Now Dublin Independent Fashion Week kicked off today.
2
Now in its fourth year, the designer-led event showcases local Irish brands
3
and comes ahead of a decision by a dairy-born designer to launch Dior's Autumn Winter Collection in the Irish capital in December.
4
Dublin's GPO has seen many things in its time, but a fashion show is a first for this historic site.
5
The opening event of Dublin Independent Fashion Week takes over the post office floor to showcase the work of 60 Irish designers.
6
I feel like here in Ireland, we don't really have a fashion industry.
7
A lot of talent tends to move abroad to pursue a career in fashion.
8
So we have amazing talent like Simone Rocha and JW Anderson making huge waves abroad.
9
But we wanted to create something here to provide a platform for designers to thrive in Ireland.
10
So DIFW has brought me so many amazing opportunities.
11
I got to showcase that Copenhagen Fashion Week because of this collective
12
and I also got to produce knitwear for Netflix's Wednesday as well.
13
The fourth year of this event comes ahead of a national fashion week next month
14
and the launch of Fashion House Dior's autumn winter collection in Trinity College by its dairy-born creative director Jonathan Anderson.
15
Irish fashion is definitely having a moment right now.
16
It's a really great place and time where Irish materials like wool and linen, those are being known, those are being protected.
17
And then the names themselves like Jonathan Anderson or Simone Rasha or Robin Lynch, all of these designers are becoming household names.
18
And not for copying something else or not for being big in Paris or New York, but for being big here in Dublin.
19
More than 40 events are taking place as part of Dublin Independent Fashion Week between now and September 17th.
20
Many are already sold out, showing the level of interest in Irish fashion right now.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "60 designers' work showcased in GPO at Dublin Fashion Week | RTÉ News" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
