7
Okay, okay, okay, we got the color vibes.
8
Who am I here with today?
9
Will Smith in the building.
10
Did you come from a lot of money?
11
No, no. I came from the opposite.
12
So what was your turning point to financial freedom?
13
I realized that taking advice from somebody who hasn't done what you want to do is almost insanity.
14
Like, listening to people who haven't done the thing that you want to do, that makes you crazy.
15
Do you think money buys happiness?
16
Hell no. There's an amount of money that once you pass it, it buys misery.
17
So what was the most amount of money you made in a single year?
18
In a single year.
19
Guys, I'm about to interview the legendary Will Smith out in Los Angeles.
20
From the Fresh Prince of Bel Air to the box office king.
21
Will Smith has done it all and he's become one of the greatest entertainers, one of the greatest actors of not just my generation, but of all time, you guys.
22
So this interview is about to be one of the best we've done.
23
So make sure you stay tuned from start to finish.
24
With that being said, let's go meet Will and go see what he has to say.
25
All right, you guys.
26
So we just got in the gate of where we're going to be interviewing Will.
27
He's going to be coming out at any minute now.
28
So we're going to be linking up with him in just a few minutes.
29
Come on, you guys.
30
What's up, man?
31
How you doing, Will?
32
Man, it's all love.
33
Great to meet you.
34
How you feeling, brother?
35
Great, man.
36
Happy to be out here.
37
Okay, okay, we got the color vibes.
38
We got the color vibes.
39
I'm Jack.
40
Nice to meet you.
41
What's up, Will?
42
I'm Josh.
43
Good to meet you.
44
Josh, what's the deal?
45
Happy to be out here.
46
Man, it's all good.
47
You on a big run lately.
48
A little run right now.
49
A little bit of a run.
50
For sure, for sure.
51
We had a great shoot yesterday with Tom.
52
Tom, yeah, I saw that.
53
I was telling him it was like three hours, we hit a million on IG, so just trying to keep on going.
54
Love that.
55
We're excited about this, man.
56
We love all that you do, and we're just happy to be here with you right now.
57
This is great.
58
Who am I here with today?
59
Will Smith in the building.
60
And for those that don't know, what industry did you decide to pursue a career in?
61
Well, I started in music and then I went into television and then into film and ultimately into production and business.
62
So you're a little diversified.
63
Well, you know, man, I like to have a couple hyphens.
64
Do you think people should hyper focus on one thing when they're starting out?
65
Or do you like the idea of kind of diversifying your efforts into different ventures?
66
How do you feel about diversification?
67
Because you wear many hats.
68
I think of it like an arrow.
69
So if you think about the one thing you do really well at the tip of the arrow, and you gotta do it really specifically and really well,
70
and then after the arrow bursts through the universe, then all the other things you do can come through behind it.
71
But I think it's really, really important to like master one thing.
72
One of my favorite books growing up was The Alchemist, and it says the whole of the universe is contained in a single grain of sand.
73
So I took that to be, if you learn how to do one thing really,
74
really well, you can expand your knowledge base from the comprehension of that one thing.
75
Now you've become one of the greatest entertainers of all time, undoubtedly one of the greatest of all time actors.
76
Thank you, thank you.
77
What's been the biggest driving factor of your success throughout your career?
78
If you can attribute it to one thing, or maybe it's a couple of things, what's really led to your success that separated you apart from 99% of people in one of the most competitive industries?
79
One of the things I discovered really early is that the win goes to the most hours committed.
80
When I realized that how I spent my time and attention on a daily basis,
81
if I do something for 10 hours a day and you only do it for nine hours a day, in a year it's going to be really hard for you to beat me.
82
So I realized very, very early, I was probably 18 by the time I knew that the time applied was cumulative.
83
And even if you were more talented than me, if I put in more hours than you, it would be really hard for you to beat me.
84
Now you've played many roles in the entertainment business.
85
As an actor, what's the most interesting thing that you've learned about people throughout your career?
86
I guess one of the big things that I've learned is that even what we call people, what you say a person, is not actually a person.
87
It's like a personality.
88
It's a small constellation of ideas that a person has chosen to live within and say that that's us.
89
And I guess the thing I've learned is that we're way bigger than we think we are.
90
We're way bigger than we allow ourselves to be.
91
We are way more than the little sliver of race, creed, color, city, country, you know,
92
that we confine ourselves to and that idea of a person can even become the prison that keeps us from excelling.
93
Now you starred in the movie The Pursuit of Happiness.
94
It's one of the most perspective shaping movies of all time.
95
Did that What changed your perspective when you were filming it?
96
One of the big things that I learned from Chris Gardner and working on that movie is that suffering is a gift.
97
The universe teaches through difficulty.
98
God teaches through suffering and hard times.
99
And the shaping of a person, the shaping of a willpower,
100
the shaping of your energy is almost always exclusively in adversity.
101
And with Chris Gardner, how he talked about the education of his suffering was one of the major lessons
102
that I took away from that movie.
103
Like to get comfortable being uncomfortable if you want to achieve.
104
Do you believe in God?
105
Absolutely.
106
How important has faith been for you throughout your career?
107
The idea of God and people throw different words around and people have different definitions.
108
I believe in an energy that is constantly creating in all things that if I cultivate a relationship with,
109
I can be more powerful than I am.
110
I can do things a hundredfold what Will could do.
111
If I tap into the movement and the energy and the flow
112
and the creative intelligence that's making the sun and the stars and the trees that we're breathing.
113
If I tap into that, I know I can be infinitely more powerful, creative than me with my ego construct.
114
Another movie you starred in is Hitch.
115
And I think one of the greatest lessons of that, there's a quote that the world is overly cruel to shy men and it rewards the courageous.
116
Confidence and belief in oneself is one of the biggest things people that struggle with.
117
And it's what prevents them from finding success.
118
How did you personally find the self-belief and the confidence within to go out and make tens, hundreds of millions of dollars and be so successful in your industry?
119
I think one of the biggest things I learned about confidence was on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
120
The confidence is one side of it, but it's built on not being scared to look stupid.
121
So it looks like confidence when you're not scared to fail, right?
122
It's not actually confidence in its seeds.
123
It becomes confidence after you get used to rejection.
124
You get used to doing it wrong.
125
You get used to being okay when you tell a joke
126
and that one's not funny and you get comfortable if you hit three out of ten, you know, you're in the Hall of Fame.
127
The comfort to fail in front of people is what is perceived as confidence.
128
You stop worrying about what everybody else thinks.
129
Taking advice from somebody who hasn't done what you want to do is almost insanity.
130
Like, listening to people who haven't done the thing that you want to do and ingesting the poison of their ignorant opinion,
131
that makes you crazy.
132
It reminds me of the same, never take advice from someone you wouldn't trade places with.
133
Right, yes, exactly.
134
And it was one, you know, I got that one time, I was going through something and I called Quincy Jones.
135
And, you know, I don't even remember what the problem was and I asked him and Quincy was like, he said, man, how the fuck I'm gonna give you advice?
136
It was like, he said, I wouldn't have chose none of the shit you chose.
137
He said, whatever you're doing, just keep doing that.
138
And it was like, that was a real vote of confidence
139
that even somebody in his position backed off of giving advice in the understanding
140
that everybody knows what they know and only they can know for them.
141
Nobody can really know for you.
142
And, you know, you'll actually get to a point where you ask for advice less
143
and you just sort of watch and listen and let people tell you what they think from their behavior.
144
Yeah.
145
And you kind of lean on your own intuition.
146
Yes, absolutely.
147
One time somebody told me that if a bird lands on a branch, does the bird trust the branch or does it trust its wings?
148
I've seen many birds land on branches, but what I've never seen is the branch break and the bird fall and die.
149
Yes, exactly.
150
So guys, listen very carefully because I'm about to drop one of the most insane offers
151
that I've ever done for the next 24 hours only.
152
So exactly one year ago today, I launched what has now become the number one community for entrepreneurs in the entire world
153
and it's called the School of Mentors.
154
And inside the School of Mentor, I give you direct access to the hundreds of millionaires
155
and billionaires that I interview and give you the opportunity to ask them questions live.
156
And now, in order to celebrate our one year anniversary, we are gonna be doing something insane.
157
We are giving you the opportunity to join the greatest entrepreneur community on the planet for just $1 a day.
158
Guys, you can literally speak with millionaires and billionaires every single week
159
and ask them questions live for just one freaking dollar a day.
160
Let me be clear, this isn't a course.
161
This isn't a mastermind that costs you $25,000.
162
This isn't outdated information.
163
This is live access to the people that have already built what you're trying to build.
164
So if you're in a nine to five and you want to change your life, this is for you.
165
If you have a business idea and you want to bring it to life, this is for you.
166
And if you're already an entrepreneur and you want to scale to seven, eight and even nine figures, this is for you.
167
But here's the thing.
168
The only catch is that this offer is only good for 24 hours.
169
After that, it's gone and we're raising the price again.
170
So if you're watching this right now, you still have time.
171
All you have to do is go down
172
and click the link in the description of this video to join the School of Mentors, the number one community for business owners in the entire world.
173
I can't wait to see you on the inside of the community.
174
But with that being said, let's get back to the interview with Will.
175
What is the greatest piece of advice that Will Smith has ever received?
176
There's one lesson that a mentor taught you throughout your career, right?
177
You've networked with millionaires, you've networked with the most successful people across different industries.
178
Give me one piece of advice you could give to somebody who may not have a great mentor.
179
That's good.
180
There's a couple of them.
181
My grandmother, when we were going on tour, as we were getting on the tour bus
182
and she were gone away she said hey baby just remember
183
everywhere you go one day you're gonna have to go back i didn't get it in that moment
184
but as i started to go in my career i started
185
to realize like oh shit it's all relationships everything is relationships you never know you meet somebody right now
186
and they're 16 but when they're 24 they're going to be running the company
187
that you're trying to sell something to Sue and
188
when they're 34 your kids go to their kids school
189
and all of that right
190
and it's like you start to develop a network of friends throughout your life
191
and you absolutely never know we have no clue how we're going to cross paths in the future
192
and it's critical that even as small as a smile in a moment you recognize
193
that every person is going to be a part of the tapestry of your future
194
and just taking a minute to connect and to realize
195
that what you're going to build there's going to be a necessity for hundreds
196
if not thousands of other people to help you people will take you places
197
that money can't amen
198
so did you come from a lot of money no no i came from the opposite
199
so what was your turning point to financial freedom give you
200
that turning point in your life i realized that sometimes what you're good at is different than what you like.
201
So I love making music.
202
I love being on stage, but I'm actually better as an actor.
203
And I had to make the choice to go with what I was better at.
204
And I tried to mix the music in there.
205
But the real turning point for me was realizing
206
that my greatest skill set was acting and I chose to master
207
that above all things in my career and then finance came behind
208
that behind the mastery
209
so what was the most amount of money you made in
210
a single year oh we don't I don't like to talk about
211
that maybe revenue revenue across all the businesses yeah yeah you
212
know there was there was plenty of zeros plenty of zeros
213
but I don't I don't like to discuss the actual amount maybe an accomplishment financially
214
or even from like a box office standpoint
215
that you're the most proud of Hancock
216
and I am legend were within six months of each other
217
that was one of the biggest years of my career and one of the most creative periods.
218
I think Hancock was in June, and then I Am Legend was in December.
219
Christmas was nice that year.
220
Right.
221
Do you think money buys happiness?
222
Hell no. Actually, there's an amount of money that once you pass it, it buys misery.
223
Once you have a certain amount of money, you can change people's lives.
224
So it's really all people can think about.
225
So it's difficult to make new friendships at certain financial points, right?
226
In America, somewhere around a million dollars a year, it starts going the other way, where it's more problems beyond that.
227
And you start getting into really an attack zone.
228
You broke this down beautifully about Clifftop versus Rock Bottom.
229
Yeah, for sure.
230
Everybody thinks when you hit Rock Bottom, that's when you change.
231
Can you break that down real quick for them?
232
The idea of Clifftop, it's like a corresponding place to Rock Bottom.
233
And after you've had all the money you've wanted, and you've had all the sex you've wanted, and you've created all the things,
234
and all the fame, there's a corresponding abyss
235
that you can actually pop off of the top of the material world and you're like, oh shit, there's literally nothing I wanna buy.
236
There's literally nobody that I wanna have new sex with.
237
There's nothing, and it's a terrifying place when you realize nothing material can actually satisfy you.
238
And it's a similar abyss at rock bottom.
239
And the realization is that what you're actually looking for is you.
240
What you're actually looking for is a comfort that will only come with you totally by yourself with none of this shit.
241
And then once you are stable in your place, you were talking about the bird and the branch.
242
Once you're comfortable in your wings, the branch can be weak or strong.
243
When you get a strong branch, it's great.
244
When you get a weak branch, that's cool.
245
It's another lesson.
246
You'll find another one but there's a certain stability in yourself
247
that you trust yourself that you can handle whatever comes
248
that is above any kind of false material safety comfort because it's not real.
249
There are diseases that are not curable that your money won't be able to fix.
250
There are relationships that break up that you can't buy back.
251
When loved ones die, there's nothing you can do.
252
So there's certain things in this life that only an absolute steadiness in yourself in the face of whatever
253
life has to offer.
254
That's the only thing that can make this place bearable.
255
Your last message to the younger generation in one sentence.
256
Recognize the absolute infinite nature of what you could do.
257
Consciousness is this crazy gift that literally can do anything.
258
You don't have to go to the job you went to today.
259
You don't have to live where you live now.
260
You don't have to be in the relationship that you're in.
261
You literally can do anything that you choose.
262
It just takes a certain amount of willingness to suffer.
263
But this thing, whatever we are, is a crazy, infinite, magical tool of creation.
264
Will, you got amazing advice, my friend.
265
Appreciate you, brother.
266
Thank you so Thank you, man.
267
I appreciate you.
268
