쉐도잉 연습: Solo Overnight Building a Budget Survival Kit From Menards - 영상으로 영어 말하기 배우기

레슨 만드는 중...
1
All right, so time again, time for the Soul Overnighter in the Woods.
2
And I'm thinking we do a Menards Overnighter.
3
So let's get to it.
4
All right, here we go.
5
Back in the woods now those that watch my channel you know from previous videos
6
that i've done several overnighters at lowe's harbor freight dollar general i believe family dollar thrift stores goodwills things like
7
that salvation army
8
but what i have not done in the past i don't believe i've done it is a full-on menards overnighter
9
now before we get too far down the trail we have 100 corporals corner stainless steel
10
mess kits dropping to the website as we speak corporalscorner.com and
11
that link is located in my video description box jump on them
12
while you can the fastest these things sold out is 23 minutes up to three hours
13
so if you're waiting till monday or tuesday
14
or wednesday they're going to be sold out grab them
15
while you can if you get there and you miss out smash
16
that notify what available button get on my email list
17
and download the free phone apps that we've guaranteed not to miss corporalscorner.com
18
and once again that link is located in my video description box
19
most of these videos they stick with a hundred dollar budget
20
which is realistic to a point then again it's not because
21
if you currently look at your overnight bag your bug out
22
bag your camping kit etc etc you know for a fact
23
that you have more than a hundred dollars worth of gear right there
24
some backpacks are 25 to 50 bucks right there boom so half your 100 budget is right there
25
so what i wanted to do with this video here is make it more realistic i offered myself 200 bucks
26
or less and what i noticed
27
that menards was they actually are trying to up their game they took it up a notch
28
and they have several camping aisles now
29
that cater to outdoor activities not just camping they have a
30
lot of other things going on out there fire pits etc
31
so i combed through all of it
32
and i found one main aisle dedicated to strictly camping so i gave myself that $200 budget and came way under.
33
I was actually impressed.
34
All right, let's go ahead and kick this off with a backpack.
35
And why start with a backpack? because the backpack is going to carry all the items that we purchase.
36
Now, when purchasing any type of backpack, there's several things or several factors to consider.
37
The most important is it has to carry all the items that you have, right?
38
Next would be comfort.
39
You're going to be wearing this thing.
40
And it doesn't mean wear it from your vehicle 100 yards over and you're camping for the night.
41
It means if you had to carry this 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 miles, is it comfortable enough to do that?
42
Most of these backpacks that are around the $20 to $30 range are generally the same.
43
You might find some that are a little bit larger, but they're built almost the exact same way.
44
They have this mesh on the back right here.
45
They have padded shoulder straps here with the same type of mesh on it to make it breathable.
46
You have a few compartments.
47
And if you're lucky, it has a wide base like this one right here.
48
So the more items that you stick in there, it will actually go outwards.
49
We have one large dump pouch right here.
50
Inside, there's a small pocket.
51
On the outside, you have a smaller pouch.
52
Roughly about two-thirds the size of this one.
53
And then you have a real small one on the top here.
54
That's the size of my hand.
55
So if I were to guess, I would say this takes probably about 25 liters altogether.
56
Maybe 30 on a good day, but roughly 25.
57
We're going to work through this in no particular order and start off with containers.
58
Now, there were no single wall stainless steel wide mouth bottles at Menards.
59
They were all double walled.
60
An easy fix.
61
You drill a small hole in the double wall so it won't crack.
62
There's a theory or a rumor that they will explode.
63
I've never seen that happen.
64
I have seen them crack.
65
So if they crack, no big deal.
66
The outside wall cracked.
67
The inner wall should be fine.
68
But to save yourself the heartache, popping a small hole in it relieves that pressure and you should be fine.
69
But plastic ones, five to seven bucks.
70
Like this one right here will hold a quart.
71
Sturdy, secure lid.
72
All you got to do is boil your water, which leads you down the road of a secondary container, which is what we have right here.
73
now we have this stainless steel i want to say it was a good 24 ounce
74
but there's no markings on the inside of this
75
when i filled it up earlier 16 brought me to
76
that rim right there so if you look at
77
that volume wise that's at least 20 ounces probably 24 so you're under a quart however
78
you know filling this up one and a half times should fill this bottle up
79
and then it can cool down
80
but looking at it it's very sturdy construction it's from a
81
company called standsport you have a flip handle right here
82
that holds that lid in place you got four holes drilled in it right there so you can drink from it
83
and the best part is inside of this they had two extra stainless steel cups
84
so you could technically boil water in all three of these containers
85
and maybe all three of those would fill this up real
86
quick before we move on there's a lot of commentary online about this type of bottle of that bottle, filter this, disinfect that, purify over here.
87
And I have several videos talking about the difference between filtration, which is purification, and disinfecting water.
88
They're two separate things.
89
If you're going to purify water, you need some type of filtration system to remove everything from that.
90
And it makes the water look and taste like bottled water.
91
We don't have that option here.
92
So we're forced to disinfect or kill everything in that water.
93
It's still going to look like crap taste like crap smell like crap, but it's disinfected and considered safe and
94
When you only have a plastic bottle to work with you're forced down
95
that road Like I already mentioned of some type of stainless steel bottle to disinfect
96
that water and then transfer that water
97
Either while it's still warm or after it's cooled down
98
Into a plastic bottle Once you do that you can carry this container with you and you have water on the move.
99
Now, like we talked about several times in several different videos over the years,
100
the bulk, meaning the size, the bulk of every single kit is going to be your shelter or sleep system.
101
Will that be a hammock and a tarp?
102
Some type of packable or portable tent?
103
A simple wool blanket or fleece-lined blanket or sleeping bag liner, poncho-poncho liner, and so on and so forth.
104
That's going to be the bulk of your kit.
105
Not necessarily in weight, but it's going to take up the most room.
106
What I've seen over the years, I've seen individuals dedicate several videos to actually proving my point, and they agree.
107
and I've seen individuals want to argue that.
108
If you tend to want to argue it, go back and look at your kit and pull out everything to do with a sleep system,
109
meaning tarp, ground cloth, sleeping bag, hammock, the tarp for the hammock,
110
under quilt, over quilt, and most likely you're going to see what I'm talking about.
111
The bulk of every kit is your sleep system.
112
Now what I've done here is We're late summer, approaching early fall.
113
It's still warm where I live.
114
It's not as hot.
115
The humidity is actually dropping.
116
Nights can be cool down to maybe, you know, high 40s to high 50s, 60 if you're lucky.
117
That's in Fahrenheit.
118
And you may or may not, depending on what you're using,
119
you may or may not need some type of blanket just for that morning chill. To each their own.
120
What I found here was a 6x8 5mm tarp.
121
We have grommets in here.
122
This could be used as a ground cloth.
123
It could be used to store firewood.
124
It could be placed over top of a tent.
125
It could be used for several different configurations, lean-to, plow point, or even an A-frame. And it's camouflaged.
126
There's still green foliage out here, so those that enjoy stealth camping, you could probably use it for that.
127
To add to our tarp, I found a beach tent at Menards in that camping aisle.
128
And I've seen this a long time ago
129
and I was hesitant to buy it for the reason that it says on there, the bottom is waterproof.
130
But what about the top and the sides?
131
I don't know.
132
There's nothing on here to indicate that it is or is not.
133
but being that there's still mosquitoes out here it's that time of the year where i could have a
134
campfire at night
135
or not um it could rain maybe it will maybe it
136
won't why not check it out it was relatively cheap it's
137
packable it's lightweight you throw it down use your shock cord poles
138
and it pops right open it's one and done so we'll go ahead and put this up later and check it out.
139
We just talked about the weather.
140
There is a fleece.
141
It looks to me like a sleeping bag liner.
142
It's not advertised as that.
143
It's advertised as an actual fleece sleeping bag, but it's lightweight as well.
144
It fits in the bottom of that backpack.
145
So this time of the year, why not?
146
In any kit that you're carrying, whether it be short-term or long-term survival kit or bug-out bag, you need some type of cordage.
147
This is 550 cord, approximately 50 foot.
148
You know, it's standard.
149
It's in Walmarts, Lowe's, Home Depots, and Menards.
150
Why not have something in case you need it, being the fact that we're carrying a tarp?
151
Let's say the tent is not waterproof.
152
I want to a frame that tarp or fly that tarp over
153
that tent to shed the water or give myself extra shade
154
or a bigger footprint that I could get underneath and do some small tasks or eat my chow, relax next to the fire, trap the heat back onto the shelter,
155
etc, etc. I'll need some type of cordage to span the distance between two trees in order to do that.
156
In any type of go bag, bug out bag, camping bag, emergency bag, day bag, etc. etc. In my humble opinion,
157
you need some guaranteed way to start a fire.
158
And that guaranteed way means exactly what it says.
159
It's guaranteed, meaning inclement weather, rain, wind, snow, damp wood, and so on and so forth.
160
This pull start fire will do exactly that.
161
think of taking a road flare
162
which is basically what this is shove it into a wood pile
163
and lighten it and then walking away it's going to continuously burn until it dries
164
that wood out and ignites we're talking about starting a fire instant gratification first time every time
165
big lighter these come in packs of twos and fours over at menards i believe there was a pack of six
166
So i'm gonna just toss one in my bag from my
167
house There's no need for me to buy a pack of two four
168
or six when I have probably 12 of them sitting right there But if you were a couple dollars, why not again instant gratification?
169
It's a one and done Let's go ahead
170
and talk about headlamps now I'm a fan of headlamps
171
because i'm hands-free I can put it on my head on
172
my hat walk around I can actually tie this to a tree
173
and get whatever task done at night I need to or navigate if I had to.
174
Now, the benefit of this one right here, it's called Lights All, and it was $9.99 at Menards.
175
There were cheaper options.
176
However, for $10, it was two for the price of one.
177
We have a standard headlamp right here with four settings on it.
178
and the second headlamp right here gives me the option to
179
place it into a tent tie it to a tree
180
so I can find my camp or light up the inside of my camp
181
while I still have my other one I can conserve for later use
182
most compasses you find in stores like Menards and Walmart, in my opinion, they're not worth a damn.
183
And not saying that they're not going to work, they'll work maybe to a point or they're not 100% accurate.
184
And when it comes to land navigation, being a former military in the Marine Corps infantry in the 90s, that's how we lived and died,
185
was going out there analog, doing the math, and shooting the azimuths, reverse azimuths, to get to where we need to be.
186
Now the main purpose of a compass is to walk a straight line.
187
Some want to debate that, but down and dirty, you want to walk a straight line.
188
That way there's no lateral drift or the wandering around the woods.
189
This one right here will actually do that.
190
It's a liquid-filled compass or a base plate compass.
191
So it's liquid-filled dial on a base plate.
192
You have a large magnifying glass right here as well that can be used to start fires.
193
However, most magnifying glasses, if not all, that are attached to a compass are a map reading tool.
194
That's what it's for.
195
You have increments on here for measurements on a map.
196
And I believe it goes from one to four and a half inches.
197
You have a bezel ring right here that will actually rotate with 360 degrees on here.
198
It is a functional compass that is accurate as hell.
199
The one thing I do not like is on most compasses you have a tick mark when you rotate your bezel ring.
200
That tick mark tells you the direction of travel, where you want to go.
201
This one does not have that.
202
However, there's a center dot at the top right here, and I'll show you that in a minute,
203
that you can line up with and put your red portion of the needle into the green doghouse.
204
Instead of red in the shed, it's red in the green doghouse.
205
Same thing.
206
And once you do that, you can walk that straight line through the woods.
207
Here's that dot that we're talking about.
208
There's our green doghouse.
209
So let's say we want to go 120 degrees.
210
I'm going to line it up with that dot.
211
Then take the red portion of our needle and we're going to rotate it until it lands in that doghouse.
212
Now I know that that direction is 120 degrees.
213
The Stansport Folding Saw at Menards.
214
we're looking at around 12 to 14 dollars
215
and that's right in the price range of a budget folding
216
saw think back to about two months ago i did a
217
video on budget saws i did not go to menards
218
and now i wish i had this saw right here has
219
an overall length of 15 inches blade length of seven inches folding length of nine inches
220
and the blade itself is made from carbon steel a lot of is a stainless steel.
221
This one is carbon steel.
222
And it's actually made to where it will cut on the push and the pull.
223
In addition to that, we have a sharp 90 degree spine in the back,
224
which will tear up a ferro rod and rain sparks. so Let's
225
go ahead and get the receipt out.
226
Because now, I said $12 to $14, and now I'm actually curious.
227
Camper saw, $12.99.
228
I am happy with that.
229
And another saw to add in my collection.
230
This actually ranks up there with my Walmart saw so look forward to seeing these in my videos
231
I'm all about saving money and you should be too Check them out Menards Stan Sport folding saw so
232
this knife right here of all the items i purchase is by far my favorite one it resembles a mora
233
if i saw this in somebody's hand at a distance i'd be like they got a more companion spark
234
because it has a ferro rod wrong answer this is a camelis
235
and i believe it's their felix i'm going to read this off on here
236
because i've never seen this before or even used it it's a stainless steel blade
237
and blade length is three and a three quarter inches overall eight
238
and a half comes with that plastic sheath
239
and this one here is titanium bonded and their claim is in doing so it's stainless
240
bonded with titanium to make the blade last longer i guess when you sharpen it
241
it's supposed to stay sharpened longer my question is after repeated use six months a year
242
does the titanium wear down i don't know
243
that process i don't know exactly how that is or the metallurgy
244
if you know let me know
245
but that's their claim just using this before this video it's
246
razor sharp like i said it's like a mora i would
247
think this is a carbon steel blade on a mora
248
so i'm happy with that i'm very very happy with
249
that we have the fire starter in the back just like a mora
250
and you know it does exactly what it's supposed to do it's even got
251
that sharp 90 degree spine back it's a fixed blade 420 stainless steel again three
252
and three quarter inch blade it's dual injected handle has that polymer plastic stuff on there with rubber
253
has the fire starter and a molded sheath with a belt clip
254
and you can't beat that price 15.99 the cheapest more companion spark that i could find was 26 bucks on Amazon.
255
Same color and everything.
256
I'm happy with this.
257
Feels good, looks good.
258
Appears to be a Scandi grind on here.
259
It resembles a moor, like I said.
260
You can just drop it when you're done and be back in the game.
261
And that sharp spy on the back, you can hear that.
262
That's going to tear up a ferro rod.
263
I'm
264
going
265
to go to the next video.
266
So the one thing I failed to talk about was a fork and knife and spoon set.
267
You could simply grab a fork or a spoon out of your drawer at home and be good to go.
268
But this was sold at Menard so I grabbed them.
269
This is a Yuko fork, knife and spoon set.
270
The spoon and knife are attached and they fit inside where the fork goes and they nest inside each other.
271
Just toss it into the backpack and you're golden.
272
I've shown note taking gear in several videos over the past decade at least.
273
And the military is responsible for that.
274
They've ingrained that in me from the very beginning.
275
When you become a team leader, squad leader, you gotta pass information down to your fire team or squad.
276
And you do so back in my day with a notepad and pencil.
277
Nowadays, who knows what they use?
278
Probably your iPhone.
279
With that said, you can't go wrong, especially doing any type of land navigation, by carrying some type of notebook,
280
pencil, pen, something to take notes with.
281
Does it have to be right in the rain?
282
No, it does not.
283
I've had a higher usage rate of these versus regular paper when it gets wet.
284
If you look at this, it has horizontal lines that you can write on, and you have dashed lines going vertical, which gives you grid paper,
285
and there's a ton of uses for that as well.
286
You can mark trails, azimuths, back azimuth.
287
What did I find on that azimuth?
288
How far did I walk?
289
Very worst case, you could tear a sheet off, crumple it up, and leave it as you move.
290
Any type of search and rescue can come behind you, and they can see that, hey, we found this.
291
Leave a note on it.
292
hammer it to a tree using some type of wooden nail.
293
You know, there's a lot of things you can do with a notebook and pencil.
294
Very minimum, keep your own morale up.
295
Take notes, write messages, things like that.
296
Keep your head in the game.
297
So one thing I always want to try to carry with me whenever I can is some type of chemical light.
298
Either a full-size one like this or those mini ones.
299
these have a range of options from simply marking a campsite
300
so if you wander off at night to use a latrine you find your way back
301
or mark that latrine and mark the camp or
302
if you have more than one person
303
and you have to walk at night you can strap this
304
to your body put it in your backpack on the outside of it let it dangle off there
305
so the person can see where you're going see and follow behind
306
or think of it like this if people are searching for you at night
307
and there's a high probability that someone's looking for you in early morning hours or right when it becomes dark
308
popping one of these
309
and they're using some sort of night vision they're going to see this it won't show on thermal
310
but it's going to show on some type of night vision binocular scope or binoculars.
311
So it's always a plus to have something like this.
312
You can just crack it, snap it, shake it up, and wave it around or at least walk around with it if you had to.
313
And the chances of being seen or being used as a signaling device
314
will increase your survivability or the chance of being found that much more.
315
last but not least we have food and i wait till the end
316
because there's a lot to talk about here with this first off i had no idea
317
that ready wise actually made their version of an mre
318
which is exactly what this is there's two meals inside here there's a dinner
319
or a main portion
320
and some type of dessert now i have not gone on
321
the website to actually see what all meal options are available yet, but I will later on.
322
And I plan on doing a separate video with things that are like this.
323
Other companies that are doing similar things, we'll do that in the future.
324
But we have two meals here.
325
And on the back, it says self-heating meal kit.
326
It gives a nutritional breakdown.
327
All together, it's about 500 calories for this one here.
328
And we're looking at about 600 calories for this one right here.
329
It's not a lot, but it's not a lot in the scope of things.
330
Now, if you're like me, and you're eating four to five meals a day, and they're five to 600 calories a piece, this is perfect for one of my meals.
331
Now, if you're just a regular average American, and you're like 500 calories, get a rope.
332
And you're used to sitting down to 2,500 calories per meal, and you're eating three, four times a day, you might be packing around a few extra pounds that you probably don't need.
333
So something like this is gearing more towards what a meal should be.
334
And the serving size says one serving.
335
So it's geared towards one person.
336
And from the sound of it, it sounds like you have to add water to this and then warm it up.
337
Now here's the benefit of something like this, along with MREs or similar meal options.
338
I mean, similar, it could be canned goods.
339
If it were dumping rain right now and I couldn't get a fire, can I still eat?
340
Yes, I can.
341
It's flameless.
342
just like busting open a can of chili or raviolis things like
343
that can of tuna something
344
that does not require open flame to cook is always your best option
345
and should be your first option just in case you can't get
346
that fire or the opportunity to get one isn't there you lost your lighter your ferro rod
347
so on and so forth you can still eat
348
and have a full belly and hopefully water as well and sleep that night and then get up and start fresh
349
so anytime you have an opportunity to get something like this that requires no open flame
350
my opinion do it first time every time
351
i filmed the meal and a couple other scenes underneath
352
that tarp and you couldn't hear a word i was saying
353
so we're going to go ahead and omit those
354
and then i went back and checked the progress
355
that we have showing everything doing everything we're sitting at 20
356
plus minutes the rest of the half of the video is going to be another 25
357
or 30 minutes
358
and i already know from experience most can't watch 20 minutes
359
we get a three to four minute watch time now
360
so i'm not going to bore you with the extra 20 minutes
361
if there's a good demand for this video for this stuff for this gear
362
and a bunch of people jump on it
363
and they want to see a part two i'll give you part two

이 비디오에서 "time again"은 [타임 어겐]처럼 연결되고, "what i wanted to do"는 [왓 아이 완티드 투 두]가 아니라 [왓타 완티드 투 두]로 발음됩니다. 또한 "it's not because"에서 "it's not"은 [잇스 낫]이 아니라 [잇스 놋]으로 축약되는 것을 들을 수 있습니다. 이러한 연결과 축약을 따라하면 native speaker처럼 자연스러운 발음을 연습할 수 있습니다.

Native처럼 말하는 방법: 리듬과 강세

shadow speak 연습을 할 때는 화자의 리듬강세를 따라하는 것이 중요합니다. 이 비디오의 화자는 "the most important is it has to carry all the items"에서 "most important"와 "carry all the items"에 강세를 두고, "right?"
