More than a century ago in Paris, the young Vietnamese patriot Nguyen Ngoc, later known as President Ho Chi Minh,

For many intellectuals from colonized nations in the early 20th century, it provided an opportunity to engage with progressive ideas centered on liberty,

equality, fraternity and the right of peoples to self-determination.

He wanted to understand whether the ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity promoted in such circles were genuinely applicable to colonized people seeking independence.

He chose to explore and assess those ideas for himself to determine whether they could offer a suitable path for Vietnam.
