I'm going to give you guys a sneak peek inside this Tokyo housing center to visit a model home by Hebel House, a popular home builder in Japan.

The main entrance doesn't have your traditional door.

It actually has a sliding door.

This home is a two-story traditional style Japanese house designed for a family living with a grandma.

The first thing you notice when you enter is this tea room with a Japanese alcove, Tokonoma.

So this is the tea room.

The reason they have it right next to the entrance is

because they designed it for the grandma so

that she can have a tea party with her friends when they come over to chat.

Isn't it cool that it has a built-in teapot heater?

Grandma's living the life!

And this is kind of a cool touch.

It actually hides the air conditioning behind here and you have these like bamboo vents.

And this is a living dining room.

Washi wallpaper gives it a warm crafty look.

It's called an Engawa.

Japanese usually build a spot where there's a lot of sunlight so that people can just hang out all day

This is the kitchen space What's different about them is that they have these little fish grills

You pour water in here to prevent smoke and the fish oil from catching on fire

Ingenious and IH stoves are becoming more popular in Japan and check out this extra storage

My girlfriend's mom uses this space for Japanese pickles

This is the pantry area as well as where they keep all the small appliances.

So you have your microwave, your oven, and your rice cooker.

So in Japan, they don't really have large ovens.

But what they do have are these microwave ovens which allows you to microwave.

But also if you have little dishes, you can use this as an oven.

Thing is, it won't fit a turkey inside.

And what's really nice is this terrace where you can just watch the cherry blossoms with your family

Or just have a lazy afternoon with a glass of sake

Now this is one of my favorite appliances in all Japanese homes It's a washing machine

and dryer built into one All you have to do is put your clothes in here

and after three to four hours everything is clean and dry Why? So awesome!

This is one of your traditional style bathtubs in Japan.

It's made out of Hinoki Hinoki gives off this really cool

wooden scent It's almost like you're at a luxury onsen spa

But one of the best features about these tubs Is the electronics

that are built into it Since Japanese take baths every day This automatically fills the bath

And maintains the water at your preferred temperature and level Also, this micro-mist sauna option has become quite popular recently

This is the AC control for the bath And you can even sit down

This is the changing room The ryokan style ratan flooring is so dope Perfect for wet areas

Oh wow this is cool And check out this tile, it's super old school You only see it in all grandma's

houses This wouldn't be a Japanese toilet without the bidet And this is the washitsu or a.k.a grandma's room

So this is grandma's room.

What's pretty cool is that it's all tatami floor.

This kotatsu in grandma's room is a Horigotatsu.

If you look below, there's actually a hole here where you can set your feet

So it's not just one flat tatami mat which makes sitting

so much more comfortable And also it has one of these heating remotes.

Usually in a regular kotatsu the heaters are underneath the table But here you actually have the heaters on the floor.

It just makes the winter days so warm.

And check that out right behind me to my right.

Look how low the window is The reason it's low is because when you're sitting down here, you can enjoy the scenery outside from sitting here Let me

to the Engawa just right behind me What's really nice too is

that the storage is higher so that grandma doesn't hurt back

when she's trying to get stuff She can just put her foot on

and her blankets all right here

And of course it comes with this household Shinto altar and a traditional family Buddhist altar This is a model home.

They have all of these switches here, but these switches are actually the floor heaters So all the wooden floors you see here are heated.

It's a hallway, and it's so warm, and I love it Let's check out the second floor

This is the second living room which leads to a shared balcony connected to the kids rooms.

And look how big this balcony is.

So this is the master bedroom.

It's got a working space and a walk-in closet.
