How do you read a lot?
2
This is the most common question I get from people, and today I'm gonna break that down for you.
3
First of all, I wanna say that I don't think I read that much.
4
There are people who read way more than me, but I understand why someone would see me and think, oh, this guy reads a lot, because most people read on average from 12 to 17 books, and I manage to read at least 30 books per year.
5
Now, with that said, let's get to the interesting part.
6
The first thing is that I don't read every book the same way.
7
I read multiple books at the same time, but I don't read them with the same intensity.
8
I use a system that I like to call Book Tower in which I have one high effort book that I'm reading to specifically understand something or improve my life, one medium effort book that I'm reading for pure curiosity, and one low effort book that I'm reading for pure entertainment, which is usually a fiction book.
9
Second thing that I do is prioritizing consistency over anything else.
10
There are days when I can read 30 pages or more, and instead of freaking out and not reading because I can't read a lot, I will simply reduce the number of pages to read on any given day.
11
And by doing that, I still manage to read even when I'm particularly busy.
12
And over time, this compounds and I end up reading more books than most people.
13
Third thing that I do is carrying a book with me if I have to go somewhere, like when I'm traveling.
14
There is so much dead time in our daily lives, so many instances where we have nothing to do, like on our commute, that can be exploited for reading instead of scrolling through social media.
15
The more frequently you carry a book, the more chances you have to read.
16
And last thing but not least is I read what I like.
17
It sounds so obvious to say so, but it needs to be mandatory for any reader trying to read more.
18
If you read books you don't really enjoy, it's gonna be a drag trying to read daily.
19
Every time you open a book, you're gonna hate yourself for reading and probably stop doing it altogether.
20
And if you wanna become a better, smarter, and deeper reader, come and master it to become a student of my reading course, Active Reading Mastery 2.0.
