Time is flying, and I hope you're feeling more confident with your English every single day.
8
Fizu, how are you feeling today?
9
Are you ready for another exciting lesson?
10
Yes!
11
Hi Masu!
12
Hi everyone!
13
Yes, I'm feeling good.
14
Actually, I'm really excited because yesterday I learned so many useful things.
15
Today I want to learn more.
16
That's wonderful to hear, Fizu!
17
Your energy is amazing!
18
You know what?
19
Today we're going to practice two really practical situations that happen in real life all the time.
20
First, we'll learn how to ask for help at a self-checkout machine in a supermarket.
21
You know, those machines where you scan your items yourself?
22
Oh, yes, I know those machines.
23
Sometimes they are, um, they make me confused.
24
Ah, good try.
25
We say, they confuse me or they make me confused.
26
Can you try again?
27
Oh, they confuse me.
28
Perfect.
29
Yes, those machines can definitely confuse people sometimes.
30
And our second situation today is talking to a swimming coach at a sports center.
31
Maybe you want to join a swimming class, or maybe you need some advice about swimming.
32
We'll practice that conversation, too.
33
That sounds very useful, Masu.
34
I actually want to learn swimming, so this is perfect for me.
35
Excellent!
36
I love how these lessons connect to real life.

41
Fizu, you're subscribed, right?
42
Yes, of course.
43
I never miss any episode.
44
That's the spirit.
45
All right, everyone, let's dive into today's lesson and make day six absolutely incredible.
46
So, Fizu, let me ask you something.
47
Have you ever used a self-checkout machine at a supermarket?
48
Yes, I have used it one time.
49
But it was, um, difficult?
50
The machine was talking to me, but I don't understand what it say.
51
Good try.
52
Let me help you with that sentence.
53
We should say, I didn't understand what it said, past tense.
54
Can you repeat that?
55
I didn't understand what it said.
56
Excellent.
57
Much better.
58
So, the machine was speaking English and you didn't understand.
59
That's actually very common.
60
Self-checkout machines use specific phrases, and if you're not familiar with them, it can feel confusing.
61
But don't worry.
62
Today you're going to learn exactly what to say when you need help.
63
That's good.
64
Because sometimes I feel, um, how do you say, like I want to ask help, but I'm shy?
65
Ah, I understand.
66
You feel shy or maybe a little embarrassed to ask for help.
67
Yes, embarrassed.
68
That's the word.
69
That's completely normal, Fizu.
70
But here's the thing.
71
Asking for help is actually very smart and very normal.
72
Everyone needs help sometimes, especially with technology.
73
There's absolutely nothing to feel embarrassed about.
74
And today, you're going to learn simple, polite phrases that will make asking for help super easy.
75
Okay, I'm ready to learn.
76
Perfect.
77
Now let me ask you another question.
78
Do you like swimming?
79
Yes, I like swimming.
80
But I'm not good at it.
81
I can swim a little bit, but not, um, not professional?
82
Great!
83
We can say, I'm not a strong swimmer, or I'm not very good at swimming.
84
So if you want to improve your swimming, what would you do?
85
Um, I will, I will find a teacher.
86
Exactly.
87
You would find a swimming coach or join a swimming class.
88
And that's our second situation today.
89
We'll practice how to talk to a swimming coach, how to ask questions, and how to understand their answers.
90
This is going to be really useful for you.
91
Yes.
92
I want to learn this because next month I want to join swimming class in my city.
93
That's fantastic, Fizu!
94
See how these conversations are helping you express your real thoughts and feelings in English?
95
That's exactly what we want.
96
You're not just learning sentences, you're learning how to communicate about your real life.
97
Okay, now let's dive deep into our real-life situation roleplays.
98
Okay, Fizu, imagine this situation.
99
You're at a and you decided to use the self-checkout machine because the regular checkout lines are very long.
100
You start scanning your items, but suddenly the machine stops working.
101
There's an error message on the screen.
102
What would you do?
103
Um, I think I will...
104
I will look for someone to help me.
105
Exactly.
106
You would look for a staff member.
107
Now, when you see a staff member, what's the first thing you should say?
108
Um, hello?
109
I have problem?
110
Good start, but let's make it more polite and natural.
111
We usually say, excuse me, I'm having a problem with this machine, or excuse me, could you help me please?
112
Try saying that.
113
Excuse me, could you help me please?
114
Perfect.
115
That's very polite and natural.
116
Now the staff member will probably say, of course, what seems to be the problem, or sure, what's wrong?
117
How would you explain the problem?
118
Um, I can say the machine is not working.
119
Yes, that's correct.
120
You could say, the machine is not working, or the machine stopped working, or even, it's showing an error message.
121
All of these are good.
122
Now, Fizu, let me ask you, what if the machine says, unexpected item in the bagging area?
123
Do you know what that means?
124
Um, unexpected item.
125
I think maybe there is something wrong in the bag?
126
Exactly right.
127
That means the machine detected something in your bag that it didn't scan, maybe the weight is different from what it expected.
128
This is a very common error message, so you could tell the staff member it says unexpected item in the bagging area, and they will fix it for you.
129
Oh, that's very useful.
130
So I just need to read what the machine says and tell the staff member?
131
Exactly.
132
Just read the message and tell them.
133
You don't need to understand exactly what it means.
134
The staff member will know.
135
Good thinking, Fizu.
136
Thank you, Masu.
137
Now let's talk about the swimming coach situation.
138
Imagine you walk into a sports center and you want to join a swimming class.
139
You see the swimming coach standing near the pool.
140
What's the first thing you should say?
141
Um, hello, I want to learn swimming.
142
Good, that's clear and direct.
143
We could also say, hello, I'm interested in taking swimming lessons, or hi, I'd like to join a swimming class.
144
Let's try that second one.
145
Repeat after me.
146
I'm interested in taking swimming lessons.
147
I'm interested in taking swimming lessons.
148
Excellent!
149
Now the coach might ask you, what's your current swimming level?
150
Or, how well can you swim?
151
How would you answer if you're a beginner?
152
I would say, um, I'm a beginner?
153
Almost.
154
We say, I'm a beginner with the article A before beginner.
155
Try again.
156
I'm a beginner.
157
Perfect.
158
You could also say, I can swim a little, but I'm not very good, or I'm not a strong swimmer.
159
All of these answers are natural and honest.
160
The coach needs to know your level so they can help you properly.
161
I understand.
162
So being honest is important.
163
Absolutely.
164
Being honest about your level helps the coach create the right program for you.
165
Now, the coach might ask, what are your goals, or what do you want to achieve?
166
Fizu, if someone asked you that question about swimming, how would you answer?
167
Um, I want to, I want to swim well.
168
Good try.
169
We say, I want to swim well.
170
We use the adverb well here, not the adjective good.
171
Can you say it correctly?
172
I want to swim well.
173
Excellent.
174
You could also say, I want to improve my swimming technique, or I want to build my confidence in the water, or I'd like to swim for fitness.
175
These are all great answers.
176
Oh, I like that last one.
177
I'd like to swim for fitness.
178
That's my real goal.
179
Perfect, Fizu.
180
See how these conversations are helping you express your real thoughts and feelings in English?
181
That's exactly what we want.
182
You're not just learning sentences, you're learning how to communicate about your real life.
183
Okay, now let's dive deep into our real-life situation roleplays.
184
All right, everyone.
185
Now we're going to do a detailed roleplay.
186
This is situation one.
187
Fizu, you are at a supermarket using a self-checkout machine.
188
You've scanned most of your items, but suddenly the machine freezes and shows an error message.
189
I'll be the store staff member.
190
You need to ask me for help.
191
Are you ready?
192
Yes, I'm ready.
193
Let me try.
194
Great!
195
Remember to be polite and clear.
196
Okay, I'm standing nearby and you come to me.
197
Go ahead.
198
Um, hello?
199
I have a problem?
200
Good start, but remember we practiced a more polite way.
201
Try using excuse me first.
202
Oh, yes.
203
Excuse me?
204
Could you help me, please? Of course.
205
What seems to be the problem?
206
The machine is, um, the machine stopped working.
207
It's not working now.
208
No problem.
209
Let me take a look.
210
Oh, I see there's an error message here.
211
It says, please wait for assistance.
212
Did you scan all your items?
213
Yes, I scanned all items, but then it just stopped.
214
Okay, let me check the system.
215
Sometimes the machine needs to verify certain items.
216
Did you buy any alcohol or any age-restricted items?
217
Um, age-restricted?
218
What is this meaning?
219
Good question.
220
Let me step out of the roleplay for a moment.
221
Age-restricted items means items that only adults can buy, like alcohol, cigarettes, or certain medicines.
222
In the roleplay, let's say you bought some wine, okay?
223
Okay, I understand now.
224
So I can answer, yes, I bought wine.
225
Perfect.
226
Let's continue.
227
As the staff member, yes, I bought wine.
228
Wait, I should say that.
229
Yes, I bought wine.
230
Ah, that's why the machine stopped.
231
For alcohol, we need to verify your age.
232
Can I see your ID, please?
233
Oh, yes.
234
Here is my ID.
235
Thank you.
236
You're all set.
237
The machine should work now.
238
Just tap Continue on the screen and you can complete your payment.
239
Okay.
240
Thank you very much for your help.
241
You're very welcome.
242
Have a great day.
243
You too.
244
Excellent work, Fizu.
245
That was a really natural conversation.
246
Now let me ask you, what if the problem was different?
247
What if the machine said unexpected item in the bagging area?
248
How would you tell the staff member?
249
Um, I would say the machine says unexpected item in the bagging area and I don't know what to do?
250
Perfect.
251
Exactly right.
252
Let's practice that scenario quickly.
253
I'll be the staff member again.
254
You come to me with this problem.
255
Go.
256
Excuse me, could you help me?
257
The machine says unexpected item in the bagging area and I don't know what to do.
258
No worries.
259
This happens all the time.
260
Let me clear that for you.
261
Did you place your own shopping bag in the bagging area before you started scanning?
262
Um, yes.
263
I put my bag there.
264
Is that wrong?
265
That's the problem.
266
The machine detected the weight of your bag and got confused.
267
Next time, wait until you finish scanning all items, then put your bag down.
268
But don't worry, I'll fix it for you now.
269
There, it's cleared.
270
You can continue now.
271
Oh, thank you.
272
Now I know for next time.
273
You're welcome.
274
Just press continue and finish your payment.
275
Thank you so much.
276
Beautiful, Fizu.
277
That was excellent.
278
Now let me teach you some key phrases for this situation.
279
Listen carefully.
280
Key phrases for self-checkout problems.
281
Excuse me, could you help me with this machine?
282
The machine stopped working.
283
It's showing an error message.
284
I don't know what to do.
285
Thank you for your help.
286
Fizu, can you repeat all five phrases?
287
Yes.
288
Excuse me, could you help me with this machine?
289
The machine stopped working.
290
It's showing an error message.
291
I don't know what to do.
292
Thank you for your help.
293
Perfect.
294
These five phrases will help you in almost any self-checkout problem situation.
295
Now, let's move to our second situation.
296
All right, situation two.
297
Fizu, you walk into a sports center because you want to join swimming classes.
298
I'm the swimming coach.
299
You see me near the pool, and you want to ask me about lessons.
300
Ready?
301
Yes, I'm ready.
302
Great.
303
Come and talk to me.
304
Go ahead.
305
Hello.
306
Um, I want to, I want to join swimming class.
307
Good start.
308
But remember we practiced I'm interested in taking swimming lessons.
309
Try that.
310
Oh, yes.
311
Hello.
312
I'm interested in taking swimming lessons.
313
Hi there.
314
That's great.
315
Welcome to our sports center.
316
What's your name?
317
My name is Fizu.
318
Nice to meet you, Fizu.
319
I'm Coach Mike.
320
So tell me, what's your current swimming level?
321
Are you a complete beginner, or do you have some experience?
322
I'm a beginner.
323
I can swim a little bit, but I'm not...
324
I'm not strong swimmer.
325
Close.
326
Say, I'm not a strong swimmer with the article A.
327
I'm not a strong swimmer.
328
That's perfectly fine.
329
We have classes for all levels.
330
What made you interested in learning to swim?
331
Um, I want to swim for fitness, and also I want to feel more, um, how do you say more comfortable in water?
332
That's excellent.
333
So you want to improve your fitness and build confidence in the water.
334
Those are great goals.
335
Now, have you ever taken swimming lessons before?
336
No, this is my first time to take lessons.
337
Before, I just swim with friends sometimes.
338
I see.
339
So you've practiced informally with friends.
340
That's good.
341
At least you're comfortable getting in the water.
342
Now, let me ask you, can you float on your back?
343
Can you put your face in the water comfortably?
344
Um, float on my back?
345
I think… no, I cannot do this.
346
And putting face in water is difficult for me.
347
That's completely normal for beginners.
348
Don't worry, we'll work on all of that.
349
These are basic skills that we teach in our beginner classes.
350
Now, how many days per week can you come for lessons?
351
I think I can come two days per week.
352
Is this okay?
353
Two days per week is perfect.
354
That's actually ideal for beginners.
355
We have beginner classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m or Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10 a.m.
356
Which schedule works better for you?
357
Um, I think Monday and Wednesday evening is good for me because I work in the morning.
358
Perfect.
359
The Monday-Wednesday evening class is it.
360
Each class is one hour long.
361
Now, do you have swimming goggles, a swim cap, and a swimsuit?
362
I have swimsuit, but I don't have, um, goggles and swim cap.
363
No problem.
364
You can buy them here at our SportsCenter shop, or you can bring them next time.
365
For your first class, you can try without goggles, but I do recommend getting them because they protect your eyes and help you see underwater.
366
Okay, I will buy them.
367
Um, can I ask, how much is the class?
368
What is the price?
369
Good question, but let's make it more natural.
370
Instead of what is the price, we usually say, how much does the class cost, or what's the fee for the class?
371
Try asking again.
372
How much does the class cost?
373
Great question.
374
Our beginner package is $120 per month for eight classes.
375
That's two classes per week for four weeks.
376
Is that within your budget?
377
Um, yes.
378
I think that's okay.
379
That's good price.
380
When can I start?
381
You can start this Monday if you'd like.
382
Just come 15 minutes early to fill out a registration form and meet the other students in your class.
383
How does that sound?
384
That sounds perfect.
385
Thank you so much, Coach Mike.
386
You're very welcome, Fizu.
387
I'm excited to have you in class.
388
See you Monday evening.
389
See you Monday.
390
Excellent, Fizu.
391
That was a fantastic conversation.
392
You asked great questions and expressed yourself clearly.
393
Now let me share the key phrases for talking to a swimming coach.
394
Key phrases.
395
For talking to a swimming coach.
396
I'm interested in taking swimming lessons.
397
I'm a beginner, or I'm not a strong swimmer.
398
I want to improve my fitness and build confidence.
399
How much does the class cost?
400
When can I start?
401
Fizu, repeat these five phrases for me.
402
I'm interested in taking swimming lessons.
403
I'm a beginner.
404
I want to improve my fitness and build confidence.
405
How much does the class cost?
406
When can I start?
407
Perfect.
408
These five phrases will help you confidently talk to any sports coach, not just swimming coaches.
409
Great job today, Fizu.
410
All right, everyone.
411
Now it's time for our listen and repeat section.
412
This is where you practice speaking out loud with us.
413
Fizu and I will say some useful phrases and you repeat them after us.
414
Ready?
415
Let's go.
416
First phrase.
417
Excuse me, could you help me with this machine?
418
Excuse me, could you help me with this machine?
419
Your turn, everyone.
420
Say it out loud.
421
Great.
422
Next phrase.
423
The machine stopped working.
424
The machine stopped working.
425
Repeat.
426
Excellent.
427
Third phrase.
428
I'm interested in taking swimming lessons.
429
Repeat.
430
Very good.
431
Fourth phrase.
432
I'm a beginner, but I want to improve.
433
It's improve, the V sound at the end.
434
Try again.
435
Improve.
436
Good.
437
Now the full sentence.
438
I'm a beginner, but I want to improve.
439
Perfect.
440
Everyone, repeat.
441
Wonderful.
442
Fifth phrase.
443
How much does the class cost?
444
Repeat.
445
Excellent.
446
Last phrase.
447
Thank you for your help.
448
Thank you for your help.
449
Everyone, repeat.
450
Beautiful.
451
These six phrases are super practical and you can use them in many different situations.
452
Practice them every day.
453
Now let's learn some important vocabulary from today's lesson.
454
We'll learn six useful words and phrases.
455
Ready, Fizu?
456
Yes, ready.
457
Word one, self-checkout.
458
This is a machine at a store where you scan and pay for your items yourself without a cashier.
459
For example, I prefer using the self-checkout because it's faster.
460
Fizu, can you make a sentence with self-checkout?
461
Um, I used self-checkout at the supermarket yesterday.
462
Perfect.
463
Great sentence.
464
Word two, error message.
465
This is a message that appears on a computer or machine screen when something goes wrong.
466
For example, the computer showed an error message, so I restarted it.
467
Fizu, what would you do if you see an error message?
468
I would… um… I would ask someone to help me.
469
Excellent answer!
470
Or you could try to read the message and understand the problem.
471
Good thinking.
472
Word three.
473
Assistance.
474
This means help or support.
475
When something says, please wait for assistance, it means please wait for someone to help you.
476
For example, if you need assistance, please call this number.
477
Fizu, what's another word for assistance?
478
Um, help.
479
Exactly.
480
Assistance and help have the same meaning.
481
Assistance is just more formal.
482
Word four.
483
Swimming coach.
484
This is a person who teaches people how to swim.
485
We can also say swimming instructor.
486
For example, my swimming coach taught me how to float on my back.
487
Fizu, have you ever had a coach for any sport?
488
No, I never had coach before, but now I want swimming coach.
489
That's great!
490
You'll learn so much faster with a good coach.
491
Word 5.
492
Beginner.
493
This is a person who is just starting to learn something new.
494
The opposite is expert or advanced.
495
For example, I'm a beginner at playing guitar, but I practice every day.
496
Fizu, what are you a beginner at?
497
I'm a beginner at…um…I'm a beginner at cooking.
498
Almost.
499
Say, I'm a beginner at cooking, with the article a.
500
Try again.
501
I'm a beginner at cooking.
502
Perfect.
503
Word 6.
504
Budget.
505
This is the amount of money you have available to spend on something.
506
For example, this hotel is perfect for my budget, means the price is affordable for you.
507
Fizu, do you have a budget for your English learning materials?
508
Um, budget?
509
I think, yes.
510
I have small budgets, so I watch free videos like this.
511
That's smart, Fizu, and that's exactly why we make these free lessons, to help learners like you, who have a limited budget.
512
Excellent!
513
Okay, everyone, it's quiz time!
514
Fizu, I'm going to ask you three questions about today's lesson.
515
Let's see how much you remember.
516
Question one.
517
If a self-checkout machine stops working and shows an error message, what should you do first?
518
Um, I should… I should turn off the machine?
519
Not quite.
520
Turning off the machine might make things worse.
521
The best thing to do is ask a staff member for help.
522
Remember our role play?
523
What did you say to me?
524
Oh, yes.
525
I said, excuse me, could you help me with this machine?
526
Exactly.
527
That's the right answer.
528
Always ask for assistance first.
529
Good job remembering.
530
Question two.
531
When talking to a swimming coach, they ask, what's your current swimming level?
532
If you can swim a little but you're not very good, what should you say?
533
I should say, I'm beginner?
534
Almost.
535
Remember the grammar.
536
What small word are you missing?
537
Oh, I'm a beginner.
538
Perfect!
539
Yes, you need the article A before beginner.
540
Excellent correction.
541
Question 3.
542
What does age-restricted items mean?
543
Um, age-restricted.
544
I think it means items that only old people can buy?
545
Good try, but not exactly.
546
Age-restricted means items that only adults can buy, not necessarily old people, just people over a certain age.
547
For example, alcohol, cigarettes, certain medicines.
548
You need to be 18 or 21 years old, depending on the country.
549
Does that make sense?
550
Oh yes!
551
Now I understand.
552
Only adults can buy these items.
553
Exactly right!
554
You got it, Fezu!
555
Three questions and you learned from each one.
556
That's perfect!
557
Alright everyone, now let me share three practical speaking tips.
558
Tip 1.
559
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
560
When you're in a new situation, like using a self-checkout machine or talking to a coach, it's completely normal to need help.
561
Asking for help is not a weakness, it's smart.
562
The simple phrase, excuse me, could you help me please, works in almost every situation.
563
Fizu, have you used this phrase in real life?
564
Yes.
565
I used it last week when I was lost in a shopping mall.
566
Someone helped me find the exit.
567
That's perfect.
568
See how useful this phrase is?
569
Tip two, be honest about your level.
570
Whether Whether you're joining a swimming class, a language class, or any activity, always be honest about your skill level.
571
Don't say you're intermediate if you're a beginner.
572
Being honest helps teachers and coaches give you the right support.
573
Fizu, why do you think honesty is important?
574
I think because if I say I'm good, but I'm not, the teacher will give me difficult exercises and I will be confused.
575
Exactly right!
576
Being honest helps you learn at the right pace for you.
577
Perfect answer.
578
Tip 3.
579
Learn the vocabulary for common error messages.
580
If you use self-service machines, like self-checkout, ticket machines, or ATMs, learn common error messages in English.
581
Phrases like, unexpected item in the bagging area, please wait, payment declined, or insert card appear very often.
582
If you know these phrases, you'll feel more confident using these machines.
583
Fizu, do you think this tip is helpful?
584
Yes, very helpful.
585
Because sometimes I see these words, but I don't know the meaning, so I just press buttons and hope it works.
586
Yes, I think many people do that.
587
But now you'll understand what the machine is saying, and you can solve the problem or ask for help more clearly.
588
Great!
589
All right, everyone, let's summarize what we learned today on Day 6.
590
We practiced two very practical situations.
591
First, we learned how to ask for help at a self-checkout machine.
592
You learned phrases like, excuse me, could you help me with this machine?
593
And the machine stopped working.
594
You also learned about common error messages like unexpected item in the bagging area and please wait for assistance.
595
Second, we practiced talking to a swimming coach at a sports center.
596
You learned how to express your interest in taking lessons, how to describe your skill level honestly, how to ask about schedules and prices,
597
and how to start your fitness journey with confidence.
598
And we also learned six important vocabulary words, self-checkout, arrow message, assistance, swimming coach, beginner, and budget.
599
And in our quiz, you practiced remembering key information and correcting small mistakes.
600
Fizu, what was your favorite part of today's lesson?
601
I really like the swimming coach role play because I really want to join swimming class.
602
So now I know exactly what to say.
603
And also, I learned that I don't need to be shy about asking for help.
604
That makes me feel more confident.
605
That's beautiful, Fizu.
606
And I noticed something.
607
At the beginning of today's lesson, you made small grammar mistakes, like forgetting the article A before beginner.
608
But by the end, you were correcting yourself.
609
That's real improvement.
610
Yes, I made mistakes, but I learned from them.
611
Now I know I should say I'm a beginner, not I'm beginner.
612
I feel happy about this.
613
And that's exactly what learning is all about.
614
Making mistakes, learning from them, and improving every single day.
615
