6
Let's dive right in!
7
So, in Korean, there are different ways to speak depending on how close you are to the other person Casual, polite, and formal Today, we'll focus on the 'Polite Form' Why?
8
Because in daily conversation, polite form is used more than 90% of the time It's very easy to recognize Polite sentences always end with '요 Yo' Like, 사랑해요 [sa rang hae yo] 안녕하세요 [an nyeong ha se yo] Like this. Got it?
9
So, if a sentence ends with '요 Yo' you can instantly think, 'They are speaking politely to me! 😆' Like that Now, we are ready to learn 7 essential expressions you need to introduce yourself in Korean First, Hello! 안녕하세요! [an nyeong ha se yo] In Korea, when you greet someone who isn't your close friend it's common to bow slightly like this to show respect The deeper you bow, the more polite and respectful you appear In daily life, just a gentle nod like this is enough So, say this!
10
안녕하세요 [an nyeong ha se yo] And second, nice to meet you 반가워요 [ban ga wo yo] After you say hello it's great to express that you're happy to meet the other person, right?
11
Simply say 반가워요 [ban ga wo yo] And Third, What's your name? 이름이 뭐예요? [i ru mi - mwo ye yo] And if you want to tell them your name, you say '저는 <Your Name> 이에요.' [jeo neun - <Your Name> i ye yo] In the case of J-Hope 저는 J-Hope이에요. [jeo neun - <J-Hope> i ye yo] And my name is Youseop So, 저는 Youseop이에요. [jeo neun - <Youseop> i ye yo] If she can speak, she's Maru Her name is Maru, so Maru, please introduce yourself to them 😉🐶 저는 Maru예요.
12
Great! And what is his name?
13
His name is Jin So, if I ask him What is your name? 이름이 뭐예요? [i ru mi - mwo ye yo] Then he'll answer like this 저는 Jin이에요 [jeo neun - <Jin> i ye yo] Now, it's your turn Let me ask what your name is What is your name? 이름이 뭐예요? [i ru mi - mwo ye yo] I'm listening Go ahead Oh, that's a pretty name I got it Thank you!
14
And next, people often ask about where you're from You can ask Where are you from? 어디에서 왔어요? [eo di e seo - wa sseo yo] And respond by saying 저는 <Your country>에서 왔어요 [jeo neun - <Your Country> e seo - wa sseo yo] For example, I'm from Korea Korea in Korean is 한국 [Hanguk] I can say like this 저는 한국에서 왔어요 [jeo neun - <Hanguk> e seo - wa sseo yo] I'll give you four countries as examples First, the United States In Korean, it is 미국 [Miguk] If you are from United States, then you can say 저는 미국에서 왔어요 [jeo neun - <Miguk> e seo - wa sseo yo] Next, India! 🇮🇳 India is 인도[indo] in Korean So 저는 인도에서 왔어요 [jeo neun - <Indo> e seo - wa sseo yo] If you're from Italy 🇮🇹 저는 이탈리아에서 왔어요 [jeo neun - <i tal li a> e seo - wa sseo yo] If you're from France 🇫🇷 저는 프랑스에서 왔어요 [jeo neun - <Peu rang seu> e seo - wa sseo yo] Usually, country names sound very similar in Korean If you want to know exactly how your country's name sounds in Korean, just leave a comment I'll help you Next!
15
Talking about hobbies is a great way to make friends, right?
16
So what's your hobby?
17
What do you do for fun?
18
취미가 뭐예요? [chwi mi ga - mwo ye yo] You can say things like 여행 [yeo hang] 여행 좋아해요 [yeo hang - jo a hae yo] I like traveling 여행 좋아해요 [yeo hang - jo a hae yo] 넷플릭스 [net peul lik seu] I watch Netflix 넷플릭스 봐요 [net peul lik seu - bwa yo] 드라마 봐요 [deu ra ma - bwa yo] 드라마 좋아해요 [deu ra ma - jo a hae yo] 드라마 사랑해요 [deu ra ma - sa rang hae yo] And do you like cooking?
19
Then say this!
20
I like cooking 요리 좋아해요 [yo ri - jo a hae yo] If you want to ask someone if they like cooking, just slightly raise your tone at the end of the sentence like this Do you like cooking? 요리 좋아해요? [yo ri - jo a hae yo] When you raise your tone at the end, it becomes a question Do you like cooking? 요리 좋아해요? [yo ri - jo a hae yo] And if you keep your tone flat, it's just a normal sentence I like cooking. 요리 좋아해요. [yo ri - jo a hae yo] So, let me ask you again Do you like cooking? 요리 좋아해요? [yo ri - jo a hae yo] Oh, do you like cooking?! 요리 좋아해요?! [yo ri - jo a hae yo] I like cooking too. 저도 요리 좋아해요! 😆 [jeo do - yo ri - jo a hae yo] Yeah, fist bump 👊 Great!
21
Next Let's learn two more sentences together Stay with me Always good to check how they are feeling, right?
22
So, How are you? 잘 지내요? [jal - ji nae yo] And as I told you, if you keep your tongue flat like this, I'm doing well. 잘 지내요. [jal - ji nae yo] It means I'm doing well. All good. 잘 지내요 [jal - ji nae yo] So one more time All good? 잘 지내요? [jal - ji nae yo] All good. 네, 잘 지내요. [ne, jal - ji nae yo] I'm doing well 잘 지내요. [jal - ji nae yo] Great Almost there The last sentence Say Goodbye 잘 가요 👋 [jal - ga yo] It's a warm and friendly way to say goodbye in Korean Goodbye 잘 가요 [jal - ga yo] Now you're ready to introduce yourself in Korean Let's take a look at how we can use this sentence in a conversation His name is John Let's listen to the conversation with me and John Are you ready?

英語では「What’s your name?」を使うことで、相手に興味を示すことができます。
  • 出身地の説明: 「私は<国名>から来ました」は 저는 <国名>에서 왔어요 (チョヌン <国名>エソ ワッソヨ) です。この構造は、英語でも「I’m from 」と同様の形で使えます。
  • 趣味を聞く: 「趣味は何ですか?」は 취미가 뭐예요? (チュミガ モエヨ) という表現で、盛り上がりのきっかけになります。英語で「What’s your hobby?」
