1
I try to stay relatively polite when I discuss other people's content, but this genuinely disgusts me.
2
It's official.
3
Ragebait has ruined the internet.
4
So I'm here with a rant video.
5
A few people tagged me in this TikTok earlier this week.
6
Get ready with me for school.
7
I'm tired of my life But I'm under your window, that's my one since I'm on I'm not the DJ, I want you to turn to be so Come make the DJ somewhere Please send the DJ
8
Now you're not the DJ Please send the DJ Tell me if you're in me Turn the music up
9
It goes from the sky I want you to back to what's right in the- Yeah, so I took a look at this person's account
10
and all of their recent videos are these disgustingly wasteful makeup get ready with me is.
11
But what's interesting is if you scroll back through her post she didn't used to make this content.
12
Her videos started off pretty normal and you can tell
13
that over time she realized that the more weird
14
and wasteful her videos and thumbnails are the more views she gets and this creates the rage bait content trap.
15
Creators will often start off by posting nice normal videos.
16
A nice little normal makeup get ready with me for example.
17
They'll post it but nobody's really interested.
18
Nobody comments or shares or tags their friends because it's just a plain old normal video.
19
So it won't really get any views.
20
On the other hand, a different creator will post a video like this.
21
It's ridiculous.
22
It's wasteful and it's actually kind of horrifying to watch.
23
So people will comment and they'll say that and they'll make jokes.
24
I'm new, is this normal?
25
Free shower makeup.
26
What my teacher sees when I put on chapstick.
27
That one's kind of true.
28
People saying this is irritating me.
29
POV the makeup expires tomorrow.
30
And people will tag their friends, they'll share the video link saying look at how ridiculous this is.
31
All of those interactions help to boost the video even more.
32
And before you know it, the videos are getting millions of views.
33
Normal content doesn't even stand a chance anymore because of stuff like this.
34
And for creators who see their nice normal videos not doing well when this stuff gets millions of views,
35
it's not surprising that lots of them eventually just give up with the normal content and start posting rage bait.
36
Get ready with me for my besties birthday.
37
The wasting of these products here is disgusting.
38
I try to stay relatively polite when I discuss other people's content, but this does not deserve my good manners.
39
This genuinely disgusts me.
40
Like what are you doing?
41
Are we genuinely this desperate for content that we are doing this?
42
Oh my goodness.
43
So this is a great example of rage bait because I'm mad.
44
This kind of content annoys me.
45
To other people it might not make them as mad but it will most likely elicit some sort of emotional response.
46
That's the point of these videos.
47
Whether it's shock, cringe, disgust, or just confusion, I'm feeling all of those right now actually.
48
And drawing out those emotions from viewers is what gets you the views because people will stop scrolling and watch this abomination.
49
And when content like this becomes normal,
50
actual normal real-life content becomes boring to people because it's not making them feel any of those extreme emotions.
51
Here's a different example of people posting rage bait content but this one is really obvious.
52
They even have hashtag rage bait in the caption, genuinely the most annoying type of person.
53
This is giving me Pinterest hate post flashbacks.
54
Is that eyeliner?
55
Stray kids!
56
Hey if liking stray kids makes me annoying, I'm fine with that.
57
But yes, this is another type of video that goes around TikTok.
58
It's not as extreme as the makeup videos
59
but it's still another example of people posting stuff online purely to annoy people and
60
when i saw this i was like okay look you know
61
what surely people aren't gonna fall for this it literally has
62
hashtag rage bait in the caption surely we're all aware enough
63
of rage bait content by now to not be falling for
64
stuff like this right wrong oh my gosh guys i'm annoying
65
because i can't see why do you hate stray kids
66
and this is coming from a sabrina fan genuinely the most annoying type of person i hate
67
and they've screenshot the creator's account and put it in the comments.
68
It's getting heated in here.
69
I think something that's really contributed to the rise of rage bait is the monetization of content.
70
This probably deserves its own video at some point but overall the monetization of short-form content on a large scale,
71
especially TikTok content, has caused some terrible things
72
because people will now do anything to make a couple of dollars from the TikTok creator fund.
73
So if you're eligible for the TikTok creator fund you can make money from posting videos that are over a minute long.
74
They specifically have to be over 60 seconds or they do not qualify.
75
And surprise surprise, these rage bait makeup videos on this creator's account happen to be just over the one minute mark, qualifying them for monetization.
76
What a coincidence.
77
So what I think is happening here, people are desperate for a TikTok payout, and they're willing to do anything to get it.
78
This isn't creative, there's no respectable content being made here, it's kind of an insult to the art form of making good short form content,
79
they're using shock factor and wastefulness to farm interactions and get a high number of views, which in turn earns them more money from the TikTok creator fund.
80
But in the process, it's filling social media and short form content platforms with absolute garbage.
81
Remember last week we talked about this creator who runs an account for her small business
82
and she posted this income breakdown sharing that she made almost two thousand dollars in one week.
83
Three hundred dollars of that income was from the TikTok views alone.
84
That is a lot of money to make in a week just from posting on TikTok
85
and she isn't exactly getting millions of views.
86
However, you can tell that the aim here is to get the videos monetized
87
because the majority of the videos are sitting at just over a minute long.
88
So it just goes to show that there are people out who are making decent income from TikTok videos.
89
All you gotta do is post videos over a minute long, try and score some high views, and wait for the money to start rolling in.
90
I should really start posting my videos on TikTok, huh?
91
Making money from content isn't the issue here.
92
My YouTube channel is monetized, so it would be a little hypocritical of me to have an issue with that.
93
But it's people who try to cheat the system by making content that purposefully farms engagement just for a payout.
94
It gets me so mad because it overshadows creators who actually try.
95
There are creators out there who are putting hours and hours into their videos.
96
Artists, cosplayers, actual makeup artists.
97
The algorithm is no longer favouring them
98
and audiences are no longer willing to give them the time of day
99
because trashy rage bait content is taking all of the attention.
100
I'm becoming painfully aware that this whole video is just me getting rage baited by rage bait.
101
I think I feel so strongly about this because I have always loved original creative content.
102
Funny content, content that you can tell that people actually spend a lot of time on.
103
I love when people clearly care about their content
104
and they make videos about the things that they're passionate about
105
and there are so many creators out there who post really great original creative content
106
and that content gets no views so it becomes a cycle.
107
Creators will start off by posting original creative content then they realize that they're not getting anything back from that.
108
No views, no appreciation, no followers, no creator fund payout, so they start posting stuff for the views
109
or for rage bait or for clickbait or for drama instead
110
because that's what gets the views and that's what makes the money it makes me
111
so sad now we can't discuss rage bait without talking about lucky scoops my speciality
112
and i do love talking about lucky scoop shop content
113
because it's just
114
so intriguing like we discussed in last week's video lucky scoop shops are a great example of
115
that three-step side hustle small business model people will start a Lucky Scoop business
116
and then they'll post loads of videos where they do the Lucky Scoop orders.
117
However, I'm willing to bet that these small businesses make more money from the content monetization than they do from actual orders.
118
And I think a lot of Lucky Scoop shops just post videos of fake orders to get views, which makes Lucky Scoopers the CEOs of Ragebait.
119
Because they most likely rely on their content for income, they will purposefully get things wrong in the videos in order to rage bait people and get interactions.
120
If marketing, the business and advertising your Lucky Scoops was important, surely they would get things right.
121
Or they'd at least make the scoops look good, or they'd make sure that they were getting things correct.
122
But getting people to actually purchase these things and make orders isn't the priority here.
123
And I think a lot of the time, the content is what's making the most income for these Lucky Scoop Shops.
124
And that's why you see so much rage baiting and comment farming in Lucky Scoop Shop content.
125
For example, counting the wrong number of something.
126
One.
127
Only five bags.
128
They said five bags and then counted four.
129
So of course, people in the comments will say, you only put four bags.
130
Not doing the scoops properly.
131
If you watch this one, the fourth scoop is like half a scoop.
132
So people in the comments will say, that's not fair, you didn't do a full scoop.
133
You guys remember the mini mirror video where every single item in this order was a mini mirror?
134
It's rage bait.
135
It's comment bait.
136
These cannot be real orders.
137
There is no way.
138
All of this is just for the content.
139
Because the content is probably bringing in more money than the real lucky scoop orders.
140
And it works because these videos get millions of views.
141
There are so many examples of rage bait out there.
142
I've particularly seen it with those consumerism, viral trend, brain rot landfill core influencers, you know, the ones that unbox the viral mystery dumplings all day every day.
143
They'll open a pink dumpling and they'll say, oh my gosh, I got the yellow dumpling.
144
And all the kids in the comments will be saying, uh, you said pink, but it's yellow.
145
Because kids on the internet love correcting people and they'll fall for the comment bait every single time.
146
I guess what's a little crazy to me is
147
that some content creators and influencers are quite happy to purposefully get things wrong and make themselves look silly, or have comment sections full of kids saying you got this wrong,
148
you got that wrong, they're quite happy to do that in order to farm those interactions.
149
Perhaps it's because some of these influencers' content is so dull
150
and so full of landfill consumerism core that they know
151
that baiting kids into commenting is the only way they're going to get those interactions.
152
It just kind of comes across as a little bit desperate.
153
If all of those creators made good content that doesn't promote extreme consumerism and overconsumption,
154
maybe they wouldn't have to resort to farming rage bait interactions from literal children in order to get views.
155
Anyway, I know this video was very rant heavy but I love social media.
156
My whole YouTube channel is built around my passion for social media
157
and my desire to not watch it burn to the ground because of trashy content and irresponsible influences.
158
TikTok as a platform was everything to me when I was the creator on there back in 2020.
159
It was all so fun, like everyone was so creative and now you open up that app and it's just rage bait,
160
TikTok shop slop and undisclosed ads and that makes me sad.
161
But when you take this rage bait content and add in the wastefulness with a side of overconsumption, now I'm sad and annoyed because people can do better,
162
they just don't want to.
163
They are driven by the views and the clout and the creator fund and it's ruining the internet.
164
Thank you so much for watching, let me know in the comments if you've ever been rage baited really badly by a video or a creator.
165
I post every day on this channel so if you want to see more content don't forget to subscribe.
166
I also have a second channel where I post the occasional vlog too.
167
I'm on Instagram and TikTok, it's ragexluise with two L's and I will see you next week.
168
Bye!
