1
Hello.
2
Are you ready to improve your English?
3
Well, today you are inside of my refrigerator,
4
and we are going to improve our English with comprehensible input.
5
What is comprehensible input?
6
Comprehensible input is when a native speaker like me speaks in a way that you can understand.
7
And today I am going to make a comprehensible input video for you by showing you how I eat every day.
8
So today I'm going to show you everything I eat.
9
We are going to talk about food and you are going to learn a ton of useful real life vocabulary in English.
10
Are you ready let's go hey guys Kyle here I just
11
want to welcome all of the new subscribers who found me on my recent videos
12
or this video and I want to give a big virtual hug
13
and welcome back to all of my loyal subscribers who have
14
been watching my videos some of you guys for years I appreciate you all very much.
15
So before I show you guys what I eat in a day,
16
let's talk a little bit about diet.
17
Okay.
18
And your diet is what you eat.
19
Okay.
20
Your diet is what you eat every day, every week, every month.
21
And the thing about diet is everybody eats different, right?
22
Some people like to eat
23
little things all day long all day they're snacking to snack means
24
that you're eating something little popcorn potato chips candy some people
25
snack all day okay some people like to eat the three main meals okay
26
and in english we call the traditional three meals breakfast lunch
27
and dinner breakfast is what you eat in the morning lunch is what you usually eat around 12 o'clock
28
or 1 p.m sometimes
29
and dinner I would say people normally traditionally eat dinner around
30
5 p.m here in the United States I know some places they eat dinner very late I heard
31
that in Spain sometimes they eat dinner at like 10 p.m sounds weird to me
32
so before I show you guys how I eat let's talk about how I eat
33
and you guys are going to get a lot of good vocabulary in this video a ton
34
so guys I usually just eat two times a day normally
35
most days I eat twice a day sometimes I eat three but I never never snack I never eat snacks,
36
little snacks, and I never eat more than three meals a day.
37
So how I eat.
38
Usually, I eat two big meals.
39
So on days that I do not have to go to work,
40
I usually will eat my first meal around 10 or 11 a.m.
41
Okay?
42
I know for some people,
43
they're thinking, oh, how do you do that?
44
It's so hard.
45
I would be so hungry.
46
And when my wife says that,
47
I tell her, man cannot live by bread alone.
48
Just a joke.
49
Which means that there's more important things than eating.
50
So normally I'll eat one meal at 10 or 11 a.m.
51
And then I will eat a big dinner around 5 or 6 p.m with my wife.
52
So the only times that I eat three times a day are when I work early in the morning.
53
And then I go to the gym to work out before work.
54
Okay?
55
So if I have to work at 6 30 a.m.
56
I'll go to the gym at 4 30 a.m.
57
Work out for one hour and then go to work.
58
So guys when I do that I am so hungry.
59
I'm starving.
60
So guys starving is actually not a good thing.
61
Starving means that you are dying of hunger you're so hungry
62
that your body is dying it's eating itself but people say
63
that all the time when they're very hungry they will say i'm starving i need to eat
64
but now that i think about it that sounds really bad
65
because there are a lot of people in the world who are actually starving so But yeah,
66
on days where I eat three meals, I eat smaller meals.
67
So I'll eat a smaller meal after the gym before I start working.
68
Then I'll eat another medium-sized meal at lunchtime at work.
69
And then I'll eat my big meal after I get home from work.
70
So another big part of my diet,
71
which I know is not good for me and I'm trying to slow down, coffee.
72
Coffee, guys.
73
I will drink black coffee
74
In the morning when i'm not eating and it helps me to not be
75
so hungry and give me energy And there's no calories in this.
76
I drink my coffee black No cream no milk no sugar.
77
I just like it black.
78
All right, guys, let's show you how I cook and eat Pretty much every day Okay,
79
guys, let's make meal number one Like I said,
80
when I don't work very early in the day and I don't get up very early to go to the gym,
81
I usually just eat twice.
82
So this is going to be the first of my two meals today.
83
Alright, let's check out our ingredients.
84
Our ingredients, the things that we are going to use to make this meal.
85
We have eggs.
86
I'm going to use a little bit of butter.
87
This is sausage, pork sausage.
88
now I know that a lot of people all around the world do not
89
or cannot eat pork both for health reasons or religious reasons
90
so if that is your case and you don't
91
or can't eat pork they make sausage just like this out of beef
92
and even out of turkey so check
93
that out it's really good too I just like pork
94
because I like fattier meat because when you're cooking my friends fat this flavor.
95
I've got some cheese right here.
96
Some really good high quality cheese and I bought this at a local farm by my house.
97
I prefer to buy things from local farms than to go to the big stores
98
because I want to support local families, right?
99
That's what you should do.
100
And then we've got these.
101
These are wraps.
102
We're going to basically make breakfast burritos or you could call them breakfast wraps.
103
Now we call them wraps because you wrap them up.
104
Now to wrap is a very useful verb in English.
105
You can wrap up burritos.
106
You can wrap a present.
107
To wrap is a very useful verb.
108
So don't forget that.
109
To wrap.
110
We are going to make a breakfast wrap.
111
So I'm making some rice right now.
112
I forgot to mention that ingredient but my rice is cooking right now
113
and while it's cooking I'm going to get everything ready.
114
All right guys so the first thing we're going to do is to grate some of this delicious farm fresh cheese.
115
This my friends this is called a cheese grater and you use it to grate to grate cheese.
116
Right now I am grating cheese.
117
Let me grate this cheese and then we'll talk about the next step.
118
Okay guys now that we have our grated cheese let's crack some eggs.
119
Okay guys, cracking eggs, to crack eggs is also something very useful to know in English
120
because many times if you're watching a recipe video or a cooking show,
121
they will say to crack eggs.
122
That just means to open up the eggs,
123
put them in a bowl.
124
All right, so now I'm going to cook my sausage, and my eggs.
125
I'm not gonna show you all of that because this is not a cooking video.
126
It's just an English video.
127
I just wanted to show you guys some very useful verbs like grating cheese and cracking eggs.
128
So I'll show you guys when I'm ready to put this together.
129
All right.
130
All right guys.
131
It is time to make these sausage,
132
egg, rice, and cheese breakfast wraps.
133
I'm also going to teach you guys another very useful phrase in English
134
which is meal prepping Meal prepping and we are about to meal prep.
135
What is meal prepping?
136
Meal prepping is when you cook one time,
137
but you make meals for more than one day For example,
138
we're going to make one wrap here.
139
I'm going to eat that right now I'm going to make two other wraps right here,
140
but I am not going to eat those today I'm going to eat those tomorrow
141
and the next day this way
142
when I wake up I do not have to cook
143
That is the best part about meal prepping you cook one time
144
And then you get to eat for a couple days without cooking again
145
Meal prepping is cool and it helps you to be healthier because if you already have food
146
Prepared and ready you will not be thinking hmm.
147
Maybe I should eat this this bread this donut this cake
148
you're going to think no I already have my healthy meal in the refrigerator let me just eat
149
that alright guys
150
so now we're going to put equal parts of all the
151
things we cooked on each thing boom boom on each wrap
152
so we're gonna start cheese let's put cheese on each wrap
153
I know this looks like a lot of cheese that's
154
because it is this is a very healthy cheese
155
and I love cheese I know I know some of you guys probably cannot eat cheese
156
or drink too much milk because it makes your stomach hurt.
157
That happens to my wife.
158
But me, I can eat cheese and drink milk all day and it does not hurt me.
159
So I love dairy.
160
And what is dairy?
161
Dairy is what we call any food that is made by milk.
162
Dairy.
163
Dairy products.
164
Cheese, yogurt, milk, dairy products.
165
Now, the white rice that I prepared.
166
The white rice that I cooked earlier.
167
We're going to put some of that on each one.
168
I hope all this stuff's going to fit on these.
169
Now we've got our eggs.
170
These are the eggs that I made.
171
We'll put an equal part of eggs on each one.
172
And last, the sausage.
173
Alright guys, now let's see if we can even wrap these things up.
174
One, two, and three.
175
Alright, and with this meal I'm going to have another dairy product that I really like.
176
That I bought from the local farm.
177
This is called kefir.
178
And kefir is like a yogurt that you can drink.
179
It's very good for you.
180
And I think it's delicious.
181
Tastes so healthy.
182
All right, let's try the first meal of the day.
183
Sausage rice and egg and cheese breakfast wrap.
184
Hmm.
185
That's delicious.
186
All right, guys.
187
I'll show you when I'm going to make my next meal and the last meal of the day.
188
See you in a couple hours.
189
All right, guys.
190
Dinner time.
191
Guess what I'm gonna make?
192
Wife, what am I gonna make?
193
Ramen.
194
I'm going to make some ramen noodles, Japanese dish.
195
You could just buy a little little bag that has the ramen noodles in it,
196
but we're gonna make it with all these ingredients.
197
It's going to be delicious.
198
So let's go over our ingredients.
199
Here we've got some beef.
200
This is going to be a beef ramen or a steak ramen.
201
Right Right here we have what we call in English mushrooms.
202
This is called bok choy.
203
Some of you guys, if you're in Asia you may know what this is, bok choy.
204
Got some garlic here, some ginger,
205
and we're going to use the broth to make the soup.
206
So first things I'm going to do, smash up garlic.
207
And then we need just a little piece of ginger guys.
208
Ginger is very strong so you don't need a lot.
209
Maybe a piece like that.
210
We're gonna get this heating up in a pan and then we'll get our broth going.
211
We'll cut up our other vegetables
212
and i'll show you guys where we're at in just a minute all right guys
213
so we have our garlic chopped up this is to chop
214
to chop we have our ginger chopped up to chop to
215
chop chopping is an important verb we have our bok choy boiling in water for just a couple minutes
216
and now we're going to put it into some cold water this is called blanching you make it softer
217
but it still is a little bit crunchy you take it out before it gets too soft
218
and put in the cold water that's blanched i'm gonna put
219
it in the fridge until we're ready for it the refrigerator
220
guys the refrigerator i just said something very native the fridge okay the fridge that's what we call the refrigerator
221
if you're a native english speaker from the u.s in britain they say weird things they probably say Oh,
222
get me something from the cold box, mate.
223
Something like that.
224
All right, guys.
225
I've got this little pot.
226
This is what our broth is going to go into.
227
It's hot, and there's a little bit of oil in there.
228
We're going to put our garlic and our ginger in there.
229
Oh, it smells already.
230
Guys, this is going to be delicious.
231
And I want to start this before I start the meat,
232
because you want to cook this for a little while and let those flavors really get into the broth.
233
All right, we're going to let the broth cook for a little bit.
234
While I get everything else ready,
235
I'm going to cook the meat
236
and I'll show you as we bring it all together
237
and serve up a couple of delicious bowls of ramen for my beautiful wife and myself.
238
See you guys in a minute.
239
Alright guys, take the beef out.
240
And now, if you watch any video of somebody who knows how to cook steak,
241
they're going to tell you to let it rest.
242
Rest.
243
You gotta let the steak rest.
244
Okay?
245
It has something to do with if you cut it right away,
246
all of the juices will squirt right out of it.
247
And we do not want that.
248
We want a juicy steak.
249
Juicy steak.
250
So while we let this rest for about 10 minutes,
251
we're going to start cooking our mushrooms, which I already cut.
252
We're going to cook that in the same pan that the steak was in.
253
And then we're going to cook our noodles,
254
and everything is going to come together deliciously.
255
See you guys in a minute.
256
Okay, guys, everything is starting to come together.
257
Now we have to slice our steak.
258
So the difference between the verb to chop and to slice.
259
Let me explain it.
260
This is chopping.
261
This, come here, wife.
262
This is slicing.
263
That's slicing.
264
Mmm.
265
That is slicing.
266
So we're going to slice the steak.
267
That's slicing.
268
This is chopping.
269
Slice up our steak.
270
Mmm.
271
That looks good.
272
Oh, I can't wait, guys.
273
I am getting hungry.
274
Slicing the steak.
275
Oops.
276
That means the noodles are ready.
277
Right with them.
278
This one is for my child who doesn't want to eat ramen.
279
You know how kids are.
280
Drain the water.
281
Alright, guys.
282
Time to put it all together.
283
Got our noodles in the bowl here.
284
now we take our delicious broth put
285
that over the noodles i'm only using this to be careful
286
and not make a big mess all right guys now the
287
fun part now we got to make it look good
288
so i take our eggs here those here these eggs came out ugly
289
but that's okay so you know what let's just show this one show the pretty one
290
and we will do some mushrooms some of these delicious mushrooms
291
and we just make one pierce yeah
292
and then we take one of our bok choys here like
293
that and we'll take our steak
294
that is a professional bowl of ramen you get it in
295
good light wow okay guys that's how i like to eat we don't eat ramen every day
296
but my wife really wanted it
297
so i decided to make it for let me know guys
298
do you think it's weird the way i eat is it
299
way different from how you eat tell me in the comments below i hope
300
that you learned some good vocabulary from this video
301
you enjoyed watching the food that i eat
302
and seeing how some guy on the other side of the
303
