Hey, what was that?
2
I went forward in time to view alternate futures, to see all the possible outcomes of the coming conflict.
3
How many did you see?
4
14 ,605 ,000.
5
How many did we win?
6
One.
7
That hesitation from Doctor Strange as he looks into this face.
8
Did Doctor Strange look all the way into the future of Doctor Doom?
9
Welcome back to New Rockstars.
10
I'm Eric Boss, and this is a breakdown of everything you missed in 2018's Avengers Infinity War, the next title in our Doomsday Essential Breakdown series.
11
Revisiting this movie for the first time in six years, we seriously found 200 details that we're going to share with you in a scene -by -scene breakdown of this movie,
12
along with all of the parallels that the Russo Brothers seem to be bringing back in Avengers Doomsday.
13
By the way, I'm wearing this Doomsday shirt available exclusively at our merch store, nerdwrite .shop.
14
And if you've been seeing these hilarious guerrilla grod set photos we also have
15
that shirt this grod needs a brew
16
that i'm about to start wearing everywhere nerd right dot shop
17
okay over the opening marvel studios title card we hear a
18
distress signal being broadcast through space this is the asgardian refugee
19
we are under assault i repeat we are under assault
20
that is the voice of thor director kenneth branagh future star
21
of christopher nolan's tenet interestingly this film bookends with a distress call from another director, director Nick Fury.
22
This is a ship that we last saw at the end of Thor Ragnarok, with that film's mid -credits scene showing the coming attack from Thanos in the Black Order.
23
Half of the Asgardians escaped this attack, including Valkyrie, Korg, and Meek to arrive at New Asgard in Avengers Endgame.
24
You can actually see them fleeing in the Grandmaster's pleasure craft from Thor Ragnarok, the Commodore.
25
That ship does seem to be just floating here, but I assume
26
that they were able to get away before Thanos power -stoned
27
statesman among the bodies on the ground we see is roscoe
28
one of the gladiators from sakar who joined the rebellion with
29
korg we seriously never caught this detail until we revisited the
30
movie here loki rolls his eyes as ebony mom monologues as
31
if he's heard these diatribes before my humble personage bows before
32
your grandeur yes the words ebony ma says here are a direct quote from what mephisto says to thanos
33
and the infinity gauntlet storyline by jim starlin loki has some history with Thanos.
34
He was around Thanos for at least a year following the
35
events of Thor before the Mad Titans sent Loki to Earth with the Mind Stone Scepter in the Chitauri army.
36
Now Thanos preaches.
37
I know what it's like to lose.
38
Turns the legs to jelly.
39
You talk too much.
40
At 29 minutes of screen time, Thanos has the most screen time of any character in this film.
41
Thor has only half, 14 and a half minutes.
42
This framing here perfectly reflects that disparity, with the Avengers so small and defeated that we initially don't even recognize him at Thanos' feet.
43
The writers framed Thanos as the true protagonist of the story, it really is his journey, making Thor his structural antagonist.
44
Had Thor gone for the head, he would be the hero of the story.
45
Instead, he's this movie's crazy axe murderer.
46
So this whole idea of failure turning the legs to jelly, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers wobble off their feet by the end of this movie, and when Thanos fails in Avengers Endgame, he's gonna be all jelly too.
47
Loki tries to call Thanos his bluff, but when he sees the damage the Power Stone can do to Thor, he relents and reveals the Tesseract.
48
Thor thought it was destroyed on asgard as it was placed in odin's vault after the battle of new york
49
but loki did indeed swipe it during ragnarok he reveals the
50
tesseract out of thin air similar to how dr strange will
51
reveal the time stone loki calls back tony in avengers i
52
have an army we have a hulk we have a hulk thanos beats the crap out of hulk and
53
if you look closely in many of the shots he seems
54
to not be using the power stone though there are some
55
shots where the power stone looks slightly illuminated it's kind of hard to know
56
when he is and is not using it this is really the last of conqueror thanos that we see in this movie.
57
He now removes his armor, retiring to a spiritual quest.
58
Josh Brolin based his performance on Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now.
59
Two delusional baldies.
60
Stubble is visible on his head, suggesting that he deliberately shaves it out of a similar dogmatic commitment.
61
Seeing Hulk lose in a physical hand -to -hand fight in this movie just makes us very, very scared of Thanos in this moment.
62
Unfortunately, it would start a trend in some of the titles after this, where Hulk was just unfortunately nerfed out of his true abilities.
63
Heimdall summons the power of the All -Fathers to send Hulk back to Earth through the Bifrost as a warning.
64
Loki mentioned in Avengers that dark magic could be used to teleport someone even without the Bifrost.
65
With the Bifrost gone, how much dark energy did the All -Father have to muster to conjure you here?
66
Your precious Earth.
67
Here is actually where Ebony Maw does the humble personage line.
68
While Mephisto was not part of this story, Sacha Baron Cohen, of course, will be cast as Mephisto in the Ironheart series, and it's rumored to appear again in Ghost Rider.
69
Loki tries a hidden dagger trick on Thanos, the same one that he pulled on Thor in Avengers, but Thanos is too quick.
70
He uses the space stone to stop the dagger in its place.
71
Good thing he just put that stone in the gauntlet.
72
Loki's death is preceded with his memory of Odin's recent death and acknowledgement of him as a son.
73
I, Loki, Prince of Asgard, Odin's son.
74
He even turns to the left with the same framing and expression when he says Odin's son.
75
This Loki spent his time post -Battle of New York ruling Asgard by pretending to be his father figure of Odin, but eventually came to love Odin and see Thor as a true brother.
76
However, Loki variant L1130, who was created during the time heist, will have to learn to love his family
77
and become the god of stories through the centuries he spends
78
in a time loop in the TVA trying to save the multiverse.
79
There was a time when I thought Infinity War was a story of sacrifice, and it is in a way.
80
The theme spoken in this movie is we don't trade lives.
81
But on a deeper level, Loki and Heimdall's shocking early deaths establishes this as a story where Thanos' victory is already preordained.
82
It's a story of mourning.
83
How do we accept the deaths of loved ones?
84
And what kind of monster would think that watching a loved one die would make things better?
85
Thanos, that's who!
86
Thanos is a psycho Malthusian eco -terrorist.
87
He's wrong on so many levels, something that Cindy Moon will ask about in Spider -Man Brand New Day.
88
But the Avengers' stubborn refusal to let any of them die, ever, is naive.
89
In this movie, they are taught a brutal lesson in triage.
90
They are able ultimately to undo everything Thanos does in the snap, but all the deaths before the snap cannot be undone.
91
We'll have to see what lessons the Avengers take away from this encounter when they take on Doctor Doom in Doomsday.
92
Will they be more willing to make those sacrifices knowing they can't just pull the time heist all over again?
93
Holst's Bifrost trajectory takes them past the sun first and then past the moon.
94
A Redditor charted this out to propose that there was a solar eclipse at this time, which the ancient Norse peoples interpreted as a sign of the coming Ragnarok apocalypse.
95
Had they placed the eclipse over Norway, Hulk's vector would land him on the eastern seaboard.
96
Banner lands in the Sanctum Sanctorum with a warning, just as Silver Surfer does in the Infinity Gauntlet comics.
97
The Cloak of Levitation wraps around Doctor Strange.
98
Later, Bruce Banner wears Strange's casual clothes.
99
Tony Stark tells Pepper Potts about his vivid dream of a kid named Morgan, a dream that will come true in Avengers Endgame when they have a daughter named Morgan.
100
As we learn in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, dreams are simply our view into the lives of different versions of ourselves across the multiverse.
101
So Tony was peeping on a multiversal Tony that already had a Morgan.
102
Now, there was a deleted version of the scene where Happy Hogan would have rolled up on a golf cart
103
and then gone chasing after Bert, the paparazzi, played by Joe Russo.
104
No, after that, you two should just elope.
105
Because this media circus that's going on is driving me crazy.
106
Okay.
107
This is me on edge.
108
I'm sorry.
109
Because I'm trying to keep all the pictures out of the paper and off the internet so your wedding's not ruined.
110
No one's working harder than you.
111
Remember that kid from TMZ that you had me trade paint with on the FDR drive?
112
Well, I got a case against me now.
113
That's my fault?
114
Yeah, it's your fault lose him half lose him half like
115
the godfather it's really funny now you gotta go to court that's why
116
when you get out of the cart
117
and just de -stress just walk like this burt i see
118
you burt hold on burt you son of a bitch come
119
here burt come here man we gotta get him a girlfriend
120
here in the scene we see how tony has installed a housing for his nano suit on his chest
121
because he's not gonna be caught flat -footed pepper says
122
that he doesn't need it
123
but tony reassures her i'm just trying to protect us future us's
124
and that's it just in case there's months from the closet instead of you know shirts tony's setting up
125
that he needs a nano suit here now to protect the
126
future versions of them is a hint of the time travel shenanigans
127
that would round out this two -part story items in the past
128
that protect the future dr strange shows up
129
and bruce banner is back on earth for the first time since age of ultron
130
and gives tony a desperate hug they all retreat back to the sanctum sanctorum where wong
131
and dr strange catch tony up on infinity stones big banks and six elemental crystals huddling across the virgin universe
132
These infinity stones each control an essential aspect of existence.
133
In this scene, Tony looks at the cell phone that Steve Rogers gave him at the end of Civil War, and we see that there's an unopened text message on there.
134
Like at some point, Steve Rogers tried to reach out to him to further explain his position, and Tony just never really opened it.
135
Bruce gives the whole exposition on Thanos, and Tony doesn't even blink, because this is the moment he's been waiting for.
136
Tony bickers with Strange.
137
You could destroy life on a scale hitherto undreamt of.
138
Did you seriously just say hitherto undreamt of?
139
Are you seriously leaning on the cauldron of the cosmos?
140
In the comics, Doctor Strange uses this cauldron of the cosmos to help Spider -Man look backwards in time, just like Strange's cryptic one plan will require the Avengers to do.
141
And I love this detail.
142
It's pretty easy to miss.
143
But the Cloak of Levitation totally acts independently, kind of like Aladdin's magic carpet and smacks Tony here.
144
In the scene, they mention making balloon animals, which is a nod to Doctor Strange's Jimmy Kimmel bit.
145
And they also reference the Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor, a hunk of hulk of burning fudge, which we will see Bruce Banner eating in Avengers Endgame.
146
Bruce is shocked to hear he's a flavor, probably because he wants a fat royalty check.
147
Tony wants Doctor Strange to destroy the Time Stone, which he refuses to do.
148
Our oath to protect the Time Stone cannot change.
149
And this stone may be the best chance we have against Thanos.
150
As we will see from the Ancient One in Avengers Endgame, the masters of the mystic arts are very serious about protecting the Time Stone.
151
But Doctor Strange is right.
152
Time is their best chance at defeating Thanos.
153
Bruce tells Tony that Thor is gone, for in his mind, he must be dead.
154
Here's where Tony pulls out the flip phone.
155
It's actually a 2011 AT &T Z221 envelope icon.
156
It's so funny to watch these earlier Marvel movies.
157
They never have iPhones.
158
Meanwhile, on a field trip, Peter Parker's Spidey Sense triggers his arm hairs, kind of like the tiny hair spiders actually use to sense vibrations.
159
We're not showing you a photo because, you know, a lot of arachnophobes watch these videos and we don't want to freak you out.
160
Peter slaps on his web shooters that activate around his wrists.
161
He'll take these to Europe with him, using them against the water elemental in Venice.
162
He leaves Stan Lee's school bus wearing a shirt reading, Lettuce, the Taste of Sadness.
163
He's going to get a big mouthful of lettuce as this movie ends.
164
He leaps off the Queensborough Bridge, because our boy is from Queens, after all.
165
This is a bridge next to Roosevelt Island Tramway that Peter
166
and MJ will stand on as they run from the press in Spider -Man No Way Home.
167
This is also a bridge that I think goes over Roosevelt Island, where the DODC facility is, where that Ventmax sticker is that Sarah Gray will obsess over.
168
As they face down Squidward and his big friend, Doctor Strange is able to conjure the spell known as the
169
Winds of Watoom to nullify the wind damage being created by Thanos' Q -ship, a clear sign to Tony that magic is perhaps powerful enough to take on Thanos.
170
Tony scoffs, but you know he's impressed by the world of magic he's suddenly being introduced to.
171
Tony's new Mark 50 nanotech armor absorbs his sunglasses as he takes them off, Meaning he just did this as an intimidation tactic.
172
These glasses are powered by Friday and look very similar to the Edith glasses that Tony will leave behind for Peter Parker.
173
During this fight, Ebony Maw burns his hands on the Eye of Agamotto, like the Nazi with the headpiece in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
174
And then when Wong severs Cole Obsidian's hand, on the other side of the portal, you can see that Bruce Banner already had his fists up, ready to go.
175
For this quick save, Tony invites Wong to his wedding.
176
And considering Wong wasn't dusted, he might have actually gone.
177
Peter Parker follows Tony's orders to save the wizard on it
178
and ends up on the ascending spaceship uh mr stork i'm
179
being beamed up i guess peter parker knows star wars
180
and star trek tony shoots up to save peter inside his
181
helmet you can see his nanotech preparing to assemble into the foot booster love
182
that little detail later on in the movie
183
when they're on titan tony's heads -up display shows the nanobots prepping the missiles
184
that he's about to fire at thanos this booster was an upgrade
185
that tony made after his failure to catch up with roadie in civil war he's not gonna let
186
that happen to peter tony tells friday to unlock 17a one
187
of many examples of the number 17 in the mcu this
188
shoots out what becomes peter's iron spider suit this is a suit
189
that he wanted to give to peter at the end of
190
spider -man homecoming this suit was inspired by the civil war comics where it also had mechanical legs waldos
191
which first appeared in amazing spider -man number 529 during the
192
civil war event pepper pots calls tony as he exits earth's
193
atmosphere with a call quickly dropping out this is similar to
194
how tony tried to call pepper as he was guiding the
195
nuke through the portal in the 2012 adventures film only that time Pepper didn't see the call.
196
We catch up with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
197
This is several years after we last saw them in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
198
2, noticed by Peter Quill's facial hair.
199
They're singing along to Rubberman Man, which was a song written for the Spinner's producer's son to cheer him up for being teased about his weight.
200
This song would be on Yondu's Zune, and in the next scene, Peter Quill gets fat shamed, so his real daddy is kind of cheering him up from beyond the grave.
201
Teen Groot plays a handheld version of the arcade game Defender, somewhat similar to the arcade game Galaga
202
that the S .H .I .E .L .D agent was playing on the Helicarrier in a 2012 Avengers film.
203
Mantis has always been hilarious to watch the background of all these movies.
204
After Peter tells them to put on their mean faces, she does practice gnashing her teeth.
205
Later on in nowhere, she creeps with her hands and fingers folded downward like a praying mantis.
206
They bring Thor on board and cannot help but comment on how chiseled he is.
207
And when he wakes up, the God of Thunder learns about Gamora's history with a mad titan.
208
Your father killed my brother.
209
Oh boy.
210
stepfather.
211
Technically she hates him as much as you do.
212
This echoes how in the first Avengers Thor was quick to point out
213
that Loki was adopted when Natasha said that he murdered 80 civilians.
214
When Thor approaches Gamora she reaches for her sword, God Slayer, to slay this god if she needs to.
215
If you've been wondering how Thanos started off with a power stone already in his gauntlet, Thor informs the Guardians that Thanos stole it the previous week when he decimated Xandar.
216
We still don't know how badly Xandar was destroyed by Thanos
217
but we can assume that he and his Black Order killed off at least half of the population.
218
Anything that was undone by Hulk's snap in Endgame only fixed what had been done after Thanos' original snap, so it would not have been done the destruction of Xandar.
219
Hopefully, we're going to learn more about Xandar's fate in the upcoming Nova movie, written by Michael Waldron.
220
Thor heads off to Nidavellir with Rocket and Groot to build a Thanos -killing weapon, since Mjolnir was destroyed by Hela in Ragnarok.
221
Before leaving, he assures the Guardians that the two Infinity Stones on Earth are safely with the Avengers.
222
Time and Mind Stones are safe on Earth, they're with the Avengers.
223
The Avengers?
224
The Earth's mightiest heroes.
225
Like Kevin Bacon?
226
He may be on the team.
227
I don't know.
228
I haven't been there in a while.
229
Mantis will eventually kidnap Kevin Bacon in an effort to give
230
her half -brother Peter Quill a Merry Christmas present in the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special.
231
Quill wants a Thanos -killing weapon, too, but Thor warns.
232
You simply lack the strength to wield them.
233
Your bodies would crumple as your minds collapsed into madness.
234
But not our boy Steve Rogers.
235
He can wield both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.
236
Back on Earth, we jump to Edinburgh, Scotland, where Vision and Wanda have been hanging out.
237
We learned in an Infinity War prelude comic that Wanda fled to Edinburgh to stay low after the events of Civil War.
238
Vision found her there and they rekindled their budding romance.
239
White Vision will return to Edinburgh in the upcoming Vision Quest series as he seeks to recover his memories.
240
We see him working there in the trailer
241
and we see the bar top that they used to frequent where they carved their initials into it in a heart.
242
Wanda scans Vision's Mind Stone, visually foreshadowing the way that she'll blast this thing out of his head later.
243
I just feel you also foreshadowing Vision's final words to her in this movie.
244
I just feel you.
245
And something that gets heartbreakingly called back in WandaVision.
246
I can't feel you.
247
Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight arrive to get the Mind Stone.
248
Glaive stabs Vision with his glaive.
249
It's a powerful weapon that can prevent Vision from phasing and can also block the energy beam from the stone.
250
Wanda begins to stitch up the wound with magic when the backup arrives, but this is why Vision can no longer phase for the rest of the movie.
251
Steve Rogers appears from behind a passing train as Silvestri's Avengers theme plays.
252
Interesting that he appears from behind a train.
253
The Russo brothers have recently, when talking about Avengers Doomsday, compared their process for that movie to Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West.
254
And memorably, Harmonica at the beginning of that movie appears from behind a train.
255
This kind of makes me think
256
that maybe they really do view Robert Downey Jr. as the stunt -casting good guy as the bad guy as Frank, and that Harmonica might be Steve Rogers' analog.
257
Now remember, Steve tore off the star emblem from his suit.
258
Through the tears underneath, Cap still wears the older scale mesh armor that he used to have.
259
Natasha has gone blonde, as she's still in hiding following Civil War, and wears a gray vest.
260
That we learn in the Black Widow film that she got from her sister figure, Yelena Belova.
261
Both the vest and the hairstyle.
262
Natasha manages to stab Glaive with the Glaive, causing him and Proxima Midnight to retreat.
263
Natasha will think that she killed him when she runs into Proxima again in Wakanda.
264
Where's the other friend?
265
He will pay for his life with yours.
266
But Proxima uses this ruse in order to get Glaive closer to Vision.
267
We see the gang hopping into a Quinjet and head back to the Avengers compound, which steve calls home this calls back what he said at
268
the end of age of ultron you're right i'm home
269
but steve won't truly feel home until he stays in the past creating a branch timeline
270
and probably screwing things up for dr doom we get a
271
flashback of thanos's attack on gamora's home world the zehobore where he used the black order
272
and the chitauri to kill off half of
273
that planet society we see him meeting a young gamora played
274
by ariana greenblatt ariana would go on to play young ahsoka
275
tano in the live action ahsoka series the guardians arrive on nowhere
276
which will later be their base of operations in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
277
3, as they sneak up on Thanos, you can hear him say to the collector, Everyone in the galaxy knows you'd sell your own brother
278
if you thought it would add even the slightest trinket to your pathetic collection.
279
His brother would be the Grand Master, played by Jeff Goldblum in Ragnarok.
280
One of the collections in the vault is a Blue Man, a nod by the Russo brothers to the form that Tobias Funke took throughout Arrested Development.
281
Worth noting that this intact vault was a reality stone illusion, so Thanos totally conjured a Blue Man from his own imagination.
282
Another reality stone clue that fans spotted when the Blu -ray came out, when Gamora stabs Thanos, the dagger, after she pulls back, doesn't have Thanos' blood on it.
283
Proof that this was actually an illusory stab.
284
But yes, Thanos does already have the reality stone, formerly the Aether from Thor The Dark World.
285
The stone glows red in his gauntlet, similar to a specific red gem that we noticed in the armor for Doctor Doom in the Avengers Doomsday trailer.
286
We know the power the Infinity Stones have, so if Doctor Doom doesn't intend to save or reshape his universe in some way, he likely sought out the Infinity Stones in his own universe of the 828 Earth.
287
Thanos uses the Reality Stone to break Drax into cubes and Mantis into ribbons, almost like how Wanda Maximoff spagettified Reed Richards in the 838 universe in Multiverse of Madness.
288
Quill tries to fulfill his promise to kill Gamora instead of letting Thanos capture her, but Thanos turns his blasts into bubbles.
289
This is the last time Quill will see this Gamora, so in a way, this is her moment of death for him.
290
Back at Avengers HQ, Stephen McFeely cameos as one of Secretary Ross' aides.
291
Natasha and Bruce reunite, having not seen each other since the end of Age of Ultron.
292
But I'm sure Bruce is not ready to admit he now has a son named Scar with a terrible haircut.
293
Vision says, Thanos threatens half the universe.
294
One life cannot stand in the way of defeating him.
295
But it should.
296
We don't trade lives, Vision.
297
The Avengers could have just skipped ahead to Vision's fate, but their stubbornness to surgically sustain his soul gives Thanos enough time to get the time stone and reverse whatever they do.
298
That refusal to trade lives ends up costing everyone everything, forcing them to trade lives nonetheless, to mourn.
299
In Wakanda, T 'Challa provides Bucky with his new vibranium arm, replacing the arm that Tony blasted off in Civil War.
300
T 'Challa refers to him as the White Wolf, a moniker that comes up in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.
301
There's a White Wolf in Marvel Comics, but it's not Bucky, rather a different foreigner who was adopted by King T 'Chaka after surviving a plane crash.
302
Ebony Maw tortures Dr. Strange.
303
They were originally designed for microsurgery.
304
A cruel irony for Strange, whose pre -sorcerer specialty was microsurgery, some concept art revealed an alternate version of this scene with Tony saving Strange by putting him in the nanotech.
305
And we know from behind -the -scenes footage
306
that they did shoot some version of the scene where Tony Stark would have been wearing the Cloak of Levitation.
307
Peter Parker's plan to save Doctor Strange is to blast Ebony
308
Maw into space like Ripley does to the Xenomorph Queen in the really old movie Aliens.
309
Though technically she does a similar trick at the end of the first Alien film.
310
Peter tries to meet Strange's cloak of levitation, but it brushes him off.
311
He'll spar with that same cloak in Spider -Man No Way Home.
312
Strange asks if Peter is Tony's ward, a reference to Batman having Robin as his ward.
313
Strange says...
314
If it comes to saving you, or the kid, or the Time Stone, I will not hesitate to let either of you die.
315
Finally, someone speaking some sense in this movie.
316
The other Avengers' losses of loved ones and mentors felt like avoidable mistakes.
317
Strange lost the Ancient One, but she taught him that death gives life meaning.
318
Strange is totally willing to sacrifice others, even the Time Stone itself, if it means winning an endgame.
319
We also know that Stephen Strange across the multiverse will go to extreme lengths to protect their universes.
320
The Stephen Strange of the 838 universe formed the Illuminati to make tough decisions like this
321
and even use the Darkhold in the effort to defeat that universe's Thanos while also wiping out an entire other universe.
322
Thanos uses both the Power Stone and the Space Stone to separate Nebula's parts and torture each piece, double the amount of pain that he gave Thor, he tells Gamora.
323
But I never taught you to lie.
324
That's why you're so bad at it.
325
In Guardians Volume 2, Nebula also was unable to lie.
326
You know, you'd think an evil supervillain would learn how to properly lie.
327
And in Endgame, she ends up echoing Thanos' lying policy.
328
My father is many things.
329
A liar is not one of them.
330
Thanos reveals Nebula in Gamora's conversation from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
331
2, so there was some sort of map to the Soul Stone that Gamora burnt to ash.
332
I wonder who originally made that map, and if that map exists in the 828 universe, is that how Doctor Doom could have found the Soul Stone in that reality?
333
I don't know why, but the month of September always feels like a major transition for me.
334
Like, I haven't been in high school since high school, but because I spent so many of my formative years treating September like the start of some big new adventure,
335
it's just hard to flip that switch off and it's not just the residual inertia of going back to school.
336
A lot of the patterns I developed before I had the right context or self -awareness to appreciate them still linger.
337
Something my therapist has reminded me of that's really helpful is
338
that now I can apply adult context and agency to some of those feelings.
339
So yeah, it's September and if I'm feeling geared up for a big new adventure, why not just lean into it?
340
Maybe you feel the same way, maybe you've been thinking about therapy yourself and maybe now is the time to embark on that adventure.

350
Let's get back to it.
351
On the Milano's pod ship, Thor laments his many losses, including his brother Loki, but he tries to amp himself up.
352
Thanos is just the latest on a long line of bastards, and he'll be the latest to fill my vengeance.
353
Fate wills it so.
354
And what if you're wrong?
355
Well, if I'm wrong, then what more could I lose?
356
Thor will face an even greater enemy in the form of Dr. Doom in Doomsday, and at that point, he will have something more to lose his adopted daughter, Love.
357
Thor, Rocket, and Groot find the ruins of Nidavellir and Eitri, played by Peter Dinklage.
358
Eitri is pissed at first since they were supposed to be under Asgard's protection.
359
Nidavellir is one of the nine realms, and with Odin dead and Ragnarok having come to pass, there was really no protection for the dwarves of Nidavellir.
360
Eitri revealed that he had forged the Infinity Gauntlet with a mold.
361
The screenwriters interpreted that the gauntlet Thanos had in the Age of Ultron post -credits scene was a practice gauntlet.
362
So if that's true, that really leaves the MCU with four total gauntlets.
363
There's the Age of You post -credit Practice Gauntlet, the Fake Gauntlet, and Odin's Vault, Thanos' Infinity War Gauntlet, and ultimately Tony Stark's Nano Gauntlet.
364
They assemble a new weapon.
365
In theory, it could even summon the Bifrost.
366
It have a name?
367
Stormbreaker.
368
Stormbreaker is the name of the battle axe that Beta Ray Bill carries as Thor.
369
It does have Bifrost powers.
370
Notice the mold is engraved with a symbol
371
that a bifrost scorches into the ground strange cushions the crash landing on titan for tony
372
and peter oh you won one that tony will give strange
373
and in the one out of 14 million 605 futures they succeed the one sacrifice play
374
that strange reminds him of in endgame he always trembles his hand
375
which he also does when confronting the guardians here and
376
when surrendering the time stone just him tracking
377
that his hands were never fully physically healed this faction of
378
the guardians run into them as well since Nebula sent a message to Mantis while she escaped.
379
Quill has his mask again even though that mask seemed to get destroyed in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2.
380
This was a continuity error
381
that kind of irked James Gunn since he had no control
382
over the Guardians in this Russo's directed movie even though he is credited as a producer on it.
383
This left him needing to have a contrived reason why Quill
384
didn't have his mask in Volume 3 saying on Twitter
385
that Quill left his mask in the desk drawer on Nowhere when he rushed off to save Rocket.
386
But Gunn would kind of have his revenge by having Nebula
387
somehow steal Bucky's vibranium arm in the Guardians holiday special and gifted to Rocket for Christmas.
388
There never is an explanation of how Bucky has his arm again in Captain America Brave New World or Thunderbolts.
389
I guess the Wakandans just gave him another one or he just somehow got it back.
390
But yes, this fight is where we get this wonderful exchange.
391
Where is Gamora?
392
Yeah, I'll do you one better.
393
Who's Gamora?
394
I'll do you one better.
395
Why is Gamora?
396
I mean, that question of why is Gamora is kind of the thematic answer of this movie.
397
Gamora represents the sacrifice that the protagonist of the story, Thanos, is willing to make, and the kind of sacrifice that the other antagonists, who we consider to be the heroes, is not willing to make.
398
Once you understand that why of Gamora, this whole movie does turn on its thematic axis.
399
I like the detail of the gravity on Titan being reduced, and we see Mantis bouncing and Drax yawning, which might not just be because he's bored, but because the reduced gravity would make the air thinner,
400
resulting in him yawning in order to get more oxygen.
401
We do see a variant version of Titan in Multiverse of Madness where the Illuminati were able to kill
402
that Thanos thanks to the Darkhold and even drove Thanos' double -edged sword into his chest.
403
The A38 Thanos was stopped by the Illuminati before he collected all the stones.
404
You can see his gauntlet on Titan that he's missing the Mind Stone and the Time Stone, meaning that he didn't get all the way to Earth in that universe.
405
While Doctor Strange reviews the 14 ,605 ,000 possible outcomes for their battle with Thanos, I like how the green rings around his forearms rotate back and forth.
406
Kind of like he's scrubbing through film reels.
407
This time spent studying the tape will also give him proper
408
knowledge of what spells to throw at Thanos in their upcoming fight.
409
But yes, here is the question we asked.
410
Did Doctor Strange look all the way into the future beyond Endgame to see Doctor Doom in Doomsday in this moment?
411
Well, Doomsday and Secret Wars are going to give us more context to what Doctor Strange knew and when he knew it.
412
But I think a key detail we have to remember when it comes to the usage of the Time Stone, the user of the Time Stone can only see their own future or their own past.
413
Because using the Time Stone has to fast forward or rewind a specific being.
414
So when Strange fast forward into the future, since he got dusted, he would have had to skip past this dark period that he would have been unable to see.
415
It would have gone straight from the moment he dusted on Titan to the moment he undusted five years later, went through one of Wong's portals, and showed up on the Battle of Earth.
416
But using the Time Stone to glimpse into the future doesn't give you omniscience to everything that happens everywhere in that future.
417
So for the purposes of Tony Stark here, Stephen Strange was only able to see himself in the future in the Battle of Earth in
418
that moment that he told Tony Stark that he would have to sacrifice himself
419
and specifically Tony Stark's sacrificial play in his death.
420
And that's probably the source of Doctor Strange's nerves here
421
because he understands that at some point he's going to have to tell this guy that he's going to have to die.
422
It's also crazy to consider that Doctor Strange knows that in order to make all of this possible, in order to have any kind of reality on the other side of that blackout period, that he would have to surrender the Time Stone
423
and kind of let Thanos win so that there would be one reality on the other side of that, meaning that the surviving Avengers figured out some way around it.
424
And that Doctor Strange, once he glimpsed ahead to that moment in October 2023, was able to deduce that the surviving Avengers must have used time travel,
425
a time heist, to bring back stones that would have been otherwise destroyed.
426
But either way, Doctor Strange is so nervous, partly because he knows that Tony Stark is going to have to sacrifice himself.
427
But by extending that logic, using the Time Stone on yourself only gives you a vision of where you are in the future.
428
Maybe Strange also looked further and got a glimpse of himself in the events of Multiverse of Madness,
429
learning about incursions, and then eventually serving someone else in an unfamiliar kingdom with his hair in a ponytail.
430
So rather than recognizing the face he's seeing now as the face of the Doctor Doom figure he was serving, I just think Strange might sense a kind of familiarity,
431
that there's some kind of cosmic connection between the really creepy beyond, beyond fate that he saw and where he is right now.
432
He's just a little confused.
433
On Vormir, Thanos and Gamora encounter Red Skull, the big surprise cameo of this movie.
434
Red Skull was teleported right here by the Space Stone
435
that was held inside of the Tesseract when he held it in Captain America the First Avenger.
436
Now he floats like a ghostly figure.
437
Red Skull is played here by Ross Marquand, replacing Hugo Weaving from the first Captain America movie.
438
Marquand is a prolific voice actor, providing the voice of Ultron in the animated What If series and Professor X and Apocalypse on X -Men 97.
439
He says, Thanos' father was Alars, an Eternal.
440
We didn't learn anything new about Thanos in the Eternals film, but we did meet his adopted brother Starfox, who is an Eternal who fled Titan before it was destroyed.
441
Because there were Eternals on Titan, does that mean that there was also a Celestial Seed inside of that planet?
442
And because life on Titan died out due to lack of resources, does that mean that the Celestial Seed inside of it never grew?
443
Maybe that's what Thanos was up to all along, trying to stop these dang Celestials from hatching by reducing populations.
444
In this moment, Thanos puts his hand back to keep Gamora behind him, a protective instinct setting up his coming sacrifice of her as even more heartbreaking.
445
And the fact that Red Skull identified her as daughter of Thanos, despite him not being her real father and kidnapping her, meaning
446
that he was the truest parental figure to her soul during
447
this whole sequence thanos carries gamora's all things balanced dagger in his belt we only realize it
448
when she snatches it to end her own life
449
but it's another bubbles reality stone illusion meaning that he kept up
450
that illusion the whole time as a trick to just keep her online with the possible failsafe
451
that she would have to take her own life one final
452
lesson in using this dagger as a symbol for his dark
453
understanding of balance i love how thanos's true love tear trickles right into the trench
454
that was already on his cheek as if this guy was designed and naturally selected to mourn.
455
As we see Gamora dead on the bottom of the cliff, if you look closely, you can see bloodstains on the ground around her, meaning that others over the years must have tried to acquire the Soul Stone and failed.
456
Their sacrifices were for nothing, because they didn't really love that much the person they threw off the cliff.
457
Cap and the gang arrive to the Golden City of Wakanda.
458
Bruce embarrasses himself by bowing.
459
He couldn't even pronounce Wakanda a few years ago.
460
Wakanda.
461
Wakanda.
462
Shuri gets to work on vision while T 'Challa brings his forces to face the incoming threat, including getting Steve a shield.
463
Get this man a shield.
464
Steve had left his shield with Tony Stark at the end of Civil War.
465
T 'Challa embraces M 'Baku on the battlefield.
466
M 'Baku will eventually take T 'Challa's place as leader of Wakanda, following the events of Black Panther Wakanda forever.
467
As one of the landing craft crashes into the dome, you can see on War Machine's chest the name Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes, with R .E .T at the end, indicating he's retired from the military.
468
You can also see later that the armor is now marked 004, an upgrade to the Mark III suit in Civil War, and it still bears the Air Force insignia.
469
T 'Challa tells the Black Order, Thanos will have nothing but dust and blood.
470
Solid foreshadowing, Thanos gets his dust and the blood of those he wounds.
471
That victory again comes from Thanos' willingness to trade lives.
472
They're killing themselves.
473
Natasha's concerned look signals her dread.
474
We don't trade lives, but they do?
475
Yeah, they're probably gonna win.
476
The Wakandans chant.
477
Keep on back!
478
Keep on back!
479
This was the war cry that translates to hold or hold fast.
480
We actually heard it first in Black Panther.
481
Keep on back!
482
Keep on back!
483
In that context, it was the River Tribe's call.
484
T 'Challa is saluting and paying respects to his love Nakia, mother of his child.
485
T 'Challa and Cap lead the charge.
486
They both have enhanced speed, but T 'Challa is just a step ahead.
487
The last time they sprinted together, one was chasing the other in Civil War.
488
Now they run together side by side, Cap on his left.
489
E -Tree smashes the Stormbreaker mold, meaning this weapon could never be forged again.
490
The molten Uru also appears to flow into a second forge, which at first I thought was for the back half of the hammer, but both pieces are beside each other when he breaks the mold.
491
Maybe it's the missing handle, but that would be a weird thing to make out of Uru.
492
Just saying, Eitri might have been using the company printer ink for some personal projects.
493
Along the bladed edge of Stormbreaker, Asgardian runes translate to loose the dogs of war, a famous paraphrase from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.
494
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.
495
Groot winces as his branches singe, and he cuts off his arm for the handle.
496
Groot, like Doctor Strange, gets that personal sacrifice as key to victory.
497
And now, anytime Thor swings Stormbreaker, Groot will kind of be at his side.
498
I like the detail in Thor Love and Thunder that Thor ends up planting this handle, kind of like a tree, because it is kind of a living part of Groot.
499
As a Flora Colossi, as Thor calls Stormbreaker, it rises and crackles with lightning, as Thor is the one imbuing it with the power of the God of Thunder.
500
The three ride the Bifrost to Wakanda, leaving the burned symbol on the ground.
501
Bring me Thanos!
502
It's really fun to rewatch this moment.
503
You kind of just want to stand up and clap here.
504
But you have to remember, Thor is kind of the antagonist due to the movie's structure, so this is kind of like Michael Myers showing up in the final fight.
505
Thor's appearance rallies the other heroes, especially Bruce Banner, who is relieved to see his buddy Thor actually did survive that encounter with Thanos on a statesman.
506
Meanwhile on Titan, Thanos arrives to find the Maw dead, but the Time Stone here on Doctor Strange.
507
He explains his mission to Strange.
508
With all six stones, I could simply snap my fingers.
509
They would all cease to exist, and I call that mercy.
510
And then what?
511
I finally rest and watch the sunrise on a grateful universe.
512
The hardest choices require the strongest wills.
513
Perhaps Dr. Doom will feel the same way in Doomsday, making the hard choices to save a universe from destruction.
514
But Doom's desire could be to watch the sunrise on a grateful battle world.
515
Thanos begins to use his stones in these interesting combinations, which you can really tell because they light up when they're being used.
516
He uses the Power Stone to blast through Tony's debris and the Reality Stone to turn that into bats.
517
He combines the Power Stone and the Space Stone to harness fire from Tony's explosives and redirect them as a flamethrower.
518
Everyone begins attacking as Dr. Strange conjures the Sacred Sword of Ashanti to attack the Mad Titan.
519
Strange uses his Cloak of Levitation to stop Thanos from making a fist, while Spider -Man punches and kicks coming through portals.
520
And when that doesn't work, Strange uses a spell known as the Crimson Bands of Sitorak to wrap around the gauntlet, the device used in the New York Sanctum Sanctorum that Strange used to capture Kaecilius,
521
and the first Dr. Strange was also called the Crimson Bands of Sitorak.
522
Peter Quill uses his Gravity Snare on Thanos, the same device that he used to hook the Power Stone orb in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
523
1, using it again to regain a type of stone possession.
524
And I love how the Russos show these inserts where we
525
can see the gauntlet just starting to come off of Thanos' hand.
526
We can see his palm.
527
We were so close to winning.
528
But Peter Quill learns the wrong thing at the wrong time.
529
Where is she?
530
He mourns!
531
What does this monster have to mourn?
532
Amora.
533
What?
534
He took her to Wormir.
535
He came back with the Solstil. that she did it.
536
Tell me you didn't do it.
537
I had to.
538
No, you did it.
539
Stop.
540
Stop.
541
Stop.
542
Now coming out of Mantis's mind sedation, Thanos tosses the heroes off of him and blasts Peter Quill and Drax and Nebula with the Power Stone.
543
But when we come back to Thanos, the Soul Stone is weirdly glowing.
544
That's.. definitely the orange one on his knuckle.
545
Maybe he spared Nebula's soul here, or maybe he needed to combine the soul combination since Peter Quill is half celestial.
546
Thanos uses another stone combination of the power stone to smash up a nearby moon with chunks, and then the space stone to spike all of those chunks down at them.
547
Back in Wakanda, Rocket again shows his interest in spare body parts.
548
How much for the arm?
549
Oh, I'll get that arm.
550
As mentioned before, Nebula will get that arm for Rocket in the Guardians Holiday Special.
551
There's a lot of really fun character vignette moments here.
552
Thor
553
and Steve also catch up as they haven't seen each other since Thor left Earth at the end of Age of Ultron.
554
Wanda comes down to the battlefield
555
and shows off some of her immense chaos magic as she tosses aside the giant mechanical tunneling blades.
556
Okoye rightly quips, Wanda will end up going one -on -one with Thanos later in this movie
557
and then once again during Endgame and hold her own.
558
Banner continues to beg Hulk to come out, but Hulk refuses there actually was a deleted scene during this moment where banner
559
and hulk had a whole conversation in the hulk buster suit
560
and ultimately he would have burst out of it as smart hulk something
561
that was also teased in the promotional images for the movie and the very first teaser in november 2017.
562
smart hulk would have then met sam and natasha in another deleted scene you want to take this one
563
i could decide to show up here we go I learned that That's okay
564
We worked it out In fact, I'd say it's gone from worst case scenario to Well,
565
I don't know if it's best case But at least it feels very,
566
very manageable I hear it too How are we doing out there?
567
We're doing okay.
568
But ultimately, the Russos decided to save Smart Hulk for Avengers Endgame
569
and purposely used shots of Hulk in the trailer
570
that were not in the final film to combat all the spoilers that were coming out ahead of the film's release.
571
Banner uses his handy Hulkbuster arm to clamp onto Cull Obsidian's stump from his severed arm earlier, blasting him off to his death, similar to a move
572
that Tony Stark used on the Hulk with his armor during their battle in Johannesburg in Age of Ultron.
573
Vision also comes full circle in his killing of Corvus Glaive, surprise impaling him with the same weapon that Corvus used on him in Edinburgh.
574
Wanda, Natasha, and Okoye finish off Proxima Midnight, so even though the Avengers lose to Thanos, they do manage to kill off all of the Black Order.
575
Well done.
576
We don't want to kill you.
577
But we will.
578
That's really gross.
579
Back on Titan, we get a badass wizard duel between Thanos
580
and Strange that the writer is actually based on the Vincent Price vs. Boris Karloff duel in The Raven.
581
Strange first fires the bolts of Balthak at Thanos.
582
Thanos replies to the blast from the Power Stone, which Strange blocks with the Mirror Dimension.
583
When he tries to trap Thanos to the Mirror Dimension, Thanos shatters it with the Power Stone and then uses the Space Stone to turn these pieces into a black hole.
584
Strange blocks that with the Shield of Seraphim
585
and then transmutes the pieces into butterflies with a spell known as the Hoary Hosts of Hogoth.
586
It's an effect similar to Thanos' bats, just much sweeter.
587
The writers also revealed
588
that Strange was originally going to drag Thanos into a vision of the bones of his victims
589
and a trial with the Living Tribunal, judging him guilty.
590
You can see some of this in the official concept art book.
591
Strange uses his Images of Icon spell to duplicate himself, but Thanos uses the Soul Stone again to identify
592
which Strange is the real one and the Power Stone to wipe out all of the duplicates.
593
Since these were actual copies of Strange and not just projected illusions like Loki would create, you can actually see the multiple souls quickly jumping back into
594
strange's prime body similar to a soul returning after an astral projection thanos then uses the space stone
595
and reality stone to pull strange into his grasp moving all of the space around him
596
and under his feet as well
597
so now the fight spilled over into a tony stark versus thanos fight
598
and this fight actually echoes tony's past foes in reverse order
599
he has a thruster powered hook like his shotgun armor against
600
aldrich killian in iron man 3 this actually cuts thanos all
601
that for a drop of blood echoing iron man 2 whiplash's line
602
if you can make god bleed then people will cease to believe in him
603
and then after stabbing tony thanos tilts over paralyzed tony just
604
like obadiah stain did in the first iron man thanos smartly focuses on tony stark's head during this battle knowing
605
that he would waste nanobots protecting his brain strange gives up
606
the time stone to save tony stark knowing it's going to be part of the one plan that he saw working.
607
And that future of the endgame of this grand chess match is what Doctor Strange references here with this line.
608
We're in the endgame now.
609
Back in Wakanda, Steve is actually able to hold back Thanos.
610
I like how Josh Brolin includes a subtle look of surprise and kind of respect that this Terran can hold him back.
611
We see Thanos doing the slow motion certain death march.
612
And while he could completely kill every person he faces, I kind of like the detail that he spares their lives, knowing that the fair, cruel justice of just snapping the six stones will select
613
which of them were designed to live and die.
614
He really doesn't want to take any more lives than he has to here.
615
Wanda starts to destroy the Mind Stone while holding back Thanos and his five Infinity Stones.
616
This woman is strong.
617
She manages to kill Vision, one of his many deaths to come in the MCU.
618
Thanos brings him back with the Time Stone and then kills him again by yanking out the Mind Stone.
619
Vision's lifeless body will be brought back to life by Tyler Hayward at Sword in the WandaVision series, and that White Vision will return to Edinburgh for Vision Quest.
620
Thor throws Stormbreaker at Thanos, which is able to cut through the power of all six Infinity Stones,
621
which means that Doctor Doom must be incredibly powerful to stop that same axe with only his finger in Doomsday.
622
But Thor is blinded by vengeance, and he surrenders the hero title to Thanos, because victory would have been his if he aimed a little higher.
623
You should have gone for the head.
624
i love thor's no like any crazy antagonist the moment he gets defeated
625
thanos arrives in the soul stone realm to be teased by young gamora presumably smart hulk
626
and tony went there too after their snaps in endgame they
627
did film a deleted scene with tony stark meeting a grown -up morgan in the soul stone realm
628
and i think the filmmaker said that when Hulk went there he saw Natasha.
629
Thanos portals away
630
and you can see a green glow on his wound suggesting
631
he might be using the time stone to reverse the injury somewhat.
632
There's also some red glow in there to suggest he's using the reality stone to somehow warp the wound.
633
Really all the stones are glowing here
634
and all the colors can be seen in the wound suggesting it takes all six stones combined to shake out Stormbreaker here.
635
For the dusting the VFX artists settled on desaturated dust to
636
connect with the spiritual ashes to ashes dust to dust concept
637
but also to make it easy for the particles to disappear into the background, the floor, the street.
638
It's not like piles of ash, it's just kind of dust scattered amongst the soil and then gone.
639
James Gunn later tweeted that Groot's final I am Groot to rock it translates to dad.
640
Wanda throws her head back in anguish, her last thought being her murdered love.
641
On Titan, Dave Bautista delivers a heartbreakingly high -pitched quill as his final word.
642
Dr. Strange assures Tony that there was no other way, but maybe he should have found some other way to spell
643
out the entire plan to him first you know at least give tony a heads up
644

651
that peter parker knows this is happening as opposed to being caught by surprise Peter looks up at Tony and says, and then he fades.
652
Actually, if you watch this clip with IMAX aspect ratio, Tony Stark's hand is clearly a digital artifact, and it kind of goes unnaturally rigid, and just kind of yips right out of the frame.
653
Afterwards, Tony looks at this hand and holds it to his face, trying to embrace the dust that actually just slipped through his fingers.
654
Back on his garden farm planet, Thanos watches the sun rise, just as he promised.
655
And then what?
656
I finally rest.
657
and watch the sun rise on a grateful universe.
658
A god resting on the seventh day.
659
In the corner, we see his armor hanging as a scarecrow, just like Farmer Thanos in Jim Starlin's comics.
660
We get a post -credits scene of Nick Fury using a souped -up pager to call for Captain Marvel, who would be introduced between Infinity War and Endgame.
661
Now, those people who dusted from the helicopter, which then crashed, are they going to be okay when they get snapped back into existence?
662
Yes, the filmmaker said that Hulk's wish in Endgame was for everyone to come back safely.
663
Everyone ends this movie on their asses the avengers feel the
664
sting of the lives they fought to never trade now just dead in their hands anyway
665
but thanos also feels the pain of sacrifice as gamora told him what did it cost
666
everything but ultimately he wins this
667
because he actually faces the morning okay we have now caught

- "I went forward in time to view alternate futures"：「未来に行って、別の可能性のある未来を見た」。"alternate futures"は「代替的な未来」という意味で、映画やSFの文脈でよく使われます。
- "turns the legs to jelly"：「足がぶるぶる震える」。
ビデオの中でタノスが「I know what it's like to lose. Turns the legs to jelly.」
