We begin with U.S.

President Donald Trump signing an executive order in the White House renaming Lake Ontario Lake America, at least for agencies in the U.S.

Trump had threatened the move earlier this week as trade talks between Canada and the U.S broke down.

CTV's Abigail Beeman now with the latest escalation in this ongoing trade war.

We're going to call it Lake America, and all it takes is a good pen and some intelligence.

First, a social media marker and paper map.

We're going to be changing the name of Lake Ontario, effective immediately to Lake America.

Then, an executive order.

We filed all the necessary papers, documents, everything else we've notified all of the various people that we have to notify.

The president took the opportunity to bash Canada.

The Canadian officials have treated us very badly.

They're nasty people.

Over and over.

Canada's been ripping us off for a long time on trade, very sadly.

Even the military, you know, we defend Canada for nothing.

We don't get anything.

They don't pay us to defend Canada, but we defend Canada.

And over again.

Who's the worst to deal with on trade?

And I said, that's easy.

Canada.

They are the worst and they feel entitled.

And reminded everyone of his promise to double tariffs January 1st. We're going to be doing tariffs on their cars

that are coming in at a substantial level because we want to make the cars here.

He thought he had a real hit, a real golden ollie with the Gulf of Mexico.

And he's trying to bring back that.

He's trying to play the hits for his base.

But I think everybody here thinks it's a little sad and it's not his best work.

Do you think a fish in the Great Lakes or in the Detroit-Saint-Clair River knows whether they're in Canada or America?

While a Democrat in border state Michigan says she's working on a resolution in Congress

and a letter for the president opposing the trade war.

This is just a very senseless war we don't need.

Our hospitals in Detroit would have to shut down if we didn't let Canadian nurses come over the bridge every day.

Late this afternoon, the Prime Minister responded in a post saying Canadians know that things must be called by their name,

and this lake is called Lake Ontario today and forever.

Back at home, Windsor police have launched an investigation for property damage to a local indoor playground.

Police had the Dougal Avenue business taped off today for this investigation.

They will only tell CTV News the investigation is for property damage and that it's in its early stages.

The damage was noticed this morning by staff and they believe it occurred overnight.

Anyone with information is requested to call Windsor Police or make an anonymous tip to Crimestoppers.

To a separate incident now, police releasing this surveillance video.

They want to speak with two suspects after wiring was stolen from five electrical boxes connected to streetlights.

It happened in the area of Ottawa Street and Kildare Road last Thursday.

Police say the crime caused $6,000 in damage.

The Windsor-Essex Children's Aid Society is investigating a cyber attack,

and so far investigators have not determined whether any information was accessed or removed.

In a statement, the agency says it discovered the cyber incident on August 6th

and immediately took steps to contain it and protect its systems.

Cyber security experts have been brought in to review the potentially affected systems and data.

The agency says it will notify affected individuals if personal information is found to have been compromised.

Law enforcement, the province and Ontario's privacy commissioner have all been notified.

Provincial police say two people suffered minor injuries yesterday

when a pickup truck hauling a camper trailer rolled off the 401 near Chatham, Kent.

Submitted video shows the driver losing control around 1230 Wednesday, rolling the truck and trailer right off the highway.

It happened in the eastbound lanes just east of Kent Bridge Road.

According to police, both the driver and passenger were taken to hospital from the scene and are expected to make full recoveries.

Back on Trade Now, we're seeing a new surge in the so-called Buy Canadian movement thanks to President Trump's trade attacks reshaping retail shelves

and trade tactics.

Saskatchewan with the latest example.

The province, along with Alberta, is still selling American alcohol but now hitting U.S booze with a new tax.

CTV's Alison Bamford with more on this patriotic push.

Whether it's a bottle of Saskatchewan vodka or a pack of craft beer.

Trade tensions have pushed local products up in popularity.

We've definitely seen more people asking questions about where their products come from

and showing a more piqued interest in Saskatchewan-made products and Canadian products overall.

A trend at this Saskatoon liquor store that's likely to continue.

Yesterday, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe announced a 50% reciprocal tax on American alcohol beginning September 8th.

Retaliation for the U.S tariff placed on Canadian liquor earlier this month.

Well, I think consumers are ultimately voting with their wallet at this point.

It's the latest tactic driving consumers to buy Canadian and some businesses are following suit.

One of the country's largest ice cream brands,

Chapman's, pledged to source more than 70 percent of its American ingredients from elsewhere by mid-2027.

Producers are getting on board with adjusting their practices

and making it easier for consumers to make decisions and showcasing that they are operating in a Canadian way.

And Canadians are hoping to help out one another with the patriotic push.

There's a lot of great Canadian companies that Canadians don't even know about

and if they did know about them they'd be excited to be shopping for them rather than other alternatives.

Two months ago, Brydon Parker founded the website madeincanada.dev.

From clothing to food and tech, users can search through the site to find Canadian options.

So in the last couple days, there's been a surge in traffic.

Buy Canadian sentiments existed long before the trade tensions.

During the pandemic, there was a push to support local

and some experts believe these consumer shopping habits will stick around long after the trade war.

Open Streets, Windsor is marking a milestone this year with a new format taking the annual event to the city's east end.

Construction has forced organizers to get creative creating two separate routes operating at the same time.

CTV's Chris Campbell explains.

The one day of the year we close the streets to open the streets.

Is that what I'm understanding?

For the 10th year, Open Streets Windsor will give residents and visitors a different way to experience the city.

But this year's event is getting a new look.

Construction along the traditional route means organizers have created two separate routes with seven community hubs spread throughout Windsor's East End.

We've been rotating the events the last few years, so of course now we're on the east side.

And what makes it kind of unique is that we ran into some construction.

The team got very creative, and now we've got two routes that are going to be operating simultaneously.

On September 20th, roads will be transformed into car-free spaces for walking, cycling, and exploring.

Along the way, organizers promise activities for families, performers, cultural programming, and plenty of food and drink.

Participants can also collect new stamp-style stickers at each of the seven hubs.

But organizers say the event is about more than just a day of entertainment.

The Open Streets presents a different way of looking at your neighborhood.

You know, being kind of the motor city of Canada, we are often in our cars

and we don't take the time to really see our neighborhoods the way you see it

when you're on foot or if you're riding your bicycle.

And while this year's event is focused on the east end, organizers are already looking ahead.

Open Streets is expected to return to the west side next year, creating a potential opportunity to connect with the new multi-use path on the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

if we can have our friends over in the United States help us out

and create a hub for them that would be great too.

The interest in the multi-use path with the Gordiehow International Bridge has been tremendous.

We want to leverage that.

Humidity has relatively been low, and so 26 hasn't felt,

It's been warm in the afternoons, but not inhospitable.

that some dry air is moving in behind this system of low pressure well to the east are the showers

and even thunderstorms pushing towards Atlantic Canada.

More than 200 job seekers packed the downtown mission tonight for a first-ever job fair that organizers say delivered results.

I'm very happy with how it went.

I'm very happy with all of the people that I got to connect with and see, like, the excitement on their faces, in their eyes.

You know, what we do at the Mission on a daily basis is we're providing, you know, the basics like food and shelter.

But it's really nice when we get to provide that or give that hope to people.

I, too, am excited about the results.

Seven employers took part with a line of prospective hires already out the door when the fair opened at 2.

Job seekers could drop off resumes and meet directly with people hiring for the city of Windsor the Canadian Mental Health Association, even the Canadian Armed Forces.

The mission opened the fair to the general public, along with graduates of its enterprise programs, which help people facing barriers to employment build skills and find work.

And for at least one employer, the search ended right here on the spot.

Ron Dunn, a former executive director of the mission, who now heads Victoria Manor, came looking for candidates and left with a new hire.

I wasn't, but I think if you find somebody who is exceptional, right?

I found a person who has recently immigrated to the country

but has some qualifications that we can use over at Victoria Manor.

And so, yeah, she's going to come by on Monday, and we're going to sign some paperwork and get her started.

Meantime, retailers are bracing for a fresh wave of tariffs, but many are trying to stay positive and enjoying newfound customers from outside Canada.

Those duties will increase if Canada's 50% retaliatory tariffs kick in.

Well, the tariff won't go until September, so I'm going to do all my shopping now.

Alice from Arizona says she's traveled the world to places like Japan and Australia, crossing more than a dozen major bridges throughout her lifetime.

I have never seen a bridge that had been built.

So this bridge is special to me.

I came here for the beauty of the Gordie Howe Bridge, and we're not going to get off into nothing that's going to steal my joy today.

Retailers, too, are trying to stay positive.

How long will this last, right?

That's the key.

I mean, both sides are hoping that this kind of, we get a deal sooner rather than later, because it really will be devastating to both economies in terms of inflation and job loss.

Retail analyst Bruce Winders says some businesses will attempt to cushion the additional cost, but it's not realistic.

But when you're looking at, you know, 50%, you can't absorb all that.

Maybe some of the 15% you can, you know, you can play around, but not 50%.

They're going to have to raise some prices.

The owners of Whiskey Jack's Boutique are ready to pivot if they have to, but are currently enjoying an influx of American customers.

It's just nice to be able to connect with people

and to remind ourselves that behind all of this are just a bunch of humans that are scared and frustrated.

Some of them are traditional businesses and some of them are more emerging tech savvy businesses.

But what amazes me the most is this the energy

The summer company program provided by the Small Business

and Entrepreneurship Center saw one student open up a gaming company while another started a window washing business.

During the 12-week program, students learned all about entrepreneurship, how to connect with people, and make cold calls.

Each student received up to $3,000, with many looking forward to continuing down the path of growth.

Now with AI accelerating, the barrier of entry is dramatically lower.

A lot of people can just start creating apps, so I'm definitely going to capitalize on this moment.

It's almost harvest time in the region, but Mother Nature has doled out mixed results this year.

Apple growers say expect a good crop, just not a great one.

A local winery, rather, says this year's weather treated different grapes differently, some good, some bad.

Because we're all pick-your-own, I'm always so excited to see all the families that come back every year.

This will be a fun apple to pick at Wagner's Orchards and Estate Winery, where some varieties did well, while others not so well.

If we look back at what May was, it rained and it was really cold.

Owner Harold Wagner says that delayed the start of the season.

The trees flowered good, but then if it rained and cold and rained, they didn't out-pollinate them.

At Sprucewood Shore as a state winery, weather had a different effect on crops.

A tough winter will affect output on some of the varieties.

Some varietals were going to have lower tonnage.

Sprucewood owner Steve Mitchell says Petit Pearl, Marquette and Baco Noir don't feel the winter as much as Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc grapes do.

Sprucewood has an irrigation system to guard against the lack of rain as well.

I do feel that in general this year for grapes, I was happy with the amount of rain we got.

As vice chair of the Ontario Craft Winery Association, Mitchell feels the quality of this year's harvest will keep tourism flowing in the area.

I think in general the tourism in the area has been solid.

We've seen increasing growth year over year and this past year has been no exception.

A bright full moon is going to scatter a lot of light in our atmosphere, almost to the point of being able to see the colors of your clothes at night.

According to the president of the Windsor Center of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, viewing began around 1030 and will reach its peak around midnight.

and some flaming disasters On the final day of competition in Beijing,

a Chinese-built humanoid set yet another record in the 100-meter race.

The robots then slamming into a padded wall because they haven't quite mastered the art of stopping gracefully.

The time, 8.64 seconds, almost a second faster than human sprinter Usain Bolt.

This spectator marveling at the fact that robots are now faster than people.

This was China's second-ever world humanoid games.

More than 2,000 robots from 16 countries battling it out in events like boxing,

high jumping, breakdancing, and tug-of-war.

There were even robot cheerleaders.

This shows just how far robotics has come and, just as importantly, how quickly the technology is advancing.

Though at times on the track, the sparks flew.

Some of the robots did struggle to stay in their lane.

And videos of them getting tripped up at times went viral, including a weightlifting attempt that ended with this robot's version of a faceplant.

Nothing's perfect at the start, said this spectator.

But while some robots were carted away by stretcher, the feats of others were undeniably impressive, including playing soccer.

While BUILD is a global competition, most of the teams were from China, where more than 80% of the world's humanoid robots are built.

China isn't doing this for fun.

They are telegraphing to the world exactly how powerful they have become in robotics and artificial intelligence.

Compared to last year, the robots are performing much better, a sign of how they're on track to move further into warehouses and factories and eventually into the home.

A leap for robots, though clearly with some more work to do.
