Hey English learners!
2
Welcome to this A1 English Listening Practice video.
3
I hope you're doing well.
4
Today, I'm gonna talk about traveling with kids, traveling with children.
5
This is something that is on my mind because I just recently traveled to Europe,
6
first to Greece, and then two days in Paris with my family,
7
my wife and my two children.
8
And my kids are very young.
9
My son is still four years old,
10
he's almost five, and my daughter is two years old.
11
They are both very young and many people decide not to travel a lot when they have young children,
12
because it can be complicated.
13
But I did this trip with my kids.
14
It was so much fun.
15
And now, today, I'm gonna talk a little bit about the differences between
16
traveling with young children and traveling without young children.
17

20
Okay, let's talk about traveling with children.
21
Specifically, for me, traveling with young children.
22
Well, the first thing I think of when I think about traveling with children is the flight.
23
Flying to the place where you're going.
24
This can be complicated.
25
Thankfully, the planes that we were on had entertainment,
26
meaning they had screens to watch things.
27
When you have this, it's a very big help because children can watch movies and TV shows for hours.
28
on the plane using these screens.
29
That's what my children did.
30
That's one of the things that they did.
31
So this really helped.
32
But also, they slept on the plane.
33
Many times when you travel far with children,
34
they get tired and need to sleep.
35
Sometimes we need to sleep on the plane.
36
Adults, too.
37
but my children also fell asleep on the planes.
38
That's also helpful.
39
That takes time, right?
40
And the food is also helpful.
41
They serve you food on the plane and that's good for kids usually.
42
So flying can be complicated with kids but But with the entertainment,
43
sleeping, eating, it's possible.
44
It was not very hard for us, thankfully.
45
So that's one thing.
46
How about packing for the vacation?
47
When you have small children,
48
you need to pack different things that you don't normally pack.
49
You need to pack diapers if you have a small child or a baby.
50
We had to bring diapers.
51
We had to bring a lot of clothes.
52
And kids often get messy,
53
meaning they spill food on their clothes.
54
They have accidents.
55
So they need a lot of clothes.
56
So you have to pack differently.
57
Another thing is transportation when you are in the country or the city that you're going to.
58
small children it can be a little complicated to take public transportation especially
59
if the children have to stand up on the bus
60
or on the train the metro my kids had to do this and they almost fell down on the public transportation.
61
That can be a little hard.
62
We also rented a car in Greece.
63
This makes it easier for kids because you can just drive places.
64
But you have to rent cars with car seats for the children, right?
65
So you have to pay extra.
66
Another thing that is different when you're traveling with young children is
67
that it's more difficult to take an Uber or other ride-sharing cars like that
68
because they don't have car seats usually.
69
So sometimes they won't take you,
70
but you can usually still take a taxi.
71
Another thing that is different is walking around when you travel.
72
With kids, you can't walk that far.
73
You can't walk that much.
74
Because kids don't like walking for very long.
75
They complain, they don't want to walk a lot.
76
So you can't do many,
77
many things walking around while traveling.
78
You have limits when you're traveling with young children.
79
My kids walked a lot in Greece and in Paris,
80
But my daughter gets tired easily.
81
So we had to carry her while we walked.
82
My son walked a lot,
83
but he also got tired too.
84
So we had to be careful
85
and not do too much with the kids because it's very tiring to walk and go up and down stairs.
86
In Greece there are many many stairs to go up and down so that can be hard with kids.
87
That's a little bit different.
88
Also the things that you decide to do are usually different
89
when you travel with kids because kids don't want to do the same things that you want to do.
90
Kids want to do other things.
91
So sometimes you have to do what your kids want to do
92
so they can have fun and then maybe they can do what you want to do, right?
93
You have to think about your kids and what type of fun activities they want to do,
94
where they want to go.
95
That's another thing you need to think about.
96
And another thing that can be complicated when you travel with young children is when you go to restaurants,
97
depending on the country and the city.
98
In the US, it's very easy in most places to go to restaurants with your children.
99
It's very normal.
100
However, I know that in some countries,
101
some places, it's not very normal to take your young children to a nice restaurant, for example.
102
So it can be a little hard to go to all the restaurants you want to go to
103
if you have little kids.
104
When we were in Europe,
105
at some restaurants they didn't have chairs for children,
106
and many times my children were the only children in the restaurant.
107
So it can be a little complicated when you go to restaurants in other countries with your children,
108
but this depends on the country.
109
Like I said.
110
Here in the US, it's not a big problem.
111
It's very easy to go to many different restaurants with your children.
112
They have high chairs, the chairs for babies, little kids.
113
It's very nice, but in some places they don't have this.
114
So So, those are some of the things that are different when you travel with young children.
115
It can be hard, but I think that it's still a great experience.
116
I had a lot of fun in Europe with my children, specifically.
117
My son really liked it.
118
I think my daughter did, too.
119
I recommend traveling with children if you can.
120
It's a great experience and your children can remember this when they're older.
121
It's a great family experience.
122
So, that's something that you can think about, maybe.
123
I hope you enjoyed this video.
