this will be one of the best ways to learn.

But the thing is, it will take a while, maybe a few months before we have the community ready and the communication course.
