Hi everyone!
2
I am Jan B.
3
Pavar.
4
Welcome back to my YouTube channel or if you guys are new over here, then welcome to my YouTube channel on how to get an American accent.
5
Okay, so in this video, I'm going to be talking about three sounds that I personally think are most important in order to improve your American accents.
6
Now, there are a lot of sounds out there.
7
There are vowels, consonants, diphthongs, monophthongs, you know and your intonation stress just too many things out there
8
but here are three most important sounds according to me
9
that are going to help you improve your american accent in a significant way
10
so let's get started sound number one sound one we have is your r sound i think it's a no-brainer
11
because the r sound in american accent plays a huge role
12
every time you're going to listen to an American person
13
or a native speaker of American or somebody who's generally just talking in American accent, you're going to notice their R is way different than ours.
14
For example, it's not R, R, R.
15
It's like R, R.
16
They kind of roll their tongue when they're pronouncing the R.
17
So it's like R.
18
For example, the word, word, word, not word, not word,
19
word, rrr word water not water not water it's water water
20
or for example the word for not for not for for are
21
so to practice the sound what you what you guys are
22
going to do you're going to roll your tongue upwards you
23
know for example your tongue is straight right now roll it upwards
24
and say are are keep doing that over and over
25
and then take a look at words or you know start reading anything and whenever you find the letter r
26
then pronounce it in an American accent.
27
For example, the word American, not American, American, or American.
28
Or for example, the word British, not British, British.
29
So roll your tongue upwards and you're going to practice just like that.
30
Now, obviously, it's not like the proper rule.
31
Okay, they always roll their ours.
32
No, it's just an exercise for you to practice the sound.
33
The next sound, I think, which is super important, is your double T sound in American accent.
34
So, for example, the words like better, matter, shudder.
35
So, in these words, the double T sound is not actually pronounced ta-ta-ta.
36
There is a little duh sound to it.
37
Please listen to this carefully.
38
Pretty.
39
Pretty.
40
I did not say pretty, not the ta.
41
Pretty.
42
Duh-duh-duh.
43
So, it's going to be a very soft duh sound.
44
So it's going to be like pretty, pretty.
45
Better, better.
46
Betty body bought some butter.
47
So it's butter, not butter, butter.
48
Shutter.
49
Shutter.
50
Now, there is a difference.
51
First, there is a word shutter, the D sound, the D sound, but then there is the word shutter with the double T sound.
52
Both are very different.
53
You can literally notice the difference when I'm pronouncing.
54
One is shudder.
55
Another one is shudder.
56
So in the first one, there is a hard D sound.
57
Shudder, dur, dur.
58
But in the double T, there is a very soft dur sound.
59
It's going to be like shudder, shudder.
60
So pronounce after me.
61
Better.
62
Very soft.
63
Better.
64
Pretty.
65
Pretty.
66
butter, matter.
67
Now what you're gonna do, if you're gonna go on your Google, you're gonna find words that has a double T in them, and you're gonna pronounce them with a very soft day.
68
And the last sound that is super important in American accent is the T plus N sound.
69
Please listen to this very carefully.
70
It's very, well, it gets hard a bit.
71
If you're not gonna practice it well, obviously
72
but in this sound for example the word curtain curtain how
73
do we usually pronounce this word we pronounce this as curtain
74
or curtain but in american accent what you're gonna do then your tongue it goes upwards
75
and it touches the roof of your mouth you know like this is the roof of your mouth
76
and this is your tongue so it's curtain curtain curtain curtain
77
or for example the word mountain mountain rotten ro
78
so do not bring your tongue downwards so when you're bringing your tongue downwards, bring it with the N sound.
79
So it's curtain, curtain, mountain, mount, just stop your tongue at the T sound,
80
do not pronounce it fully, mount, and now bring your tongue downwards with the N sound,
81
mountain, rotten, rotten, rotten.
82
So stop your tongue at the T sound and then bring your tongue downwards with the mm sound.
83
So these three sounds are the most important.
84
Now, what you guys can do for practice, obviously rolling your R's, you know, pronouncing the double T as a very soft D and the stopping your tongue and then coming down.
85
For all of these, you're gonna have to practice and you're gonna have to practice hard.
86
Start reading out loud.
87
Basically, find an article, find a book.
88
Whenever you find the R letter, whenever you find a double T or the T plus N.
89
So start pronouncing just the way I've taught you.
90
And after three weeks, you're going to see how it comes to you naturally.
91
Because obviously, consistency is the key.
92
So thank you so much, guys, for watching.
93
I'm going to see you guys in the next video.
94
And for now, stay safe, everyone.
95
Bye.

O que é a Técnica de Shadowing?

Shadowing é uma técnica de aprendizado de idiomas com base científica, originalmente desenvolvida para o treinamento de intérpretes profissionais. O método é simples, mas poderoso: você ouve áudio em inglês nativo e repete imediatamente em voz alta — como uma sombra seguindo o falante com 1-2 segundos de atraso. Pesquisas mostram melhora significativa na precisão da pronúncia, entonação, ritmo, sons conectados, compreensão auditiva e fluência na fala.
