1
How can I make my voice sound deeper?
2
You've probably asked yourself this question because you've heard people say that a deeper voice sounds more attractive,
3
builds trust, and increases influence.
4
Now, while they're not wrong about the benefits of a deeper voice,
5
it's only one piece of the puzzle.
6
Because imagine if I spoke to you at a deep pitch like this for this entire video.
7
Kind of gross, right?
8
What truly commands attention is a voice that is distinct and dynamic.
9
And if you're new here, my name's Vin.
10
I'm a communication skills teacher and last month I recorded a private training for my community
11
and the most requested topic was What are the top three vocal exercises to get that deep dynamic sound Vin?
12
And I want you to listen closely and apply these as you're watching
13
because if you start applying and doing these three exercises each for just three minutes a day
14
Within just a few weeks you're going to notice massive improvement
15
with the quality of your voice What I'm about to share with you now are the top three vocal exercises
16
that I started with
17
when I went on my journey of Trying to improve the
18
quality of my voice Trying to improve the quality of sound
19
that I can create to sound more interesting to sound more memorable These were the top three that I did daily
20
Number one is the siren the siren is simply just doing sounds
21
that sound like a siren And you can do this with words
22
or you can do this with sound the siren technique is essentially you
23
stretching the vocal cords which creates a lot of tension
24
which allows you to achieve high-pitched voices and then you release the vocal cords.
25
You can do it with your mouth closed or you can do it with your mouth open.
26
You go up and down,
27
up and down, up and down.
28
Mouth closed, mouth open.
29
two different ways to be able to practice it.
30
You can also do it with words.
31
I'm going to start with a really low voice and then after
32
that I'm going to gradually go to a high voice and then after that I'm like,
33
I said I'm not afraid to go to the falsetto and go to the highest pitch as I possibly can.
34
And then after that I go all the way back down and I go really low and I go low,
35
deep back into the bowels of the chest and I'm not afraid to sound like Frank Sinatra.
36
And I want to remind you, think of a balloon.
37
A balloon, when you blow it up and then you let the balloon go,
38
it just goes, That's a really deep sound, right?
39
And that's what happens when you loosen your vocal cords,
40
you're able to achieve a deeper voice.
41
But then when you stretch the balloon and you release the air slowly,
42
you get a really high pitch sound.
43
What you're doing there is your tension,
44
relax, tension, relax, tension, relax.
45
What are you doing in that moment?
46
You're strengthening your vocal cords.
47
It's the equivalent of a bicep curl.
48
So the more you do that,
49
the more you strengthen your vocal cords.
50
Up and down, up and down, up and down.
51
Really explore.
52
When you're practicing, you have to push yourself to go to 150%
53
because only 70% of your practice follows through into your everyday speaking voice.
54
Play for a good three minutes with sound,
55
mouth open, mouth closed, with words,
56
and just really explore your voice.
57
Now the next activity I'm going to share with you is lip trills.
58
And lip trills is you doing this.
59
And you can just do it with one note.
60
But then play, be creative, play your favorite song.
61
One of my favorite songs I'm singing all the time to
62
my little baby daughter right now she's one is see if you can guess what song this is
63
play with the lip trills are different volumes different pitches and what does this do then?
64
Why am I doing this?
65
I think the why behind it is absolutely important.
66
The why is when you're doing lip trills,
67
you're creating vibrations with your lips.
68
You're directing the sound so that it happens around your lips.
69
What is that for?
70
It's for vocal placement.
71
You're learning where to place the voice optimally so that you can create really good sound.
72
Whereas a lot of the times people,
73
they're producing their sound from the back of their throats.
74
For some people speak with their voice in the back of their throat.
75
Sometimes people sound really nasally and when sound really nasally
76
that nasal sound like what i'm creating right now is you're
77
resonating your voice too much in your frontal mask too much
78
in your nose area one of the reasons why you may like my voice is
79
because i'm placing my voice correctly
80
and the more you start to do lip trills the more
81
you start to understand ah vocal placement you want it to
82
be right here the vocal placement happens right where your lips are that's lip trills do
83
that for three minutes before i go over the last vocal exercise,
84
I want you to realize that your voice is an instrument.
85
It is.
86
It's one of the most powerful instruments in the world.
87
And I want you to think of vocal exercises like tuning an actual instrument, like this guitar.
88
By the way, side note,
89
this guitar is a gift from one of my best friends,
90
and it's signed by four of the five Backstreet Boys.
91
I still need one more signature from Nick Carter.
92
Gotta catch em all.
93
If this guitar isn't tuned well, what happens?
94
It sounds terrible.
95
It's just like your voice if you don't tune your voice with great vocal exercises,
96
you won't produce a high quality sound.
97
The next step is, well,
98
how do you write great music?
99
What I mean by learning how to write great music is how to structure your thoughts as you speak.
100
It's what you say.
101
And if you struggle with not knowing what to say when put on the spot,
102
then you need to learn communication frameworks.
103
I've recorded a free two-hour training teaching my top communication frameworks.
104
And if you want immediate access to them,
105
all you got to do is click the link in the description
106
or the pinned comment below okay let's get back onto the final vocal exercise
107
and then the last one i'll do for three minutes is
108
this is an unusual one this is you becoming aware of
109
your soft palate you've got a region in your mouth called
110
the soft palate some people don't know where it is make sure your thumbs are clean
111
so if i take this thumb here and
112
if i start to put it underneath my teeth you'll notice
113
there's a really hard spot that's that's your hard palate and then if you run your thumb back a little bit further.
114
Don't gag.
115
So, ah, notice how you start to feel that weird slimy part.
116
When you go back and you start to feel that soft slimy part,
117
that's your soft palate.
118
Now, what we're going to learn here is we're going to learn how to open up our soft palate,
119
because when you open up your soft palate,
120
that means you create more room inside your mouth.
121
When there's more room inside your mouth,
122
you're able to create more resonance.
123
And when you've got more resonance,
124
your voice will sound louder.
125
Because I know for many of you,
126
as you're watching this, You might be thinking,
127
ah, Vin, I've got a really quiet voice.
128
I want to learn how to create a stronger sounding voice.
129
I want to have more volume.
130
And my vocal coaches just say all the time,
131
volume for free, Vin, volume for free.
132
Because the way I used to try to create volume was,
133
I strained my throat.
134
I could get more volume by doing something like this.
135
And then after I speak like that for 30 minutes,
136
my voice feels broken.
137
My throat is just in so much pain.
138
But it's because I'm paying such an expensive price there to create more volume.
139
Whereas you can get volume for free by learning how to lift that soft palate.
140
And what I want you to imagine is when you walk into a room that's really small and you go,
141
hello, the voice doesn't echo,
142
it doesn't travel, does it?
143
But when you walk into a big church that is massive and you go in there and you're like,
144
hello, hello, hello, hello.
145
There's incredible reverb and there's this beautiful echo sound bouncing off the walls,
146
moving all over the place.
147
That's because there's a massive room for your voice to travel all around.
148
that's what we're trying to create inside our vocal area the
149
more space we can create there instead of being a tiny room you're being like a big church
150
so then when you produce sound when sound travels into
151
that area now oh you're creating this beautiful resonance
152
so the way to lift the soft palate
153
and build sensitivity to how it feels when it's lifted is to yawn
154
so think about yawning right now okay so hopefully that's triggered you to yawn so when you yawn notice your soft palate.
155
So just yawn.
156
That's you lifting your soft palate.
157
Now I want you to yawn now and watch,
158
especially if you speak quietly and you don't believe you can create a really loud sound,
159
trust me, your voice is capable of a very loud sound.
160
So I want you now to yawn,
161
but do the do that, okay?
162
So we'll yawn, watch how loud your voice can get.
163
So three, two,
164
doesn't that feel great oh that feels so good but what
165
that does is hopefully it's just revealed to you that's the level of resonance
166
that you're able to achieve with your voice that's how loud you can be
167
and did
168
that strain your throat not at all that's how powerful your
169
instrument is i hope sitting there going oh damn i never realized my voice could be
170
so strong
171
and powerful often people are speaking with a lowered soft palate
172
the way you practice this is build sensitivity to how to lift the soft palate
173
so i would suggest you sit there and yawn for a good three minutes
174
and just play with it within these three activities
175
that i've just shared with you siren technique the more you practice
176
that the more you strengthen your vocal cords number two lip
177
trills that's vocal placement you're going to start placing your voice in the correct place number three yawning
178
That's going to help you open up your soft palate to create a stronger and more resonant voice.
179
Volume for free.
180
These three things, practice that daily.
181
Oh, that's going to change your voice.
182
Oh, that's going to completely,
183
wildly transform the way you come across every time you speak.
