Temperatures range from about minus 6 degrees Celsius up to a high of 10 most days.

It does get very chilly and snow is common in the high elevation areas.

Expect bluebird days with blue skies and bright sunshine, which makes the snow-capped mountains look even more incredible.

It still does rain though, of course this is one of the wettest places on earth but less so than other times of the year.

Daylight areas are short, the sun rises about 7 30 a.m in the morning and sets by about 5 30 at night.

because you may need to navigate the Milford Road or the drive back to Queenstown in the dark.

Cruises, tours and flights still operate in the winter season just with a lot more reduced capacity.

It's definitely the quietest time of the year, the weather is often the most settled, there's the least crowds of any other season
