The last thing we did with the old lineup was in 1986 with Udo

and the old guitarist

and we felt like we needed a break we wanted to do something else

because we've done everything with Udo that we wanted to do

and we came so far

and we thought you know after all this time it's time for a change

so we finally started looking for a singer

and it took us quite some time to finally find this young man David Reese

we listened to tons of tapes and all

and finally we auditioned many many many singers and David Reed's the one we finally picked.

I don't want you to get offended by this but how could his voice stick out among 200?

Well it wasn't the voice let's be a little what was it that stuck out?

Come on tell me that.

We're not talking about that.

No anyways what we were looking for is somebody who can sing the old stuff fairly aggressive style

that we had before you know with Udo very extreme

and also who can do some something like ballads and you know more melodic stuff, which is on the new album.

Do you feel like you're stepping into big shoes?

Not at all.

Do you feel like you're just bringing yourself to accept?

Definitely.

I've never had a...

People ask me that all the time.

Like, you know, how is it feeling with those shoes?

And I don't...

For one thing, you know, this is a tall band.

We're all like six feet one, you know, and he's like four feet tall.

And it's like, for me to fit my feet, it wouldn't work anyways.

And we're character singers both of us and I respect what he does

and he respects what I do

and part of the reason they got me in the band was

because they had that somebody could do what was done before live

and have character because it was yeah

but then you know yeah that's the first thing we told

you don't try to copy you yeah exactly there's no other Udo you know

You know, there's a lot more guitar stuff on this record than ever before, and we actually concentrated a lot on bringing out the guitars on this album more than ever before.

And this is what Dave just said, you know, different styles and different guitar sounds and all that.

It's more of a guitar-based album than ever before.

I think he's come out more of a guitar player than he ever was before.

I mean he had time to like get a he's always had his own identity

But what the press was saying is

that people were definitely feeling wolf coming out of himself as

the guitarist You know playing with with my opinion is

that with the style with Udo

and part of the reason he said You know you couldn't really do a ballad

and stuff like that was because wolf was somewhat limited to playing to that

Catering to that and then this album is starting to show what he can really do Generation
