2
I've always wanted to work as a mmm, now I'm mmm, and I'm rather good at it.
3
Yeah.
4
I'm in love with my job.
5
Work, work, work, work, work, work.
6
We're so good at this.
7
Yes.
8
hello lovely in this video we'll talk about work ielts speaking part one topic evergreen topic
9
because usually the examiner chooses to ask you questions either about accommodation
10
or work or studies so work it is today i'm maria
11
and my name is rory and we're the host of the ielts speaking for Success podcast, where we give you model answers and vocabulary for the latest IELTS speaking topics.
12
In one of our videos, we talked about studies and now we're going to be talking about work, right?
13
So, as you listen to Rory's answers, could you please think about your answers, okay?
14
So, think about what would I say and write the answers in the comments, okay?
15
This is how
16
answers not just listening to Rory's answers right Rory should people like our video
17
and subscribe they absolutely should if they're enjoying themselves
18
and they should share as well share with your friends
19
and family even people you don't like okay Rory are you ready yes let's talk about work
20
or studies do you work or are you a student I've been working as an English teacher for over eight years now.
21
Why did you choose this job?
22
It's something I've always wanted to do ever since I was a child.
23
I also happen to be rather good at it.
24
Do you like it?
25
I do.
26
I always say it's the best and easiest job in the world.
27
I get to meet interesting people from all over the place and well it caters to my love of organizing things.
28
What's the most interesting part?
29
Well I suppose it would be either the students themselves or finding the material to help them.
30
It's actually quite hard to source published materials for a specific student
31
and you often have to make well you often have to make up your own
32
or modify what's there so you get a nice buzz from successfully pulling
33
that off and what's the most difficult part well interesting
34
and difficult often overlap and the same is true here sometimes a student needs material
35
or asks for a class or lesson that focuses on something
36
so obscure that you wind up sitting there for a while after they ask for this thing and you're thinking to yourself, hmm, how am I going to do that?
37
However, I always get there in the end.
38
Is there anything you don't like about your job?
39
Not overly so.
40
I suppose sometimes people make requests and they aren't even students of mine.
41
So they just ask these things as
42
if I sort of sit on the internet doing nothing and just waiting for people to ask me a question.
43
And that can be quite frustrating, but most people understand when they get gently pushed back that they might have to wait for an answer.
44
What would you like to do in the future?
45
Well, actually, I've come to the conclusion that ideally I'd like to keep doing this.
46
I think I'd happily teach online for the rest of my days, to be honest.
47
However, I'm also training to be a primary school teacher, so we'll see how that pans out.
48
If it doesn't go according to plan, then at least there's a backup that I know I'll like.
49
Thank you very much, Rory, for your answers.
50
yeah so the first question is do you work
51
or are you a student if you do both if you work
52
and you are a student you can talk about both
53
but i think it's easier to talk about some like one
54
thing right again choose what is easier for you to talk about
55
and where you have you know more vocabulary where about like studies or work
56
and rory has used present perfect continuous he said i've been
57
working as an english teacher please make sure you use this
58
structure well i've been working as a doctor for a long time
59
and the next question was why did you choose it
60
and rory used the present perfect rory what did you say
61
it's something i've always wanted to do yeah present perfect i've
62
always wanted to be a doctor i've always wanted to do this
63
and now i'm doing this look at me hey
64
and then rory said that um i'm rather good at it
65
but rory is kind of modest
66
so he says I also happen to be rather good at
67
it like it's some kind of accident although it is oops oops I'm good at it yeah
68
but you can say like I've always wanted to do that
69
and I'm rather good at it right
70
or i work i've always wanted to work as a now i'm
71
and i'm rather good at it yeah
72
when the examiner asks you the question like do you like it
73
or no any other synonym
74
that we can use like i like it i like my job
75
or i don't like my job i'm in love with my job i'm in love with my job
76
or you could if it's the opposite like they say do you like it
77
and you could say well not particularly early and then explain why yeah
78
or the examiner might ask do you like it
79
or why do you like it you can say i enjoy it
80
because like the most enjoyable thing about my job is
81
that rory told us i get to meet interesting people
82
so i get to meet people right
83
so i have a chance to meet interesting people
84
and um then you said something like it caters well to my love of organizing things
85
but it caters well so something caters to something
86
that it just means that it it's um it's it helps
87
or it fits in with something
88
so for example well here being a teacher caters to like my love of organizing things
89
because when you're a teacher you should try to be organized um
90
but let's just say that you're a chef
91
so like being a chef caters to my love of cooking
92
or finding out about recipes because that's part of the job
93
so it's something and something that you already liked
94
so they work they fit together
95
and then what's the most interesting part you can say the most fascinating part is
96
that i get to meet interesting people and Rory, you said that you get a nice buzz.
97
Buzz.
98
Hey, stop it!
99
But that just means that I feel good after I actually managed to do something well.
100
And when you do something well, you successfully pull it off.
101
Which is a phrasal verb, I think.
102
Is it a phrasal verb?
103
It's a phrasal verb.
104
Our phrasal verb course.
105
No, it's successwithielts .com forward slash podcourses.
106
we're so good at this sweet yeah
107
so to pull it off means what uh to have done something right
108
so i pull it off i do it i complete it
109
yeah to do it to do it do it do it
110
what's the most difficult part in your job well you can say the most difficult
111
or the most complicated the most challenging part
112
is Roy talked about some materials for classes right yeah what
113
else can you say in in general about work maybe getting up early yeah
114
or even like you could just say there's nothing particularly taxing
115
about it it's just um you just need to pay attention
116
or something like that um so
117
if we talk about challenging then the word taxing as well
118
that just means makes you tired because you have to put effort in yeah
119
or it could be quite tiring i dislike having to meet
120
the deadlines yeah maybe i dislike my colleagues i hate my
121
boss yes that's why you should work for yourself don't work
122
in an office uh wind up yeah your favorite rory's favorite phrasal verb is allegedly people always say
123
that i say this like all the time but yeah
124
so you wind up sitting at work at night
125
or you wind up doing this or
126
that yes kind of you end up doing that
127
and um the examiner asks you what about things you don't like
128
or you dislike about your work about your job
129
so rory what did you talk about well i just said
130
that sometimes people make requests so that's good collocation to make a request yeah
131
and you said that that could be quite frustrating
132
and you said like a bit frustrating a little bit frustrating frustrating like like you don't don't like it
133
right and annoys you then the last question could be about the future
134
and is usually about the future what would you like to
135
do in the future would you like to change your job in the future
136
and Rory said I've come to a conclusion
137
that I want to do this for the rest of my life
138
and Rory said that for the rest of my days yeah
139
but the rest of your days
140
and the rest of your life are pretty much the same thing yeah
141
so you can say I'd I'd like to keep doing this right or
142
if I want to change things what should i say maybe
143
in the future i'd switch over to oh i'd like to switch over to yeah
144
or i'd like to switch my job
145
or i'd like to quit my job i'd like to become this
146
or if you're not sure you can use i'm into minds about
147
that maybe i'll become a chef or i'll become a celebrity, like a famous blogger, yeah, or I'll...
148
what would you like to do again here you can just lie
149
and you can create some you know you can tell the examiner
150
that uh i'd like to be you know what i've come to a conclusion that i'd like to be
151
a roller coaster tester yeah a person who tests roller coasters
152
although it should be come to the conclusion it's it's usually
153
i've come to the conclusion to the conclusion yeah i've come to conclusion
154
that i want to be this and another phrasal verb is pan out and we'll see how that
155
pans out pans out just means we'll see how well it's
156
like turns out pans out is i'm trying to think
157
if there's like a really easy to explain difference
158
but it's all to do with the end result it's like
159
just see what happens yeah a great phrasal verb uh to pan out
160
so we'll see how that pans out
161
or we'll see how this will pan out in the future what will happen right in the future
162
and um if it doesn't go well or
163
if it doesn't go to plan
164
if it doesn't pan out cool um anything else Rory
165
that you'd like to add about work not particularly although hopefully we've given you enough grammar
166
and vocabulary to work with here yes yeah
167
so make a choice is it work or studies for you
168
and make sure you use phrasal verbs natural phrasal verbs collocations
169
and present perfect with present perfect continuous
170
so I've been working as a I've always wanted you can
171
also say something like i used to i used to work as a doctor
172
but now i work as a lawyer for example
173

Sobre esta lição

Você está praticando inglês com "Answers and vocabulary for WORK | IELTS Speaking Part 1 (2022)" usando a técnica de Shadowing.
