Finally, in 1885, John Kemp Starley invented the safety bicycle.

It featured two wheels of equal size, a chain drive connected to the rear wheel, and rubber tyres filled with air.

This design made cycling safe, comfortable, and accessible to everyone, including women.

Today, modern bicycles still use the basic design created by Starley.
