1
Hello everyone and welcome to English Cozy Chat.
2
I am Maria and today we are in my kitchen.
3
I am very excited about today's episode because we are going to be talking about my favorite food.
4
Now, I feel like most people's favorite food is a real dish,
5
as in a meal, or something that really has to be cooked.
6
For example, pizza or a dish that their mom used to make
7
or a certain meal which is meaningful in your culture.
8
or maybe it's just a simple dish,
9
but I just feel like it's usually something like a real meal or maybe it's even a dessert.
10
Now, I love to cook.
11
I love all kinds of cuisines.
12
I love to try new foods and new dishes.
13
And there are several dishes which I absolutely love, that I love to cook,
14
and I love to eat.
15
However, there is one food which always stands at the top of my list for my favorite foods.
16
So in this episode, I am going to explain to you what my favorite food is,
17
why I like it so much, and how I like to eat it.
18
Okay, So are you all as excited to talk about my favorite food as I am?
19
Let me set you down right here.
20
Now, drum roll, please.
21
My favorite food is peanut butter.
22
Now, this is a jar of peanut butter from Spain, since I live in Spain.
23
And here, for some reason on the label,
24
they just have 100% cacahuetes, which means 100% peanuts.
25
But in English, this would be peanut butter.
26
So there are many of you watching this video that might not even know what peanut butter is.
27
Because I think it is originally more of an American food or snack.
28
But basically, all it is is peanuts,
29
which have been blended up in a blender until they are kind of liquefied
30
and smooth and form a butter or a paste.
31
Now, this is a brand spanking new.
32
That's a good phrase for you.
33
This is a brand spanking new.
34
Brand spanking new means brand new, completely new, but it's a fun way of saying it.
35
Brand spanking new.
36
Remember that one.
37
So this is a brand new jar of peanut butter.
38
And this is what it looks like.
39
It's just creamy.
40
This one is solidified.
41
Solidified means solid.
42
It's something that has been liquid and that is now solid.
43
I guess this isn't completely solid since it is a butter, but this is what it looks like.
44
Isn't it beautiful and shiny?
45
Now, some peanut butters, I'm actually going to get a knife to show it to you.
46
So some peanut butters are completely pure,
47
as in it only contains peanuts and salt.
48
Those are my favorite.
49
But there are many others that have different things in them, like palm oil or different kinds of oils,
50
stabilizers, different kinds of ingredients that are in there for,
51
I don't know why, but they are also in there.
52
but I like peanut butter when it is pure.
53
So this one, 100% cacahuetes or peanuts.
54
This is my kind of peanut butter.
55
So I'm going to show you.
56
Look at that.
57
Oh my gosh.
58
I think I just made a smiley face.
59
Oh, I messed it up.
60
Did you guys see?
61
It was like the eyes and the mouth.
62
Anyways, that's it.
63
All nice and smooth.
64
Yum.
65
This is making me really hungry.
66
I'm like smelling it.
67
So that is it.
68
And I'm going to move you guys over here.
69
So another important ingredient in peanut butter is salt.
70
I don't like peanut butter without salt.
71
I generally like to use a lot of salt when I cook.
72
Not a lot, not too much, but I really don't like bland food.
73
So I like salt.
74
I like salt in my peanut butter.
75
And another very important part of good peanut butter,
76
in my opinion, is that the peanuts are roasted.
77
Roasted or toasted.
78
I'm not really sure the difference between those words,
79
but I think They both mean that they need to be roasted or toasted in the oven.
80
And by roasting the peanuts, it gives them a much better flavor.
81
And you will know this if you have ever toasted seeds or roasted nuts and used them in your cooking,
82
but it makes a big difference in the taste of the peanut butter.
83
So, for me, that's the most important part.
84
Roasted peanuts and salt.
85
And that's it.
86
No more ingredients.
87
And you end up with this beauty.
88
So I have tried to make peanut butter on my own a few times and it has not come out right.
89
I have a problem with the roasting part.
90
It's hard for me to roast them enough without burning them.
91
It can be a little bit difficult.
92
There's been times I didn't roast them enough and the peanut butter didn't taste good.
93
And then other times where I accidentally kind of burnt them.
94
And I think when I burnt them,
95
I didn't even try to make peanut butter because burnt peanut peanut butter would just not be very good.
96
Now, on to the reasons why I love peanut butter.
97
Number one is I'm lazy.
98
I'm a really lazy person in some ways.
99
Not in all ways, but sometimes I am kind of lazy and I want to eat,
100
but I don't feel like making anything special or that will take me lots of time.
101
Or sometimes I just want a quick snack and I want to get full quickly.
102
And in all of those cases, or many of those cases, I will reach for my friend right here, this guy.
103
So the reason why I like it is because you can eat peanut butter in many ways.
104
But the most typical way that you eat it is spreading it on something.
105
That may be a piece of bread.
106
That may be a piece of toast, which is just bread that has been toasted.
107
You may put it on a cracker.
108
You could put it on banana, which is delicious.
109
Banana-peanut butter combination is amazing.
110
Or you could eat it by itself.
111
Sometimes when I am hungry and lazy feeling, I just come in the kitchen,
112
grab a little stone, and just eat it like this.
113
it's actually kind of sticky maybe it wasn't a good idea to just put some in my mouth
114
while I'm filming so I'm going to drink some water so
115
that is a very easy way that I eat it most people probably do not eat peanut butter plain
116
But I do know everyone in my family does.
117
So that's another good thing about peanut butter is it fills you up very quickly.
118
It's very satisfying because what are the ingredients?
119
Peanuts.
120
And that's it.
121
And peanuts have a lot of fat in them, but they have healthy fats, which is very good.
122
And it fills you up quickly. And it's healthy.
123
It has healthy fats.
124
So I find both of those things very important.
125
And with just a little bit of peanut butter,
126
you can feel full over a long time.
127
So we've gone over two reasons so far why I love peanut butter.
128
One is that I'm lazy.
129
Two is that it fills me up quickly.
130
And another reason why I love it is it reminds me of my childhood.
131
This is a nostalgic food for me.
132
And nostalgic means to remind you of something in your past in a positive way.
133
So whenever I eat peanut butter, it gives me memories of my childhood.
134
because when I was a kid, I can't tell you how many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which we'll get to that later.
135
I can't tell you how many of these I ate when I was a kid.
136
And in the United States, kids in general eat a lot of peanut butter jelly.
137
Even now when I give peanut butter or make a peanut butter jelly sandwich for my kids,
138
it makes me feel really good.
139
Like I'm giving them something that I used to get when I was a kid.
140
And for some reason, this just gives you a happy feeling.
141
For any of you that have kids, I know you'll be able to relate to me on this he'll say,
142
oh, I know what you mean.
143
Just the other day, my husband made an apple schäule, which I made actually in my New Year's episode,
144
which is basically apple juice and sparkling water.
145
But he made this for our kids, and he used to drink this as a little kid.
146
And I could just see the smile on his face.
147
And he's always like that when he gives this drink to my kids.
148
And I was like, that makes you really happy, doesn't it?
149
Because that's what you used to drink as a kid.
150
He was like, yeah, I guess you're right.
151
So peanut butter just brings me back.
152
Just brings me back.
153
That's another phrase you would say, like if something reminds you of something in the past,
154
you could say, yeah, it brings me back just because in your mind, you're like going back to that place that you're remembering.
155
Another great benefit about peanut butter is it's cheap.
156
I think this is like 250 or 3 euros maybe 3 euros it's pretty cheap
157
and there are some peanut butters which are more gourmet
158
which are fancy in certain ways
159
but I like usually the cheaper versions as long as they are just peanut butter and salt.
160
For me, those are the best.
161
But then again, those are the ones that I ate when I was little.
162
So maybe that's why I think they're the best.
163
All right, you guys.
164
So now I'm going to present to you a peanut butter jelly sandwich.
165
Okay.
166
I hope you are all excited and holding on to the edge of your seat.
167
Now, holding on to the edge of your seat means like you're really excited about something or you're nervous or you're like,
168
oh, what is it?
169
what is a peanut butter jelly sandwich?
170
Just wait, everybody.
171
I'm going to show you.
172
Okay.
173
So be patient.
174
Okay.
175
So I have one of my ingredients here, which is cred.
176
Have to go get the rest.
177
Now got some, you guessed it, jelly.
178
Got some jelly.
179
And of course I have
180
you know what it is peanut butter
181
so this is a three ingredient dish right got it all
182
prepared right here I guess I gotta really show you guys I gotta I gotta position my camera
183
so you can see the amazingness that's about to happen okay here we go this is good all right
184
So basically all you do.
185
Also, as far as the type of bread that we use.
186
Now I do have some bread.
187
Actually, hold on.
188
I do actually have some bread out that I made.
189
This is half of a loaf that I made.
190
I actually, we ate some of it here, but this is some of my homemade bread that I made.
191
And one day I'm going to do an episode on how I make bread.
192
But this is homemade bread that I have, which is delicious.
193
And but for the peanut butter jelly,
194
the kind of bread that you really need is just the good old slices.
195
This is this is tradition.
196
this this is the key to a good peanut butter jelly
197
it's just just the good old sliced loafed in a package type of bread actually I take
198
that back I could make bread like this but I haven't tried yet
199
so maybe I'm able to make my own bread and make a peanut butter jelly with that but for now, I just use good faith,
200
old faithful, old faithful, meaning like, you know, the stuff that you know is always good.
201
This kind of bread is old faithful when making a peanut butter jelly.
202
So got my bread.
203
And all I'm going to do here is,
204
y'all excited i am just going to spread the peanut butter on both sides of my bread
205
isn't
206
that beautiful you guys let let me let me get in
207
the light can i get a good shot of my peanut
208
butter being spread you guys are probably like why is she so excited about this well I just am.
209
I just am.
210
So here we go.
211
Got one side done.
212
Now, there's a couple different peanut butter jelly recipes out there.
213
Okay.
214
So my favorite is peanut butter on both sides and jelly in the middle.
215
But some people do peanut butter on this side, jelly on this side, and that's it.
216
But there's a reason that I like the peanut butter on both sides.
217
And that is because one, there's more peanut butter on there.
218
And I love that too.
219
It helps the bread not get soggy with the jelly because the jelly kind of has water in it, you know?
220
So, that is why we're spreading it out here.
221
And doing it this way.
222
Alright guys, so we have the first part of our sandwich done.
223
we have peanut butter over here, peanut butter over here on this side of the bread.
224
Now we got to put on the jelly.
225
So one important thing
226
that you should never do is put the peanut butter knife in the jelly
227
because then you get little peanut butter marks all in the jelly.
228
And that's not good Because if you want to eat jelly without peanut butter,
229
you don't really want peanut butter in there.
230
So here we go.
231
Oh, that's a good shot of the jelly.
232
Looking good.
233
Here's our jelly.
234
People also call this marmalade.
235
I'm not sure is the difference, but I like calling it jelly.
236
So we stir it up.
237
Important.
238
Do a little stir.
239
and just put some, I'll show you guys how I'm doing this, just put jelly on there.
240
Here we go.
241
So, the good thing about peanut butter jelly is the peanut butter is kind of salty,
242
and the jelly is sweet.
243
So it goes really well together.
244
I think I want a little bit more jelly.
245
And that, that's when you have a dilemma, right?
246
Because you're like, oh, this already has a little bit of peanut butter on there.
247
I think, you know what?
248
I think I can do it.
249
I'm going to do this to get the peanut, you get a little bit of the peanut butter off.
250
So I'm not, you know, getting any in there.
251
I can get a little bit more jelly on there.
252
All right.
253
Here we go.
254
And then the grand finale,
255
you put the other piece of the bread.
256
Boom.
257
There you go.
258
You got it.
259
Peanut butter jelly.
260
And here, I got to cut it.
261
and also I always cut it diagonally diagonally means like you know like not not straight like this
262
because that's how my mom used to cut it
263
and that's just I it tastes better when it's cut like
264
that so look you guys can can I get a good shot of the peanut butter jelly look at
265
that beauty yeah I don't know
266
if I can um there we go you get the gist
267
so how does it look so I almost forgot a very important fun part of
268
peanut butter jelly and it is this song
269
that is on YouTube I'm gonna link it I'm gonna show you guys what it is
270
but it's called it's peanut butter jelly time
271
and it's just a banana singing it's peanut butter jelly time it is the best
272
so that is it you guys like I love that song
273
and it was funny I told my husband I'm like yeah
274
I'm gonna talk about my favorite food like being peanut butter
275
he was like you have to play the peanut butter jelly song like
276
when we make peanut butter jelly for my kids like we like putting on this song
277
and they like they love dancing to it it's just the best.
278
I'm like, who thought up this banana singing it's peanut butter jelly time and these lyrics,
279
which is like, it's peanut butter jelly.
280
He sings, he sings, it's peanut butter jelly time, peanut butter jelly time.
281
Hey, yeah, hey, yeah.
282
Peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly in a baseball bat.
283
Peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly in a baseball bat.
284
Like who thought of that?
285
But it's such a hit.
286
It's like, I love that song so much.
287
Anyways.
288
So another thing is a lot of people in Europe, this is kind of interesting.
289
So a lot of people in Europe, I've noticed, think that peanut butter is kind of weird
290
and they kind of make fun of the Americans for loving peanut butter jelly
291
or for loving peanut butter and peanut butter jelly.
292
And my husband used to be one of those.
293
He would always make fun of me for eating peanut butter.
294
And then he started really liking it.
295
and now we like find him in the kitchen, like making a peanut butter jelly.
296
I'm like, oh yeah, look at you now.
297
He's like, yeah, it actually is really good because once you start eating it, you're like, oh, this is good.
298
This is convenient.
299
This is easy.
300
And you start liking it, right?
301
So once you try it, you'll be hooked you guys.
302
And that's it.
303
Now I have my lunch ready
304
and I have to take a bite see
305
if I like it you know
306
but one thing you kind of want to always try to
307
eat it from the side one thing the first thing you do you have to lick off those
308
you have to lick the jelly off because you don't want it to be falling off so
309
then you just take it you just eat it
310
there you go I'm actually going to pour a glass of milk because
311
peanut butter jelly and milk is a great combination because like I said, peanut butter is really sticky and the milk helps it all go down.
312
All right, you guys.
313
So what did you think of my favorite food?
314
Do you like peanut butter?
315
Is there anything like that that you enjoy?
316
Or what is your favorite food?
317
I would love to know, let me know in the comments.
318
Thank you all so much for watching.
319
I hope you have a wonderful day and I cannot wait to see you in the next episode.
320
Bye!

Was du lernst

Perfekt fürs Englisch sprechen üben in Alltagssituationen!

Höre auf diese Klänge

Achte auf verbundene Sprache: In Sätzen wie "I love to cook" hört man fast kein "t" in "to" – es klingt wie "I love uh cook".
