6
Listen closely and try to repeat after us.
7
Let's get started.
8
Hey, Lily.
9
Have you tried vegetarian food in Vietnam?
10
I heard it's really popular here.
11
Oh, yes, Mark.
12
I love it.
13
In Vietnam, many people eat vegetarian for health or religion.
14
What about you?
15
I'm curious.
16
Why do people choose to eat vegetarian?
17
Is it just no meat?
18
Well, vegetarian means no meat, no fish, sometimes no eggs.
19
In Vietnam, it's often because of Buddhism.
20
Buddhists eat vegetarian to be kind to animals. That makes sense.
21
So, when do people eat vegetarian?
22
Every day?
23
Not always.
24
Many eat vegetarian on the 1st and 15th of the lunar month.
25
It's like a special day for good luck and peace.
26
Cool!
27
Where can I find vegetarian food? In restaurants?
28
Yes, there are Quan Che.
29
That's vegetarian restaurants.
30
They're everywhere in cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
31
Some markets have vegetarian stalls too.
32
How does it work?
33
Do they use fake meat or something?
34
Exactly.
35
They make fake meat from tofu, mushrooms, or beans.
36
It looks and tastes like real meat, but it's all plants.
37
That sounds interesting.
38
Is it healthy?
39
Very healthy.
40
Lots of vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
41
It helps with weight and energy.
42
No heavy fats from animals.
43
Where does this tradition come from?
44
Is it old?
45
It's from Buddhist temples.
46
Monks eat vegetarian all the time.
47
People join them on holy days.
48
So it's not just food, it's cultural?

During festivals like Vulan, everyone eats vegetarian to honor parents and ancestors.
51
Vulan?
52
What's that?
53
It's a festival in August lunar calendar.
