Hey, how's it going?

My name is Gabby.

Welcome back to my channel and welcome to a horror book recommendations video.

I am so excited to be making one of these videos again.

If you're newer to my channel, you might not know, but I've made a number of horror book recommendation videos in the past.

This is actually going to be the eighth time that I've done this, so I will have all the previous seven videos linked down below.

I will also be linking down below other times that I've done a video kind of like this, like horror book recommendations for beginners,

as well as my all -time favorite horror books.

But if you didn't know, I am a very avid reader of horror, especially in these last couple of years,

I really feel like horror has become my number one favorite genre.

And so these books that I'm going to be recommending to you are the best of the best, in my opinion.

I think I have about like 16 books on this list because horror has been absolutely phenomenal in the year of 2026.

So let's just jump right into the list.

The first one that I want to recommend to you is one of my absolute top favorite books of this year,

and that is Molka by Monica Kim.

This is definitely one of those horror stories that's like a female rage type of story and honestly, like in the year of 2026,

it could not be more relevant and timely.

So in this story, this one's taking place in South Korea and we're following this woman who's working in this office building.

We also follow from the perspective of this guy who has installed these cameras in the women's bathroom

and he's watching her through the camera lens in the bathroom.

It's absolutely disgusting.

Apparently the term mocha is actually used to describe this invasion of privacy

and this is something that happens so frequently in South Korea

that they actually have a word for it and And this is, you know, like I mentioned, it's one of those like female rage,

female revenge type of stories where a man treats a woman terribly.

And then you kind of get to see the horrific things that happened to him as a result of that.

I loved this book so much.

I devoured this book all within one afternoon.

I couldn't get enough of the writing.

And by the ending of this book, I was screaming.

It was just so satisfying.

Another one of my top favorites of this year has got to be Japanese Gothic by Kylie Lee Baker.

This is a book that I was actually not even sure

if I was going to like because this one is a horror book that not only has a present day timeline,

but it also does have a historical timeline.

And the historical chapters are taking place in the year 1877.

I'm not always the biggest fan of historical horror, so I thought that this book was going to bore me,

but I could not be more wrong.

This book was so riveting right from the first page.

The present day, we're following this guy named Lee, and he is now living back in Japan, but he went to college in New York.

And he often thinks about the fact that he thinks that he killed his roommate back in New York, but he doesn't fully remember it.

And then you also get this other timeline that's taking place in 1877.

We're following this woman named Sen who is a young samurai

And both of these characters are dealing with unique family trauma

and like expectations that are getting put on them by their families I don't want to say too much about the plot

But the description of this book says two people living centuries apart discover a door between their worlds

So do with that what you will.

I loved this so much I also want to recommend this to fans of ministry of time

Which might sound weird if you haven't read the book

But if you like the concept of two characters interacting from different time periods, then I think you would really like this book.

And also the ending of this book almost made me emotional in public.

It was so beautifully done.

Another one of my top favorites of this year that really surprised me is Fabulous Bodies by Chuck Tingle.

Because in this book, we're following this mother named Poppy who is an influencer.

She's like a fashion influencer.

And then by night, she goes and she robs graves.

And then one night, this guy named Eddie Michaels, who's this like queer icon,

He ends up dying and she goes to retrieve his body and while she has him in the back of her car

He ends up waking up

and this story all takes place on one night in Palm Springs And it's very gory and violent and very intense

And I just had

so much fun with this book like way more than I thought

I was going to I also think this book had

so much commentary about a lot of things like not only like social media

But then there was also a lot of conversation about like the difference between

Generations and like the way that we react to things.

It was all very interesting to me I just really loved the characters in this

and the plot was so fast -paced and it was so ridiculous and like over the top

Like in the best ways there was even a moment in the plot

that really shocked me in this that I will never forget

Another book that really surprised me that I read this summer is this one called slasher summer by e .l.

Chen You know, I fully went into this book thinking

that I probably wasn't gonna like it because I do often talk about how I do love Slashers,

but usually I prefer them as movies or films instead of books

because I feel like a lot of what makes slashers fun in movies, I just don't get that same feeling from books usually.

But this book has absolutely proven me wrong.

Like this was such a fun slasher.

And I love how the synopsis for this says

if you took all of the characters from The Breakfast Club and threw them into the world of Scream, this is what you would get.

And I feel like that's so accurate because in this story, we're following these seven friends who go to this cabin.

It says they go to the sleepy town of Cedar Lake

at this remote cabin where this cult movie called Slasher was filmed all of these years ago.

And now, of course, there's somebody stalking them in the woods that's killing them one by one.

I feel like this book was

so much fun to read though as a fan of horror because there were so many nods to different horror movies.

Like, all of the characters were named after iconic horror movie villains.

Like, we have Michael and Jason and Jennifer, you know, from Jennifer's Body.

It was so much fun.

And this is actually a slasher that I would think about rereading, which I never thought I would say about a slasher.

Ooh, and then I would also highly recommend

The Sorrow Stones by Felix Blackwell.

This is from the same author as Stolen Tongues, which was always one of my favorite horror books that I've ever read.

I love the way that this author writes horror.

Like, it truly gets under my skin.

So in this story, we're following this young boy,

and I believe that it's taking place on the night of Halloween when he's like 13 years old.

And it's one of those things where like he collects this little stone that brings him good luck,

but then he thinks it brings bad luck to like anybody else in his life.

And this story takes place over a number of years, and we get to see this character on a few different halloweens of his youth

100

and when i tell you that this book was

101

so disturbing oh my god it was

102

so creepy it really got under my skin almost in the same way

103

that stolen tongues did to be honest like this was

104

so eerie and weird and i loved every minute of this this is one of those books

105

that i devoured in one afternoon

106

because i had to know where it was going i also think

107

if you were a fan of the supernatural episode

108

that's like the bad day at black rock episode i think you would love this book

109

if you're really into the kind of horror that's like cursed objects

110

or like things that can bring you good or bad luck, oh I think you would eat this one up.

111

And then I also wanted to recommend the horror novella that's called The Extra.

112

I've seen this one also kind of getting categorized as like sci -fi, but I personally think it's a little bit more horror than sci -fi.

113

And I actually loved this book so much that recently when I was working in the bookstore,

114

I ended up picking up a copy of the sequel that's called The Other, so I can't wait to read this one soon.

115

But The Extra was a really interesting horror novella

116

that was more creepy because of how like subtle and weird and eerie it was.

117

So basically we're following this group of campers.

118

We're following from the perspective of the camp counselor man who's like in charge

119

and there's 10 of them going on this trip and he knows

120

that because there's the three employees and then there's the seven people

121

that go on the trip with them and the van that takes them to this trip only seats 10.

122

But then once they get there

123

and once they're out in the wilderness he does the head count

124

and he realizes that there's 11 people out there and he's like

125

How is this possible?

126

And he goes through the roll call like one by one and he remembers every single person signing up

127

And so he's trying to figure out who is the extra and how is this even possible?

128

It's almost like something like implanted memories into his head of every person

129

And he's trying to figure out like who's the imposter like who shouldn't be here

130

This was such an experimental weird subtle horror novel that I just really really really love this and the ending

131

Oh my god, I was like screaming.

132

I was like, what do you mean?

133

Oh, it was so good.

134

Another recent horror book that I absolutely loved was Maisie Wood by Tanana Reeve -Doo.

135

Tanana Reeve -Doo is an incredible horror author.

136

Like, if you've never read anything from this author, I would highly recommend this one,

137

as well as The Reformatory was another one that I loved by her.

138

In the story, we are getting two timelines.

139

We have one that's taking place in the present day, and then one that's taking place back in the 1920s through the 1940s.

140

And in those past chapters, we're following this woman named Maisel, who was a really well -known actress of her time.

141

And then in the present day timeline, we are following her grandson who is a film director and in the present day timeline,

142

he's going to be going to this isolated cabin retreat that's called Maisie Wood that was owned by his grandmother.

143

And while they're at this cabin retreat, they're starting to think that there's a monster out in the woods that's like stalking them and their family.

144

Oh my god, this book just really had it all.

145

I think if you're a fan of The Shining,

146

I think you would love this because I feel like there's so many nods to The Shining in this.

147

I also loved all of the conversation about the film industry in this book, and especially because you're getting the perspective from this

148

Black actress in the 1920s through the 1940s, and then her Black grandson,

149

who's a film director, and both of these characters touch on the unique struggles

150

that they face as Black people working in the movie industry.

151

I thought all of the commentary was just so relevant and so moving, but then the horror in this book was also so good,

152

and the characters were so good.

153

I also loved that this book had the wishing well trope, which is like one of my favorite tropes I've discovered.

154

So there was so much to love about Maisie Wood and I highly recommend it.

155

I actually did do an entire Patreon reading vlog discussing this book with full spoilers,

156

so if you want to see that vlog I will have it linked down below.

157

And then speaking of the wishing well trope in horror, which I am apparently such a huge fan of, I also wanted to recommend Trad Wife,

158

which this was a recent book that I read

159

that also really surprised me because I wasn't expecting to like this very much because I don't love reading about like pregnancy,

160

horror, and demons like that is just not really my thing

161

but this book was so incredibly well written and so interesting

162

because we're following this young woman named Camille

163

and she is an influencer she has this pretty big social media following

164

and she is a trad wife and she desperately wants to have a child

165

because she feels like that's gonna make her feel you know like worthy in her marriage

166

and in her partnership with this guy and

167

so she ends up going to this wishing well

168

and she wishes for a baby

169

and as you might be able to tell you know like from the cover here things don't go exactly to plan.

170

I think this had really great commentary on like social media and like trad wives and like that whole influencer culture.

171

It was all very interesting and very well done, but also the horror in this book was absolutely disgusting, like so grotesque.

172

I do not recommend eating while you're reading this book because this book definitely goes there, okay?

173

Like it is disgusting, like next level, ew.

174

Another book that I would highly recommend that was such a mind -bending book was Solace House by Will McLean.

175

Oh my gosh, this one is definitely for the fans of like

176

House of Leaves or maybe like A Short Stay in Hell or maybe like

177

We Used to Live Here,

178

like any of those books that are super like mind -bendy and make you feel very disoriented while you're reading the book.

179

That is definitely the vibe of this one.

180

This one on the back, they describe this as an addictive and brilliant puzzle box of a novel and that's exactly how I would describe this.

181

What I really love about this book is that it's taking place in 1993 on this college campus,

182

and you're following these seven students who are staying behind for the summer, and they're going to be clearing out this giant

183

Victorian mansion that's empty.

184

We're following from the perspective of this young guy named Alex,

185

and in this story, you not only get the perspective of this character Alex in the 90s, but then you also do get these flashback chapters

186

when you're reading these diary entries of this guy who used to live in this

187

Victorian mansion, and I guess he lived there alone for, like, most of his life, and people thought he like lost his mind in the house.

188

God, this book was so unsettling and so bizarre.

189

I loved the writing in this book.

190

It was absolutely gorgeous, like definitely one of the most atmospheric books that I've read this year.

191

I mean, if you typically enjoy like dark academia type of stories or the kind of stories like

192

House of Leaves where it just kind of like messes with your head

193

and you're kind of questioning like what's real and what's even going on, then this is definitely the book for you.

194

I would also highly recommend

195

The Place Where They Buried Your Heart by Christina Henry.

196

This is another perfect recommendation if you love haunted house stories and this one is also taking place in 1993.

197

I know, what are the chances?

198

So we've got the 90s horror vibes going on

199

and this one takes place in Chicago

200

and we're following this family who's living on this street in Chicago where there's this house

201

that like none of the kids like going up to because the house is weird, it's giving off weird vibes.

202

We're following this young teenage girl named Jessie

203

and she ends up daring her younger brother to go into the house with his two friends

204

and the two friends come out traumatized and the younger brother is never seen again.

205

And so she kind of feels like responsible for her brother's disappearance at such a young age.

206

And we follow this character, Jessie, from the time that she's a teenager into her adulthood

207

and we kind of get to see like how this has impacted her life, but also what's still going on at this house.

208

And it's this house where like these children have disappeared and like they were never seen from again.

209

This one really reminded me of like classic Stephen King or something.

210

Like it kind of had that same vibe as It, where like you know that something's going on in the town,

211

but like nobody's really doing anything about it.

212

It's just so creepy.

213

This just had the best atmosphere and the best spooky haunted house vibes.

214

Another horror book that I absolutely loved is this one called Nothing Tastes As Good by Luke Dumas.

215

This is another one of those horror books

216

that felt painfully relevant with the times right now because we're following this character named Emmett.

217

And at the start of this book, he's over 300 pounds and he's kind of reaching a point where he will do anything to lose weight.

218

It says that he enrolls in a clinical trial for a new weight loss product called Obexity

219

and it turns out that obexity comes with some killer consequences and side effects and overwhelming cravings.

220

So you can imagine what he starts craving.

221

I've seen this book getting compared to The Substance, which I can definitely understand why.

222

There's something about the commentary in this book and also like the way

223

that it's written that definitely reminded me of The Substance, but this book was absolutely horrifying.

224

Like it was really disgusting, really hard to read at times.

225

There was one scene that I was like, oh my god, I never want to think about that ever again.

226

It was so gross.

227

Genuinely do not eat while you're reading this book.

228

You have been warned, but this was so good.

229

It was so thought -provoking and like the ending, my jaw was just like on the floor.

230

Like I didn't even know how to react.

231

Also want to highly recommend this one called Look What the Cat Dragged In by Jason Reculich.

232

This one just published in the month of October and this is another horror book that really surprised me.

233

I loved this so much more than I thought I would.

234

So in this story, we're following this woman named Penny and she is a cartoonist

235

And she has this little cat named Popcorn and she does her whole cartoon series that's called Penny and Popcorn.

236

And she's like a best -selling author.

237

Like, she sells this comic series that's very popular.

238

And right at the start of this book, her cat ends up going missing.

239

And then a few months after her cat goes missing, she gets this opportunity.

240

Like, her boyfriend's boss needs somebody to watch their cat when they're away on a trip.

241

And there's this cat named Godfrey.

242

And so because she's been so sad about her cat going missing, her boyfriend's like, hey, why don't we like pet sit this cat for a

243

while so that you can have another cat in the house

244

and maybe you can start to heal and like move past this.

245

And it's starting to seem like this cat Godfrey is not a regular cat.

246

Like something's going on here and it's kind of weird.

247

And I just ended up loving this book so much.

248

Like I really loved following

249

Penny as a protagonist.

250

I just found her to be such a relatable character.

251

And I also loved the very subtle hint of like a love triangle that was happening in this book.

252

Oh my god, I was so invested.

253

Because she has her boyfriend, this guy named Dean.

254

But then she also has this other guy that's like showing interest in her and like he's really sweet to her too

255

So like there is the setup of like a love triangle

256

that was just really pulling me in I also love the fact

257

that this book included over 80 pages of illustrations throughout the book

258

because you not only get to see a lot of Her comics, you know as she's drawing

259

then you also do get a lot of really cool kind of like disturbing artwork that's included in the book too.

260

I also thought it was really cool how like as this character starts to feel like she's like losing her mind,

261

you're also seeing as her comics are getting more and more disturbing.

262

I thought that was just such a cool thing to include in this book and I loved this one so much.

263

I highly recommend it.

264

Another horror book that I read recently

265

that I also really enjoyed is this one called Dive Bar at the End of the Road by Kelly Armstrong.

266

This one on the back of the book is pitched as Final Destination meets

267

The Cabin at the End of the world and I absolutely agree with that statement.

268

I think if you enjoyed

269

The Cabin at the End of the World, I think there's a really good chance you would love this one as well

270

because in this story it's all taking place on one night.

271

You're following from the perspective of a number of different characters who all get stranded.

272

Basically they think they see something in the road

273

and they swerve out of the way

274

and then they end up crashing onto the side of the road

275

and all these cars start piling on top of each other and there's nowhere to go.

276

They don't have any cell phone service

277

and the only option is this little dive bar

278

that they see at the end of the road

279

and then they start to realize that like things are weird at this dive bar.

280

Like it's not exactly what they think it is.

281

This is also like one of those books

282

that has like one of my favorite things in horror where you get the perspective of

283

so many characters who are seeing things and they don't know if it's real or not, but they're seeing things that personally scare them the most.

284

And like that's one of my favorite things that like really gets to me in horror.

285

It was just so fascinating.

286

Like I wasn't sure how I was feeling about this after the first like 100 pages, but then once the story got going,

287

Oh my god, this really went off the rails in a way

288

that I was not expecting and the ending of this book like my heart was racing

289

This was so fast paced in the second half.

290

Like I could not put it down I finished this all within one night

291

This was another one of those endings where like I read the final words

292

and then I just like stared at the wall because I was like

293

What am I supposed to do now?

294

Another horror book that I would highly recommend is this one called come knocking

295

And this is actually from the same author as fantastic land

296

Which is another book that I really loved

297

but this story was really unique and really weird in the same way

298

that fantastic land is because in this story it's told entirely in interview format.

299

And in this story we're following the same investigative journalist

300

and they uncover the truth about what happened at this massacre in Los Angeles.

301

There's this interactive theater experience that's called Come Knocking and the idea of this place is really cool and really creepy.

302

It's like an interactive horror show and it takes place on like many floors

303

and this investigative journalist is covering this night where 56 people were brutally killed in very gruesome ways,

304

and the story is entirely told in interviews from the people that survived.

305

And this story was actually so gory and, like, so gruesome that, like, at times it was kind of hard for me to stomach.

306

And I also feel like the general message with this book and the commentary was very bleak and very depressing,

307

but it also felt very realistic because it's one of those stories where you're reminded that, like, our government doesn't care about us,

308

the planet is dying, and there's nothing we can do about it, and it really pushes people to their limit

309

and sometimes makes them act out violently and I think that's a very realistic and scary thing.

310

This book was just so well written and it had so many scenes that I will never forget.

311

Another book that I really wanted to recommend

312

that I don't see too many people talking about is this one called The Neighbor by London Clark.

313

This book in my opinion it had the perfect balance of like horror

314

and thriller and romance which are all of my favorite genres

315

so if you enjoy all of those genres then I would highly recommend this book and also if you like the show

316

Supernatural, I would also recommend this book and I don't even know why,

317

but there was something about this book that really gave me the vibes of Supernatural.

318

And in this story, you're following this woman who is recently divorced and she has these daughters.

319

I think she has like three or four daughters and she's a single mother trying to take care of her daughters.

320

They move into this new neighborhood and this story's all taking place around Halloween time.

321

And it says, Claire has a secret to cope with hidden, deep -rooted pain.

322

She often participates in risky, reckless behavior.

323

And then there's this new guy named Steel Nolan who moves into the house next door to hers.

324

And she starts to develop this friendship with this man but she doesn't know if she can fully trust him.

325

This book was just so my taste when it comes to like horror

326

and romance and thriller vibes and it had a great atmosphere because it was all taking place around Halloween.

327

I just had a blast with this book

328

and I ended up devouring this whole thing in one afternoon

329

but it was just so entertaining

330

and I really want to read more books from this author because I love the writing in this.

331

I just really connected with it and then the last book

332

that I wanted to recommend to you speaking of like good horror

333

and romance is this one called How to Kill a Guy in 10 Dates.

334

I would highly recommend this book to you

335

if you are either a fan of slashers or rom -coms

336

because in this book we're following this character named Jamie who is a really big cinephile.

337

She's a really big movie lover

338

and she ends up going to this speed dating event in New York City with her best friend

339

and then while she's on the speed dating event they all get like locked in the building together

340

and then somebody's killing them off one by one and it turns into a slasher.

341

But then it's also like a romance at the same time because since she's at the speed dating event,

342

she ends up hitting it off with like two different guys that are there.

343

And so it's simultaneously like a romance book that's happening at the same time

344

while she finds herself in the middle of a slasher.

345

Oh my god, this book was so like silly, stupid, and fun in the best way.

346

I genuinely want more horror romance books like this in my life.

347

Because it was truly the perfect balance of like horror and romance.

348

And I love how much this character talks about the similarities between romance and horror.

349

And really how similar a lot of the plot ends up being in both a horror and a romance movie.

350

It was all just like very entertaining.

351

And the romance in this book was actually really good as well.

352

Like I was having a fun time with it.

353

Right, those are all of the horror books that I wanted to recommend to you today.

354

I have read so many incredible horror books in the year of 2026

355

that I actually had to like narrow down this list.

356

And I think I still talked about like 16 books in this video, which is so wild.

357

So I'll probably be doing another recommendation video sooner rather than later with how many books I've been reading.
