Shadowing Practice: iPhone 18 Pro vs Osmo Pocket 4P - Watch Before you Buy!! - Learn English Speaking with Video

Creando lección...
1
There's a two -part process to every story you create.
2
There's the hunter -gatherer part where you go out
3
and collect your shots that help you tell the story and then there's putting everything together in post -production.
4
Now I don't know which one is more important but I do know which one I love the most.
5
The final shot.
6
This is the iPhone 18 Pro and this is the Osmo Pocket 4P.
7
And this has got to be one of my favorite comparisons lately.
8
This is not a sponsored video, I bought both cameras with my own money, both Apple and DJI did not send me these either.
9
Also, nothing in this video was created using AI, not even the thumbnail.
10
People are wondering whether it makes sense to buy a dedicated pocket camera like this
11
when they already carry a pretty capable camera in their pocket everywhere they go.
12
So let's unpack that question.
13
First, see if you can guess which camera is which while I tell you a little bit about both.
14
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1 ,199 US.
15
It has a more versatile camera system overall.
16
It's got three cameras on the back, a 13mm ultra -wide, a 24mm main, and that also has a variable aperture, and a 100mm 4x telephoto.
17
The Pocket 4P right now is selling for about $550 - $650 US, depending on where you get it from.
18
And it is more of a video -focused camera.
19
It uses a 1 -inch main sensor with a 20mm equivalent lens, plus a separate 60mm equivalent 3x telephoto.
20
And if you wanted to use full manual exposure control on the iPhone, including ISO, so then I would absolutely download the Blackmagic camera app.
21
By the way, I left some free project files in the description
22
if you want to download some of the footage that I got with both of these cameras.
23
That way, you can edit the footage as you follow along.
24
Now, if you decide to pick up the Pocket 4P, I created a comprehensive course on how to use it, set it up from scratch, and go out and get amazing cinematic shots with it.
25
Also, I created film look luts for both of these cameras.
26
I'll leave links to those products in the description.
27
All right, are you ready?
28
Let's go.
29
the iphone 18 pro was camera a and the pocket 4p was camera b
30
if you knew which one was
31
which please let me know how you knew now the first
32
shot of the day we're looking at this 4k 120 shot
33
notice how the osmo pocket 4p looks a little bit more saturated than the 18 pro
34
but that's not what we're going to be focusing on for
35
this particular shot the 18 pro looks way more realistic here in my opinion
36
and the whole mushroom is in focus top to bottom front to back
37
and that's the variable aperture doing a lot of
38
that work now with the 4p my aperture is set in place
39
so the stem is very sharp but look at the front of the cap of
40
that mushroom it's all out of focus the 18 pro is definitely the one
41
that i would use for a shot like this now let's
42
flip both cameras over to their log profiles the right side is the flat log footage
43
and the left i graded with my generation slip pack right now what you're seeing is
44
that flat log footage we got apple log 2 with the 18 pro and D -Log 2 with the Pocket 4P.
45
Both cameras look fantastic in my opinion.
46
With the 18 Pro, the sky holds onto those clouds, the graffiti colors come right back, and there's a lot of detail in that wall.
47
I just love the overall look of this shot.
48
And with the 4P, the colors land in about the same place, but in real -world shooting situations, I would go with the 18 Pro if I was shooting in log.
49
Now, that was in a well -lit environment, but what happens when we're in a lower -lit environment like this?
50
I think both log profiles have a lot of dynamic range.
51
With the 18 Pro, I don't know the exact amount, but i'm able to push and pull the shadows and push
52
that saturation to get pretty much the color
53
that i was going for the packet 4p same thing here
54
i feel like i have a little bit less noise in those shadows
55
but i am restricted to only using the one times camera
56
when i'm shooting d -log too that could be a potential problem
57
but most people aren't shooting in log anyways
58
so let's look at the shots that most people get in the standard color profile
59
and i think
60
that happens to be skin tone with the 18 pro there's
61
no doubt about it it's pretty much oversaturates my skin tone just like every single iPhone
62
that I have shot with before it.
63
Not sure why they still haven't fixed that issue yet.
64
Now with the 4P, it absolutely looks better in my opinion.
65
My skin tone looks a lot more realistic and it looks more natural.
66
Here's another angle of a talking head shot where I'm getting more of
67
that upper torso and you can see that oversaturation happening again with the 18 Pro.
68
Now I was curious on which version of iPhone was going to fix this.
69
I thought it was going to be the 18 Pro, but I guess it's not.
70
4P, I think the skin tones look great.
71
I probably should have shot this particular shot, though, in the three times camera to give my headshot more of a natural look.
72
But it's not just the skin tone that gets oversaturated.
73
Going through all of these comparisons, I started to notice pretty much the same exact thing.
74
And look at what happens when I shoot the sun this low in the sky.
75
That orange is pushed up way too far.
76
And just look at that ugly flare out of the iPhone.
77
With the 4P, it still holds onto that color.
78
It's pretty solid color.
79
And the sky looks right to me.
80
The trees stay clean with that silhouette look.
81
Now we're going to switch gears to low light because I want to show you this turn of events that I noticed.
82
The 18 Pro gives me a better looking talking head, at least in this particular low light environment.
83
I'm shooting on the one -times camera with both of these, by the way.
84
I'm not sure why that would be.
85
The 4P, on the other hand, some of those skin tones start to look a little bit more blotchy, and it just doesn't have that realistic, natural look that we were seeing when we were in a well -lit environment.
86
But if I'm just shooting some travel -type shots like this, I really couldn't tell the difference between these two other than their stabilization.
87
But side -by -side, if we're only looking at colors, the 18 Pro lifts up those mid -tones.
88
The whole place looks a little bit more brighter.
89
Kind of just looks like it was shot on a phone.
90
Whereas with the 4P, it holds on to those deeper colors.
91
It gives it more contrast for my taste that's what I
92
prefer now in this low light shot there's a couple of things going on just look at
93
that coke sign first watch all the shadows around it with
94
the 18 pro I was exposing both cameras the same by
95
the way it looks a little bit more overexposed on
96
that coke sign but the mid -tones are being lifted
97
so you can see more of my shirt and the hat
98
and anything that's in
99
that mid -tone range with the 4p I think it actually looks better here
100
because it looks more realistic there's more contrast and the reason why is
101
because it doesn't lift up those mid -tones like we were seeing with the iPhone, which gives it more of a movie look, in my opinion.
102
Now, when we get into extreme darkness like this with just one light source, it's really gonna show us how both sensors deal with noise.
103
The 18 Pro at one time looks decent from far away, but once we did that zoom in, the trees turn into mush, and the noise all around that light just doesn't look very good at all.
104
With the 4P, same kind of thing, looks great from far away, but once we zoom in, you can really start to see noise, and I don't think either one of these two cameras do very well in extreme darkness.
105
Some of those splotchy spots that we were seeing in the light might be from the camera glass lens itself.
106
So I walked right up to that light and I wanted to see how they both look.
107
The 18 Pro definitely looks more smeared to my eye.
108
I don't really like how the light rolls off that glass.
109
And also just look at that green ghost flare that kind of moves all around.
110
The Pocket 4P, the flare holds together a lot more around the light, almost like a real camera lens.
111
It separates those different color flares a lot better and I prefer that look.
112
Now we haven't been able to talk about stabilization yet, but this is a very good shot to talk about it
113
because low light is where stabilization usually starts to fall apart with the 18 pro
114
and the reason i say that is because this camera uses electronic stabilization
115
so everything is being smoothed out in software and that means
116
that it has to work a lot harder
117
and you also see a lot of artifacts with
118
that now with the 4p it has a mechanical gimbal
119
so the camera itself is physically staying level the whole time
120
so it's not affected by any internal software that's trying to stabilize the footage
121
and that's one of the main benefits of having the pocket 4p the mechanical gimbal head.
122
Now, when I have a little bit more light to work with, stabilization definitely improves with the 18 Pro, but I still prefer the 4P.
123
And the same thing here, even in this really well -lit environment, I think the 4P wins on stabilization, although this could be a little bit of user error as I age.
124
With the 18 Pro, I may have overexposed this shot a little bit.
125
It doesn't really help, but even with that, it just doesn't give me that same exact smooth look that you get with the 4P.
126
Now, with the 4P, don't forget, it does have a wider field of view generally a wider
127
field of view is going to give you a smoother look with all
128
that being said
129
that was all video now let's talk about photography for a
130
couple of different shots the 18 pro has a 48 megapixel sensor
131
and the 4p has a 37 ish megapixel sensor
132
when you're shooting in a well lit environment like this you're not really going to tell the difference
133
so what i'm really looking for with photos in both of these cameras isn't really the sharpness
134
or the megapixel it's more about the color difference
135
and you can see here with this boardwalk shot what i'm talking about The 18 Pro is more saturated here.
136
It has a little bit of an almost yellow tint to it.
137
Just look at the wood on the railing and the boards on the walkway, and then also look how those mid -tones get lifted.
138
With the 4P, I think the colors look more realistic, more cinematic.
139
There's more contrast.
140
I just like the overall look of this shot better with the 4P.
141
But when I get into a situation like this, where I think I was even being backlit, a lot of that color in the frame with the 4P starts to drown out.
142
I actually ended up liking the 18 Pro better for this shot.
143
You can see it lifts up those mid -tones
144
and we do have some computational photography going on but overall the shot just looks better.
145
Now with the 4p we get more saturation and more contrast
146
and in this shot I mean I like it but it just comes out a little too digital for my liking.
147
If I tried to raise the exposure in post -production it would blow out that sky.
148
Now let's get back to that boardwalk and let's just say you're a travel vlogger.
149
The color difference that we were seeing with photography also carries over to video.
150
With the 18 Pro you can see
151
that we've got those mid -tones lifted again
152
so the whole frame looks a lot brighter especially
153
that walkway in the sky and with the 4p you get more contrast just look at
154
that railing and those clouds
155
and to me it just looks a lot more like a movie
156
and with the foliage i'm kind of thinking the same thing i like the way
157
that the 4p looks better overall the 18 pro it kind of gives you the lime green look
158
and it just mushes all of
159
that foliage together i don't know i just don't like the way that looks
160
but with the 4p it looks a lot more realistic i wouldn't say it looks like a movie
161
but it definitely gives us more realistic looking colors.
162
Now for a shot like this, this is at the crack of dawn.
163
It really comes down to what your preference is.
164
The 18 Pro does do a very good job here.
165
You get almost like an orange sherbet type of sky
166
and it holds on to a lot more of that road
167
and the grass in the foreground
168
and with the 4p it gives you more of a purple gradient up at top there
169
and it keeps the trees darker
170
so it feels a little bit more like early morning
171
and you'll also see what i'm talking about here
172
when we talk about this color difference
173
that we were seeing with the foliage shot the 18 pro you get
174
that same lime green type of look in the trees as
175
i'm driving by just look at the ones on the right side
176
and with the 4p the greens are darker there's more contrast
177
so the trees look a lot more realistic for my taste
178
i prefer the pocket 4p for driving shots now i have
179
talked about how the 18 pro lifts up mid -tones
180
which i can't really control A lot of times it's not an issue, but here it is.
181
With the 18 Pro, just look at the pavement.
182
There is such a big reflection on that.
183
It almost pushes the whole bottom of the frame into overexposure territory.
184
Whereas with the 4P, it's able to hold onto that darker look on the pavement.
185
And to me, that gives an overall more realistic looking frame.
186
So what are we to make of all this?
187
I always wondered if the iPhone was gonna come out and fix a lot of the issues that previous iPhones had.
188
And maybe in some regard it has, you know, when you're shooting like
189
that mushroom shot i don't think i could have got
190
that same exact shot same exact looking shot in the past with previous iphones
191
but skin tones are still an issue it doesn't really have
192
that much of a change as i was hoping for
193
and after using it in like all these different real world scenarios
194
and putting it onto my actual editor
195
and looking at the shots i'd say it's like not too exciting of an upgrade with
196
that being said the 18 pro is not a bad phone at all it's got a great camera
197
if you're on a budget i would recommend for you to pick up the pocket 4p
198
and maybe like the 17 pro or 16 pro as your beat cam instead of going all in with the 18 Pro.
199
The variable aperture is great
200
but you do need an ND filter to try to stop down especially
201
when you're in a brighter environment so it's just one extra thing that you'll have to bring.
202
The one thing that I do love is being able to control the aperture.
203
That gives me a little bit more creative freedom.
204
Now before you go I want to tell you about my talking head course
