레슨 만드는 중...
1
Hey guys!
2
Welcome to another interactive video where you learn some driving vocabulary since you loved the previous one so much.
3
It's not going to be a video where I teach you some basic vocabulary like this is a door, this is a hood, and this is a rear view mirror.
4
No, there's plenty of videos that go over this.
5
In this video I want us to learn how to talk about the actions we take
6
when driving a car because from my experience knowing how to talk about them is very important,
7
especially if you're planning to get a driver's license in the US, for instance.
8
And I've noticed that people are often not familiar with this vocabulary.
9
So without further ado, let's get to it.
10
So what we'll do first is unlock the car.
11
Then we'll get into the car or get in the car.
12
Both are correct.
13
However, if you're in the car and you want to ask someone to join you, you would say get in, not get into.
14
Hey, come on, get in.
15
If you needed to, you would adjust the seat position or you can say just adjust the seat and adjust the mirrors.
16
Now I am going to buckle up or I can also say fasten my seat belt or put on my seat belt.
17
You could also hear the phrases strip in or built up.
18
I'll put the key in the ignition and start the car or start the engine.
19
Alright, now that we have done this, the next thing that I want to do is to pull out of the parking spot.
20
So when you're leaving or exiting your parking spot or the driveway, you pull out of it.
21
And the opposite of pull out of is pull in or pull into the parking spot, parking lot or the garage.
22
So to pull out of the parking spot, I need to do what?
23
That's right.
24
I need to move the car backwards.
25
And the right way to say this would be I need to back up or I need to reverse.
26
Before I start moving, I'll check my mirrors and I'll check my blind spots for any hazards.
27
A blind spot is the area you can't see by looking in the mirrors, so you would look over your shoulder to do that.
28
All right, all clear.
29
Let's back up.
30
Now we will go to the main road and we will be merging into traffic.
31
Merging traffic is when two traffic streams combine into a single lane.
32
We'll turn on our blinker.
33
This means that we will turn on our turn signal.
34
And we'll yield the right of way.
35
This means allowing other vehicles to proceed through the intersection ahead of you.
36
A vehicle is anything used for transporting people or goods, especially on land such as a car, truck, or cart.
37
Cars moving on the road are called traffic, and this is a traffic jam.
38
Now we're going to speed up or accelerate smoothly,
39
and this means that it will start to move faster.
40
You could also use the phrase step on it, and it means to start to move faster
41
and you can use it in any situation where you want to tell someone to start moving faster.
42
And it actually comes from driving a car because when you step on the accelerator pedal, you start to speed up.
43
And now we will slow down or brake gradually.
44
I wish everyone would slow down on the highways because the speed at which vehicles move on the highways stress me out.
45
Right now I'm in the right lane, but I need to turn left at the traffic light.
46
This is a traffic light.
47
So, I need to change lanes.
48
This action means changing lanes, moving from one lane to another.
49
And this is a lane.
50
I'll signal to change lanes, which means the same as turning on our blinker.
51
It means using our turn signal.
52
So, we can say to turn our signal on, to put our signal on,
53
to use our signal, or just to signal using the word signal as a verb.
54
Or all of this just using the word blinker instead of signal.
55
You can take your pick.
56
Tailgate is another word you should know.
57
It's when one vehicle is driving too close to another one and is considered a form of aggressive driving and is dangerous.
58
We're not going to be doing that for safety reasons.
59
What we want to do is to maintain a safe distance, meaning leave enough space between our car and the car in front of us.
60
Do you know what the act of moving ahead of another vehicle is called?
61
There's more than one way to say this.
62
So we can say to pass a car, to overtake a car, or to surpass a car.
63
You should wait for a safe opportunity to pass a car in front of you on a two-lane road.
64
Now we're going to pull up to the curb, or you can pull up next to another car, or pull up next to a person.
65
Pull up means to drive up close to you and stop directly beside someone or something.
66
If an unknown vehicle pulls up next to you, you should be alert.
67
Now some of these words might be tricky to pronounce, especially certain sounds.
68

And you can also practice a specific word that perhaps gives you trouble.
82
So let's practice this word because it is a difficult word to pronounce.
83
Entrepreneur.
84
So let's listen to it again.
85
Entrepreneur.
86
And let's try to say it.
87
Entrepreneur.
88
Okay, not bad, but there's still some sounds that I need to work on.
89
And you can also track your progress on the app.

94
If your friend or partner or spouse parked too close behind another car, what would you tell them?
95
You would say something like, you're too close to that car.
96
Can you back up a little?
97
We don't want to park our car too close to another car so as not to block it.
98
When a car is blocked, it is unable to move freely
99
or proceed in its intended direction due to an obstacle or another vehicle intentionally placed in its way.
100
Hey, this not nice person blocked me and now I'm stuck here.
101
We don't want someone to say this about us.
102
After you pull up to something, you would pull away from it, meaning to start moving away from it.
103
Also, let's not confuse the words curb and curve.
104
This is a curb.
105
And this is a curve.
106
There's another phrasal verb we can use, which also means to stop the vehicle.
107
It is pull over.
108
However, pull over means to move your car to the side of the road so that you can safely stop there.
109
And you can use it as is and say pull over and it'll mean stop when it is safe to do so.
110
Whereas when you use the phrase pull up, you usually need to specify where.
111
You can also be pulled over by a police officer.
112
If a police officer pulls you over, you need to move your vehicle closer to the side of the road and stop there.
113
When an officer comes up to your car, you need to roll down your window.
114
So this action is called to roll down your window.
115
And the opposite of this is to roll up your window.
116
Have you ever been pulled over?
117
Let me know in the comments.
118
And if you have, let me know why.
119
You will also hear phrases come to a halt or come to a complete stop, which means to stop.
120
Do you know how to ask someone to take you somewhere in their car and leave you there?
121
Like when you need to go to the store and you want to ask your friend to take you there?
122
You would say something like, can you please drop me off at the store?
123
To drop off means to take someone to a particular destination
124
and stop your vehicle there momentarily so that the person can exit.
125
And the opposite action to this one would be to pick someone up.
126
This means to go to a specific location, pick the person up and take them to their desired destination.
127
I, for instance, need to drop my son off at school and pick him up from school every day.
128
Let's check our fuel gauge and see if we need to fill up our gas tank.
129
Looks like we're good here.
130
However, for the sake of demonstration, we'll go to the gas station and fill up the tank.
131
And right now we're filling up our guest tank.
132
All right, let's go back to the parking lot.
133
And we will reverse park here or park our car in reverse by backing into a parking space.
134
we'll put the car in park turn off the engine get out of the car close the door and lock the car
135
that's it okay guys i hope you enjoyed watching this video
136
and learning some driving vocabulary with me and i'll see you in the next one bye
