In ancient times, few cultures believed the Earth to be flat.

But as time progressed, many pieces of evidence, such as the Earth's horizon,

its circular shadow on the moon during a lunar eclipse, and countless photos and videos taken from space,

have helped us clear any doubts regarding its spherical shape.

But just for fun, let us squeeze our planet and see what would have happened if it was actually flat.

Well, first and foremost, the flat Earth wouldn't have remained flat for long,

as within a few hours the force of gravity would press the planet back into spherical form.

That's because as we know, gravity pulls things from the equal side,

hence all the planets are sculpted in spheroidal shapes.

So, for a planet to remain in a flat disk shape, gravity needs to be absent.

And, no gravity means, flat Earth would no longer be able to hold on to the layer of gases called the atmosphere.

As a result, as we discussed in our video, what if the Earth lost its atmosphere?

this protective blanket, our skies will turn dark, the Earth's temperature will drop and worse.

There will be no oxygen left, leading to the extinction of every living species.

But fortunately, there will be some hope as gravity won't completely vanish, but will will be present right in the middle.

As a result, the further you walk away from the center, the more difficult it will get to move forward,

as gravity will begin to pull you backward.

Likewise, the objects won't fall downwards, but sideways, toward the point of strongest gravitational pull.

Even water in rivers and seas would flow towards the Arctic at the center.

As a result, vast bulging oceans would collect in the middle, leaving practically no water at the edges.

But more than water, the bigger concern will be the air, as gravity will pull it at the center too.

And no air pressure means not enough oxygen to breathe.
