1
Do your part one answers sound really short and really robotic?
2
Answers like, I wake up at 7 o'clock and I go to school.
3
Then you're probably limiting yourself to a band 6.
4
But there are methods to help you develop those answers and boost your score to a band 7+.
5
And today we're going to talk about those.
6
If you don't know, I'm Kevin, a former IELTS examiner.
7
And today, I'm going to teach you a method to answer your part one questions to sound more confident,
8
more fluent, and more natural.
9
It's called the 3S method.
10
Let's get started.
11
Now, if you've watched my videos before,
12
you know I've talked about the 3S method.
13
Three S's stands for state, support, and share.
14
You want to state your answer clearly.
15
You want to support your answer with a sentence or two,
16
giving more detail, expanding on what you're talking about.
17
And the third S is you want to share an example,
18
a story, a feeling, something personal as to you.
19
Remember, your examiners are listening to a lot of IELTS students coming in.
20
And I can tell you,
21
as an examiner, most students give very similar answers.
22
So when I hear someone give an answer that naturally expands,
23
that sounds very natural, that sounds very relaxed,
24
that is talking about themselves personally,
25
it immediately makes me think,
26
wow, this is a higher level student.
27
Today I'm going to expand a little bit on the 3S by saying 3S plus 1.
28
And that plus 1 is about natural speech.
29
You want to add emotion.
30
You want to add intonation.
31
You want to relax and speak to your examiner like you would speak to a friend or colleague.
32
Now, I know it's hard.
33
This is a test, right?
34
And you must take it seriously.
35
But if you can remember to breathe and relax,
36
to speak naturally, it will help your answers develop and it will help your score.
37
I promise you.
38
A common topic in part one is daily routines.
39
So let's look at some part one daily routine questions.
40
For example, the question, what do you usually do in the morning?
41
Let's put an answer on the screen and you can see how this breaks down using the 3S plus one model.
42
I usually start my mornings with a cup of coffee.
43
It helps me feel focused and mentally prepared for the day.
44
For example, this morning I made a Vietnamese drip coffee
45
and reviewed my planner
46
while i sat in my room it's honestly my favorite moment of the day it's calm
47
and quiet this response is great
48
and high level it shows a personal touch it shows me
49
a window into your life into how you personally feel it's not overly long and it's not too short
50
And if you go back and look at it again,
51
it's not full of high-level academic language.
52
Still, it's a really good part one response.
53
Let's go to the next question.
54
Do you enjoy your daily routine?
55
Yes, I actually do.
56
Having a set routine helps me feel productive.
57
For example, I work out around 5 p.m every day,
58
and after that, I feel refreshed and motivated.
59
It gives me structure, which I really need.
60
Again, even without me labeling it,
61
you can see where the three S's are here.
62
I stated my answer.
63
I supported my answer.
64
I shared an example from my life,
65
and then gave you a little bit of a window into my feelings and emotions around it.
66
Another great response.
67
Our last part one question.
68
Is your routine the same on every day?
69
Our response?
70
Not exactly.
71
On weekdays I have a strict schedule because of work,
72
but on weekends I sleep in,
73
relax, and sometimes go for brunch with friends.
74
On Sundays I don't get up until after 10.
75
Another 3S plus 1.
76
And remember, just because you're giving examples does not mean you have to say,
77
for example, every time.
78
In fact, that's something a little lower level student might do.
79
We don't do that.
80
You can give examples without leading into it with those words,
81
and I'll understand what you're saying completely.
82
Now it's your turn to practice.
83
In the description of this video,
84
I'm going to list some part one questions,
85
and I want you to answer them using the 3S plus one method that I just shared with you.
86
Also, I want you to record yourself answering these questions.
87
Go back and listen.
88
Are you clearly stating your answer?
89
Are you supporting that answer with details, with more language?
90
Are you sharing an example?
91
And are you speaking naturally?
92
Don't be afraid to be critical.
93
Grade yourself the way you think an IELTS examiner would grade you.
94
And then practice.
95
Answer the questions one, two,
96
or three times and listen to your responses when you're done and see how you do.
97
If you have any questions about your structure or your response or words to use,
98
leave your answers in the comments below
99
and i will be happy to share my thoughts remember you
100
do not need lots of fancy vocabulary on the ielts test
101
to get a good score you need clarity you need structure
102
and you need your real voice you are a real person taking
103
that test and don't be afraid to share it with the examiner.
104
We love it.
105
And it's something that only high-level students do.
106
If you do that, you're on your way to getting a band 7+.
107
If you found this video helpful,
108
give me a thumbs up and share it with your friends.
109
And until next time, happy studies.

  • Uso de Tempos Verbais: A utilização do presente simples é comum ao descrever rotinas diárias, como “I usually start my mornings with a cup of coffee.”
