1
I built my tiny house at 19 years old,
2
and it's truly such a luxury,
3
and it's a lot better than renting.
4
There was this empty space of forest where my house was going to be,
5
and then within a couple days there was like a massive structure.
6
Very quickly I got to see the house come alive.
7
My kitchen is awesome because it's pink.
8
When am I ever going to have a better opportunity to have a pink kitchen than right now?
9
My mom built this piece of furniture,
10
which is just so insane.
11
She's like my DIY queen.
12
Welcome to my loft.
13
It is kind of a tight squeeze, but it's worth it.
14
It's my first home, and it's a place that brings me a lot of comfort and peace.
15
It's everything I dreamed of.
16
Hi, I'm Annie, and this is my tiny house.
17
when i was 19 years old i actually moved away from home
18
and i tried renting for a little bit and i realized very quickly
19
that it just didn't feel permanent enough
20
and it was a lot of money just like leaving me
21
and it didn't really feel like it was investing toward my
22
future i realized i really just need like a permanent place
23
that i can live right now i just need a small little space
24
and so my parents were like come and build a tiny house on our property and come live with us.
25
Within a couple months, we built my house that I'm living in now and I don't pay rent.
26
I can steal my parents' milk and eggs whenever I want
27
and it's truly such a luxury and it's a lot better than renting.
28
Before we decided to build a tiny house,
29
we were just going to buy one.
30
A lot of the tiny houses that we were touring were a lot of money and they were really small.
31
That's when it occurred to us we should just build our own
32
because we can ensure that the quality is like a hundred percent.
33
We bought the plans for the house on Etsy.
34
We basically found a little 300 square foot house that had a little loft and a kitchen and a living room,
35
dining room, all the things that I knew I needed.
36
And then we kind of modified it a little bit,
37
but the actual structure itself was up within like a couple of days.
38
It was so cool because there was this empty space of forest where my house was going to be.
39
And then within a couple of days,
40
there was like a massive structure
41
and very quickly I got to see the house come alive which was just like so exciting.
42
So my tiny house was $45,000 to build which comparative to the like $60,000 to $80,000
43
houses that we were gonna buy that felt like a steal especially
44
because it's such good quality and it truly is gonna last forever.
45
We did keep a spreadsheet of all of the costs for the house including all the extra stuff like electric,
46
plumbing, and then of course furnishing it.
47
We kind of make do where you can.
48
You save where you can,
49
but then also you've got to splurge where you can.
50
So I've now been living in the house for a year and a half.
51
Even though it's like 100 feet from my parents,
52
there is an added level of like newfound independence.
53
There are just little adult things that I'm having to take care of that aren't as glamorous and as fun,
54
but I really do love just taking care of my own house.
55
So I think I've learned just like how great it is to cultivate like my own space.
56
I truly just love this house.
57
So this is my tiny house.
58
This is what it looks like.
59
For the longest time, my house was just plain white.
60
And recently we redid the windows to be blue and we added these fun flowers.
61
So everything is my colorful dream and I just love I'll take you to the back over here.
62
If you go up the steps,
63
this is my back porch.
64
When we built this tiny house,
65
the most important thing to me was having a back porch because I just love to have my mornings outside.
66
And so this is just like my dream come true.
67
I love it so much.
68
When we built the tiny house,
69
I also really wanted double doors
70
because I just love the experience of opening up a slide door
71
and there's all this natural light coming through
72
and then I step out onto the porch and it's just like so magical and that's exactly what we did.
73
Okay, we're going to make our way inside.
74
This is my beautiful blue door.
75
This is the front of my tiny house.
76
This is my little doorway.
77
It's honestly really spacious, which I really appreciate.
78
I have a rack for all of my shoes.
79
It doesn't fit all of my shoes,
80
but it's typically just my daily shoes.
81
And this makes it really easy just to grab the things that I need very quickly.
82
I also have a hook here to hang up all of my bags.
83
Again, makes it very convenient.
84
I just grab my bags and go.
85
Then right in the entrance, there is my bathroom.
86
When we were first building the bathroom,
87
I was definitely concerned that it was going to be a little bit too tight,
88
but it's honestly not bad, especially after you adjust.
89
It's really not that bad.
90
My shower is pretty small.
91
This is how much space there is.
92
It's not a lot.
93
I've never really been the kind of person though,
94
who like really looked forward to like a luxury shower at the end of the day.
95
So it's honestly not a big deal.
96
I have my little toilet and then this is my counter space.
97
I have a lot of counter space,
98
which I really appreciate getting ready in the morning is not really an issue.
99
My sink is also really small,
100
which helps with the counter space.
101
The only thing that I dislike about this sink is it's really loud.
102
Like it's extremely loud.
103
If you hit something on the sink,
104
it kind of sounds like a gong.
105
I'm like, oh my gosh, it's kind of intense.
106
But I also have a lot of storage with my mirror.
107
I have this little cabinet here that I can store a lot of things.
108
Over here is the kitchen.
109
My kitchen is awesome because it's pink.
110
And I asked myself, I was like,
111
when am I ever going to have a better opportunity to have a pink kitchen than right now?
112
So I've had these pink kitchen cabinets for a couple months now,
113
and I wouldn't go back to plain old white ever again.
114
I love it.
115
I love color.
116
I have some floating shelves.
117
This is where keep all of my dishes and my cups.
118
There's a really decent amount of space and I honestly don't use too much so I've never had a problem.
119
These floating shelves are super nice and sturdy.
120
I have a lot of cabinet space as well.
121
These cabinets are from Ikea.
122
We built the whole thing without a top.
123
My mom added this countertop in herself and I really like
124
that it's like yes we have Ikea drawers but then we have like actual wood countertops.
125
It helps it just feel really nice, really finished.
126
We also raised the whole kitchen up about an inch
127
because I'm like 5'8 and I really didn't want to be like uncomfortably bent over when I was using the countertops.
128
So it's like a customizable height for me,
129
which is just like so, so great.
130
In this cabinet right here,
131
I have my air fryer oven slash microwave.
132
I never really felt like I was missing out not having a stove
133
because this thing just does so much and I just love it.
134
I have my sink right here and I have this beautiful window above my sink.
135
I love how much greenery I can see from my sink,
136
especially on sunny days.
137
The sun comes through and it's so, so beautiful.
138
The curtains that we use for my window, we actually sewed ourselves.
139
I really wanted this specific pattern and I couldn't find it anywhere.
140
And so we were like,
141
we're just going to make our own.
142
A lot of this house is very like a DIY.
143
That's mainly because of my mom.
144
She's like my DIY queen and I am the Pinterest board queen.
145
So I'll be like, I found this on Pinterest.
146
Can you make it?
147
And she'll be like, yes.
148
So I love that.
149
She's so awesome.
150
This is where I keep a lot of my food.
151
I don't know how I've managed to keep my pantry down to just three cabinets,
152
but I have.
153
It's kind of crazy.
154
It's not super organized, but like this is kind of what it looks like.
155
Lots of boxes, lots of food like any other pantry.
156
Then I have a little mini fridge here.
157
My only problem with the fridge is that it doesn't have a freezer.
158
I don't really use that many things that require a freezer,
159
so it's not that big of a deal.
160
On this side of my kitchen,
161
I have this amazing coffee bar.
162
This is actually the latest addition to my tiny house.
163
My mom built this piece of furniture,
164
which is just so insane.
165
She's like the most crafty woman I've ever met.
166
She built this coffee bar for me because I actually used to be a barista and I missed the experience so much.
167
I miss like actually making your coffee in the morning rather than just clicking a couple buttons.
168
So we recreated that experience at home.
169
Down here I have storage for extra glasses and mugs and then I have more syrup and more coffee beans.
170
I'll probably fill this up more as time goes on but right now it's pretty minimal.
171
Then over here I just gotta say I love how tall the ceilings are.
172
we added this window this is unique from the plans
173
that we bought we just knew like with this much open
174
space we've got to have an extra window we've got to
175
and I'm so glad we did that because it makes the natural lighting just
176
so much better it's already a little bit dark in the house sometimes
177
because I'm surrounded by trees and so without that window I think it'd be really dark in here.
178
So my dining area is so, so nice.
179
I have this beautiful, amazing wood table.
180
My mom refurnished this a little bit.
181
It used to be like a heavy, dark orange.
182
And now it's like this light birch wood,
183
which is, it's just so pretty.
184
Some amazing farmhouse chairs.
185
I got these on Facebook Marketplace for $20 for all three of them together,
186
which was like the steel of the century because they're so awesome.
187
Then over here is the little living room area.
188
This is where I get to do all of my editing.
189
I do a lot of my work here.
190
I read here.
191
It's just so cozy and so comfy.
192
I have this singular person chair.
193
This is one of my favorite chairs ever.
194
It's like the perfect mix of comfy, but also like firm.
195
So I don't feel like I'm just falling into the chair,
196
if that makes sense.
197
You know, when something's too comfortable and you feel like you're just going to sit there and rot all day.
198
This is like a good productivity chair.
199
So I started posting on YouTube when I was nine years old and now I'm 20.
200
So that is like a big chunk of my life that I've been a YouTuber.
201
Being on social media has helped me have so much freedom financially and just in my lifestyle.
202
Growing up, I always remodeled my bedroom like every single season.
203
So like basically four to five times a year,
204
I was completely redoing my entire bedroom and changing the style.
205
And so when I built my tiny house at 19 years old,
206
it felt like just kind of a natural progression of how I've always lived my life,
207
which is like with a lot of change and a of color
208
and a lot of house design it's been really fun documenting
209
the experience of like building my tiny house living in my tiny house
210
and then remodeling my tiny house whenever i feel like it on my youtube channel
211
because it's just so similar to who i've always been
212
and what i've always done
213
so then down here i have another little piece of storage this has a lot of clothing in it sweaters
214
and ub boots and comfy socks
215
and stuff stored in here i just don't want them taking up of space in my closet
216
while it's not the right season.
217
Also in my living room, I have my closet.
218
It is really sturdy, but it's not connected to the house.
219
So like if I want to switch it out or redesign it at any point in my life,
220
I can, but it feels pretty permanent.
221
This is also for more seasonal stuff.
222
It doesn't really open all the way because of the couch,
223
but I have a lot of extra jackets and sweaters.
224
I would say out of 10,
225
it's like a seven organization wise.
226
Typically it's messier.
227
So I had to organize because I knew you guys were coming.
228
I have these awesome pullout drawers.
229
They have so much space,
230
like truly so much space.
231
I'm also really good about like when I know that I'm done wearing a piece of clothing,
232
I'm like, I do not wear it anymore.
233
I pretty much move it,
234
put it in storage or put it somewhere else.
235
So it doesn't get too cluttered here.
236
Okay.
237
This is the ladder that goes up to my loft.
238
I love having a loft bed.
239
It's so cozy it's so awesome i think everyone should do it truly it's
240
so awesome the ladder itself is
241
so pretty a lot of people are scared to go up the ladder at first
242
but once you get in the hang of it like i forget
243
that i'm going up and down a ladder every day it's like not a big deal
244
welcome to my loft it's
245
so cozy up here i like the color scheme a lot it's honestly kind of a fall vibe
246
which i feel like is pretty different from the rest of the house
247
but i feel like for sleeping this is
248
so cozy it is kind of a tight squeeze especially
249
when i'm trying to switch out my sheets
250
or like clean my bedding it's kind of a workout
251
and i'll make vlogs about it and like the whole time i'm just like huffing
252
and puffing and i'm like this is so much work
253
but it's worth it because waking up here you just feel like you're
254
so protected and oh my gosh don't even get me started on
255
when it rains it's
256
so cozy i have these big windows here this is what
257
i was like the most excited for is to wake up and just see the outdoors.
258
It's everything I dreamed of.
259
So then over here next to my bed, this is comfy.
260
I have a little organizer here.
261
I can keep some books.
262
I have this lamp that's very cozy.
263
I have a room spray because I'm extra and I like to put room spray up here.
264
I also have this little board.
265
This is where I write down all of my prayers
266
and just kind of the things that I'm hoping for and thinking about.
267
And it's really fun because I'm a very visual person and I like seeing everything.
268
And a lot of times when I go to look at it,
269
I realize that something's kind of been answered or something's been fixed.
270
And so I'll take it off the board because I don't need to keep praying for it because it already happened.
271
And it's just nice to have this visual representation of like how my life is moving and how it's going.
272
But it's very, very, very cozy.
273
And anyone that I've had come sleep over with me, they love it.
274
If I was talking to my even younger self,
275
I would probably say build a tiny house right now.
276
Because the sooner that you do it, the better.
277
It's such like a creative adventure.
278
I would also say don't be limited by your thinking.
279
Like if buying a tiny house is going to be too expensive,
280
then you can just build one.
281
Or if finding the right builder is too hard, just keep on researching.
282
Like you'll find all of the things you need to make your dream come alive.
283
To me, my tiny house is just comforting.
284
Like after a long day when I've been gone,
285
I come home and it smells like me and it's exactly what I want.
286
When I go out in the world,
287
I have like more of a calm and a peace in me.
288
It's my first home and it's a place
289
that brings me a lot of comfort and peace and I just love it here.
