쉐도잉 연습: Emma Watson: “Fame Made Me Forget Myself — Here’s Why I Walked Away” - 영상으로 영어 말하기 배우기

레슨 만드는 중...
1
Did you have people in the industry or people that you could talk to that felt the same way?
2
Did you have co-stars or friends?
3
No. Wow.
4
No, I don't know anyone else.
5
I'll never say that I quit acting.
6
I'll always be an actor.
7
I'm still open to doing it again.
8
But I certainly made a decision to take time to figure out, to not know, and to,
9
you know, I had this whole disassembling the structure that's needed to carry the load of Emma Watson.
10
It's like there's an agent and a publicist and a manager and a personal assistant,
11
and there's all these people and lives who are intertwined with mine.
12
Navigating and caring for and negotiating that with people as well was really tricky.
13
Also, I was just bloody terrified.
14
Like, I think there's a kind of infantilization that can happen when you work as much as I did
15
and a kind of loss of independence that means that you're like, oh my God, can I even do my life
16
if I don't have this like army of people who are like helping me do the most menial and basic of things?
17
Like, can I actually like do this stuff myself?
18
And I don't even say that in terms of like capability, but like just from the place of like, it's difficult for me to walk down the street sometimes.
19
So if I'm going to start to take on truly the responsibility for most of my life myself, like, what's that going to be like?
20
Like, can I really do that stuff?
21
I think fame makes you feel like you can't do things for yourself in a way
22
that can really disempower you and remove your confidence and autonomy as a human being,
23
that's really disabling.
24
And for everyone who's wondering, yeah, Emma called me up and I was like, should I speak to you, a publicist?
25
She's like, nope, I am my publicist.
26
I was like, do I need to check with the manager?
27
Nope, I am my manager.
28
And like, that was literally the conversation we had.
29
So she booked this podcast herself.
30
There was no booker, there was no booking system.
31
There
32
was no reach out it was literally emma doing it herself
33
which is proof you are living your values thank you and
34
and you are aligned with what you're saying i wanted people to know
35
that thank you i appreciate that what's so funny though now is like
36
because i do everything myself there's like a 50 chance you would have not thought it was me
37
or like sometimes
38
when i reach out to people i had plenty of moments
39
i had to double take i was like wait a minute
40
like verify verify verify the amount of followers who people think it's not me
41
and so like i have a 50 50 rate of people actually just like not responding to me
42
because they don't think i'd be reaching out myself that's real
43
i i had to do a second i think i even
44
checked it this morning like wait a minute is it definitely
45
her am i going turn up in some like you know
46
catfish situation no it's wild yeah yeah oddly sometimes it takes
47
more work me trying to do things myself than through the
48
system yeah i know you you did a great job but
49
that that yeah those those hard questions
50
that you asked yourself i mean what was it
51
that gave you courage to walk a path where you don't know the next three steps
52
when you have an entire career lined up on the other side.
53
You have an amazing career.
54
Every movie you've been in has been magical and amazing.
55
When you look at your portfolio of choices, they're all brilliant performances, they're great films, and you only would have more of that.
56
So it's also not like you're leaving a career that's kind of had its, you know what I mean?
57
It's at a place where no business-oriented person could imagine why.
58
And so what gives you courage when one side is so clear and one side is not clear at all?
59
Again, I'm going to tell the honest version of this story.
60
I'd love to tell you that it was like this incredible courage and determination I have inside of me.
61
And yes, there's part of that.
62
I'm not going to completely erase my role in all of this.
63
But I think a big part was
64
that it was coming to a point with my health
65
and nervous system where I was starting to hit a point of not no return
66
but like it's interesting I eat well I do yoga I do medit- I do all the things right
67
but I think I was using those as a way of mitigating how much stress I I was under,
68
as opposed to actually what those things are really for, are compasses and points towards our truth.
69
And I was using them as a way of bolstering myself and allowing myself to continue down a path
70
that actually was kind of wrecking me.
71
And I think it was just like my immune system couldn't pretend anymore.
72
I was on seven or eight packets of an antibiotic every year
73
because my immune system was so low that I would just constantly be getting sick and a sinus infection and whatever else.
74
I have no idea.
75
My body just started being like, no. I went from being someone who I would say still handles stress and pressure well,
76
And in the moment, I could always do it.
77
But the cost afterwards was starting to get more and more serious to the point where it was like,
78
I'd always turned down.
79
I actually remember I was in my early 20s when a publicist first offered me a beta blocker.
80
I was nervous before a carpet.
81
And it's the only other time I ever took anything.
82
and I was fine for the two hours after I took it.
83
And then I got back to the room and when my feelings came back to me,
84
I was like overwrought with grief and feeling of having blocked it.
85
And so I'd always, and after that, I never allowed anyone to give me anything again,
86
even though I was offered things multiple times.
87
and doctors wanting to give me things for jet lag and for sleep and for nerves.
88
And, oh, everyone takes it.
89
This is, you know, there's no shame in this or whatever.
90
But I just, I felt like in order to keep going, I was going to have to make a decision of like,
91
are you okay with being low level, unwell and medicated, essentially?
92
And I just knew that wasn't a choice for me.
93
so in a way I have my body to thank
94
because my body just I didn't want to ignore my body anymore
95
and it didn't matter how many silent retreats I went on
96
or how much yoga I did or like what new thing I did to try
97
and take care of myself it my body was done and that was then I think
98
when I went away and found a relationship with myself
99
and my practice and just having trust and faith in a way that I never had before.
100
And I started listening more carefully to like these little whispers of like, oh, like maybe this should be the thing you do.
101
Or like even coming and doing this of like, I think you should go and do this podcast.
102
Just listening to myself for basically in listening to the universe, whatever that means.
103
But I never had that before.
104
I never knew how to listen for those things before.
105
I truly went away and had nothing for a while.
106
So that was probably the best result of all of that.
107
Yeah, and I think it still takes so much courage because it does, even though you didn't see it that way and you may not have noticed it,
108
it still takes so much courage to listen to your body.
109
Because it is easy to keep medicating in all the ways to break it anyway.
110
And to push it to the edges and the limits of its ability.
111
And because you're so addicted or intoxicated by the success or whatever it may be.
112
I guess the courageous part was just knowing I didn't want to numb out.
113
That was the point at which it got too big of a cost.
114
Because I was like, okay, if I feel like I need to be I'm at the point where the price is too high now.
