1
All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.
2
You won't get to choose how long you're here.
3
You won't know how many sunrises you have left.
4
You don't get to rewind, pause or skip the hard chapters.
5
All you get is now.
6
On a random Thursday at the beginning of May, I deactivated all my social media accounts.
7
I wanted to know what a month without scrolling would do, what I could accomplish if I didn't waste a single second scrolling on these apps.
8
This thought didn't come out of nowhere for me.
9
I've actually had a stirring in my soul to do this for some time now, but this particular day, the feelings seemed to be screaming at me.
10
I hate when God has to yell at me, but sometimes he does.
11
So I logged off.
12
After I had done this, I kind of sat back like, okay, now what?
13
I know I waste time on here, but this is also my job.
14
So what am I supposed to do now?
15
And I only felt complete silence.
16
But this is where everything changed for me.
17
I was sitting in my room looking up at my desk where my vision board for 2026 sits.
18
This is something I walk by at least 10 times a day.
19
It was May and almost nothing had been crossed off.
20
And it wasn't because I lacked vision, but because my time was disappearing.
21
Hours a day spent scrolling turns into books you never read, skills you never learn, places you never go and adventures you never experience
22
so I started here this month instead of consuming everyone else's
23
life I committed to building my own I finally got to
24
the books I had sitting on my must-read list I went on a few hikes I signed up for yoga classes.
25
I learned all things filmmaking and editing, which is also a skill my twins have been wanting to learn, so they learned right alongside me.
26
I found myself going on some kind of adventure almost daily, whether it was paddle boarding, long boarding, biking, or even just a pretty walk.
27
No matter what it was, getting outside every single day became the goal.
28
This time away from my phone and completely offline taught me a few things, and this is what I wanna share with you.
29
The first being, we never had the privilege of being bored anymore.
30
Logging off that day taught me something.
31
The moment I have any kind of uncomfortable feeling, I never just sit in it.
32
Why would you when you can reach for a digital pacifier to soothe you?
33
Never giving ourselves a chance to experience boredom also prevents us from having the space to think
34
or dream or process emotions or receive inspiration.
35
Creatively, I felt like my brain was fried.
36
Imagine being a painter, and before you start painting, you scroll through a hundred paintings on your phone, and then you reach for your brush.
37
You start working on something and then wonder, why is this looking like everyone else's?
38
But what if you never saw that inspiration, and what you created was between you and the inspiration God placed in your mind?
39
Your art would stand out from everyone else's.
40
This seemed to be the lesson God was trying to teach me this month.
41
Stop being influenced by everyone else, and let me teach you how to create again in the way I want you to create.
42
as you walk down so many different chains you
43
so this actually surprised me
44
because i do feel like social media is a great place to get inspiration or to get motivated.
45
I mean, how often are we using other people's content to inspire us, right?
46
That for me is a reason that I love social media, but I'm starting to wonder if when we get into those ruts
47
or those periods of time where we are like desperate for motivation, like I can't seem to be motivated.
48
I have to be getting it from somebody else or like an outside source.
49
I feel like that's a clue that something else is going on, that maybe we're being flooded with information and it's almost like an overload,
50
the better thing to do is to actually shut it off.
51
So something that I noticed was it almost felt like I had shut a faucet off that honestly,
52
I feel like has been drowning me for the past decade since I've been on social media.
53
When I deleted the apps, it was kind of interesting to just be sitting with your own thoughts
54
and not have the constant input from other people with their content, their ideas, their videos, the trends, their advice, just complete silence.
55
They didn't realize how loud everything was until it got quiet.
56
And after a couple of days, I was like, I don't know if I ever, ever want to get back on.
57
Like right now, I don't want to.
58
It's kind of crappy though, because this is my job this is how I make income.
59
So I'm not really sure what to do about that.
60
But yeah, I think that a problem for me, at least I'm speaking for myself is I always think I need more input.
61
And that's actually the opposite of what I was needing.
62
And that was something I could have only discovered by deleting everything.
63
You know, at first when I was getting this feeling that I need to delete my apps, my first thought was, well, maybe I'll just limit my screen time.
64
Like, is this just a screen time thing am i just spending too much time on here
65
and i felt very strongly
66
that no i needed to delete them like i needed zero access
67
and now i feel like i see the reason for that
68
if i could leave you with any advice it would be let yourself be bored
69
and watch what happens watch what happens when you get bored what is happening here
70
I know social media can do a lot of good.
71
It can inspire and connect people and be very purpose-driven work.
72
But I think many of us are sleepwalking through life with a screen in our hand.
73
We say we don't have time, but our screen time says otherwise.
74
I'm not suggesting you delete yours too, but a detox every once in a while may not be such a bad idea.
75
I also wonder if maybe the life you're praying for does require your attention back.
76
Maybe your creativity is waiting on the other side of boredom.
77
And maybe your purpose is being buried under constant distraction.
78
In the last video I shared on YouTube, I said May is going to be magical.
79
And I had no idea how amazing it was about to be.
80
I crossed off over half the items on my vision board for the year, which is more than I've done in all five months combined.
81
And the only thing different I did was I set my phone down.
82
The saying goes, life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forward.
83
And looking back at this month, I think I finally understand why this feeling of deleting social media had gotten so loud for me.
84
In the moment, it's hard to understand God's reasoning.
85
We want explanations first, or we want to see the full staircase before we take the first step.
86
But usually, understanding doesn't come until after you've lived it.
87
Oftentimes, especially when creating, I'd question, are these my thoughts?
88
Is this something God is placing on my heart?
89
Or am I being influenced by what I'm seeing around me?
90
Now more than ever, the clarity is there because the outside influence is gone.
91
Not only that, I experience life in a much more meaningful way
92
because I finally removed the thing that was stealing my time.
93
And my last thought for you is this.
94
Your real life is happening right now.
95
Don't miss it.
96
There's a world of endless color Waiting for us to discover Running to the open wide But dreamers come alive
97
We can see a new horizon We can feel adventure calling Step out on the open road Into the great unknown
98
Here we go Here we go
99
Here we go
100
Here we go Here we go Oh,
101
here we go Oh, here we go
102
Ah!
103
Ah!
104
Ah!
105
Ah!
106
Put your hand in my hand, darling, say go.
107
Keep your eyes on the horizon, stay gold.
108
All I need are your eyes, you're my arrow.
109
Now we're running into the wild.
110
Ah!
