The process of making paper is an amazing journey that blends nature with clever engineering.

It all starts in the forest.

Trees are harvested and brought to a paper mill, where machines strip away the bark and chop the wood into tiny chips.

These chips are cooked in a large vat with chemicals and steam to break them down into a soft, mushy mixture called pulp.

Next, the pulp is cleaned, bleached white, and mixed with a lot of water.

This watery soup is sprayed onto a huge, fast-moving screen.

As the water drains away, the tiny wood fibers get trapped and tangled together, forming a giant, wet sheet of paper.

Finally, this wet sheet runs through heavy, heated rollers.

These rollers squeeze out the remaining water and flatten the paper, making it smooth and dry.

The finished paper is rolled up, cut into sizes, and shipped out, ready for you to write, draw, and learn on.
