Den ve podcast Slow and Clear Go What's Up English
6
Now, my name is Carter And I'll be the host of the podcast today And hopefully
7
many other podcasts in the future This podcast is for people who are at an upper beginner level Or above in English
8
In this podcast, I'm going to talk not too fast and very clearly so you can practice your listening skills and also your pronunciation skills if you copy me.
9
So if you shadow me, for example.
10
Shadowing means to say what I'm saying.
11
In Vietnamese, I think you guys can say bạc chục.
12
So if you do that, then you can practice your pronunciation.
13
Before we start, I want to remind you that this podcast has English and Vietnamese subtitles.
14
So if there are any words that you don't understand or that you couldn't really hear clearly, just check the subtitles.
15
If you're just listening on headphones on another platform, then you can go to YouTube, look in the description and download the transcript or just look at the subtitles.
16
So in today's podcast, I'm going to talk about, well,
17
first I'll introduce myself to you guys and I'll tell you about What's Up English and kind of like what you can expect from What's up English in the future.
18
So firstly, well, very nice to meet you.
19
My name is Carter.
20
Maybe you've seen me in videos on TikTok or on Instagram.
21
You know, those of you have seen me in different places.
22
Some people, they see me on the street and they say, oh, are you the TikToker or whatever?
23
And I say, yeah, yeah, I've made a few videos.
24
And so I wanted to make this podcast to connect with you guys on a personal level.
25
So if there's anything, by the way, you have any suggestions, you can just make a comment.
26
But anyway, I'm getting a little bit off topic now.
27
I made this podcast to help English learners, specifically English learners in Vietnam.
28
And it's mostly for for upper beginner and above learners.
29
For total beginners, I don't think it's totally ideal to study with a native speaker.
30
I think it's better to learn from Vietnamese people.
31
But for higher level learners, you can start listening to native content and that is why I made this podcast.
32
So I want to tell you guys about the journey from making TikToks up until now.
33
Because I could not believe how many people started following my TikTok and started watching my TikToks.
34
I put out videos nearly a year ago.
35
I believe it was August of 2022.
36
I started putting out some videos on TikTok teaching English.
37
And I thought, oh, you know, if I could get a few followers and a few views, that would be cool.
38
I didn't expect much, to be honest.
39
But I had the goal of making videos that were really useful that could, you know, really help Vietnamese English learners.
40
So I made the first video, didn't get too many views, maybe I think 100 or something.
41
And on TikTok, that's like nothing because TikTok is the easy one out of, you know, the different platforms, right?
42
I made another one.
43
Again, not too many views.
44
And then I think it was the third video that I made.
45
And the content was a little bit different.
46
The style was a bit different.
47
And I uploaded it when I was at a cafe.
48
Then I started driving home.
49
I didn't think too much about it.
50
And then I opened the app on my phone because most people, when they upload a video on TikTok, you know, they, they open their phone to see how many views that they have.
51
And so, yeah, I did that.
52
And then I saw it was like five, 5,000 or something.
53
And that was after about 15 minutes.
54
And so I was thinking something's wrong.
55
Not only that, but a lot of people were following.
56
And then every time I refreshed
57
the page there was there were like thousands more views and so I was shocked to be completely honest I
58
did not expect that to happen like I kept refreshing and then there were more and more and more and I was like what is going on I have like 10,000 followers and 15,000 it was exploding and And then so,
59
well, I kept on uploading videos because again, I had all of these ideas in my head that I thought Vietnamese people could really benefit from this.
60
Like it could be really useful for them.
61
And so, and apparently, you know, people liked it and I was very happy about that.
62
And so I made videos for about, sorry, I'm talking a bit fast.
63
And so I made videos for about six months consistently, maybe four or five.
64
To be honest, I can't really remember.
65
And then I amassed about, you know, a bunch of followers, a bunch of views.
66
Some videos did much better than others, of course.
67
But then I stopped making videos because I had made a lot of videos.
68
I had a lot of people follow me.
69
I had a decent size Facebook group, but I didn't have anything else to give the students.
70
and I think TikTok and Instagram reels those short videos I think they're useful
71
for learning but if you really want to learn you need to have more and
72
to be honest I don't even really like TikTok I don't like the whole short content thing going on how everyone is
73
pretty much addicted to short content because I see it like that stuff is cake.
74
It's really sweet.
75
It's delicious.
76
And when you eat it, you want to eat more.
77
And when you eat it, your brain gets that dopamine and you feel really good.
78
And so it makes other foods not so appealing.
79
Like if you eat cake all the time or if you eat something so delicious all the time,
80
then the other things that are healthy but a little bit more bland won't be as appealing to you.
81
And I see short content kind of like that.
82
It makes us really used to getting that quick hit of a good feeling and then go to the next one.
83
And many people have talked about this, so I'm not going to talk about it too much.
84
But what I wanted to do was create something bigger, create something more useful.
85
And so that's what I'm working on right now.
86
I'm not going to talk too much about it.
87
I will announce it in the future.
88
But yeah, so that's kind of why I stopped making TikTok videos is because I started spending my time making something else.
89
And those videos on TikTok, they take a lot of time for me to think about what the video will be about, to film it, to edit it, because I didn't have a team.
90
I was doing everything by myself.
91
And so it took me a lot, a lot of time.
92
And I realized if I wanted to create something bigger and better, then I need to sacrifice something to have more time.
93
And so I put short videos on pause and I'm working on something else.
94
It's coming soon.
95
All right.
96
I'm looking at my notes here because I made a bit of a plan for this podcast.
97
so guys what can you expect from this channel and from what's up English
98
well this channel I plan to upload content at least once a week whether that
99
is a short video or a long video I want to focus more on long videos that
100
are really high quality and really useful so you guys can learn right whenever
101
I'm making a video I'm always thinking about you guys I'm thinking like okay what
102
would be useful for them what would they watch and be also entertained by because you know when
103
you learn English you also have to have fun and if it's purely educational like someone in front of
104
a whiteboard just writing you know this and this then you feel bored
105
and while it is very educational I think entertainment is crucial especially these
106
days when we can easily go to something else and be entertained so um So yeah, that's what you can expect from this channel is videos each week.
107
And if there's anything you guys want to learn, please just put a comment in the description.
108
I will read them and I listen to your feedback for sure.
109
I don't want to ramble on and kind of bore you with talking.
110
So I don't think this podcast will be very long because it's the first one.
111
and I just want to like introduce you guys to myself and to the um to WhatsApp
112
English to the company so again guys um download my ebook of the 48 most
113
useful phrases in English that we use every day and write a comment in the comment section let me know what do you want to see
114
and yeah this is my first podcast so it's not the best but it's something so thank you
115
so much for watching and if you want to watch more of my content just click this video up here whichever one it is so again thanks for watching and I'll see you next time goodbye
