Hello from the Valley of Fire.
2
I've taken a trip to Las Vegas with my Delta SkyMiles
3
Platinum American Express card to visit one of my photography bucket list destinations, the Valley of Fire.
4
The Valley of Fire sits about an hour outside of Las Vegas and it's known for its red sandstone formations.
5
And there's nothing like spring in the southwest.
6
The desert is one of my favorite regions to get outside, but I've never explored the areas around Las Vegas, so that's what I'm doing this week.
7
So right now it's just after sunrise and I've been capturing this view of the park road
8
rolling and winding through the sandstone.
9
It's one of the more iconic views in the park.
10
As you can see, this park is nice to even just drive through
11
because these are the views you get on the side of the road.
12
This is a shot where I'm going to be using a longer focal length to really compress that background, bring that road closer.
13
There's even a mountain way down there at the very end of it.
14
Bring that closer and really capture how grand everything feels.
15
I'm out hiking the White Domes Loop Trail, and this one has a slot canyon, which is always fun and great for photos.
16
I have to say, the park is so quiet.
17
I'm surprised it's not busier.
18
It is a weekday, and it is the morning, but pretty much everywhere I've gone, I've had to myself.
19
I thought it would be busier.
20
Slot canyons are one of my favorite places to take photos
21
because the colors are so beautiful and you can get some really cool compositions with winding turns and they're just so unique.
22
There's no other landscape that you can take pictures like this in.
23
Another must-do hike in the Valley of Fire is the Firewave Trail.
24
It's a little over a mile out and back and takes you to this incredible striped rock formation.
25
Something I loved about the Valley of Fire is most of
26
the features of the park are only a short hike away or even visible from the side of the road, so you can see a lot of things in a short amount of time.
27
There are petroglyphs, arches, and great views all around.
28
After the Valley of Fire, I headed back to Las Vegas.
29
Something I love about Las Vegas is how easy it is to get to.
30
I flew non-stop from Austin with Delta, and when I booked my Delta flights with my Delta Amex, I get to check my first bag for free, so I'm saving up to $70 round trip.
31
Las Vegas Vegas is also a great culinary destination.
32
I love trying new restaurants when I travel, and with my enrolled Delta Amex card, I can earn up to $120 back in statement credits annually,
33
up to $10 a month on eligible purchases with US Resi restaurants.
34
So I dined at Wino, and oh my gosh, if you're in the area, this is such a cool spot, and the interior design is stunning.
35
It's a wine bar and bottle shop that also has a great food menu.
36
They do sandwiches, salads, and other small plates, but I knew immediately what I was going to get, and that is the cheese board.
37
I will never pass up a cheese board and it was delicious.
38
It was the perfect afternoon stop.
39
This afternoon I'm out at Red Rock Canyon which is an enormous nature conservation area right on the edge of Las Vegas.
40
There are a lot of hiking trails here but
41
if you don't want to do anything too strenuous there's a 13 mile scenic drive
42
which is what I'm currently doing and it is so beautiful.
43
You get incredible mountain views.
44
There are lots of places to stop and park and get out
45
and take pictures and a lot of hiking trails start from points along the drive.
46
It is absolutely worth doing.
47
If you're in Vegas and you have a few hours and you want to get out in some wide open space, I would highly recommend it.
48
If you do want to come do this, the scenic drive has capacity limits for entry.
49
Reservations are available on the park's website for timed and entry windows.
50
Right now when I'm here though, it's pretty wide open.
51
I made this reservation a couple hours ago, but maybe during peak season on a weekend, things could fill up.
52
So just plan ahead.
53
Also, you should know, especially if you're a photographer who likes to hunt around for the perfect spot to take pictures, the scenic drive is one way.
54
So once you pass something, you can't turn around and go back to it.
55
You have to do the full 13 mile loop, exit and re-enter.
56
I'm going to be doing multiple passes through the loop for that reason alone.
57
I'm back out at Red Rock Canyon for sunrise and this is the end of my Nevada desert adventure.
58
I have had the best time this week running around, hiking, taking photos, and I got some shots I really love.
59
It's so beautiful here it's hard to take a bad photo.
60
I also played around with some self-portraits on this trip
61
which is something I used to do a lot more and I realized
62
It's been a minute since I just set up my tripod and had some fun taking photos.
63
If you're looking to take a trip somewhere that's sunny, outdoors, scenic, I highly recommend this area around Las Vegas.
64
And be sure to check the link in the description to
65
learn how you can make the most of your travels with the Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express card.
66
Thanks for watching as always and I will see you in the next one.
67
Bye!
