Today we're going on a magical journey to discover what clouds are made of.

Clouds look fluffy like cotton, but they're not cotton at all.

Clouds are made of tiny pieces of water, so tiny that we can't see them separately.

When the sun warms oceans, lakes, or even puddles, the water gets warmer and warmer.

Warm water starts to move faster and faster until tiny droplets jump into the air.

They turn into invisible water vapor.

It's like the droplets say, "We're warm!

Time to fly !" and they float up into the sky.

The vapor rises because warm air is lighter than cold air.

Like balloons, it floats up, up, up to the colder parts of the sky.

High in the sky, the air is very cold.

When the warm vapor reaches the cold air, it cools down and turns back into tiny water droplets or tiny ice crystals.

They stick together, and that's how a cloud is born.

Some clouds are puffy like marshmallows, some are thin like feathers.

Their shape changes depending on how high they are and how cold the sky is.

Inside a cloud, droplets keep joining together.

When they get big and heavy, they fall down as rain.

Rain clouds look darker because they hold lots of water.

And here's the amazing part: this never stops.

After rain falls to the ground, the sun warms the water again.

The water turns into vapor, rises, cools, becomes clouds, and falls again, up and down, up and down,

like nature's big, gentle heartbeat.

This is called the water cycle.
