1
So look, I don't know who needs to hear this, but it really is that damn phone, okay?
2
And this is coming from someone who had a severe scrolling addiction.
3
I'll wake up, eye boogers still in my eyes, dried up drool on the side of my mouth,
4
and I would grab my phone and look at it and just immediately start scrolling.
5
When I'm walking, I scroll in the car, on the train, on the couch, in bed.
6
I never realized that I spent pretty much every single second of free time that I had scrolling.
7
And then at one point, it was just starting to take a toll on me, honestly, going through a depressive episode,
8
and I was like, I need to do something about this.
9
Like I don't feel good about myself i'm waking up every day feeling so drained like what is going on?
10
My attention span was cooked.
11
My anxiety was getting worse I would wake up every day feeling
12
so drained and tired and just like having no energy I felt
13
so behind in life and it's crazy because even though I didn't feel good
14
My escape was to still scroll and it ended up making me feel worse
15
And finally I realized I got up and I was like no this cannot continue any longer
16
So your girl decided to do a seven day no scrolling challenge.
17
Yep And let me tell you my life completely changed.
18
I completely changed.
19
I literally feel like a new person
20
My discipline came back.
21
I no longer feel behind in life I'm doing things
22
that I always said I was gonna do
23
but always said I didn't have time for I'm
24
so much more intentional and present in my life I'm happier I'm more confident and
25
if you're wondering why I did a no scrolling challenge instead of just not being on my phone at all for one
26
Week, it's cuz look, you know, it's 2026 girl
27
Like I cannot sit here pretend
28
that I can throw my phone into the Hudson River Never look at it again use a flip phone
29
and just like be a caveman never use my phone or the internet ever again
30
Like no, that is just not realistic.
31
My entire job is literally online I talk to my friends and family on my phone all the time
32
My camera is on my phone my calendar my maps my music my memories literally everything is on my phone
33
It's not realistic to get rid of this completely
34
So that's why I don't actually think the solution is to just get rid of your phone
35
and after seven days of no scrolling at all I can confidently tell you it really is that damn phone
36
But the good news is
37
that you can actually use your phone to help you level up your life instead of letting
38
it take away from your life
39
So in this video, I'm going to share with you why scrolling is ruining your life
40
How to stop zoom scrolling get disciplined level up your life and still be able to use your phone by the way
41
If you're new here, my name is Lina and I share all things leveling up and becoming your best self
42
So if you're not already following your girl, what are you doing?
43
Okay, what are you doing?
44
Go subscribe right now
45
Okay, first things first, we're gonna talk about my screen time.
46
Okay, everybody sit settle down
47
We're gonna have a little therapy sesh.
48
Okay, I'm gonna expose myself so you don't have to so I first checked my screen time
49
And it was about five hours and three of those hours were spent scrolling on social media
50
And if you do the math on that three hours a day means 21 hours a week
51
That's 91 hours in a month
52
and that's four entire days every month I spent just scrolling and that is four entire days every month.
53
I spent doing this
54
Okay, so here's what I want you to do since we did that with mine,
55
okay i need you to go check yours check your screen time okay look
56
we need to humble ourselves we are in the same boat don't be ashamed don't avoid it okay
57
because we need to be realistic here like i don't know about you
58
but for me i was spending hours
59
and hours of my day every single day wasting my life scrolling
60
so i'm gonna challenge you right now to check your screen time
61
but also to join your girl with this no scrolling challenge for one week
62
and so that we could do something about our screen time
63
and scrolling and as someone
64
that did the no scrolling challenge for one week let me
65
tell you i am now two weeks in of no scrolling
66
because i felt so good after that one week and now
67
that we're sitting here transparent with each other
68
that we have a scrolling problem now we can just look at the data
69
and be like okay i'm spending this many hours i'm spending three hours a day scrolling i want
70
that time back and
71
so don't feel ashamed don't like hide don't avoid
72
it don't feel bad about yourself like we're we're in this
73
boat together whether you're spending 10 hours a day scrolling
74
or one hour a day scrolling and your goal is to stop
75
and take your time back empower yourself empower yourself with
76
that knowledge i'm wasting x amount of time scrolling every day
77
but guess what i'm gonna take x amount of time back to my own life
78
so take the shame and the pressure away from it
79
and just empower yourself
80
and be like you know what for the next week i'm gonna try to not scroll
81
and see what happens
82
so why you should stop scrolling first things first
83
you are not actually living your own life to your fullest potential
84
so this was probably one of the biggest realizations for me
85
when i stopped scrolling think about what happens
86
when you immediately open up social media immediately
87
you're seeing everyone's beautiful pictures looking perfect going on perfect vacations
88
people getting engaged married people getting into their dream school how successful
89
this person is how nice of a body
90
this person has every single time you're opening up your phone to scroll
91
you are consuming everyone else's life instead of being present
92
and living your own your attention is being pulled to all
93
these different things literally instantly as soon as you scroll
94
and again look i'm not anti -social media i have a career on social media I need social media,
95
but there's a big difference between using social media intentionally
96
or Wasting hours and hours every day watching someone else live
97
and during my no scrolling challenge I'm not gonna lie the first couple days.
98
I felt like withdrawal
99
Like I felt like kind of like a drug addict where I was like I was like itching myself I was like, oh my god
100
Like what do I do with this like free time
101
that I have I noticed even at the gym
102
when I was working out I didn't realize how much I would in between sets just like grab my phone
103
and start scrolling because now that I wasn't allowing myself to scroll there was like
104
so many in between moments that were so quiet
105
and i was literally like i didn't know what to do with myself
106
couldn't just like sit with myself in between my sets in my workouts
107
and just like be and after the first couple days
108
and i started to get used to it i started feeling way more connected to my life
109
and what i mean by
110
that is like i've started being more present even during my workouts my workouts started getting
111
so much better because i felt
112
so much more present instead of like scrolling in the
113
in -between moments even during my commute like going on the subway
114
i would spend time scrolling on my phone instead i would just like look at the people around me
115
and like see what's going on see the environment
116
and be like oh wait this life is kind of nice like the weather is nice i like
117
that girl's shoes her outfit is cute
118
or like i just started noticing life more and being present for it
119
and i realized after the first couple days of not scrolling first of all my attention span got
120
so much better i used to have an attention span of a goldfish i couldn't even sit
121
and watch a full like netflix movie but
122
when i stopped scrolling my attention slowly started to come back to my life
123
and i never realized how much my mindset was geared to
124
wondering what everyone else was up to what everyone else was doing any quiet moment throughout the day
125
i would just grab my phone open up instagram going through
126
people's stories like what is everybody else up to what is everybody else doing
127
but since i stopped scrolling i started asking myself like what do i want to do today
128
because i have all this free time now
129
that i'm not scrolling what do i want to do today
130
what do i want my life to look like what am
131
i interested in what do i want to build what do i enjoy creating what sounds fun to me
132
and i just felt so much more grounded with myself
133
and i don't know who needs to hear this but
134
if you are wasting your time scrolling and scrolling
135
and comparing yourself with everyone's perfect lives
136
that you see on social media you need to understand
137
that whatever gets your attention gets your time
138
and whatever gets your time gets all your days
139
and whatever gets all your days eventually becomes your whole life
140
and so you really have to ask yourself who
141
or what currently owns my attention and if you're noticing
142
that you are not happy with where you're at in life it's
143
because your attention is going to literally everybody else by scrolling
144
and comparing yourself so
145
if you are unhappy with where you're at in life right now it is
146
because your attention is going to literally everything else but yourself.
147
So here's your sign to focus on you and put your attention all back into yourself and your life.
148
Scrolling was making my normal life feel boring.
149
So like I said, the first few days of not scrolling, I'm not gonna lie, it felt a little weird.
150
Okay, it felt a little strange.
151
And I realized it's because with scrolling, you are constantly fed stimulation all the time.
152
Like any boring moment, anytime I had a little bit of free time,
153
I would boom, open up my phone and just get to this, you know?
154
And so now that I wasn't doing
155
that every day mundane things were kind of like becoming more enjoyable like for example even making my morning coffee
156
and while making my morning coffee with this hand I would be scrolling with this hand
157
and like the amount of times I would be multitasking
158
while scrolling doing normal everyday things is insane I was doing it all the time all throughout the day
159
and so after a couple days without that stimulation
160
and being distracted all the time and scrolling and scrolling
161
and consuming everyone else's life I had a lot more free time
162
and with that free time I had more space for myself
163
and during my no scrolling week
164
I started going on hot girl walks with my friend just like enjoying the fall weather way more often
165
I went to a bookstore bought a couple of my favorite books I also went to the library,
166
which by the way is my favorite place now.
167
It is literally my safe haven
168
I love the library like I was truly discovering things I genuinely enjoyed outside of being on my phone
169
and I started going to the library to going to the library was something I did as a kid
170
and I never really did it in my adulthood now
171
that i'm an adult and i had
172
so much free time from not scrolling i went to the library
173
and it is stunning and i just love being there
174
and i've been there two to three times a week
175
because i love it
176
so much i was reading more i journaled hung out with my cats more
177
i baked brownies cinnamon rolls i made music playlists
178
i went on sunset walks with a book was reading my
179
book on a bench just like enjoying my life enjoying the sunset literally
180
i was like who am i even my brother he was like who is this person who are you
181
because i was just so much more zen at peace
182
and also just like doing things with my life
183
that i genuinely enjoy and i never realized how much i thought my life was
184
so boring when i was on social media and it's
185
because you're seeing everyone's highlights everyone traveling everyone doing all these cool crazy things
186
so then your real life actually feels boring in comparison and
187
so i never realized how much i thought my life was boring
188
and so then i felt like i had to scroll to stimulate myself
189
when i stopped the scrolling my life became so much more enjoyable
190
and not boring actually way more fun
191
so i think some of us we don't have boring lives we just have very overstimulated brains from scrolling.
192
Sometimes you scroll to avoid yourself.
193
Okay, so this realization was not as cute, but it's true.
194
I noticed I wanted to scroll more when I didn't feel good.
195
So when I was anxious, boom, scrolling.
196
Sad, boom, scrolling.
197
Overwhelmed, boom, scrolling.
198
Bored, boom, scrolling.
199
Scrolling distracts your brain and gives you like this temporary relief almost from answering the questions of like,
200
hey, why do I feel anxious right now why do i not feel good about myself why do i feel
201
so tired what am i avoiding what do i actually need to fill my cup right
202
now doom scrolling takes away from your cup but i noticed
203
when my cup already isn't full that is
204
when i'm tempted to scroll more it's like self -sabotage
205
or something like i don't know i don't know what it is
206
but it was like an escape for me
207
there were times where i didn't feel good i'm gonna be honest
208
there were times where i was like uh i'm bored
209
or like uh i'm feeling really anxious right
210
now i would literally like i said like a crackhead
211
i was like itching myself like i had the itch to scroll
212
but because i couldn't i had to ask myself the hard questions.
213
Why do I feel drained right now?
214
what would actually help?
215
Do I need to go outside, go on a walk?
216
Do I need to journal?
217
Do I need to pray?
218
Do I need to work out?
219
Do I need to call somebody?
220
Do I need to sit here and process what I'm feeling?
221
And that's when I realized like when I was scrolling, I would shame myself and be like, you are so lazy.
222
You're so unmotivated.
223
And that negative self -talk made me feel worse about myself when in reality, it wasn't that I'm actually lazy or unmotivated,
224
but I was so overstimulated from all the scrolling
225
and these social media apps that get you addicted to scrolling
226
that I couldn't be like with myself anymore time literally felt slower
227
so this is like one of the craziest things
228
that i realized in not scrolling time was moving so much slower
229
but in a good way with social media i never realized like
230
because i scrolled so much time was flying by like my week of not scrolling felt longer
231
but not in a bad way it was like wow i actually did
232
so much this week type of way
233
and i actually heard this one thing
234
it's like life happens in those in -between moments in the in -between moments like when you wake up and before work,
235
those in -between moments where you're like making your morning coffee, you're brushing your teeth, you're washing your face,
236
you're hanging out with your dog or your cat, like you're driving to school or work, you're waiting for your bus, like the in -between moments,
237
those mundane, boring in -between moments is actually where life happens
238
because you're able to be present and actually process what's happening in your life.
239
And so I realized when I stopped filling every single empty moment in my days with doing this, I realized I had more time
240
and energy to do other things I wanted to do like reading my book going to the library
241
and I had more time and clarity to like think
242
and just like enjoy my life
243
and yes of course not scrolling gave me those hours I was wasting every day back to me
244
but also I was not trying to pass those in between moments of feeling bored
245
and wanting stimulation by scrolling I was just enjoying the time
246
that I had and so my weeks felt slower
247
but in a good way like they were more enjoyable
248
and here's the thing i realized i actually don't think
249
that this is the enemy first of all we live in 2026 okay we need to accept the fact
250
that this is part of today's day and age also like it's not
251
that i hate my phone i love my phone
252
i take photos videos on it i journal on it i talk to my friends
253
and my family every day my calendar my schedule is on
254
this thing like i this is like part of my life
255
and this is probably one of the biggest realizations for me after the week of no scrolling
256
it really was this damn phone okay the solution is not to just like throw your whole phone away
257
or lock it in a box and go live in the woods and become like a caveman.
258
I still want to be able to use my phone, but not use it in a way that every single time I pick it up,
259
I'm like tempted to scroll and just be distracted, overstimulated and comparing myself with everyone else's perfect lives.
260
And so during my no scrolling challenge, Cove has literally become my little safe space on my phone for just that.
261
It is basically my life diary.
262
There's no endless feed of random people, no annoying ads, no algorithm trying to get me addicted.
263
It's literally just my life
264
so those of you who don't already know about cove think of her as like your all -in -one bestie
265
it's your journal to bring up your thoughts a place where you can upload photos
266
and videos from your day you can create coves for different parts of your life
267
that you want to focus on like for example i have a journaling cove where i journal in it
268
and just like brain dump everything
269
that i'm feeling literally just like rant to myself every day
270
i have a cat's cove where i save all my photos
271
and videos of my cats i literally take a million pictures
272
and videos of them every day i showed this before
273
but i have my outfits inspo one where i'm trying to elevate my style
274
so i save a bunch of my outfit inspiration pictures
275
i have a workouts one a runs one where i track my runs
276
because i'm trying to be in my running era
277
and a romanticized life one where i just like romanticize little moments of my day like look how cute
278
this is me at the library doing work on my hot girl walks doing work at night having
279
this romanticized life cove has helped me romanticize random moments for my day
280
but without having to post it on social media
281
and like i just love this one
282
i think my favorite one has to be my romanticized life cove
283
it really helps me romanticized like little random moments for my
284
day cove is literally where you can curate your entire life instead of consuming everyone else's
285
i kind of want to give you guys a cove tour
286
so you know how you can use it during your no scrolling challenge
287
so here's the home page
288
and these are just my uploads of the day i journaled
289
i did my bible study like i usually do a picture of my cats of course
290
and then when you scroll down there are different cove ideas
291
so for example this chapter of my life wish list time to myself focusing on me there's
292
so many different coves that you can create
293
so for example let's do the focusing on me cove
294
i'm gonna show you exactly how to curate your own cove
295
and we're gonna do it together
296
so this one is the focusing on me you can add your own photo to it
297
or you can go on pinterest find some inspo
298
i love the vibe of this one this is like very focus on you era
299
and there's also a feature to add your friends
300
and i highly recommend this
301
if you're trying to lock in focus on yourself not scroll i'm telling you having an accountability buddy is
302
so helpful i'm gonna add my bestie ashley and so
303
if i send her this she's be able to see it too
304
so it's so cool because you
305
and your accountability buddy can be posting in this together
306
so let's start adding some photos this is actually my bible study for the day
307
i also did work earlier okay
308
so we're gonna add our first photos here on focusing on me
309
you can upload photos journal in it even save links
310
and voila here we go the focusing on me cove
311
and here is like your safe space to upload whatever you want this is how you're gonna stay on track
312
and actually be focused on yourself and so during your no scrolling challenge journal on code for five minutes.
313
Brain dump your thoughts.
314
Upload your photos and videos for the day.
315
Save a little memory you don't want to forget or you want to romanticize.
316
Update your workout cove at the book that you're reading.
317
And so I have all these little moments from the past two weeks of no scrolling
318
that I've been doing where I get to just save my life, curate my little life and be present for it, focus on myself.
319
And I literally love it.
320
And I think that's the whole point.
321
You're not trying to be a perfect nun and just like be someone that never touches their phone ever.
322
Like be so for real.
323
We cannot do that in today's day and age.
324
But instead of just opening up your phone
325
and like a reflex just starting to scroll and just letting hours pass you by, you open Cope and you're able to be like,
326
what am I doing with my day?
327
What happened today?
328
What am I proud of?
329
What am I building?
330
What do I actually want to remember for myself?
331
And so during this no scrolling challenge, use Cove as your replacement habit.
332
Every time you get that urge to scroll, redirect that energy back to yourself.
333
Because now I can look back on my past two weeks of no scrolling and see my journal entries, my Bible studies, my workouts,
334
my hot girl walks, my coffee dates,
335
random wins, like all these little moments from my life so that it actually helps you pay attention to your own life.
336
And because I did this, like I literally feel like a completely different person and I'm just so much more happier and I feel lighter.
337
I feel better about myself.
338
I feel like I'm actually living my life.
339
And that's what I really want with my relationship with my phone moving forward.
340
Not never using my phone or cutting off internet access and living in the woods.
341
Just using it in a way that brings attention back to my life and helps me focus on myself.
342
Decide what counts as scrolling.
343
So let me tell you, you're going to need rules before you start.
344
So for me, I'm going to let myself text, call people, answer emails, listen to music, search things that I want to search,
345
use my camera, watch something, but intentionally.
346
So my rule was no infinite consumption of just scrolling
347
and like i mean i post on instagram for work
348
so like there were times where i had to post even during my no scrolling challenge
349
i was still doing what i had to do but
350
when i tell you i posted i would hit upload
351
and i would leave the app completely i wouldn't scroll
352
i wouldn't look at people's stories i left the app immediately
353
and the rules can be different for you for me i know myself
354
when i'm on instagram when i'm tempted to look at people's stories that's
355
when i immediately just like i could spend hours watching people's stories scrolling
356
and scrolling every single reel and so i told myself
357
if i'm on instagram it's only because i post and
358
if i want to post I could post but then after
359
that I'm leaving the app I'm not scrolling on it
360
so figure out what apps for you maybe it's Instagram YouTube TikTok figure out the apps
361
that you use the most define them
362
and create rules for yourself make scrolling inconvenient let me tell you during my no scrolling challenge
363
there has been times where I was literally like fighting with myself
364
because I wanted to scroll so bad
365
so what I did was I moved all my apps away from my home page
366
so I moved TikTok Instagram YouTube away from my home page
367
and if it helps you could log out of your apps
368
so that you can't even open it and
369
if you open it you will have to log in
370
so log out of the apps move them from your home
371
page put them in a folder put them in hiding set app limits i have 15 minutes on instagram
372
and tiktok also what really helped was charging my phone away from my bed like literally across the room
373
i charge it over here my bed's all the way over there
374
so if i want to scroll i have to literally walk all the way over here
375
and chances are i'm too lazy to do that
376
so i haven't been scrolling but basically you have to set your environment up for success
377
so that you aren't fighting off your temptations every single dang day.
378
Do not begin your morning with someone else's life.
379
I heard this one quote.
380
It's like, when you wake up, you don't allow a hundred people into your room as soon as you wake up.
381
So why, when you wake up, are you opening up your phone and allowing thousands of people into your morning as soon as you wake up?
382
Haven't even brushed your teeth yet.
383
So this is probably one of the most important changes.
384
And it's when you wake up, do not let yourself consume.
385
Give yourself your time first.
386
Make coffee, make a matcha, journal for five minutes, pray, stretch, go work out, go outside, literally stare at the wall if you have to,
387
but just do not scroll.
388
You need to start your day being connected with yourself
389
because you should know how you feel before knowing what everyone else is up to.
390
Make an instead of scrolling list.
391
This one is huge because I'm telling you when you stop scrolling,
392
you're going to realize all of a sudden you're one of the most free women on the planet.
393
That's what I realized.
394
When I stopped scrolling, I was like, wait, I actually have so much free time.
395
I am the most free woman in America.
396
So have a list of what to do when you feel bored from not scrolling.
397
So for example, mine were reading, walking, journaling, going to the library, going to bookstores, baking, making music playlists.
398
Girl, I even bought a sticker book.
399
Yes.
400
I bought a sticker book.
401
When I brought that home, my brother literally saw it and was like, oh, is that for Gia?
402
Gia is my four -year -old niece.
403
Okay.
404
I bought a kid's sticker book because I was like, I'm going to make sure that I do not scroll.
405
I want other things to do.
406
I bought that and I loved it.
407
I had so much fun doing it.
408
I also have a coloring book and I bought crayons.
409
Yes, I'm like reverting to a child again and it's been the best thing
410
Like it's actually been so much fun having like little arts and crafts to do
411
So yeah, like sticker books coloring books posting on cove cleaning something hanging out with my cats playing with my cats
412
And the activity really doesn't have to be productive.
413
You don't have to be productive.
414
This is what I realized
415
Okay, I know I pride myself on being productive.
416
Look, I was not productive
417
There were times where I didn't want to be productive and that's okay
418
Using my sticker book is probably not the most productive thing I could be doing in the world
419
But that's not the point I don't need to optimize
420
and be productive every single second of the day i can just enjoy doing my little arts
421
and crafts because i enjoy it document one thing every day on cove
422
so here's the part that i really want you to do
423
and every day
424
that you're doing this no scrolling challenge for one week at the end of the day
425
i want you to save at least one thing your day
426
it could be a photo a journal entry a thought a workout a memory a win a prayer literally anything
427
and at the end of the seven days i want you to open up your cove
428
and see what you did the last seven days instead of scrolling
429
and i'm telling you you will see a huge difference
430
you will actually be able to see what you did with your time instead of scrolling
431
and also you're gonna realize how much better you feel
432
so yes all this to say unfortunately it really is this damn phone okay
433
but it doesn't mean you need to get rid of your phone completely
434
You just need to change your relationship with it
435
and that's what i'm working on and I know if I can do it
436
You can do it too.
437
I'm telling you after seven days.
438
I did no scrolling now I'm at 14 days
439
because it helped me so much where I Genuinely feel
440
so good doing it where I don't want to go back and i'm enjoying having more free time feeling better about myself
441
Not feeling behind in life because i'm constantly watching other people's perfect moments.
442
I am posting on cove I'm living my life
443
and romanticizing my life and being present for it
444
and focused on myself guys let me tell you the transformation it's only been 14 days
445
but it is insane the amount of motivation and discipline
446
that i have now from not scrolling it has completely changed my life
447
and my mindset so i know that if i can do it i promise
448
that you can too
449
if you're a real one to watch the end comment down below this emoji
450
and if you are joining the seven day of no scrolling challenge let me know in the comments below
451
so we can all hype each other up
452
because we are in this together i'm still doing
453
it with you guys make sure you follow your girl on instagram
454
and tiktok i post almost daily on there i love you guys
455
