hello and welcome back to my slow english podcast
2
today i'm going to talk about my trip to new york the whole entire story
3
From the moment I arrived at the airport,
4
to my home in Nebraska,
5
to New York, and back in Mexico City.
6
First, in the morning, my family and I woke up at around 4 a.m.
7
Super early because my dad had to drive us to the airport and then go to his work.
8
So my mom, my sister,
9
my brother and I woke up,
10
got our bags and head to the airport in Mexico City.
11
Once we arrived at the airport,
12
we had to find our airline.
13
Our airline was United or Aido Mexico.
14
So we found our airline,
15
we checked in, we checked a bag,
16
and we went through security check.
17
The security check this time was so chill.
18
The security guards were super friendly and not intense or angry at all.
19
So it was a good start to a good trip.
20
Then, once we were past security,
21
we had to walk through the duty-free section.
22
The section where everything is duty-free.
23
And we were so hungry,
24
we hadn't eaten anything since the night before.
25
So, we all made a unanimous decision to get breakfast at Carl's Jr.
26
And it was so yummy.
27
I had the deluxe meal that has pancakes,
28
bacon, tater tots, and a piece of toast.
29
My brother and my sister got the breakfast burrito.
30
And my mom got the breakfast burger.
31
We had plenty of time to find our gate.
32
So, we were in no rush.
33
We were in no hurry.
34
We took our first flight in Dallas.
35
That was our first layover.
36
And then our second flight to Omaha, Nebraska.
37
And that's where my aunt picked us up in her car and drove us to her home.
38
I saw the big roads right away.
39
The roads in the United States always surprise me.
40
They're so big.
41
They're unnecessarily big.
42
With almost no cars.
43
Just roads.
44
I can't imagine walking somewhere in the United States.
45
Right away, my aunt took us all to eat ice cream.
46
We got the biggest ice cream cones I've ever seen.
47
You can't even imagine.
48
Unnecessarily big.
49
but they were very friendly at the ice cream shop,
50
and it was a very delicious ice cream.
51
We relaxed at my aunt's house for a few days,
52
and we ate some delicious fresh vegetables from my aunt's garden,
53
and after a few days,
54
we went to my cousin's graduation.
55
He is 19, graduating from high school.
56
My aunt, my cousin's mom made a huge celebration.
57
She went all out on this graduation party.
58
She had an ice cream machine,
59
unlimited ice cream she had a candy table she had hot dogs hamburgers nachos
60
and lots of fun games like Jenga
61
or tic-tac-toe the graduation party was really fun and for the next few days,
62
we hung out at my aunt's house.
63
My aunt's house is in the same city where me and my family
64
used to live we all used to live in Sioux City
65
and it brought back so many nostalgic feelings so many warm memories.
66
I walked around the streets in Sioux City with my sister,
67
and we saw all of the old houses that we used to see every day on our way to our cousin's house,
68
or just going for walks every day when we were little.
69
There's nothing like that nostalgic feeling of being in your childhood home or childhood city.
70
What place brings back nostalgic feelings for you?
71
What things bring back nostalgic feelings?
72
For me, it's all of the green trees and the big houses and even the big roads.
73
what brings those feelings for you?
74
We saw a house with cute little mushrooms and a tree
75
that had a hole cut through the middle for the cable lines going through the tree.
76
It was funny to see,
77
instead of chopping down the whole tree,
78
they just cut around so the cable could go through it.
79
And one day before heading to my grandma and grandpa's farm,
80
we decided to go to the gym with my cousin.
81
It was so nice because we got a hydro massage after.
82
A very relaxing massage.
83
The next day, my aunt drove us to my grandma and grandpa's farm.
84
I got to see all of the huge landscapes of fields and fields of grass,
85
fields and fields of corn,
86
and fields and fields of just lots of vegetation, the huge windmills.
87
And arriving at my grandma
88
and grandpa's farmhouse brought back so many warm
89
and nostalgic feelings the piano that I used to play
90
when I was little even though I didn't know how to
91
play the piano the screen door to keep bugs out of the house the living room the photos the farm
92
so many wonderful memories i feel so lucky to have had such a beautiful childhood
93
Can you think of one heartwarming story from your childhood?
94
One person, thing, place, or story that you feel grateful for having as a kid?
95
I went outside with my grandpa to see his vegetables like his rhubarb,
96
his tomatoes, his potatoes, and more.
97
He's very proud of his garden.
98
And I felt very proud of his garden too.
99
We hung out in the living room for a little while and played with our cousins and grandparents.
100
And it was a wonderful day full of remembering happy days from the past.
101
The next day we had to go to get my driver's license so we drove my grandma and grandpa's
102
car all the way to the dmv the place where you renew
103
or get your driver's license it was really funny
104
because the car was all torn apart everywhere for some weird reason there's
105
I don't even know how it could have gotten torn up on the ceiling.
106
It's an old car, definitely.
107
But it was a funny memory.
108
We arrived back at the farmhouse,
109
and my brother mowed the lawn.
110
I relaxed under the trees.
111
I like looking at the view from underneath the trees.
112
And I chatted with my grandma and grandpa.
113
It's always so nice to see the hogs,
114
the chickens, and the cows at my grandma and grandpa's farm.
115
The next day, we had to head back to Nebraska and take our flight to New York City.
116
The view from our first flight was so beautiful.
117
A huge river winding around the city.
118
But the view of New York City when we were flying in was even more impressive to see.
119
Buildings and lights everywhere.
120
Even the taxi drive to our hostel was so impressive to see all of the lights,
121
the buildings, the cars, the people.
122
and our taxi driver drove us through Times Square,
123
which was really nice of him to do.
124
and that was crazy to see.
125
It felt like I was in a movie
126
because I feel like every movie is filmed or based in New York.
127
We arrived pretty late in New York City,
128
So the first thing we did was head to bed.
129
I passed out.
130
We were all so sleepy.
131
But the next day, We all woke up early to walk around the city.
132
We saw gift shops, construction sites,
133
the Rockefeller Center, buildings and more buildings.
134
It was sprinkling on our first day,
135
just a little bit of rain.
136
And for me, that was perfect.
137
That way, we could walk all around the city without feeling hot.
138
We ordered at a food stand in the streets.
139
I ordered a chicken kebab because I love kebabs.
140
And it was pretty decent.
141
But it was $20 dollars.
142
Now, I don't know if I was scammed because I looked like a tourist,
143
but to me, that was crazy expensive.
144
I still sat down at Central Park and enjoyed my kebab, My $20 kebab.
145
We saw some street performers,
146
but they didn't really do anything that impressive.
147
It was pretty average.
148
I think they are just good at scamming people.
149
getting you to pay attention to the show so that behind you they can take your wallets and your phones. So be careful.
150
Be aware in big cities.
151
Is there a big city in your home country
152
where you need to be aware of your surroundings and careful with your things.
153
Later that evening, we ate some chicken strips and french fries at Cane's.
154
It's the first time that I've ever been to Cane's.
155
It was pretty good.
156
Then, for desserts, we had to get a crumble cookie.
157
I've been obsessed with trying crumble cookies since the first time I saw a video of somebody eating one.
158
I've been dreaming of this moment for so long because in Mexico there's no crumble cookie.
159
We tried a snickerdoodle cookie and it was everything I expected and more.
160
I definitely love cookies, specifically doughy cookies,
161
so maybe I'm being biased because of that.
162
but in my opinion they're the best.
163
Have you ever tried a crumble cookie?
164
If not, would you like to?
165
The next day we woke up,
166
got some smoothies and some ginger shots,
167
and we took the subway to see the Statue of Liberty
168
and like I said before it felt like I was in
169
a movie eating a salted pretzel in New York was a dream
170
and then for dinner we had the best pizza ever at a place called Joe's Pizza later
171
that evening we walked to Times Square and we were able to see everything completely by ourselves
172
The next morning we got breakfast and I ate an avocado toast and we went to see the Harry Potter shop.
173
Now, I'm not the biggest fan of Harry Potter,
174
but my brother and my mom are.
175
So, of course, I had to go and send them some pictures and buy them some souvenirs.
176
I got my brother a Harry Potter wand and I got my mom a Gryffindor mug.
177
We walked to see the Empire State and we got some Chinese food to eat and chill at a really pretty spot.
178
And that was our last day in New York City.
179
The next morning, we took the train to the JFK airport.
180
We ate our leftover Chipotle while waiting for our plane to board.
181
I always prefer to be early to my flights,
182
so I'm always just chilling,
183
eating a snack, and waiting for my flight to board.
184
We put on our hats,
185
and we boarded the plane.
186
The takeoff was just as beautiful as the landing.
187
Taking off from New York City in the daylight was so beautiful.
188
It's probably one of my favorite cities to see from the sky.
189
Then we arrived back in Mexico City,
190
a beautiful sight to land.
191
with beautiful lights and buildings and my family of course.
192
I got to see my mom and dad's new dogs Pablo and Huerta.
193
They're so cute and it was really nice to be home.

  1. Listen First: Play the podcast once without attempting to repeat. Focus purely on comprehension.
  2. Use a Shadowing App: Load the podcast onto a shadowing app or site to help you follow along easily.
  3. Repeat Sections: Break the transcript into smaller sections. Listen to a sentence, pause, and then repeat it out loud.
  4. Imitate Tone and Emotion: Notice the speaker's tone, pace, and expressions. Try to mirror these in your own speech for a more natural flow.
  5. Record Yourself: After practicing a few times, record your voice. This will help you identify areas for improvement in pronunciation and fluency.

With consistent practice, especially when using the shadowing technique, you’ll gain confidence in speaking English fluently. Consider revisiting this podcast episode or similar ones on YouTube to further enhance your skills. Happy practicing!
