1
I'm so glad you said that because I was thinking this album covers
2
so much of who you are for the first time It says
3
so much about who you are from the fight to the
4
fragility from the beginning right to the very end You must have got in there
5
and just being like how do I make sense of all of this?
6
I was first of all very shocked and
7
I didn't realize I didn't realize how much i've been distanced from myself throughout the years
8
So I really got to the greatest part of this solo project for me was
9
that I had time with myself and I never had time for myself, which was great.
10
So, you know, I really got to dig deep inside of who I am and what I am and,
11
you know, all the self-reflecting times.
12
and that's how the album that's how the album was made by really just understanding me better it's real work
13
that oh so much and the most difficult like it was nothing was easy
14
so many new emotions that I got to learn and throughout
15
that it needed so much energy and I didn't realize that to me it was
16
mostly like what kind of words do I want to put
17
in what kind of sound do i want i didn't realize
18
walking into the studio was more about what knowing what i
19
want what i really want all of it as well yeah
20
not just like working with someone who gets you on the day
21
and it's like oh we've got a good vibe here this
22
is a cool track it's like no no no no every
23
step on this record has to tell another part of your story
24
and you're right i think
25
when people say i'm working really hard work is a distraction from self-work so it's like Who am I actually?
26
Harder work.
27
In a lot of ways.
28
No, definitely.
29
We don't get a song like Twin without that.
30
And we're gonna get to that.
31
Oh my God.
32
Yeah, it's a real one.
33
And I think, you know,
34
a lot of people will respond to the honesty on that.
35
But we've got to start somewhere else.
36
And the album's called Ruby.
37
And it's one part of a longer name that became a part of your identity,
38
if the story is correct, when you were young.
39
And you're trying to figure out who you were.
40
Tell us the story behind that.
41
You were in New Zealand at the time,
42
or this was even earlier than that?
43
This is when I wasn't living in New Zealand.
44
And back then, I guess in the back of my mind when I was like 11,
45
knew that I want to create this identity for myself.
46
Like Jenny wasn't doing justice for me.
47
And I was like, I want a longer name.
48
So that's how it was created.
49
What I didn't realize over time was I almost manifested this throughout my years.
50
Like I knew who I wanted to be at a very young age on.
51
and then it was just a matter of what's gonna make you realize
52
so that's also one of the reasons why I landed
53
and I picked the name Ruby for this album but there's just
54
so much inspiration behind that too it's not really only about me representing myself
55
but to me it felt like a new chapter opening
56
and I wanted to I really spent my time referencing many different things about the album
57
and that's when the play of As You Like It by Shakespeare came in.
58
Instantly when I saw the title As You Like It it just spoke to me
59
so much in a way I was like wow I don't
60
know what I like you know on the same subject as before
61
so I told myself I'm gonna make this album as I like it
62
I don't care what anyone else is going to say about it.
63
So that's where we began.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
