34
that you probably haven't heard about so don't forget to join
35
that newsletter again link down below so without further ado let's get into the video
36
so what even is cortisol and why is it
37
so important for your glarp so cortisol is actually your body's stress hormone
38
and i feel like cortisol gets a really bad rep
39
but it's actually a very essential hormone we need it we need
40
that hormone to wake us up in the morning we need it to give us energy
41
and to motivate us for the day.
42
And in a healthy body, that cortisol elevates in the morning
43
and it will naturally start to drop down during the day
44
so that your body can naturally unwind and have a restful night's sleep.
45
That is the rhythm that our bodies are designed to follow.
46
Now, the problem is most of us women these days are living in a state of chronic low-grade stress
47
and your body literally cannot tell the difference between a deadline and a lion trying to kill you.
48
We still have a very ancestral system in us
49
and our body still reacts to small things as if it's a huge catastrophe, as if it's literally life-threatening.
50
And it will keep pumping out that cortisol to try and protect you from that perceived threat.
51
And when that happens, when your cortisol is consistently elevated, it literally wrecks everything.
52
And here's the thing that most people won't tell you.
53
Cortisol doesn't just make you feel stressed, okay?
54
Elevated cortisol has an impact on your skin, on your hormones, on your gut, on your mood, on your cycle, literally on everything.
55
And honestly, I wish someone told me this at the start of my glove journey
56
because it would not have taken me years to feel like the best version of me.
57
That was the missing piece for me.
58
And we don't understand this as women.
59
We cannot handle stress as well as men do.
60
We are not primed and designed for it.
61
Men thrive on stress.
62
And for us women, stress literally ruins our glove.
63
It ruins us from the inside out.
64
And when I tell you I was that girl who spent thousands of pounds
65
and so much time and effort into all the supplements, the PTs, the diets.
66
Oh my gosh.
67
And I was hitting a wall every time.
68
I was not understanding why is nothing working for me?
69
Why am I lifting weights and I'm just puffy?
70
Why am I doing Pilates and not looking like a Pilates princess?
71
why am I eating so healthy
72
and I'm just inflamed I would literally take a sip of water
73
and be bloated I was like what is happening maybe it's just genetic honestly I got to
74
that conclusion at one point I was like well it's just
75
genetic I'm just not meant to look good maybe I should just stop there
76
and it wasn't until I fixed my cortisol
77
and my nervous system weight dropped without even trying no joke
78
inflammation gone gut problems gone skin the best skin I've ever had people ask me
79
oh my gosh do you do lasers
80
and facials I'm like no like I could use good skincare don't get me wrong
81
but I did back then too and everything is just working as it should
82
and until you understand this as a woman until you understand
83
that your relationship with your cortisol literally is detrimental to your
84
glow up to how good you feel you will not feel
85
like the best version of you it is physically physiologically biologically impossible for you to glow you need to understand
86
that cortisol is the culprit it's the missing piece of your glove
87
and we are just
88
so conditioned i think in this world to just rush we
89
live in a society where being busy overworked you know it's a sign of success it's a sign
90
that you're doing the correct things if you burn out and you're You're pushing your body to the hardest every single week, every single day.
91
That is how you will look good.
92
That is how you will succeed in life.
93
And for us women, it is not the same.
94
Okay?
95
This society is rigged.
96
It's rigged for women.
97
It's not for us.
98
We do not thrive like this.
99
We are trying to live like men.
100
I've said it in so many of my videos.
101
I sound like a broken record, but I will say it until I'm blue in the face.
102
You are not a man.
103
You cannot treat your body the same as a man.
104
When you understand this, you will glow up.
105
Okay, without any further ado, let's get into the seven signs that will show you that your cortisol is too high.
106
Okay, so number one, you feel like you're sleeping and you get pretty much enough sleep in, but you wake up exhausted,
107
even though with the amount of sleep that you're getting, let's say seven to eight hours, you should be rested.
108
Number two, you're wired but tired all the time You feel exhausted
109
because your life is busy
110
But at the same time you cannot switch off You feel physically tired
111
but mentally you cannot come down And this is one of the biggest signs
112
that your cortisol is dysregulated You have too much cortisol circling around in your body It means
113
that your nervous system is stuck in that overdrive Number three,
114
the most annoying one You have excess fat that you cannot get rid of especially around your stomach area.
115
Frustrating thing here is working out makes it harder.
116
The harder you work out, the more stress that you put into your body.
117
If you are trying to get rid of your stomach fat by excessively working out, you might notice that A, it won't budge and B,
118
it will actually slowly get worse because stress can come from all sorts of things, including high intensity workouts.
119
So if you are working out really intensely and you're not getting that stomach fat to budge,
120
It's because you're just adding more stress onto a body that is already stressed.
121
You're actually doing yourself a disservice.
122
You're doing the opposite.
123
If you're that person who eats healthy and you work out a lot, intense or not intense, and you just cannot budge that stomach fat, that is not a willpower problem
124
that it's not a diet problem it's not you know you're
125
not doing enough exercise problem it is a cortisol problem number four your skin is inflamed
126
or it's breaking out or it just generally feels a bit dull cortisol is actually inflammatory
127
and when it's consistently high it also breaks down your collagen it impairs your skin barrier
128
and on top of it it triggers that hormonal acne So I feel like when a woman is stressed, she looks so much older.
129
There are pictures that I look back on from two years ago when I was extremely stressed with my business.
130
And I look so much older than I do now.
131
And I was getting Botox back then and I'm getting Botox now.
132
There's no difference there.
133
But I just look old.
134
I look puffy and my skin had spots everywhere.
135
I was inflamed.
136
And again, I didn't understand.
137
I was using the right skincare nothing was working, cortisol 100% was the culprit.
138
So if you're
139
that girl who was using all the good skincare in the world for your appropriate skin type
140
and it's just not helping you, again it's a cortisol problem, no skincare will fix that, it's an inside job.
141
Number five, your cycle is irregular, your periods are painful and you struggle with PMS.
142
PMS, painful periods and irregular cycles, not normal okay I can tell you
143
that from someone who used to have the most irregular periods painful periods I'm actually currently on my period TMI
144
but we talk about all the girly things on this channel
145
and I'm thriving yes it's you know I can feel it it's there
146
but it doesn't stop me from doing my life I don't
147
get any PMS I don't get any painful period pains nothing
148
and that is how periods should be high cortisol actually suppresses your progesterone
149
which is your calming feminine hormone and
150
when progesterone drops you will get what we call estrogen dominance
151
which can result in those painful periods the bloating the pms
152
out of control it can actually also cause you having those
153
extreme mood swings like don't get me wrong we are irritable okay the week before our periods
154
and on our periods but you should not have intense mood swings
155
and really intense emotions that is actually a sign of
156
that cortisol wreaking havoc on your hormones and having an imbalance
157
and the wrong hormone actually being dominant in the part of the cycle
158
that it should not be dominant number six you are very irritable
159
and anxious for no reason if you find yourself snapping
160
and feeling very low and having anxiety over things
161
that don't logically make sense for you to be stressed over it means
162
that your nervous system is on high alert
163
because there is too much cortisol in your body your body is consistently preparing for something life-threatening
164
because of the way you're living your life and lastly you crave sugar
165
and carbs especially in the afternoon high cortisol actually makes your blood sugar unstable
166
and then your body will crave something that will give you instant fuel to compensate.
167
And we get a very quick and instant hit of energy when we eat sugary things.
168
So those are the seven biggest signs that you have a cortisol problem.
169
So now let's go into what actually lowers cortisol.
170
What can we do to stop this from happening and have that glow up?
171
Number one, you're gonna fix your morning before your hand even touches the phone, okay?
172
Your rule is you can press the alarm off
173
and then you do not touch that phone for the first 20 to 30 minutes after waking.
174
The first 20 minutes of your morning will set the tone of your cortisol for the entire day.
175
Cortisol peaks in the morning.
176
And if that cortisol is already elevated and you are rushing, you're doom scrolling, you're stressed with all the information and the emails coming through,
177
that cortisol will not come down and you will be in this low grade chronic stress all the time.
178
Just adopt a soft girl morning mindset during the week not
179
just on the weekends this needs to be every single day
180
that's it that's your morning rule no scrolling first thing
181
and take your time number two you're gonna swap any high
182
intensity workouts for low intensity you're gonna swap your hit training your sprinting
183
if you do that to walking pilates strength training okay that is the best combination if you want your body to thrive.
184
Women are not designed for consistent HIIT because it elevates your cortisol.
185
And if you are already stressed, like we said before, it's doing the complete opposite for you.
186
It doesn't matter how many calories you burn.
187
Stop looking at the calories that you burn at a workout.
188
The more calories doesn't mean better.
189
I keep all my exercise low intensity and I have never looked better.
190
Okay, number three, you're gonna eat within the first hour of waking
191
and you're gonna have 30 grams of protein for breakfast no
192
excuses you should not be intermittent fasting as a woman you
193
can for a bit of your cycle again it's all about your hormones
194
but if you're as a woman fasting for extended period of times you're not eating till lunch
195
and then you're having a coffee you are literally extending
196
that morning cortisol spike your body literally reads fasting as a
197
stressor number four extremely important do something every single day
198
that shows your nervous system that you are safe
199
so safety signals to the body can be anything from slow breathing to meditating to sitting down for five minutes
200
and doing nothing.
201
Anything that's slow, anything that's mindful, anything that puts you into the present moment, it's an amazing practice.
202
Again, I have a whole ebook that you can check out on this as well on my website.
203
And I have a couple of videos that talk more in depth about this.
204
And essentially what we want to do is activate that parasympathetic nervous system, the rest and digest where the cortisol will calm down and you can glow.
205
Some other great things you can do are things like putting cold water on your face, humming, taking a slow nature walk, even just eating slowly.
206
These are not woo-woo, they're just physiological somatic signs
207
and a lot of the time we are only taught to talk things through
208
and go to therapy and all the things to help with our stress levels, forgetting that the body is a very big part of our healing
209
and we need to take care of getting
210
that stress out of the body just as much as we take care of you know talking things through
211
and getting the stress out of our minds lastly you're going to protect your evenings like they are sacred okay
212
because they are we need to get
213
that beauty sleep your cortisol is supposed to be the lowest in the evening so
214
if you have bright lights tv on your doom scrolling you're
215
having stressful conversations you're doing your emails until 11 at night all these things signal to your body
216
that the day is not over.
217
So dim your lights, use your phone on night mode.
218
And one great thing I love to do to show my body the day has finished
219
and you need to unwind and actually sleep properly deeply is having a shower in the dark.
220
I know that sounds really weird.
221
I love showering in the dark.
222
I put a candle on, I put some music on, some nervous system music, and I really just unwind and calm down.
223
And I have the best sleep after I do that.
224
My five top tips, super easy, super simple not over complicated and you're actually doing less
225
and getting more results getting better results
