Pratique du Shadowing: MLM TOP FAILS #80 | Debate over MLMs at Lindsay Clancy Trial #ANTIMLM - Apprendre l'anglais à l'oral avec la vidéo

1
Hello and welcome back to another episode of MLM Top Fails.
2
This is a series on my channel where we talk about the craziness that is multi-level marketing.
3
MLMs are those business opportunities where you pay to sign up to sell a company's products
4
and then you harass everybody you've ever known to sign up underneath you.
5
And that recruitment aspect is typically how you make most of your money.
6
As you can imagine, people in these MLM companies post the most outrageous things on social media in the name of making money
7
and this series on my channel is dedicated to calling them out
8
and systematically debunking what they're saying using logic and rational thinking
9
because so much of these mlm business opportunities don't make logical sense
10
and so these videos the goal of them is to try
11
and poke holes in the common arguments to really highlight the
12
dangers of getting yourself involved with an mlm i do rely heavily on viewer submissions for these videos
13
so if you see something on social media
14
that you think would be a good fit for an mlm
15
top fails the instructions for how to send those to me
16
are in the description box of every single one of my videos.
17
And what I'll do is every so often I'll go through those submissions
18
and I'll pull out the top best of the best things
19
that have been sent to me recently and then I compile them to make these MLM top fails videos.
20
I've got eight insane things to show you today so let's go.
21
Let's kick this video off with a good old classic clip of an MLM hun getting really mad at the haters.
22
These kinds of videos are a dime a dozen.
23
I always find them entertaining.
24
I saw this real earlier.
25
It got me a little fired up.
26
I'm usually not one to get on here and be argumentative or passive aggressive, but sometimes I feel like it's need to be put in their place.
27
Okay.
28
Firstly, if things were like they used to be, you guys wouldn't be saying any of this on social media
29
because you wouldn't even be bold enough to say it to people's faces.
30
Okay.
31
If you're making a video and being anti-monate, please make sure that your hair is fixed and or healthy before you make the video.
32
Just please.
33
You tell me, do you think I'm qualified to have an opinion on monate because of my hair.
34
I use Olaplex by the way.
35
Monate has never touched my hair, thank god.
36
But for real, like what a petty thing to say
37
that you're not allowed to share your opinion about Monate
38
or your opinion about it is not valid if you don't have good hair.
39
You can tell that she's kind of misunderstanding the issue with MLMs
40
because the main thing that people have a problem with is
41
that these are predatory garbage companies that breed this culture of toxicity
42
and manipulation and most people who join it will actually financially suffer because of it.
43
Your hair has nothing to do with your critical thinking skills, of which many people in MLMs seem to be lacking
44
because they really truly believe that they're gonna become millionaires by selling overpriced shampoo.
45
Discrediting somebody's opinion
46
or the points they're raising on a matter based on their
47
appearance is one of the most immature comebacks I can think of.
48
All that tells me is that you're incapable of refuting the actual points they're making, so you're resorting to personal attacks instead.
49
As far as I'm concerned, you can be bald and still have valid opinions on Monat
50
that are worth listening to because at the end of the day, the quality of the products really isn't the biggest issue here.
51
So we don't want to hear anyone's opinion who parents still pay their car insurance.
52
I'm sorry, but if you've never struggled before and you don't have to have a second stream of income, that I love that for you.
53
But some of us grew up in poverty and we want to change our circumstances.
54
So therefore, that's why we decided to join a brand and get paid for using their products.
55
Okay.
56
No scam there, baby.
57
No scam.
58
See, this part is understandable.
59
Wanting to pull yourself out of a difficult financial position, needing an additional stream of income, you're looking to make more money for your family.
60
Literally, nobody is faulting you for that.
61
We are faulting you for the income stream you have chosen, however, because MLMs are not the way.
62
They're not the solution to this problem.
63
As I have said countless times and countless videos over the years, statistically, you are far more likely to lose money in an MLM.
64
In Monat specifically, 91% of people who join this company are stuck at the bottom rank, earning a median annual income of $8 last year.
65
$8!
66
The cheapest starter kit to join Monat is $99, so guess what that means?
67
A lot of people who have joined have actually lost money.
68
How is joining a business opportunity where you're spending more money
69
than you're making gonna help you towards this goal of working yourself out of poverty?
70
And then they'll come back and argue, well, those people at the bottom, they just didn't work that hard.
71
Look at these upper ranks.
72
Do you see how much those people are making?
73
That's the potential.
74
That's what's possible with our company.
75
Yeah, they only make that much because they've conned other women into joining underneath them.
76
You can only get yourself out of the bottom rank if you recruit.
77
That's literally a requirement of the compensation plan.
78
And who are the people that you decide to recruit?
79
Other women who are struggling financially, who are in a tough spot, who need another stream of income.
80
And how do those people start making worthwhile money? they find people of their own that are struggling, that need a second stream of income, okay?
81
This is the problem, and this is where people in MLMs misconstrue the criticism.
82
They think that anti-MLM is synonymous with anti-women or anti-financial freedom, and you just want women to be poor and trapped and stuck.
83
Like, no. They take it very personally.
84
Like, I'm just trying to provide for my family and make some extra money, and you're hating on me for it, which is not the case at all.
85
We want the same thing.
86
We want you to succeed and do well financially.
87
We're just trying to communicate that this is not the way to do that.
88
This is going to end up doing more harm than good and that harm doesn't just end with you.
89
It extends down this endless chain of recruitment where countless women
90
have to suffer in order for a few at the top to succeed.
91
And I'll leave you with this.
92
Just because you're a hairstylist and you have a license in cosmetology doesn't mean
93
that you're smarter than the girls on the internet with better hair than you.
94
Sorry, not sorry.
95
I've been a hairstylist for a decade and nothing, absolutely nothing that I've ever put in my hand and washed a client with compares to Monat.
96
Okay?
97
And that's my personal opinion.
98
All of these are my personal opinions.
99
But, you know, it is a little annoying to get on here
100
and see people act like they're girls' girls
101
and want to see people be successful and want to do this and want to do that.
102
But in reality, they're low-key haters and don't want to see anyone do something outside of the norm and be successful.
103
That's crazy to me.
104
Like, that's so crazy to me.
105
And what's crazy to me is that people in MLMs can't see how what they're doing is predatory.
106
This is just a game of don't be at the bottom of the food chain.
107
And the only way to get yourself out of the bottom is to go find people to come and take your place.
108
So now they're at the bottom
109
and it's their responsibility to find people to put below them so that they can get themselves out of the bottom too.
110
The issue with MLMs is twofold.
111
Not only do most people that join not make any money at all, But if you are making money, then you're doing it at the expense of other people that aren't.
112
And what's crazy to me is that people in MLMs can't see how that's problematic.
113
The Lord blessed us with Monat.
114
A lot of us believe that Monat is a God thing.
115
So who are you to sit on your side of your iPhone and act like it's some woo-woo BS?
116
Believing that God created Monat is one of the most delusional things I've heard in a while.
117
God didn't bless you with Monat.
118
You got recruited by a woman who was desperate for money and she saw you as an easy target.
119
You fell for it and here you are continuing the cycle.
120
Pretty sure God wouldn't condone that kind of behavior.
121
It literally changed our lives and
122
if you want to know more about it we're going to be going live tonight at nine o'clock EST,
123
eight o'clock CST, so come get some information for some people who actually know what's up in the Monat world.
124
Point proven
125
because she ends this video by inviting you to a Zoom call where she hopes she can convince you to join Why?
126
Because that's how she makes money.
127
She needs you She can sit here
128
and be mad all day long about the anti-MLM haters for calling out this problematic recruitment cycle
129
But here she is still proving the point at the end
130
of the day That's the beautiful part about this People in
131
MLMs love to talk this big game about how they're not this, they're not that, we're misunderstood and then they immediately contradict themselves and prove our point through their actions.
132
It's really, it makes my job very easy.
133
You know what else makes my job very easy?
134
Having a box that shows up on my doorstep once a week full of groceries
135
and recipes that I didn't have to plan for and didn't have to shop for.
136
That's the luxury I've been enjoying for the last year and a half thanks to the sponsor of today's video, Hungry Root.
137
I'm a paying Hungry Root customer
138
and it's become a part of my weekly routine to go in and customize every part of our grocery order.
139
I like to hand select everything.
140
I'm kind of a control freak about it.
141
I like to get a couple of dinner recipes and then I'll get some breakfast items, snacks, drinks, sweet treats, things like that.
142
I have my favorites.
143
I know what I like.
144
I kind of have my staples that I go to week after week.
145
And for the first time in 20 months of being a Hungry Root customer, I forgot to edit my order last week.
146
They send you a little text reminder to do it.
147
And I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, I'll do that later.
148
Guess who didn't do it later?
149
So the next notification I got was your Hungry Root order is on the way.
150
And I went, oh, crap.
151
I forgot to go in and edit what I wanted.
152
But then I was like, actually, this could be kind of fun.
153
Hungry Root has a smart cart system where it will automatically
154
pre-fill your cart with things it knows you're gonna like based on the feedback you have given previous orders.
155
So I was like, this could be a fun like mystery box surprise as I'm unpacking it
156
and like see how well the smart cart actually knows me.
157
And let me tell you, it knows me pretty dang well.
158
It sent me a couple of dinner recipes that we've never tried before, but the ingredients that the recipe used are things that we like like this grilled chicken bowl with rice, fresh salsa, and avocado spread.
159
This was so good that I'm gonna start incorporating it into the regular rotation.
160
In here was also a bunch of snacks that are tried and true for us.
161
We love these, but then they also included a couple of new things that we've never tried before, like these overnight oats and these apple chips.
162
This cashew butter chocolate bar was new to me and it's already gone because it was so good.
163
Forgetting to edit my box this week was actually kind of like a blessing in disguise
164
because it forced me to step out, try some new things, and in turn, I ended up loving a lot of what they sent that I will now include in future orders.
165
And it was also great confirmation that the smart cart system works exactly as intended.
166
And it was kind of fun to just give up the control, let the box arrive on my doorstep and be surprised with what we got.
167
I might start intentionally doing this more often, especially as we're heading into the craziness that is back to school season and then straight into the holidays.
168
It's one less thing on my plate that I'm so grateful for
169
and the variety and the convenience of it is what keeps me coming back.
170
I'm confident you're going to love Hunger Root as much as I do.
171
And for a limited time, you can get 40% off your first order, plus a free item in every box for life.

174
Thanks again, Hungeroot, for sponsoring today's video.
175
Up next is also a post from a Monat rep, but this has ties to the Lindsay Clancy trial that's been going on recently.
176
Just some brief context in case you're not familiar, we're not going to dwell on the details of this trigger warning for death of a minor, death of multiple minors, unfortunately.
177
A woman named Lindsay Clancy is on trial in Massachusetts, and she's being charged with murdering her three children.
178
This is a very complex case.
179
It's dealing with a big postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis narrative from the defense side.
180
Some people online are having a heyday with different conspiracy theories saying that the husband actually committed these crimes, and he's framing his wife, Lindsay.
181
There are countless podcast videos, commentary pieces about this whole trial and all the details of that.
182
If you're interested, I'm not going to get too in the weeds with that here, but it's been a huge topic of conversation here in the U.S recently.
183
The entire trial has been live streamed.
184
You can find it on YouTube.
185
And as of the time of filming this video this morning, the jury is on their third day of deliberation.
186
So we don't have a verdict yet.
187
I don't know what the verdict is going to be.
188
This has been an exceptionally heated and complex case where the public is basically choosing sides.
189
Some people are on the side of the defense claiming
190
that she is not criminally liable for these three deaths because of her postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis diagnosis and her over-medication for those conditions.
191
And there's a larger conversation there about not taking maternal mental health seriously
192
or women not getting proper mental health care in the postpartum period.
193
But then there are a lot of people on the prosecution side saying
194
that you can't just kill your three kids and get away with it, end of story.
195
And you might be thinking, Hannah, why are we talking about the Lindsay Clancy case?
196
Like, what does this have to do with MLMs?
197
And funny you should ask because I have the same question.
198
MLM reps have a very unique talent of making everything about them and weaseling a pitch into the most inappropriate of situations.
199
This Mon 8 rep, who's had me blocked for a long time, by the way, posted these two slides on her Instagram story.
200
The first one says, I have completely wrecked my algorithm by doom scrolling everything surrounding this Lindsay Clancy case, whether you think she did it or he did it, curious about your thoughts.
201
It's so sad and I don't recommend immersing yourself in things like this.
202
Okay, not so bad.
203
Not really anything weird to see here until we get to the next slide.
204
Then she says, one of the things I love most about how busy my business keeps me is
205
that I have to cut out 99% of news and TV watching, et cetera.
206
It's seriously just so bad for you to be all consumed with tragic things
207
that you can't control or stupid mindless garbage TV.
208
I just slipped up the last couple of days and it's a good reminder.
209
Not an MLM boss babe using a murder trial to promote how busy her money business keeps her.
210
I'm just usually so busy with my super successful business that I started all by myself.
211
I spend all of my time making so much money
212
that I just don't really have an opportunity to keep up with current events.
213
They genuinely can't help themselves.
214
It is a compulsion at this point.
215
God forbid you post about something other than Monat from time to time.
216
No, no, no, we can't have that.
217
If you wanna post your opinion about current events, you better figure out a way to wedge a Monat pitch in there somewhere.
218
It's truly so bizarre.
219
It's unnatural, it's unnecessary, it's straight up weird.
220
Like it's honestly so weird to look at.
221
They are toxically enmeshed with their companies that it's almost like they can't separate themselves from it.
222
It's like they don't know what to post
223
or how to act without mentioning the business in literally every single circumstance they talk about.
224
From a viewer perspective, that has got to be so irritating.
225
Like, is it even possible to talk about anything else these days?
226
Or is being a Monat girl your entire personality?
227
And wouldn't you believe it, we're actually not done talking about the Lindsay Clancy trial in this video.
228
Because a different MLM company was actually brought up at trial, in court.
229
Lindsay Clancy's psychologist, Dr. Paul Zeisel, was testifying as one of the defense's key witnesses at trial.
230
The summary of his testimony is that Lindsay Clancy was suffering from severe bipolar disorder as well as postpartum psychosis,
231
and that she, quote, had no appreciation for the wrongfulness of her act.
232
Basically, he is supporting this defense's insanity position that Lindsay was just out of her mind, she didn't know what she was doing at the time, and therefore she's not criminally liable for it.
233
And what I'm gonna show you is a short clip from the trial where the prosecutor is cross-examining Dr. Zeisel, and in this clip, a brief debate about MLMs comes up.
234
It's really entertaining.
235
But to understand what's going on in the clip, you need this context.
236
So the defense is claiming that Lindsay was in this manic episode.
237
She was making rash decisions.
238
She was really out of character for herself.
239
And one example of this is how she became obsessed with fitness and working out really, really quickly after her third son, Callan, was born.
240
Usually women are not cleared to start exercising again until at least six weeks postpartum
241
And that's because if you rush into high intensity training too soon You can cause things like hemorrhaging, incontinence issues, buterine prolapse, pelvic floor problems
242
If you're putting all of this like strain
243
and pressure on these already weakened muscles That's going to cause
244
some pretty significant issues for you It's better to just like chill out Let
245
that stuff kind of heal itself a little bit before you get back into exercising
246
but reportedly starting just after a week after her third son was born, Lindsay started waking up at 4 a.m to go on runs.
247
Then she would come home and she would do 30 minutes on the peloton
248
and then she'd do 30 minutes of extra aerobic exercise.
249
It states here that only five weeks after her third son was born, she ran a five-mile race.
250
These are the kinds of decisions that can be seen as risky
251
or unsafe for a newly postpartum woman and they're being cited as a reason
252
or evidence as like she's not making wise decisions during this time.
253
She reportedly was having a lot of body image issues
254
and really wanted to like get back to her pre-pregnancy self
255
and she was forcing herself into that really really quickly after giving birth.
256
It was also during this freshly postpartum time
257
that Lindsay reportedly signed up for Beachbody and she started promoting it on her Facebook page.
258
So coming from an anti-MLM perspective, that is a huge red flag.
259
I can understand why the defense included this as like a potential indicator
260
that she was not in her right mind during this time.
261
As we know, MLMs are extremely predatory, especially during really vulnerable periods of someone's life, like being newly postpartum, like feeling uncomfortable in your body,
262
like wanting to get back to your pre-baby self as quickly as humanly possible, even if that means putting yourself at risk.
263
It could make sense that somebody in this mindset would fall victim to an MLM opportunity like Beachbody, where they truly believe that if they just invest some money
264
that they're going to gain access to all these workout programs that are going to make them fit.
265
They're going to gain access to these supplements they can take that can help them drop some weight, that they can then promote this to other people to make some money out of it too.
266
Like they see joining this MLM as the solution to a variety of different problems
267
that they're looking to fix in this vulnerable time.
268
But joining an MLM oftentimes doesn't make logical, rational sense.
269
And if you are thinking critically and clearly, then there's a kind of a very small chance that you would sign up for one.
270
But if you put yourself in Lindsay's shoes, where you are in a vulnerable state, where your hormones are out of whack, you're sleep deprived, you're dealing with mental health episodes,
271
then you might be more susceptible to making irrational and impulsive decisions like signing up for an MLM business opportunity.
272
And just to insert a little bit of my personal opinion here, I still don't think that any of these things are a good excuse for killing your children.
273
I don't think that any of these things really prove that that was an okay decision to make.
274
However, from an anti-MLM perspective, I can understand why the defense included this narrative And in this clip, we've got Lindsay's psychologist, Dr. Zizel,
275
who is on the stand and is of the opinion
276
that Lindsay joining Beachbody was a big concern and actually gives credence to the insanity plea.
277
And this is what happened when the prosecutor cross-examined him on this point.
278
She exercised pretty frequently before birth.
279
Yes.
280
And while pregnant with Callan.
281
And while post-pregnancy with her children as well, yes.
282
so it was part of her routine fair to say right it's part of everyday living things sometimes change
283
when you have a baby and a few weeks later
284
if you're still doing the same exercise it's sometimes a reflection of something other than committed to fitness
285
and you you identify um what refer to as a marketing scam being
286
that beach body um business right yes um but you're aware
287
that that's a series of workouts in a line of um nutritional shakes
288
and exercise plans that millions of people engage in across the country yes
289
so it's not a scam it's just a way of that's a lifestyle choice
290
if you do something for marketing and you lose all your money
291
and there's no effort to get
292
that back it's a scam yeah you've asked them you can kind of figure out what his definition is
293
so did she tell you she lost money with a beach body yes when was that
294
it was uh summer of 2022 after her third child was born no
295
when did she tell you that she lost money I don't recall
296
that and is it in your report it may be
297
but I'm not sure well I have it with me
298
or do you have it up there can you look
299
and point to me where she told you at what point she told you she lost money in this endeavor
300
I don't know where it is
301
if it's here it didn't seem relevant whether she lost money
302
in a scam after her child was born in terms of
303
the big picture of what we're here for today you described it as a scam
304
because you said she lost money so wouldn't it be important to know
305
if she actually lost money i don't really think
306
so okay this is absolutely delightful from an anti-mln perspective
307
because beach body was just labeled a quote scam in open court repeatedly okay
308
and you And you can tell that the prosecutor is like pretty irritated about this.
309
It's almost like she's taking it really personally or like it's striking a personal chord with her or something.
310
She's like, it's not a scam.
311
It's a lifestyle choice.
312
They sell nutritional shakes and workout plans used by millions of people.
313
How is that a scam?
314
And then he tries to answer that question or respond to it by saying that, quote, if you join a marketing opportunity where then you lose all of your money, it's a scam.
315
And as he's explaining that, she tries to like interject and cut him off.
316
And then the judge scolds her for interrupting and for not letting him finish his thoughts.
317
So it kind of sounds like she was a Beachbody hun, does it not?
318
No evidence for that, I'm not claiming that she was, but like this is the classic argument that anti-MLM versus pro-MLM get into all the time.
319
And for legal purposes, I, Hannah Alonzo, am not asserting that Beachbody is a scam for the record.
320
I'm just saying that it was brought up that way in court in this situation.
321
And you've got the pro side saying, no, this is totally legitimate.
322
You can join this and they offer these products and they work really well and you can make some extra money.
323
And then you have people on the anti-MLM side saying, look, is it really that great if you join and you spend all this money and you don't make anything back?
324
Like, I just thought that this was hilarious, that like they're getting into a literal debate about what an MLM is and the legitimacy of it in open court.
325
The prosecutor is trying to make the point that Lindsay was just fine and she was in her right mind.
326
She's always been fit and active and joining Beachbody is a perfectly rational
327
and appropriate thing to do just a few weeks postpartum.
328
And the psychologist is downright denying that by basically being like, no, MLMs are so risky, nobody in their right mind would join one.
329
They're pretty much getting into an argument about how to classify Beachbody, and I think that's so funny.
330
And regardless of where you stand on this trial or what you believe happened or what side you're taking, you have to admit that it is quite satisfying to see
331
that somebody joining Beachbody is almost being positioned as like evidence that this person was in a manic episode in open court.
332
Beachbody is just out here catching strays in the middle of a murder trial, and I love to see it.
333
In other relevant news, let's talk about the cyclospora outbreak in the U.S recently.
334
You know, the Taylor Farms diarrhea lettuce situation, as they're calling it.
335
If you're not from the U.S., congratulations, I'm very happy for you.
336
But this summer, we had an outbreak.
337
This is an outbreak of the cyclospora parasite that has been causing, quote, explosive diarrhea as the main symptom.
338
And for many weeks, we didn't know where this parasite was coming from.
339
But it was highly speculated that it was coming from fresh produce.
340
particularly produce that you don't cook so therefore you're not killing it with heat
341
and also produce that you can't wash very well.
342
So we're thinking things like lettuce, fresh herbs, berries, raw broccoli
343
and for a good portion of the summer this year the
344
guidance just was yeah you should probably stay away from fresh
345
produce until we figure out where this parasite is coming from
346
and it was eventually traced back to the company Taylor Farms and their iceberg lettuce.
347
But in the meantime this caused a lot of anxiety, a lot of panic in people kind of feeling like fresh food, fresh produce wasn't safe to be eating,
348
which this Optivia rep took advantage of.
349
She saw this as an opportunity to promote her products naturally.
350
Another day of being home with the stomach thing.
351
I'm beginning to think it might be the parasite thing.
352
I realize I've eaten a lot of cherries lately.
353
I got some really good ones at Costco and then went on a cherry binge.
354
I know that I bought some lettuce and maybe I just didn't wash them all that well.
355
I thought I did.
356
I used a washing clean, you know, a vegetable cleaner, a fruit cleaner.
357
And yet here I am not in Orlando where I'm supposed to be.
358
I am here.
359
So maybe it is the parasite thing, but you know what?
360
You know, it doesn't give you parasites.
361
All of this food, all of this, all of this just gives you health.
362
No parasites, no parasites.
363
You want something easy to grab That'll just make you happy for the day.
364
All of this.
365
No worries about parasites.
366
No worries.
367
Just health.
368
Hmm.
369
You want to know why there's a low risk of parasites in Optivia food?
370
Because it's hardly food.
371
It's exceptionally processed powders that you mix with water and then you choke down.
372
In fact, they don't even call the products food.
373
They call it fuelings.
374
Like this company was founded by aliens who are trying their best to pretend to be humans.
375
Like, what's the word for that thing that humans put into their mouths when they're experiencing hunger?
376
Oh yes, fuel.
377
We'll call them fuelings.
378
Here's a photo of some of these fuelings.
379
This is the kind of thing that's sitting next to her on the table as she's claiming that they're all parasite-free.
380
Essentially, most of these fuelings are just packets of powder made primarily of whey protein or soy protein concentrate
381
that then you mix with water
382
and you heat it up to create things like soup
383
or chili or pancakes or brownies but then there are also powders
384
that you can mix to make things like smoothies or protein shakes.
385
And then they've got things like protein bars and cereals too.
386
And the way Optivia works is
387
that you pay hundreds of dollars a month for all these Optivia fuelings to be shipped to your house, and then you follow a plan where you eat multiple fuelings a day in place of food,
388
with the primary goal being weight loss, rapid weight loss.
389
For example, the five-in-one plan, which is supposed to be the most aggressive, it outlines that you should be eating five fuelings and one real meal a day, as I call it.
390
And that one real meal is also highly restrictive.
391
It's exactly what you would imagine, like some kind of lean protein, a lot of green vegetables, hardly any carbs, hardly any fats.
392
A few years ago, somebody sent me a bunch of these fuelings to my PO box
393
and I prepared and tasted them on camera.
394
And I talked about the different nutritional values and the ingredients and stuff.
395
And the summary of that video is that these fuelings are generally disgusting.
396
They are disappointingly tiny portions and also extremely low calorie.
397
If I'm remembering correctly, each fueling was like around a hundred calories each
398
and you're allowed five of them per day around 500 calories plus one.
399
I think they call them lean and green meals where you're supposed to have a lean protein and a green vegetable, which is also extremely low calorie.
400
It's basically just flavored protein powder that you mix up
401
and you try to convince yourself that it tastes anything like the box claims.
402
And the Optivia programs are extremely effective for weight loss because you're hardly eating anything.
403
You're effectively starving yourself.
404
It's a restriction diet.
405
It's an expensive gateway drug to an eating disorder.
406
All my own opinion.
407
Weight loss is an equation.
408
You expend more calories than you consume and you're gonna lose weight.
409
And Optivia works by restricting your calories to such a low number
410
that your body freaks out and it drops all this weight really fast.
411
It's my opinion that this is not sustainable, that you're gonna gain all the weight right back once you're off the program, whether that's because you can't afford it or because you're sick of these fuelings and they're disgusting,
412
you don't want to keep torturing yourself with them
413
and the optivia plans are certainly not healthy by any definition of the word
414
and it's insane to me
415
that this woman is resorting to being like hey buy optivia from me
416
and you won't get the parasite this stuff won't give you diarrhea
417
which i still think is highly debatable but like really
418
that is the selling point the standards are so low here
419
that you are promoting your mlm's poor excuse for food on the basis
420
that it won't make you poop yourself
421
and that's why you should want to buy it like that's actually asinine i cannot believe
422
that she's promoting it in this way she's trying to capitalize on this collective fear
423
that we're having as a country of fresh produce right now to try
424
and market her pre-packaged highly processed fuelings
425
and i actually have a second video from this same rep
426
where in this one she's trying to market it as a
427
health solution not just as something that's going to help you lose a lot of weight really quickly
428
but rather it's something that's going to help eliminate different quote pre-disease states
429
and quote long-term illness and disease do you take medications
430
that your doctor prescribes maybe you're a diabetic
431
and the doctor has prescribed you metformin maybe you have high cholesterol high triglycerides
432
and the doctor has prescribed you a statin maybe you have a lot of arthritis pain
433
and the doctor has given you celebrex or naproxen or told you to take tylenol arthritis or Aleve or ibuprofen.
434
Maybe you have had strep throat or some sort of bacterial infection
435
or the parasite like I'm getting over and the doctor prescribed you an antibiotic.
436
I know the doctor prescribed me one antibiotic and a stomach relaxer, which I took and it wasn't really working.
437
And so he prescribed me another one.
438
39 years ago, I had cancer and the treatment was chemotherapy.
439
And I gave the doctor's permission to inject me with poison to kill the thing that was trying to kill me.
440
And I'm still here.
441
And I'm very thankful for it.
442
That yes, made all the difference in the world.
443
I could have died, but I am here.
444
Why do I bring these things up?
445
Because the programs that I coach with a company called Trilovie, it used to be Optivia,
446
is like medicine for your health.
447
Now it happens to taste amazing.
448
It's not steak and lobster, you know, although it could be, you can eat steak and lobster on plan.
449
Um, but it does help make you healthy.
450
How does it do it?
451
Well, it's scientifically and medically designed to work with a human body to restore a metabolic reset.
452
So it's like a factory reset.
453
It's like, you know, hitting the button
454
and having everything go back to the way it's supposed to be aligned and then moving forward.
455
It has a variety of different programs and a variety of different plans and options for you depending on your unique case.
456
But what I can tell you is it eliminates visceral fat, which is choking your organs.
457
It helps with liver health.
458
It gets rid of joint pain.
459
It helps with arthritis.
460
It It helps with your mental wellbeing.
461
Plus the diabetes stuff, the blood pressure, the cholesterol, they normalize, which is incredible.
462
So we're eliminating pre-disease illnesses or pre-disease states that cause long-term illness and disease.
463
She's dancing around the explicit claims for legal reasons, but she's essentially saying that if you do an OPTAVIA plan and you take these fuelings, then you will reverse or cure your diabetes,
464
your arthritis, your blood pressure, your high cholesterol problems, your liver problems.
465
You know what else helps to make all those things better and to help certain health conditions?
466
Losing weight.
467
So I guess in a consequential way, Optivia would be helping to fix these different health issues
468
because these plans are forcing your body into such a severe caloric deficit where you are guaranteed to lose weight
469
if you follow the plan exactly, which then might help improve things like your blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, pain, whatever.
470
But it's not like these Optivia fuelings have some kind of magical ingredient that specifically addresses these health issues.
471
It's just going to help you drop a lot of weight really quickly, which yes, eliminating excess weight,
472
eliminating excess body fat is good to help your body function better in a variety of different ways.
473
But in my eyes, Optivia is the equivalent of a crash diet, which is not healthy.
474
If you wanna lose weight and get your health back on track, go on Google, type in calorie deficit calculator.
475
Eat the amount of calories it tells you to eat.
476
That's quite literally it.
477
It's not easy.
478
It's gonna suck it's gonna feel restrictive.
479
Tracking your food is a pain in the butt and really, really annoying, but it is a simple process.
480
You don't have to sign up for an MLM.
481
You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars a month on fuelings, and you don't have to choke down things that you don't actually like eating.
482
I actually have a bit of experience with this lately because from January through May of this year, I was pregnant and I gained 20 pounds during that pregnancy.
483
And then unfortunately, I lost that baby at 21 weeks.
484
And I have spent the last 12 weeks, pretty much the entire summer, are in a calorie deficit.
485
None of that baby weight fell right off.
486
I've had to work my butt off for every single pound and I've lost about 12 pounds in the last 12 weeks, which is a very sustainable rate of weight loss.
487
And you know what kinds of things I've been eating this summer?
488
Burgers, pasta, rice, steak, sourdough bread.
489
I make a really sugary coffee drink every single morning.
490
And this is not an exaggeration.
491
I literally eat ice cream every single night and I have for the last 12 weeks straight.
492
Because if I don't have dessert every single night, I know myself, I'm gonna feel deprived, I'm gonna feel restricted, I'm going to then binge, fall off track, feel like this isn't even worth it and that I can't handle it.
493
So in turn, I just work that ice cream into my daily calories.
494
That's it, you can literally eat whatever kinds of food you want on a calorie deficit, as long as you stay in a deficit, you will lose weight.
495
This means that you're gonna have to get honest with yourself about portion sizes, it means you're gonna have to go through the hassle of tracking every single thing you eat, which is really annoying.
496
You're gonna learn through this process that eating higher protein is gonna keep you more satiated, therefore less miserable.
497
You're gonna learn that eating more vegetables is a good way to increase volume without increasing calories too much.
498
You're gonna have to make some swaps on some things.
499
For example, like I said, I've been eating ice cream every single night, but I've been eating Halo Top ice cream instead of Ben
500
and Jerry's because it's half the calories and it still feels indulgent and like I'm treating myself, but I'm not wasting away too much of my daily caloric budget on ice cream, right?
501
The point is you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars
502
and punish yourself by eating these whey protein powder fuelings if you want to lose weight and address different health concerns.
503
And I'm not condoning this, but you might as well go on a crash diet where you're eating chicken, rice, and broccoli every single meal for months because that's probably just as miserable as eating Optivia,
504
but a whole lot cheaper.
505
And she says one more thing in this video that is extremely alarming to me.
506
Get this.
507
That's what we do.
508
And that means you can live a healthier life.
509
My doctor just referred a new client to me.
510
He does that frequently.
511
He and I link arms
512
and we get his clients healthy to the goals he has for them and they have for themselves.
513
So if you're interested in learning more, whether you've been a past client or never a client before, let's chat.
514
Because I have all kinds of new things to share.
515
And I know, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that going forward, people are going to be living their best lives ever if they work with me.
516
Let's talk.
517
You're telling me that you quote link arms with your doctor
518
and he refers his patients to you to get on an Optivia program?
519
Number one, extremely concerning
520
that a doctor would recommend a starvation diet to his patients as a means of addressing their health concerns.
521
Not a trustworthy doctor if you ask me.
522
And number two, also extremely concerning
523
that he's referring his patients to another one of his patients
524
so that she can financially benefit off of them and their health concerns and their desire to lose weight.
525
I feel like there's got to be like a conflict of interest there or something.
526
I've heard of doctors themselves being in MLMs and prescribing their supplements, their programs, whatever to their own patients as a way to exploit them financially.
527
But this is the first time that I've heard of a doctor sort of being the middleman.
528
Like he is seeing patients all day long with all kinds of different concerns
529
and he is referring them to this other patient he has
530
so that she can sell them Optivia and make some money off of them.
531
There are so many things wrong with this.
532
It's unethical at the very least.
533
And because it came up briefly in this clip, I wanted to also put it out there that Optivia has recently rebranded.
534
Their new name is Trilovie.
535
Here's what the new logo looks like just so you can be on the lookout for it.
536
If you start hearing about Trilovie, it's not a new MLM, it's Optivia repackaged.
537
Here's an infographic that compares what's changing and what's not between the companies.
538
And it says that what's changing is their name.
539
They're now called Trilovie and they now have a broader focus on whole person metabolic health and continued innovation through metabolic synchronization.
540
And what's not changing is the team that you know and trust, aka like your uplines aren't changing, the team building structure is still the same is how I take that.
541
What's not changing is our commitment to science-backed care, human support at every step, and our mission to help people achieve lasting transformation.
542
I went to the new Trilovie website and as far as I can tell it's all the exact same products being sold, but in a newly designed package.
543
For example, here are the sour cream and chive mashed potatoes that I taste tested years ago under the Optivia name.
544
And they're now on the website in a Trilovie branded box and seven servings for $24.
545
Let's not gloss over that.
546
These are literally instant mashed potatoes with protein powder mixed into them.
547
And they're selling them for 24 bucks, which is insane.
548
But then there's also some listings on the Trilovie website
549
that still have the old Optivia box listed like this red bean
550
and vegetable chili that was arguably the worst thing I tried in my taste testing video.
551
And it's not even like they're changing the ingredients either.
552
It looks like they have maybe added a few new fuelings to the product range, but it doesn't look like they've gone back and improved upon the previous formulas, which is really disappointing because they were horrendous.
553
It also appears that the plans are still very similar, although they have renamed them.
554
It used to be called the Optimal Weight 5-in-1 plan, and now it's just called the Reset 5-in-1 plan.
555
So to be fair, I didn't do like this comprehensive comparison on Optivia versus Trilovie, but at first glance, it looks like it's the same exact thing with a different marketing angle.
556
They're ditching a lot of the language they used to use before regarding weight loss and seeing results on the scale, dropping pounds or whatever.
557
And it appears that they have just repackaged the same product, put a new name on it, and now they're marketing it as a metabolic health plan, which like we've already talked about,
558
it doesn't really matter what you call it.
559
The plan is still the same.
560
It's designed to force you into a caloric deficit so severe
561
that your body has no choice but to go into survival mode and to drop weight.
562
At surface level, losing weight to improve your health seems like a good thing, but not when you go about it in this very expensive and restrictive way.
563
Switching gears here, this is a video posted to TikTok, and it says when nobody shows up to your event that you were so excited about.
564
Can you see where this is going?
565
Let me introduce you to all my friends.
566
Check it out.
567
Oh no!
568
What happened?
569
No one!
570
Did you have all these poor things?
571
Freaking stuff.
572
Don't look at any people.
573
When I first saw this video, I felt really bad for her.
574
In the comments, she was saying
575
that she tried to set up like a little backyard hangout
576
and she invited some of her new mom friends to come
577
over after the kids were in bed for the night so
578
that they could like just hang out and chat and nobody came. That sucks.
579
That really does suck.
580
That's seriously so heartbreaking and disappointing when you're like trying to put yourself out there
581
and build community and connect with people who are in a similar phase of life as you and then nobody follows through.
582
Nobody shows up.
583
I imagine that she posted this for sympathy and she almost got me.
584
But remember that this is an MLM Top Fails video and
585
if you look very closely at the few little snapshot clips that she includes at the end of her video,
586
you will notice some strategically placed Arbonne supplements on this tablescape for her mom's night that she's hosting.
587
She laid out some of the Arbonne fizz sticks as well as an Arbonne product catalog.
588
Her caption even mentions protein balls.
589
So I think that she likely made these with the Arbonne protein powder to serve as a snack as well.
590
And she literally only flashed these things on the screen at the end of her video for a 1.1 second runtime.
591
I timed it.
592
It was so fast.
593
And I feel like the majority of people coming across this video would not have picked up on it,
594
but some people did still clock that this appeared to be an Arbonne pitch with strategic Arbonne product placement.
595
So her attempt at sad fishing really backfired because she got over 200 comments from people saying things like this.
596
Is it a pyramid scheme?
597
Oh, sorry, MLM?
598
If so, that's why.
599
But it was to sell Arbonne?
600
Do you think they assumed this was an MLM product party?
601
We're still doing MLMs in 2026?
602
I hate being invited to things and being sold to.
603
Arbonne isn't cheap either.
604
Knowing MLMs are getting the hate it deserves is healing.
605
Listen, I felt bad for a moment and then I realized you were going to sell them something.
606
There is nothing worse than being invited to something and then it being a sales pitch.
607
Sorry.
608
Somebody else said smart friends.
609
You know how many times I've been invited to a pyramid scheme thinking someone was seeking friendship with me?
610
I feel like a proud mom reading these comments.
611
It's like, yes, anti-MLM girlies unite.
612
Not that I wish angry comments upon this girl's video, but it is really refreshing to see
613
that there is an overwhelming presence of people who are speaking out for what's right
614
and calling out predatory behavior when they see it.
615
Because objectively, inviting women over to your house on the premise
616
that this is like a girl's night or a mom's hangout with the secret intention of trapping them into an Arbonne pitch, like it's just a shitty and self-serving thing to do.
617
And when you consider that, it's probably a good thing that nobody showed up.
618
I'd love to see that, actually.
619
Not because I wish ill upon this Arbonne rep specifically, but because it means that nobody got suckered into joining as a result of showing up.
620
She got her time wasted instead of wasting other women's time, and that feels satisfying to see.
621
I've received hundreds if not thousands of submissions for my MLM horror stories series of people detailing experiences exactly like this.
622
I showed up to an event thinking it was one thing
623
and then I turned out that I was just being sold to
624
and it was embarrassing and it was a waste of my time.
625
Or I thought somebody was trying to be my friend
626
but it turns out they just saw me as a dollar sign and that really sucks.
627
It doesn't feel good to be treated that way.
628
It's rude.
629
It's inconsiderate.
630
It's selfish.
631
So in that regard it does make me happy to see that she's getting clocked in the comments.
632
The anti-MLMers went, I know an Arbonne fizz stick when I see one.
633
This is an MLM pitch, isn't it?
634
And it totally was.
635
And I hope
636
that she learned her lesson about trying to take advantage of women by trapping them into something that is not genuine.
637
Maybe she has now seen
638
that it's not appropriate to be taking advantage of people's desire for connection and turning it into a sales pitch.
639
So far in this video, we've seen a Monat rep using the Lindsay Clancy trial to promote her business.
640
We've seen an Optivia rep using a parasitic outbreak to promote her fuelings.
641
And here we have an Herbalife shop using 9-11 to promote their new Twin Towers drinks.
642
And no, I'm not kidding.
643
This is 100% real.
644
This post was actually from last year, and this Herbalife shop posted this on their public business page.
645
It says, in honor of 9-11 tomorrow, we remember the lives lost, the heroes, and the strength of our nation.
646
Our Twin Tower tea duo will be available tomorrow, standing tall in tribute.
647
And then there's two different drinks pictured, both of them in the red and blue color scheme, and they have labeled the names of these drinks Tower A and Tower B.
648
I don't feel like it needs that much explanation about how distasteful this promotion is.
649
Making two different red and blue drinks and calling them the Twin Towers
650
and selling them for profit is just about as tone deaf as it gets.
651
Taking one of the biggest tragedies of our lifetime and turning it into a sales opportunity is beyond disgusting.
652
If you want to do a red, white, and blue America themed drink, then you've got 4th of July, you've got Memorial Day, you've got Labor Day.
653
Like, why do we have to make two drinks named after the Twin Towers
654
and try to commercialize an event where nearly 3,000 people died in a mass casualty?
655
This is not honoring and remembering.
656
This is not commemorating.
657
This is commercializing something that is still extremely fresh and painful.
658
And their customer base naturally had a big issue with this, which then prompted them to release this statement.
659
It says, our apology.
660
We want to sincerely apologize for a post that went up about 9-11.
661
It was extremely insensitive and in no way reflects the values of our store name.
662
To be transparent, the post was created by a member of our social media team who was not born during 9-11
663
and did not fully understand the depth of loss, tragedy, and the emotions tied to that day.
664
While that explains how the mistake happened, it does not excuse it and we take full responsibility.
665
At our shop, we honor and respect all of those who lost their lives, the families forever changed, and the heroes who stepped forward.
666
Our community deserves better than what was shared and we are committed to making sure this never happens again.
667
Please accept our heartfelt apology.
668
Something about this phrase, a member of our social media team was not born during 9-11.
669
Feels so comically unprofessional to me.
670
Fully throwing this 20-something under the bus by saying, oh, they just weren't alive back then.
671
They didn't understand the significance of this event.
672
That's not a good excuse.
673
Because tell me, were you still gonna be selling the teas in the shop?
674
I don't care who posted the advertisement on social media was management aware
675
that these teas were going to be sold or no?
676
Why are you blaming a young member of your social media team for promoting something that you had every intention of selling?
677
Shifting the blame in that way made them look 10 times worse in my opinion.
678
And I tried to go back
679
and find the original post from last year to read these 56 comments
680
that it shows had on this post because I really wanted to see how their community was responding to the apology.
681
But interestingly, they have deleted the apology as well as the original post off of their profile.
682
I only have these screenshots because they came off of Reddit
683
and there is no trace of these posts on the business Facebook page a year later.
684
Which tells me that their apology probably didn't go over
685
that well either and it made them look even worse so they decided to delete that too.
686
And in case there's any confusion let me give you like a mini dive into Herbalife storefronts okay.
687
People who sign up for Herbalife will sometimes open up a brick
688
and mortar store where they sell things that they call loaded teas
689
or smoothies or coffee drinks and they're actually not allowed to have any kind of Herbalife branding affiliated with the store.
690
They're not even allowed to use the name Herbalife in their store name.
691
They usually call themselves nutrition shops or nutrition clubs and they have some kind of ambiguous name.
692
Let's say they're located by the beach.
693
They might call themselves Beachside Nutrition Club or Westside Tea Shop
694
or Evergreen Nutrition or like something that the average person would have no way of knowing is connected to an MLM whatsoever.
695
There will be no outward indication that these shops are affiliated with Herbalife, but if you watch closely when they're making the drinks,
696
they'll probably be scooping a concoction of all kinds of different powders out of these green
697
and white Herbalife canisters behind the counter, and that's how you know.
698
If you want to know if your local smoothie shop or tea shop is an Herbalife front, you can probably go to like their social media pages or their Google reviews
699
and just look to see if you can see any of these green
700
and white canisters in the background of anything that is posted from that shop.
701
That's a dead giveaway that it's an Herbalife front.
702
Sometimes they put the canisters on display and other times they are really good about hiding them.
703
They usually serve their drinks in these very large clear cups.
704
They'll usually have a round sticker on the front with their shop name and their logo.
705
And they typically come in like these outrageous radioactive colors.
706
And from what I've heard, these drinks are so highly caffeinated that if you think you're just getting a tea or a smoothie, you're gonna be really unpleasantly surprised when the caffeine hits your bloodstream.
707
I have had many people write in horror stories to me saying
708
that they went to buy a smoothie or a tea from their local shop
709
and the drinks made them feel awful afterwards because they were not aware of what was being put into them.
710
And the main reason, I believe, personal opinion, that Herbalife reps will open up storefronts is to be able to dupe the community into buying from them.
711
We know at this point that sliding into people's DMs on social media, asking them if they want to buy some kind of overpriced supplement, it's not that effective.
712
So what if we open up a storefront in our local strip mall
713
and we market ourselves as the friendly neighborhood tea and smoothie shop, people can come in and order from us and we can sell them Herbalife without them knowing.
714
That's how it feels to me.
715
It's very, very deceptive.
716
And what if I told you that not one, but two different Herbalife shops in two completely different states had 9-11 drink promos last year.
717
I just showed you an example from an Herbalife shop in Iowa, but here's another one from a shop in Indiana.
718
It says honoring 9-11 with something meaningful.
719
Come on, get out of here with that.
720
Something meaningful, your Herbalife teas are me, whatever.
721
Introducing our Twin Towers Tea Duo, two bold patriotic blends crafted in remembrance and unity.
722
Tower A and Tower B, two flavors, one tribute, a sip of strength, resilience, and remembrance.
723
Raise a glass with us as we honor the heroes and remember the lives lost.
724
Putting these two graphics side by side, you can see that each of these shops Tower A drink combos is the exact same.
725
They have pomegranate, cherry coconut, and blue raspberry.
726
And their Tower B combo is almost exactly the same.
727
They both have watermelon and blue blast, but one has pomegranate, the other has lime.
728
It feels completely obvious to me that one of these shops copied the other, which is hilarious because they're in completely different states.
729
And I'm sure they probably assumed that nobody would put that together.
730
They named them exactly the same.
731
The graphics are strikingly similar, the color combinations, the flavors they included.
732
And it's quite concerning to me that one of these shops had to come up with this insane idea.
733
And then the other shop had to see it and go, oh, nice.
734
What a great idea.
735
We're going to do that too.
736
And this didn't go over well with the second shop either.
737
They also had to release a statement apologizing.
738
They said, I want to sincerely apologize to anyone I may have hurt with my post yesterday about in remembrance of 9-11.
739
In reflecting on it, I realized that I should have chosen a different name for the drinks.
740
My heart goes out to those who were offended
741
and I truly hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.
742
I deeply support everyone and honor the lives that were lost during that tragic time.
743
Thank you for your understanding.
744
And if we're going with this copying theory, which I don't think is a theory at all, I think it's the truth.
745
It sounds like this person is taking accountability by saying, I apologize.
746
I realize I should have named the drinks differently.
747
But the other shop was saying, sorry, our young social media person just didn't know the significance of 9-11 and that's how this happened.
748
Because saying that was probably less embarrassing than to admit that they just ripped off another shop's idea.
749
But it backfired on both of them as it should have.
750
MLM reps have no boundaries and no morals when it comes to how they choose to market their products.
751
And with that, that is all the top fails I have for you for today's MLM top fails video.
752
I'm so appreciative to everybody who sent these to my Google Drive and made me aware of them.
753
I think this video is very interesting because it dealt with several different relevant topics of the time right now.
754
We're coming up on 9-11's anniversary soon.
755
The Lindsay Clancy trial that's going on currently at the time of filming this video.
756
The parasite outbreak.
757
This edition of MLM Top Fails is kind of interesting in
758
that way because we're exposing the way that MLM reps will capitalize on tragic current events for their own financial gain.
759
Like, how can I make this about me?
760
How can I weasel my way into this terrible thing happening to get people to buy what I'm selling?
761
Like, it's truly so bizarre.
762
And I think that really speaks to the brainwashed nature of people in MLMs where they just think differently.
763
They can never turn their brains off of this compulsion to sell
764
and it must be really exhausting for them honestly
765
And I said at the beginning of the video
766
But i'll say it again here that
767
if you come across something on social media
768
that you think would be a good fit for the mlm top Fails series go ahead
769
and send it my way as things are sent to me I kind of filter through them
770
and start to make a list of like different things
771
that I want to include in a video And once I have enough material, then I go ahead and film it So if you like this series, thank you so much in advance for sending me a whole bunch of different material to work with I'm,
772
so deeply appreciative for you and that's it for today's video Thank you so much for watching.
773
I really appreciate you and I'll see you in my next one real soon.
