1
Hi everyone!
2
I think it's already clear what this video is about, so welcome to our dispatcher and broker simulation call series.
3
Here you won't only learn what negotiation is, but you will see it, feel it, and you will hear it.
4
That's right Helen!
5
So in this scenario we have a shipment of paper rolls.
6
Get this, the shipment is very heavy, it's urgent, and it goes through the mountains.
7
So let's Let's get to it and see in the next call what is it all about.
8
I will be the dispatcher in this call
9
and my role is to find out all the load details
10
and negotiate terms that will work for me and for my driver.
11
And this is Brian, our broker.
12
What will you do in this call?
13
That's right, Helen.
14
My role is to find the right carrier and negotiate the right rate for me and my customer, of course.
15
And last but not least, initiate or make sure that the load goes pretty good.
16
Great then, let's get going.
17
Hi, my name is Helen, I'm calling you from Trucking422.
18
You posted a load from Philadelphia to Knoxville for today.
19
Can you give me more details?
20
Hi, hey Helen, yeah, let me see.
21
Right, so the load is pretty urgent.
22
It's picking up at 10 a.m today in Philadelphia, PA.
23
Delivery tomorrow at 10 a.m in Knoxville, Tennessee.
24
Commodity is going to be paper rolls.
25
It's going to be 45,000 pounds in weight.
26
And the pay for this one is 1,100.
27
Is there any chance you can make it closer to 1,600?
28
You know, best I can do is 1,200 actually.
29
For this weight?
30
The load is much too heavy for 12.
31
We can go as far as 1500 that's max.
32
I mean I could add another hundred just to get it done but no more than that rest assured.
33
Are you kidding me?
34
That's like not even two dollars per mile and it's going for the worst mountains with this weight.
35
I'm sure my driver will say no to this
36
and I'm sure no one else will
37
so the max I can tell you it's 1500 or find another carrier that's empty and agree to this.
38
Well, you're on a tough bargain, I guess.
39
Okay, let's go with 1500, let's do it, whatever.
40
What's your MC?
41
My MC is 123-625.
42
Right, right, I'll see we're all set.
43
Give me your email, please, and I'll send you the Raycon. So write it down.
44
It's h.russell at trucking42.com.
45
Do you need an explanation?
46
All right, very good.
47
Please complete the rate confirmation, sign it and send it to me.
48
We're good to go.
49
Great.
50
Talk to you later.
51
Now, how on earth did she convince me?
52
Easy.
53
I learned this from Nick from our truck dispatcher course.
54
And he has so many tactics there that no YouTube video will ever be enough.
55
So check out that link in the description to become a professional dispatcher.
56
Ok, so what happened there?
57
We heard the load weight, we know that having a big weight through the mountains is harsh, so we asked the broker to pay our driver more for the extra struggle.
58
That's right Helen, and plus, because the load was pretty urgent and it was heavy, and your driver made it clear that he was ready to take off, I went along with it.
59
So what should you learn from this?
60
One, always use the information about the load to your advantage.
61
If you know your driver will agree to this but will expect a bigger pay, make it possible.
62
And two, repeat your arguments several times and keep your ground if you have a possibility.
63
Believe me, if Brian here didn't really have an urgent load and didn't care when it was delivered, my arguments in the call wouldn't have worked, right Brian?
64
That's right Helen, and I could have just went on
65
and searched for a different carrier that I would agree to take it for a lesser amount, but because the load was so heavy, it was urgent, I just simply did not have time to negotiate it,
66
so I went along with it.
67
So yes, this is the first scenario of negotiation from the series.
68
There are many more to come so stay tuned and don't forget to like it, subscribe so you don't miss the other ones and of course share it with your beginner friends.
