1
Today I'd like to teach you a new lesson to make you sound more like a native speaker of English.
2
Most of my students complain
3
that they don't really feel like they're speaking like a native speaker
4
because they're not using a lot of everyday expressions that native speakers use.
5
I encourage you to keep studying a lot of different expressions and try to use them as much as possible.
6
In this video I will teach you five new expressions
7
and we will use these idiomatic expressions following the new rule that I'm going to teach you in this video.
8
Let's learn the rule about which words we stress when we have an adjective and a noun.
9
For example, if we say new house.
10
New is an adjective and house is a noun.
11
The noun in English gets more stressed than the adjective.
12
So For example, we do this.
13
New house.
14
New house.
15
I bought a new house.
16
Let's look at another one.
17
Big room.
18
Room is a noun.
19
Same thing.
20
We don't say big room, we say big room.
21
That's a really big room.
22
And maybe in your language you stress adjectives more.
23
In fact, that's a pretty common way to do it in many different languages.
24
In English, adjectives are stressed only as an exception.
25
For example, I want the blue sweater, not the green one.
26
But otherwise I'd say, she's wearing a blue sweater.
27
She's wearing a blue sweater.
28
Put the stress at the end.
29
That's very important.
30
Make sure that you say the two words together.
31
That's a new house.
32
That's a big room.
33
Have a nice day.
34
You did a good job.
35
So we don't say you did a good job.
36
We say you did a good job.
37
All right, the second thing I want you to remember is in order to sound more like a native speaker, you need to also practice using everyday expressions.
38
So now let's practice four different idiomatic expressions that follow this pattern.
39
The first one is when people say, once in a blue moon.
40
Once in a blue moon.
41
We don't stress blue, we stress moon.
42
Once in a blue moon.
43
Once in a blue moon means very rarely, almost never, seldom.
44
So we say, oh, I see my friend once in a blue moon.
45
All right.
46
How about if I say, no big deal, no big deal.
47
Big is an adjective and deal is a noun.
48
So we're going to stress the noun, no big deal.
49
It's no big deal.
50
And that That means it's okay, it's not a problem, it's not serious, everything's okay.
51
Let's learn a couple more idioms and then we'll practice them in sentences a little more naturally.
52
How about on the same page?
53
That's a very common expression that people are using a lot these days.
54
They will say, we're on the same page.
55
And that means we're thinking in the same way, we have the same idea.
56
We're on the same page.
57
So we don't say we're on the same page.
58
We say we're on the same page.
59
And one more, if I say you've come a long way, you've come a long way,
60
that means you've made a lot of very good progress compared to where you used to be in the past.
61
You've come a long way with your English.
62
All right, now let's practice using these expressions in sentences.
63
And pay attention, each sentence is going to have two opportunities to use this adjective and noun pattern.
64
I see my old friend once in a blue moon.
65
I see my old friend once in a blue moon.
66
We had a little disagreement, but it's no big deal.
67
We had a little disagreement but it's no big deal.
68
They're on the same page about wanting a small wedding.
69
They're on the same page about wanting a small wedding.
70
You've come a long way in only three months.
71
You've come a long way in only three months.

- 日常的な慣用句:「once in a blue moon」や「no big deal」のような慣用句を使うことで、会話がより豊かになります。これらの表現は、それぞれ「非常にまれに」や「問題ない」という意味です。
- 文のリズム:文を自然に発音するためには、強弱を意識して話す必要があります。「you did a good job」という例では、重要な単語にリズムを置くことで、より流暢に聞こえます。
