1
I know the night has been long and some of you want to party.
2
Thank you.
3
Thank you.
4
But I want you to know that I have a group of angels that always surround me and they raise me up
5
And sometimes, when I don't feel all that great, they'll say, bitch, please.
6
So December 20th, 1981, I made my Broadway debut.
7
That is such a lie.
8
I actually made my Broadway debut in one of two flops that were just too disastrous to mention.
9
And so I claimed Dreamgirls as the debut.
10
That was the best and the worst time of my whole life.
11
The best of course was being the belle of the ball on Broadway.
12
Anybody who was anybody was coming to see the dreams.
13
Couldn't get a cab once the curtain came down but that's a whole nother story.
14
But in the midst of that amazing time in my life came the worst
15
and that was when my friends just started dropping dead they were sick today
16
and dead tomorrow they were sick today and dead tomorrow and
17
when you would go to the hospital to look for your
18
friend they would be out in the hallway on a gurney
19
pushed up against a wall dying for help dying for love dying to be seen
20
and some of them with that sign on their gurney
21
that said do not touch and they suffered
22
and people wanted to act like they hadn't been good people kind people wonderful people somebody's son somebody's daughter
23
somebody people good people kind people people of all religions faiths
24
and belief took comfort in pointing fingers saying they them those
25
all of you that's what you get that's what you deserve ah
26
that was 40 years ago 40 years ago human rights campaign
27
was happy to have just 300 people in the room 40 years ago,
28
but look what organization, look what strategizing,
29
look what opening your hearts and minds up to people who don't look like you can do.
30
H .R .C.
31
3 ,000 people!
32
And I want to remind you, you married somebody that you love, huh?
33
You got rights?
34
Just because you have rights today does not mean that you will have rights tomorrow.
35
don't sit there in your happiness don't sit there in your privilege don't sit there looking
36
so good thinking that you think the fight is over the fight has just begun
